Some of the best coffee in Puerto Rico (and hence maybe in the world). I always stop by whenever I'm in Old San Juan. The beans are sourced from the mountain town of Ciales, which is located high in the island's central mountain range and in climate particularly suited for coffee plantation. The owner, Joaquin, is always at the shop and is truly passionate about his craft. He travels daily from his home in Ciales to the shop (a 3-4 hour drive). Oh, and the actual space is quite beautiful and perfect to sit down with a book or a chat with friends. Do yourself a favor and visit if you're a fan of coffee. read more

This coffee shop had delicious cappuccino and other drinks/cafe foods. The interior was very Old World-esque with lots of large comfy lounge chairs. The cappuccino and turkey sandwich came out quickly- we went on a Sunday morning and there was lots of seating. Definitely agree with all the other reviews stating that this is the best coffee we've had in OSJ so far. Best spot I've been to in PR on my trip.. amazing and quaint spot in old San Juan. 100% recommend this spot. I know everyone has said this in their review but if you love coffee definitely come here! I haven't been to any other coffee spot here in PR besides my hotel which also has very good coffee. It was nice to come to a new spot, more authentic. The owner is very sweet and was happy to serve. He explained that the coffee here has a normal amount of caffeine not the absurd amount that you normally get from Starbucks. It hit just right and didn't make me feel uneasy and high heart rate :O. Prices are relatively normal compared to the generally high prices in PR. I'm not too sure how the food is.. I am vegan and don't see anything that would be vegan friendly on the menu. Maybe the toast but it's okay because I'm here for the coffee! :D and that is hitting. The vibes are amazing and cozy and quaint and so fun. I wish I could come here more! As a coffee hound I was in heaven here. The wonderful aroma smell of freshly ground coffee as you walk in is wonderful. It's a great spot that wasn't far from our hotel. During our walks around Old San Juan sightseeing we dropped in for a coffee and pasty break. The coffee is from a local roaster, and went great with our banana bread. Terrific decor that is very comfy. Staff here was so friendly and offered some tips about where to go and what to see. This amazing place looked closed when I walked by, while chasing for morning coffee with last $11 in cash. I willingly gave the gentleman my card to pay $12 and change for huge strong coffee and delicious breakfast he suggested. We came on Wednesday Jan 11 at 9:30 am and the store was definitely closed, with the front door deadbolted. There was no indication that the business was temporarily closed, or when it may reopen. This is is the best coffee in Old San Juan, even the locals vouch for it. However - on 2 of the 3 days that we came here, they were not open on time or communicated when they'd open. The locals said it's open at the owner's discretion and we saw them waiting 30+min each morning. The owner himself seems like out of a Guillermo del Toro movie, down to the movement ticks and quirky personality and interior decor of the place. I ordered a mocha on the last day before my flight because I was committed! I must try it! It truly was delicious and the best coffee I had in Puerto Rico. If you are a coffee snob, this is the place to go in Puerto Rico. Our plans were tight enough that we couldn't afford to wait around until they opened, so we went to the other coffee shop that was open around the corner. From the coffee farm that we went to, he said that something like 99 or 98% of all coffee in Puerto Rico is imported in, and what's left is specialty export out. The labels "From Puerto Rico" aren't regulated, so just be aware when shopping for beans. What you're paying for is the roaster's work when buying beans in PR. Credit card minimum is $10. read more

I wish I would have found this place sooner! I discovered it on my last day in San Juan and at least I had that one experience. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in a special place. It smelled amazing and I loved the old world feeling of the place. A very helpful lady suggested I try the "house frozen coffee" which was coffee, hazelnut and banana. HELLO!!! Its one of the best things I've ever tasted!! I also got a piece of fruit bread to accompany my coffee/breakfast. They heated it up and cut it into pieces without me asking! It was glorious! Perfect temperature and perfect little pieces that are bite size. My sister got a "normal" coffee and was very happy with that. She also ordered a croissant that they headed up and prepared for easy consumption as well ... it was smushed a little flat and was a nice temperature as well. LOVE IT! I have been on the island for 5 days and no establishment has warranted 5 stars, except this one. From the decor to the customer service to the delicious coffee and food, this place is wonderful. The owner is so friendly and it's a family run business with his children helping him. It's obvious he has a passion for both coffee and people. I ordered the big breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage and pumpkin French toast. It was out of this world delicious and at $12.95 the price couldn't be beat. I also loved the attention to detail, fake maple syrup would have ruined the homemade pumpkin French toast. He had real maple syrup on the table, which brought out the flavors. The latte had a wonderful heart design, done beautifully. I grew up in Costa Rica, coffee is in my blood and this coffee was perfect. The devil is in the details, you can tell when people are detail oriented. I was never a big coffee person, until I came to Puerto Rico. There are just so many cute little coffee shops that it forces you to try something outside of your comfort zone. I came here with 4 of my friends early in the AM (around 10) before heading near the cruise ship docks which is where we were going to get picked up for our rainforest tour in the afternoon. Being a complete coffee noob, I ordered a Caffe Mocha knowing it would taste chocolatey since I'm not big on just espresso yet. It cute and presentable, and extremely delicious. Each of our orders took a long time to come out, and that's when you know they made each of our drinks with love & care. However, since we got there a bit late, we rushed a little and had to take it to go (I had to chug my drink). There were a few couches to sit at but mainly tables. It was a great experience, and I definitely recommend. If you're on a time crunch, make time to go earlier so you don't feel rushed. read more

So, I am not even remotely a coffee expert, more like a coffee total noob, but I have decided recently that one of my long-term goals is to acquire at least a basic appreciation for good espresso, and I know Puerto Rico is known for the quality of its coffee, so when I was in SJ for a few days a week ago, I decided to find the highest-rated coffee shop nearby, and get an espresso there. This was that shop, so off I went! There is honestly nothing remotely fancy about this place - it looks like a prototypical coffee shop anywhere in the US. It's not hip or artsy or trying to be anything it isn't, but while I am, again, not remotely a coffee snob, I think I can tell the difference between good and not-good espresso, and yeah, that is some pretty great espresso. It's also cheap ($2), was made very quickly (about 2 minutes after I ordered), they take cards regardless of the amount, and they have super comfy chairs and glorious, wonderful air conditioning. If you want a fancy expensive iced latte with a bunch of wacky flavors (i.e. the kind of coffee drink I *usually* order), maybe go somewhere else (I can't remember if they even offered any, but it certainly wasn't the focus). But if you want no-nonsense really good coffee for cheap, probably go here. read more

Visiting Puerto Rico for the first time we were excited to visit old San Juan and saw the line out the door for this place and they had a good reviews. But unfortunately we are very disappointed with not just the unfriendly welcoming we got but the barista was not very helpful with any recommendations and it seemed like he didn't know very much about the coffee itself I ordered what was recommended to me by one of their other guest which was the "house blend" but it ended up being more of a milk shake we asked for almond milk but it seemed like they did not know how to properly make their house blend with other milk alterations as the milk was separated. I have never written a bad review before but I do feel that others should know what to expect and the high reviews we saw did not reflect the level of quality we come to expect with a place so highly rated. read more

Definitely some of the best coffee I had in Puerto Rico. All coffee is local (from a farm in Ciales, P.R.) and roasted on location which results in some pretty fresh coffee. The espresso with milk was delicious and the bag of whole bean coffee I bought was fresh and tasty even after surviving a 4 hour plane ride. The atmosphere at the shop is great.
