On the two blocks of businesses on Park Ave., you will run into quite a few nail salons. Finger Paint is $33 for a mani pedi and they do a great job! Plus I love the massage chairs. 5 stars for workmanship of gentleman at this location. I left with perfect nails...finger nails that is. He also provided a nice hand massage. The lady who did my toes butchered them. I wanted them trimmed not cut to the bone. Also, my large toe on one foot was filed crooked and didn't match my other large toe. I took assurance in the cold weather and closed toes shoes my feet would remain in. The foot massage was...special. My girlfriend...my poor girlfriend...they ruined her beautiful nails. She was so upset when we left. Your nails get long between manicures and need to be trimmed. Trimmed, not butchered. She left with stubby nails on one had but the other hand had noticeably longer nails. Not that hard to line 'em up folks! There was quite a difference. I guess it really matters who you get. Luck of the draw. I agree with Tally O, "there is an obvious display of techs talking crap about consumers (hence someone says something and the entire shop stares at you)." I haven't been to a nail salon in a long time where there is an obvious display of techs talking crap about consumers (hence someone says something and the entire damn shop stares at you). I don't care for techs not at least introducing themselves before they ask do I live in this area? Now to be fair the actual service was nice-but the jury is still out on the massaging experience & I don't recommend paying for the extra 15minutes of massaging unless you know they are good at it. read more

One of the poorest manicures I've ever gotten. Making a Sunday afternoon appointment was easy, but actually getting someone to give us the mani-pedi was another story. My mom and I waited in the spa chairs for a good 10 minutes before someone filled the basin with warm water and what looked like anti-bacterial hand soap (bluish gray gel coming out of a Softsoap bottle). Then another 20 minutes before someone was available to begin. The pedicure itself was really great. My tech was really accommodating to my tickle issues and my moms tech did an amazing job sandblasting her callused feet. Midway through our pedicures, another person came to begin our manicures. This is where it got weird. My tech kept berating me for having short nails (yes I get the same scolding every time I get my nails done, but in reality it just means less work on cutting/filing/shaping). Except she had a really hard time applying the polish. First off, she sat on a stool at my right and pulled both hands onto her lap. So my whole body is now twisted sideways (left hip lifted) so that my arms could extend to her. Then she wouldn't move the lamp into her workspace, despite the recommendations from her coworkers. After the first coat, I noticed the far edges of my nails didn't get a good coat of polish, so I tried to show my tech, who cut me off with "Not yet" and pulled my hand back to her lap. It became obvious there was some hostility and the women working on both sides of us were staring. She rushed through the second coat and started applying top coat when I pointed out again that the polish hadn't been fully applied. The manager then came over and asked her to start the pedicure of the new customer next to me, at which she grunted a refusal and continued to apply a sloppy coat of paint. The manager sat at my left and used a paintbrush and acetone to clean up the polish all over my fingers. The two of them exchanged some tense words and she finally got up and left. I then fought with the manager to clean up the polish on my right thumb, with no success. An hour a half later (my Mom had finished 20 minutes before me even though her whole process began before me), and I was trying to dry my nails while they were scooting me out of the chair. I ended up leaving with damp nails that eventually smudged significantly. I've done a better job painting my nails, drunk. Not worth the stress and price. Going back to their sister salon next time. It's worth noting that two different women came in while I was there to get acrylics fixed that had been done in the last week. Neither seemed very happy. ***A note on cleanliness: Watching them clean the pedicure basin before the next client, I saw the woman only wash the tub with the same anti-bacterial soap as was used to make bubbles. Not only do my nails look great when he's done but I'm also relaxed and happy from my massage. Whether I get gel or a traditional paint, my nails don't chip for weeks. (That's saying something for a teacher with 2 young children) I take all of my out of town guests and friends looking for a nail spot here and I've had nothing but rave reviews and return customers. read more

My new favorite nail salon! The gel manicure lasts for almost a month. So many great colors. I love many of the red shades by DND and I can get gel on my fingers and matching normal polish on my toes. Cheaper than a lot of worse-quality nail spas in SF. Nice people, nice neighborhood, comfortable massage chairs. Can't ask for more. Bring cash, like many places they prefer a cash tip. read more

I've tried all the nail spots on Park Blvd and this is my favorite, based on price, color selection, quality of work, and wait time. It cost me $33 for a mani/pedi and they gave me a very long and great massage! This place does get busy, so it's obviously ideal to arrive before evening peak hours. I'm an RN so I rarely get my nails done due to hospital rules (ugh), so I was unsure of where to get my nails done for my vacation. Two friends suggested Finger Paint and I'm glad I came. Nancy did my gel manicure. She was friendly, quick, and professional. She didn't talk too much, which I didn't mind because it was a long day at work and I just wanted to decompress. My manicure turned out great and I love the color. My pinky fingers are a little sore due to the filing and grooming but I'm sure it will go away in a few days. My only regret is that I didn't get a pedicure. I'll definitely come back! read more

This nail salon does a great job when painting nails. They are very friendly and accommodating. I usually walk in without an appointment and they generally get me seated right away. The longest I have had to wait is maybe 10 minutes. The parking is relatively easy. They have a good variety of nail polish colors and gel nail polish colors. The establishment is clean and well decorated. Their prices are reasonable. They prefer cash, but they will take a credit card if that is all you have. read more

