Finley's is as legit as it gets. I have now had my hair cut by them twice by two separate barbers and got a fantastic cut each time. They validate parking from the Amli down town and the City of Austin lot, which is so much easier than trying to find parking downtown or paying $7 to park in a nearby lot. The last time I was there I arrived early for my appointment. I got to drink free local craft beer and relax in a comfy leather chair while watching sports on a big flat screen TV. I am not into sports, but hell- give me a Fireman's 4 and a place to relax while I wait for my haircut? Yes, sir, I am in! Let's not kid ourselves though, what good would that be if the haircuts weren't good? So the lounge is just the icing on the cake. The real star of the show here is their barbers. Just stepped out of Finley's Barber Shop for the first time and wow, what an experience! Probably the best all around hair cut I've gotten. My stylest was super nice(Luz), the atmosphere was cool, and was, in my opinion, well worth the $30. The best part was when washing my hair they applied a warm towel over my face. I received the absolute worst haircut that I have ever had at this shop. The "attendant", I won't distinguish him as a "barber" cut a huge chunk out of one side of my hair and chopped up the rest. It has been two months and I am still allowing it to grow out so the damage can be repaired - but I will never go back to Finley's. read more

This place is great. I use Javier. Only been 3 times but he hooks me up every time. There's also a sweet lounge area if you just wanna go hang out after your cut. There's free drinks. What an amazing stylist! My husband went to see Lauren for a men's fade - might I add that my husband is incredibly hard to please and has very thick, coarse hair. Most stylists he's encountered don't satisfy his preferences and he usually leaves displeased. However, Lauren was able to completely nail the cut and style my husband wanted, and was so incredibly professional and hospitable. He hasn't been able to use it yet. he went over there on a whim when he was in the area to get a haircut and was told they don't take walk ins, he has to make an appointment. Went here for the first time yesterday. I didn't make an appointment, just walked in after I got off work, about 5 pm. I was immediately offered a beer, which I gladly accepted. There were two women and one man working. There were no other customers in the shop, and Tommy got started on me right away. On the website it says 30 minutes for the Premier Hair Package ($30), but Tommy took his time, which was fine with me. (Alhough I'm guessing this is also because they weren't busy at all) I've been to shops before where it's ten minutes and on to the next customer. With the cut, neck shave, shampoo, and shoulder massage, I was there for about an hour, but it definitely showed in the quality of haircut. I also liked that Tommy was an actual "barber", with a barber's license. Last time I got a hair-cut I went to Floyd's 99, and I saw the cosmetologist license of the guy who was cutting my hair. If I'm going to a "barbershop", I expect to have my hair cut by an actual barber! I will definitely go back here asking for Tommy. The only downside is it's kind of expensive compared to what I'm used to. I'm an intern from Manhattan, KS where I can get a good haircut for $15, minus the beer and massage. Also, not once did anyone at Finley's try to sell me any hair-products, which was a pleasant change. One last thing, if you plan on going, call ahead and ask about parking. Apparently they will pay for your parking at a nearby garage. I didn't know that when I went, so that's $1 that I will never see again. read more

This place is so rad. I was in town visiting my parents from school in Hawaii and needed a solid barber to straighten me up and I stumbled upon this gem. If you're looking for a top quality haircut/clean modernized fade/combover hard parts, professional service and tentative detail instead of a quick chop and go, this is the where you need to come. The persona of the shop is classic and very inviting. An awesome lounge with complimentary drinks while you wait, friendly staff and great work. I had Jessy fix me up. I have very difficult curly hair and usually am not too stoked after I get a cut, but, for the first time in my life, it looked fantastic without having to wait for it to grow in. Easily best hair cut i've ever had. He is a master at his art and am more than happy with what he did. He offered a free shape up for the following weeks and that if I noticed anything I didn't like about my cut over the next few days to come back and he would be happy to fix it for me. There would be no need for any of that with the fantastic job he did. $30 may seem steep for a mens haircut but you get a massage, straight razor line up and shampoo after the cut (nothing worse than having that itchy, hair all over your neck feeling afterward so that was great.) You get what you pay for and I would definitely pay it with a great tip every time for an experience like I had. Don't bother going anywhere else in Austin, this is where it's at. read more

