We hired this company for an HVAC installation with a scope of work stating that the work would be completed to code. The HVAC permit was initially inspected and signed off. However, during a later DBI inspection to approve closing up the walls, a different inspector identified a fire-rating issue with the HVAC installation and required it to be corrected before the project could proceed. The HVAC contractor is now asking us to pay approximately $3,500 additional to bring the installation into compliance with the inspector's requirements. Their position is that because they pulled the permit and the HVAC inspection passed, the original work was completed appropriately. This has been extremely frustrating. The fire-rating requirement identified by DBI is not new code, and we hired a licensed HVAC contractor precisely because we rely on their expertise to understand and comply with the codes applicable to their work. An inspector overlooking an issue during an earlier inspection does not change the contractor's obligation to perform the work to code--particularly when that commitment is explicitly included in the scope of work. If there is a legitimate disagreement between DBI inspectors about what the code requires, I would expect the contractor to work with DBI to resolve that discrepancy. What I do not think is reasonable is simply passing a $3,500 correction cost on to the homeowner because an earlier inspector failed to flag the issue. At this point, we are left with walls that cannot be closed until the HVAC work is corrected and a significant unexpected charge to address an issue we reasonably expected a licensed HVAC professional to get right the first time. read more

Did not install HVAC system correctly and it auto shuts off. Been without heating now for over 3 weeks. The guy on the phone does their best but can do nothing about it. I initially contacted Luis to inspect why my house wasn't heating up. Luis came to the house next day and did a inspection and said that the cause might be due to broken and torn air ducts. Luis then suggested to replace them with either flex ducts or aluminum ducts. Luis was helpful in explaining pros and cons of both the ducts. He never tried to upsell which I appreciate. Luis then came a week later (there were scheduling issues once because I was traveling and next because Luis got more work after he visited my house for inspection) and then fixed the air ducts in a couple of days. Our house is well heated now which is the only way I can tell that Luis did a good job replacing air ducts. Price: I spoke with couple other HVAC companies and Luis's quote was the most reasonable one compared to other companies. My central air conditioning had a meltdown just in time for the hottest few days of the year so far. We're talking 100F levels of heat. I needed a fix stat or I was going to spontaneously combust. I frantically searched for local AC repair on Yelp and sent out requests for quotes. I received some responses for appointments in a few days and some into the next week but I reallllly needed someone ASAP. Luckily I contacted Luis. He was the only professional I was able to speak to directly on the phone - everyone else was through a call center or through the Yelp app which is kind of annoying to use for things like this. I explained my dire situation and even though he was super tight on time the day of, he managed to squeeze me in for the afternoon. I wasn't home for the service but my roommate was. I was told that Luis was super courteous. He had slippers that he wore in our house and he changed into them EVERY SINGLE TIME he had to leave the house to grab something from his truck. I can only imagine how annoying that must have been for him but he did it out of respect for our floors! Super appreciated by me since I'm a no shoes in the house kind of person. He was very thorough in his assessment. We had a capacitor that was shot and needed replacing. You'll remember that Luis had to make room in his busy schedule for us so he didn't exactly have spare parts laying around. I think he could sense our desperation and made the executive decision to use a part he had purchased for another client's job the following day and use it for our AC unit. This meant that he had to make another trip to the store later. Again, causing him more time and hassle but getting us one step closer to icy cold air. After that fix it also turned out we had a busted fuse and he was able to diagnose and fix that quickly. He was with my roommate the whole time but he actually texted me afterwards to let me know that the service was completed since I was at work. Really great guy that cares about his customers and does an amazing job.