Started coming here due to mob scene at Femimacus. Used to do good job but after Nancy went on maternity leave declined. Started being some issue every time with quality of work. Usually the quality of the paint job (especially with not painting entire nail). Sometimes nails were crooked. Such a shame because staff was so sweet and work used to be so good. I have been going to the nail salon for this family for I think 14 or so years. I went and make appointments with Tony the owner or hie brother, David or Loi. At that time having small nail beds and nails beds that curved upward, I always was drawn to silk wrap. My nail always looked great and due to their efficiency--never any challenges. Then Vicky opened her shop across the street. I went there as vicky always did my pedicure--fanatastic and great designer. Now thanks to Vicky and Loi I no longer have silk wrap done. Due to their extended knowledge and no how---I have nails and regular nail beds. I am and was not only amazed but ever so pleased. My nail have never looked better and it adds to my hands looking and feeling beautiful. I am so blessed to be a part of this family clientele and more so than ever---so grateful for Vicky and Loi's drawing the attention to how I can for the first time in my very long life have my very own nails that now grow. Me and my bf's sister spent hours looking for places to get pedi's on a random weekend and we had no idea where to go. Finger Paint came up on a search on Yelp so we made our way down and I was worried about the wait since it was a Saturday but it wasn't too bad. We stepped out to grab a drink across the street and then we were able to get seated. Their massage chairs aren't the best and I hope they sanitize the tubs because I didn't see them scrub them after use or anything (as I have seen at grand nails they do it right after they drain the water) but they are not cheap on the water and fill the tub way up high with nice hot water. My nail tech was really nice, she smiled a lot which made me feel good. I asked for her name but I couldn't really understand her.. from what I got out of it, her name was Diva? or something like that but she was really great and gave me a nice and long foot/leg rub.. the longest I've ever had while getting a pedicure. I also wanted designs on my toes and she did a really cute flower with some other designs and it came out super cute. I wouldn't mind going here again because it's an average price. I have been going here since I moved to the neighborhood. I have been happy with the results until about 4 weeks ago when I got a rash on both my shins. My doctor states this is a common fungal infection the is easily spread in pedicure tubs that aren't cleaned properly. It is not command to get this on your shins from any other source. I am very upset and thought I should post this for other in the neighborhood. I have always thought the price and the quality was good but this very concerning. read more

I have been coming here for years.. actually before they were finger paint. I have been coming here since they were originally Nail Palace. Sadly, I will not be returning after my experience last night. I came in and I asked for a specific lady to do my nails and the woman that attempted to do them got very angry and starting blurting out remarks in Chinese. The man that works there chimes in and started blurting out remarks as well. The woman doing my nails looked terrified and I could tell uncomfortable and in disbelief. I thought I was tripping so I decided to check her temperature by asking if she liked a color I had chosen. She replied in a rude tone ask her referring to the lady doing my nails. I was going to go off but that's typical behavior and I wasn't gonna stoop down to her level. This is not the first time they have been rude to me. The man that works there has been rude a few times but I just don't deal with him. I just won't be returning moving forward and they will never get a dime of my money. I feel very disrespected and I refuse to give my money to people who treat me nasty and are rude to me... and they seem a tad racist if you ask me. I definitely see a difference in treatment depending on the color of your skin. I'll be looking for a new shop to do business with and trust me there are plenty. read more

So! Where do I start? This was about the different nail shop that I'd called in a desperate attempt to get my nails done, and every nail shop in Oakland was seemingly super busy. So, I decided to try this place for the first time ever. Major mistake! The man named Tony who did my nails was not only semi unfriendly, but he was very rough and had a slightly bad attitude. I informed him that this was my first time at this establishment, but obviously they don't care too much about their reputation. This also seems to be a place where there aren't many people of color that are customers. Long story short, he kept getting an attitude about the stones that I asked him to put on my nails. He just couldn't seem to get it right when it came to putting the stones on directly in the middle of my finger. 4 freakin stones for two fingers! We had to go through taking them off and putting new ones back on a few times, and he still never got it right. Then he proceeds to get even more of an attitude with me and waves his hand up in the air in frustration and tells me that he just won't charge me the extra $5 for the stones for the two fingers. As if I REALLY care about $5 dollars!!! And to get an attitude when HE was the one that was doing a horrible job. On top of this, he and the other people he works there with were speaking in Cantonese or whatever language they speak, obviously talking garbage about me due to whatever he was telling them in their own language. It was obvious because everyone turned around and started staring at me blatantly. Needless to say, I will NEVER be back to this nail shop. They are very unprofessional, racist, and incompetent. But in this area, I'm not too surprised. read more

I just dropped in yesterday for a gel mani and pedi. I'd never been before, saw it as I was coming up Park Blvd, looked at my nails and thought "prepare for emergency landing." The whole experience was great: hospitality, cleanliness (they lined the pedi tub with what seemed like an oversized shower cap so I didnt have to deal with anyone else's funky-feet germs), color selection, professionalism, etc. What earned them the full five stars of this review is their thoroughness. They completed my full gel manicure and when they were reviewing their handiwork, they noticed that the gel was warping slightly at the edges. Instead of just adding another coat and hoping it would all smooth itself out, they went through the whole gel removal process in order to start all over.They also did not try to get me to pick another color, on the off-chance that the problem was with the polish itself. I might also add that at this point it was past the official closing time and I was the last customer left. My manicure was FLAWLESS! I am looking at my hands right now as I type this and smiling with pleasure. read more

I've been going to Fingerpaint (formerly Palace Nails) for at least 5 years now. I really don't like to go anywhere else. All of the techs are great. In other places I've tried, they either scrape my feet so deeply that at least I end up with sore spots, or they don't scrape them at all. At Fingerpaint, it's always the right balance. They also know me and know that I'm allergic to lotion. Their nail polish stays on in between visits with virtually no chipping. Just all around great. read more