From the time you walk in you are greeted with friendliness, when you have to wait it's in a cool waiting area with beverages. The hair cut experience is awesome. Gentlemen, you MUST try this place. I am new to Austin from Las Vegas, I've tried a few "hair salons" in Austin but hadn't found what I was looking for. Two weeks ago, I had a chance to speak with the owners of Finley's Barber Shop, Scott and Darren, as part of their inclusion in The Austin Business Journal's 50 fastest growing companies. During our conversation Scott asked if I had tried them. I said no, I had planned on it, but when I went online to schedule something they were completely booked. Darren looked at the schedule and found an opening for me with Lydia. Lydia was fantastic. The best part however was when I got home, and my girlfriend told me the haircut made me look 5 years younger! I now have my new Austin barber, thank you Lydia, see you again soon! I've been seeing Michelle ("The Manager" & "My Barber") since she started working there. She is all of the following wrapped up in one amazing package: barber, confidant and real world advice provider! Atmosphere is always upbeat and they even let me store a bottle of my booze there for when I go in....there is nothing quite like having a cocktail WAITING FOR YOU when you walk in for your scheduled appointment (thanks Naomi). Not a loud boisterous place - you can converse at normal levels and hear yourself think.....unlike several of the more common rock n' roll shops around town. This is a classy place, staffed by professionals who know their trade. Not the cheapest in town by any mean....but if you want cheap, buy some clippers and do it yourself. Coming from out of town I found this barbershop through a coworker's wife. Her boss told her about it and she told me. Took the metro to downtown then walked to get here as it was 99 degrees outside. Arrived and only had one opening 2 hours later. Fortunately I was in downtown Austin, beer and food kept me company during the wait. As a shorn-head, heavily bearded guy, I struggled for a year with how to get my beard shaped and trimmed properly. Mickey at the W. 3rd Finley's is a beard artist - he has a better eye than any other barber I've tried, and does a far, far better job than I can do myself. This place is pretty overrated. Pretty surprised it has 4.5 stars. They're always behind schedule relative to your appointment time (last visit was told 5-10 ended up being 35 mins). The three times I've tried it because I live next door the haircuts have been pretty subpar/average. This place is exactly what you want in a beard trimming shop. Excellent service from the front of the house all the way to the back. You can have a beer while you wait its that chill of a place. Favorite part was meeting Kirby. One hell of good dude that knows what he is doing when it comes to trimming beards. I blew in from not having my beard trimmed in over 9 to 10 months. My first visit to this location (actually my very first visit to any Finley's) was quite pleasant. I usually go to another barbershop but this visit (Dec 14, 2013) i was going to my company's Christmas party that night and I needed to look good. My usual barbershop doesn't wash out your hair, and I didn't wanna have to go get my haircut, then come home to shower and wash out all the hair, etc, etc. Finley's did all that. This location was voted the best barbershop in Austin and I had to check it out for myself. I originally made the appointment at the Westlake location, but after checking it out I was immediately turned off because the staff consisted of women (nothing wrong with that, but if its a barbershop, where are all the male barbers? Guess I'm just old-fashioned,) so I called and canceled and called their downtown location. Overall I had a wonderful experience, but I am picky about detail- as part of the $30 hair package, this includes a neck massage, which I didn't receive and was looking forward to it since I had a stressful day. The hot towel was awesome and I did calm down some. I was juggling to give this place either a 3 or 4 stars. Also I wasn't offered anything to drink and when I read the reviews for this place, they offered their customers drinks. Hey, when you advertise someting, make sure you follow through with it. My barber, Cody, did an excellent job on my hair. Remember that old saying, "don't judge a book by its cover?" Well in this situation, if you can't represent yourself well, then what type of people do you want to attract? The male staff were dressed well and had excellent haircuts- very dapper! As I was paying, I was checking out some of their products and the staff were very knowledgeable about the products. last month I tried to do the haircut there based on good reviews that every gave. I walked in and see if I can make a same day appointment since it is my first time there. They booked me an appointment for two hours later. I went back and wait for 15 mins in their lounge until my stylist C. showed up. She spent 10 minutes in total. What even worst is that 5 minutes of it, play around the massage machine. If I want massage, I go to a spa, not a barber. Pretty much what she did in 5 minutes haircut is just to make a change not detailed. If I need a rush haircut, I can do that by myself. Also I was billed for 30 mins package, which she spent 10 minutes and even without shampoo. I believed other stylists are not as horrible as she did (because the one next to me are served before me and still in the middle of haircut when I finished.) The front desk are nice as well. The only thing that the hairstylist did nice to me is to hand me the business card with her name so I will make sure next time I won't go with her again. I hope the manager really read here and made some change that they don't hire some hairstylist rushing for money. read more

so i got a couple things to say about finleys....first off i use to go there and take all my boys and myself there to get cut at least twice a month....well not no more....you want to know why....well first off i think as a manager of a place in austin in the service industry i think it is complete bull to go by what someone writes on yelp and fire someone over it.....for 2 they fired the best employee they had...both my sons love sophie to death and never trusted no one with there hair as they do sophie....i called up there the last time to make an appt and the gal on the phone was really rude to me but i let that slide......another time i took my sons to get cut and the girl who cut there hair did a shit job.....i know a number of the employees that work there and as a friend of theirs i will not mention anyone's name but sophies.... but i seriously will never refer nobody to finleys again(which i did alot knowing that i know numerous bands that travel through)but they have lost 4 loyal customer's........i hope this Ish person also feels great about there selfish ass being i heard thats why she got fired....so to finleys...get your shit straight and stop worrying about shitty yelp reviews and think about the people that would actually be a asset to your company........FYI i am not a friend of sophies just a customer so she did no way put me up to write this......and sophie if you read this please know that we will follow where ever you go and thank you for being great to my kids and i........chuckie read more
