A friend reached out to meet for drinks at the Summit House. I had never been, so I was excited to try someplace new. I loved the building, the decor and the ambiance. We started off at Happy Hour and stayed for dinner. I had the Honeymoon Phase cocktail and it was delicious. I had the heirloom tomato salad, followed up by the Goat Cheese Agnolotti, both of which were fresh and delicious. I have a sweet tooth, so I saved room for the Chocolate Budino. It wasn't too far from where I live, so I will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend it. read more

Service was slow on that regard with water and checking. Seafood is good, though- the salmon crudo was ok (blood orange highlight), the oysters broiled with miso-garlic - virtually no miso flavor. The seared octopus, though, a great dish with highlights on the beans offsetting the rich flavor of the octopus and sausage crumbs. Dinner was tilefish, excellent balance (although some bites were very salty). Apple crostada at dessert was a good version of a warm apple turnover with an open center served with ice cream which I enjoyed. Went to Summit House for Lunch on a Friday. The parking situation was horrendous but I suppose not the restaurant's fault. We ordered the steak frites and a Chicory salad with salmon. Originally I felt that the prices weren't terrible, it isn't cheap, but the portion sizes were small and I was still hungry after the meal. So for what you're eating, it does end up being expensive. The venue itself is very nice and bright and open and the decor is inviting. The service was nice and attentive but it wasn't too busy when we went. The salad with salmon was great. The fish was cooked perfectly and well salted and you do get a good amount of fish. The salad itself was slightly bitter. I know that is a characteristic of the chicory but I thought the honey and goat cheese would balance it out. However I did not taste any honey. The steak was cooked perfectly but again it just seemed like an incredibly small portion for essentially $40. If I'm in the area or looking for a decent place to do a business lunch I would come here but I'd rather try something new considering I left hungry. read more

American Express platinum confirmed a dinner reservation for four persons at "Summit House" restaurant at 7:00pm on Saturday, December 13,2025. When we arrived after a 3 hour drive from beautiful Cape May New Jersey which has fabulous restaurants, we were told that "NO RESERVATION EXISTED." I even offered to spell the last name. To start with, service was 5 stars. I have no complaints on the service. Service was attentive. Water was refilled, and we were asked during the course of the meal how things were. From the kitchen unfortunately it's 3 stars. It took a while to get the food but that would have been ok but the food was lackluster. Steak and eggs which is $32 or $34 only had 4 pieces of steak, with some eggs and two pieces of brioche toast simply is way overpriced. Prices in general are of course up but I think you have to give more than that given that at a steakhouse a full steak runs anywhere from 50 - 70 dollars. The chicken and waffles was disappointing. The chicken had no seasoning and wasn't very crispy. The waffles were just meh. The lobster roll which was the same cost as the steak and eggs was disappointing. The lobster was mixed with fillers so there weren't much lobster. The taste itself was ok but I prefer just a standard New England style roll which comes with large chunks of lobster. The eggs benedict was uneven in terms of cook - one egg was poached nicely whereas the other one was overcooked. In general the price simply doesn't justify the portion or taste. From an ambiance standpoint it' s a nice place but the seats are too close. We're talking a few inches apart (although later, the seats were moved further for a larger party). Unfortunately I wouldn't be back here. Sometimes restaurants are pricey but at least the food is very good. I can't say that about my experience here. read more

