Yelp is good to ask if I want to send out multiple quotes to competing vendors for my HVAC issue (AC not blowing cold air in one of the Bay Area's many heat waves summer of 2024). I sent out quotes and while one company (named after a music genre) replied with an appointment for one week LATER (no, just no: I'm not going to survive with no AC for 7 days with temps from the high 80s to high 100s) so I sat back to wait for other quotes with a closer appointment within a day or two. Jay from JE Moore Air Conditioning reached out to me and asked about my AC's symptoms (AC turns on, fan turns on, condenser turns on - yes, yes, no). My AC died yesterday. For anyone that reads this in the future - It happened during a heat wave where we were getting to a 110 for nearly a week. It was so unbearably hot that I took the family to a hotel for the night. After calling a couple dozen places and reaching out to just as many over Yelp - I was losing hope on getting my AC running anytime soon. Out of all the people I contacted, 4 got back to me. 3 were booked out for 1 to 2 weeks. This is an excellent, family owned, company. Jay Moore is a patient, competent professional. They fixed our air conditioner through careful diagnosis (the earlier tech sent by a home warranty company, actually stole a capacitor and made out a report that the compressor was frozen due to a leak caused by a missing dust cap! The home warranty company said this was negligance and thus not under warranty. We called J.E. After 40 some years in the wall rubbing against a metal strap, a pin hole occurred in our hot water line which was not really noticeable until mold started to appear on the wall behind the furnace and water heater. The clean up was going to be stressful as we entered into December knowing we wanted to get back into our house before Christmas. Our heater decided to stop working the coldest week of the year as temperatures dropped to the mid 30s every night. Originally we had a different HVAC company investigate the issues, the place told us the parts to our old furnace were no longer being manufactured and the worker offered to replace the whole unit for cash illegally without an inspection to the condo we own. This made us weary of that company. LUCKILY, we were referred to JE Moore. They confirmed the parts were no longer being manufactured, but the worker went the EXTRA MILE and called multiple places to see if he could locate the part instead of having us replace the whole unit. After a horrible experience with Solano Air & Heat, I sought out to find a competent repair company to come to my rescue. I had just had my AC repaired a mere 3 weeks ago when it conked out again. If the job had been done right the first time, obviously I wouldn't have needed another technician to come out. After getting a verbal run around from Solano and a delayed time and date they would come out to fix it we gave this nice company a call. Shoot, 3 5-star reviews? They must be doing something right! So Vade came our rescue and within five minutes he was able to find what was wrong with our unit! Apparently there was some shoddy wiring and the metal was rubbing against each other! So after running a few diagnostic test to make sure everything was up and running after he repaired the wiring, we were good to go. Sure we had to pay him around the same amount the other place wanted to charge, but the difference here is that we have faith in his competency. I had called Jay out for an estimate along with a few others when my downstairs furnace completely stopped working. He showed up on-time and gave me a quote with no pressure. I'd had a couple of questions on his proposal and he returned my calls promptly. He installed an entire new Heating unit and A/C unit. His installer, John was very professional and even put down a blanket (without my asking) so that there were no damages to my floors which I know sounds petty, but seriously impressed me as I've other people out to do things who just don't care. After they were done with the installation, he followed up with getting the permit from City of Pleasanton, had the ducting tested (and even made a few repairs) and all of this was done without me even needing to be home as I was busy working. I had no problem trusting him in my home without anyone there. In addition, I had PG and E out on a separate issue and while they were there, they went through and inspected ALL my gas appliances. They saw a few things that they wanted corrected on my second heating unit (had nothing to do with Jay's work). I called Jay out and he was out the very next day and had John take care of it. This company employs usurious pricing practices. Under scrutiny J.E. was unable to justify his price. I got an estimate of $550 dollars to replace 12 feet of air duct. I gave him a call after sensing immediately that is was unexpectedly high for the work involved. I first asked how many hours of labor would be required. He initially made it sound like it would take all morning but later acknowledged that it would probably take 2 hours. I then asked how much was an hour of labor. His initial answer was: "It depends.". Second red flag ! He finally acknowledged a cost of $100 dollars per hour. Sensing he was coming short of $300 in his justification, he turned and said "Well, I got to pay for materials too". When pressured he gave an estimate of $150 for materials. Even then he was unable to justify the remaining gap. The only explanation he could come up with was: "I got to make money". As if he wasn't already running a profit on labor and parts. I did the work on my own. The materials cost me approximately $60 dollars without wholesale or contractor discounts. I am glad I did this on my own. Kudos to the technician though. He was knowledgeable, helpful and nice. read more

My wife informed me last night that our AC is blowing hot air. So checked several companies near San Ramon, CA and found JE Moore to have the most reviewed company. Called them early this morning and i got a schedule that they will be coming around 2PM. Alberto arrived before 2PM and shown where my AC outside unit is, he readily diagnosed that it was the fan starter which is the dual run starting capacitor, after further checking he confirmed that it was indeed the capacitor. Quoted me $245 less Yelp discount of $25. I did check how much the spare parts will be it says i can get it for $20, so i paid $200 for the labor. I asked Alberto for more details on the parts he said that it was the quote from the office. So i asked are there any discounts he said no. SO i paid $200 to replace a capacitor and after checking Youtube i could have replaced it myself. I like that they came as scheduled and the work was done but i am not sure about the quote if i indeed got a good deal so i am giving them 3 stars. read more

We have a custom built house with radiant heated floors, which means no AC and no duct work. I did a lot of research, talked to 5-6 different companies and JE Moore came out on top. Jay and John were wonderful to work with. Then they called mid morning asking if someone could come out to just see if it was something quick to fix. They came out, but couldn't fix it. On-Time for their appointment again! Called late Friday night and left a message for regarding needing repair on our AC unit. They called back around 9 AM Saturday and were set to come between 11 AM and 1 PM. Arrived around 11:20 and quickly diagnosed a blown capacitor for our compressor fan (it is a two part capacitor - one for the compressor and one for the compressor fan). This is apparently a common problem that we had diagnosed over the phone with PG&E since we have one of those Smart AC devices. 15 minutes later we were good to go. A reasonable price for a fix and no Saturday surcharge! The technician recommended their twice per year diagnostic check service but I was not really interested. No pressure at all. read more

What a terrific company! Honest and reliable. My air conditioner wasn't working and I had a different company come out and tell me that I needed a new unit. By the time I was ready to purchase one, I had lost the original company's contact information. I went on Yelp and fount J.E. Moore. I made an appointment with them and let them know that I needed a new air conditioning unit. A service person came out and inspected the machine. Long story short, I didn't end up needed a new unit after all. They were able to repair my old unit, saving me THOUSANDS of dollars! My heater broke last winter and I have been very nervous of the price to repair. I was told that it would be !$100.00 just to get someone out without parts and repair. So this Winter came and its late December. I have had one too many nights of freezing and one too many mornings of seeing my own breath. I called JE Moore and they got someone out within an hour. They guessed right that it was the blower problem. They solved the hammering problem by cleaning the blower. Blower was not clean for probably 10 years. We had J.E. Moore out to re-duct our entire HVAC unit, the intake vent was smack dab in the middle of our living space and was no noisey when it came on we couldn't hear the TV. Jay is the one that came out, their price quote was fair and we could tell by the conversation he only does quality work. It took a couple of days to complete the job, it was done so much better then we would have ever expected, they were clean, and wrapped all the piping the way it should have been all along.
