Came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday night. The dining room was packed which made it very loud and hard to hold a conversation. Our waiter was very nice, but again hard to hear him. We ordered the calamari app which was served in an interesting taco bowl shell. It tasted good and was enough for the 3 of us. For my entree I got the veal piccata which was delicious and tender. Really didn't feel like this place was that great. Our waiter had an attitude and made it seem like he could care less about us. The appetizers (meatballs & mozzarella and carrozza) were not good. On Christmas Eve, we had a 6pm reservation, sat at 6:30, and ordered almost immediately. Our apps didn't arrive until 7:15 and our entree didn't arrive until 8:55. The entire time we were waiting, we asked what was happening, only to be told that the kitchen was backed up. I understand it's a holiday but 3+hrs for a meal is insane. The owner didn't seem to care when we complained to him. We told him we would be leaving and he said "ok." The worst part is that the food was so mediocre. read more

Unlike Market Taverne, which featured a lively bar popular amongst locals for its happy hour scene, Cafe Sapori is a charming neighborhood BYOB Italian restaurant in a home-like atmosphere with subdued, moderately upscale decor. It's a good spot for a date night or a special night out with friends or family. If you plan to have a sensitive conversation, be forewarned that it can be quite loud in the intimate dining room, even when the room was less than half full. The menu features a variety of Italian favorites including pastas, chicken, veal and seafood, which offers enough variety to appeal to everyone (including those with dietary restrictions like gluten or dairy intolerance). My dining companion and I started off our meal by splitting the Tricolore Salad appetizer ($10), a generous portion of fresh radicchio, arugula and endive topped with a tasty white balsamic dressing. I opted for the Orechiette ($20), with broccoli rabe and sausage, which was pretty bland until I dumped the last of the garlic-infused olive oil served along the complimentary bread and really woke up the flavors of the dish. The food was good, not great. Same for the service. The food is somewhat over priced and they nickel and dime you. Most places when you order a soft drink they charge $2.50 to $3 and offer free refills. This place charges $3.50 with the same charge for refills. The drinks are mostly ice. Another nickel and dime feature is a charge of 3% for using a credit card, calling it an operating fee. Credit card usage is part of the cost of doing business and they bring in business. Next thing will be a napkin fee. I will not go back there and recommend you stay away. read more

The restaurant itself is very nice, but the wait staff was not pleasant, service bordered between over-bearing to inattentive (yes two extremes). There were 6 of us and 4 of us did not enjoy our meals - some of the concerns were salty, undercooked risotto, bland with no flavor, etc. Overall, we would not return. We were just almost finished with desert and coffee and we were addressed by the waiter that we had to leave immediately someone was waiting for our table....then as my friend asked him to go away until we were finished and he grabbed my friend by the arm and was very aggressive. we had arrived at 6:00 for our reservation and at 7:15 they told us to leave and presented us with a bill of over 300.00. Very nice Italian restaurant. Came here on New Year's Eve since we did not want a prefixed menu. BYOB which we appreciated. Waited 5 min past our reservation time which was fine given the holiday. Table service was prompt. No issues. Friendly staff. Did not feel rushed or forgotten about. Food was good, but not exceptional. We ordered several pasta dishes and all were pretty bad. I didn't know you can screw up pasta. The fusilli was the worst. Imagine pasta served in the water you boil broccoli. No trace of olive oil, or sauce, just bitter watery taste. The wine was awful too - they only serve NJ wines, ok fine, but can it be drinkable? For 60 a bottle it shouldn't smell and taste like vinegar. Service was all right - although they all think they work in a much higher rated establishment - trim the 3 Michelin start 'tude a tad. For appetizers we shared the calamari which was good, the octopus which was also good and the clams which were soggy and awful. We had the veal sorrentino which was poor, the veal Milanese which was poor and the salmon which was meh at best. Went for dinner last night to have a romantic evening . The acoustic in the restaurant is so loud !!! I could hear the whole conversation two tables away . They are supposed to fix it apparently . The food is absolutely fabulous! There were 3 people in my party and we were all blown away by the excellently prepared cuisine - beautifully plated and served hot. The servers could not have been nicer - all personable, patient and working in a pressured atmosphere on a Saturday night with a smile. Also, the choices of desserts were amazing & delicious! My only complaint that prevented a 5 star rating was the curt, unkind, actually nasty attitude of the lady at the entry desk, who I believe is an owner. Our friend, who arrived first & reservations were in her name, politely asked if we could sit in the dining room. This lady said no, giving no reason, and told her to wait at the bar, then seated her in the bar area until my husband & I arrived. This is where we ate & it was ok, but the dining room had been our preference. As we left, I stopped to tell this woman how disappointed I was at her refusal to let us sit in the dining room, which had been about 1/3 empty upon our arrival. She told me that it was a busy Saturday night and this was my problem. I said that, as the customer, I should be treated with more respect. As she turned away, she loudly called me a bitch. I would like to return and would highly recommend; however, the attitude of this woman was uncalled for & really upset me. I am not a complainer, nor am I aggressive.