Summit House Review: Disappointing Hospitality Despite Potential Summit House has all the trappings of a great date night spot: a nice interior, decent food, and a good location. However, the experience is severely undercut by a baffling lack of hospitality and poor seating management. We were excited for a romantic evening, but the minute we were seated, the "romance" was out the window. Despite the dining room being conspicuously empty (and I mean truly empty), the host staff inexplicably seated us right on top of the only other occupied table. It felt as if we were sharing a booth or, as I described it to my partner, "sitting in their lap." We could hear every word of their conversation, and they could certainly hear ours. It was jarring, awkward, and completely ruined the mood we were hoping for. The food was generally okay--nothing to write home about, but certainly edible. The service was also just okay; our server was efficient enough, but not particularly warm or attentive. Ultimately, the lack of spatial awareness and basic consideration for guest comfort is inexcusable, especially when the restaurant has so much unused real estate. The cumulative effect is that the total ambiance and hospitality stink. Summit House needs a serious re-evaluation of its front-of-house philosophy if they want to be considered a premier destination. Came on a weeknight with a reservation and the restaurant was still busy. Service was timely but a bit slow. Definitely a dark ambiance good for a date, family or business. Price on the pricier side. 1. Shrimp cocktail - large pieces of shrimp x 4. Good quality 2. French onion soup - decent with the right amount of cheese and bread. Not too salty! 3. Short rib - big portion good to split if you're not too hungry. Can be a bit dry on the inside. Had it with Brussels sprouts which were amazing. Came here for work events a couple times, located in busy downtown Summit. Parking will be challenge like everywhere around this area, would recommend just paying for parking in the big lot and then walking over. Service and ambience were nice, good place to have a conversation with folk especially if you have a lot to discuss. Menu was quite limited especially for lunch, with most of the items being salads or similar type of food and nothing stood out. Prices are very high especially for the portion size you're getting. This would be a good choice if trying to be healthy, but you aren't getting much bang for your buck or filled up here. I guess this is probably what you'd expect if you consider this fine dining, although I don't know if I'd necessarily categorize this as such. We live in Summit and usually count on Summit House for a great ambiance, delicious cocktails, and good brunch. Dinner is good for a certain experience but the food is less impressive and $$$. We came for brunch. My husband had booked a res for 2 and then the day before had called to add our baby to the res. The host informed us directly when we arrived that our reservation was made for 2 but we're a party of 3, including the baby. The restaurant was half empty at 2:30pm. No big deal. We both ordered burgers. One was great and mine had a bug in the accompanying salad. They apologized and replaced the salad and gave me back the same burger after asking me first. Gross but fine, everyone makes mistakes. My burger was a bit dry but I asked for no cheese. I had a bee pollen cocktail with honey - delicious. The bill came and they hadn't removed my burger dish with the bug. Restaurants have always removed items with a bug/hair in a dish from the bill, so I asked about it politely. The straw that broke the camel's back? The waiter gave us attitude in response. Shocked. They did end up removing it from the bill, but we are not easily coming back... read more

Had a delightful Sunday brunch this past weekend. Always enjoyed the cocktails prepared by their professional bartender staff. The Bloody Mary was quite snappy. Salad with salmon added was fine. The cheeseburger was top notch, as was the French fries. Waffle & fried chicken was not their strong suit. Hummus was not ethically correct but interesting. The micro crudités were cute. Came out on a cold and rainy day and it was a scene at Summit House. The dining room was bustling and brunch was stellar. Started with a Morning Star Press made with peanut infused whiskey, cacao and espresso which was wonderful and the Bloody Mary my boyfriend had packed a punch too. We had an excellent experience celebrating my daughter's birthday. The service was "Downton Abby" excellent. They must have taken copious notes when we made the reservation because they wished her a happy birthday upon our arrival, and the waiter knew without asking that she was gluten free, which saved her from having to explain or ask what was OK for her to eat. Every bite was delectable, from the jumbo shrimp served as an appetizer, to the truffle pasta, to the perfectly done, melt in your mouth salmon. Wow, I can't believe I first reviewed this place six years ago. It's funny how time flies, it feels like just yesterday I heard they were opening. I hadn't been to Summit house in quite some time, and my mom thought it would be nice to go on her birthday for brunch. I didn't check the yelp reviews before we went, and we got nervous when we got there and I started yelping to see what brunch items people liked and took photos of. There were a lot of complaints about weekend brunch. This made us pretty nervous to order. My mom and I shared the pastrami hash, which was actually a pretty decent choice. We chose scrambled for how we wanted the eggs, I didn't love the eggs, something tasted a little off. The potatoes were fried nicely, and I liked the peppers which weren't soggy but were nice and crisp. My stepdad got the mushroom bisque which he enjoyed but said it was quite small. For the $16 price tag I expected the soup to be a little more filling. The side of fries were crispy. The service was good, the food was fine, but the the value was not there. So according to my refined drinking buddy, this place has the best Manhattan he's ever had. And my friend has had a lot of Manhattans! Of course, you can't get a table at a restaurant and just order a few cocktails. We'll, maybe if you ordered enough cocktails LOL. Anyway, after putting in our orders: scallops with bacon for me, some dinner rolls and butter was brought to our table. My friend, who is a very healthy and picky eater had to ask for another round of bread! I don't usually get scallops but they tasted very fresh with a light sear on top. Of course, there's almost nothing that a little bacon can't help. As for the Manhattan ... it was kind of ok. It was smooth but it felt a little single dimensional - just basically one flavor. It was good but not what I expected from a high end cocktail. The ambiance was very nice and maybe it was to improve the social distancing, but we were seated in a line of smaller tables in the hallway connecting the front to the back room.It's just that the entrance to the bathroom was in that hallway. Bill, the bartender makes fantastic cocktails & asks for your flavor profiles for guidance. The Hot Fuzz cocktail is superior imo to anything you can find in NJ as a whole. The mussel & fennel appetizer is perfectly balanced, the butter tasting is an absolute must try with cacio e pepe, French onion & sea salt flavors. I really enjoyed the whipped ricotta and the winter salad was different and tasty. it was very light, and some thing I have never had before.
