My favorite restaurant that I went to while visiting Philly. This place feels like being back in Italy. It is tiny inside with just a bar and a couple tables. That's it. I love this European feel. Up first, I had a $17 El Noe. I was hoping for a strong burnt mezcal taste, but nope. It seems like only Florida gets this drink right. The drink wasn't bad at all, but I was just looking for that burnt taste. I also had a $18 Dirty Pasta Water Martini, basically a dirty martini. It was fine, but it came in a micro grass which was kind of weird. Clearly this isn't a place you come for cocktails. Now, onto the star of the night, the food. Up first, the $16 Spring Salad. Loved it, hit the spot. Also, had the $17 Arancini. I really liked those little balls and especially the dipping sauce. I had the $26 Rigatoni. It was absolutely phenomenal. I could go eat it every day. My mom had the $24 Tonnarelli and it was also top tier excellent. The flavors, the atmosphere, the staff, everything here is top notch. The Internet did not let me down. The rumps seasonal pasta was great and would come back for that! Maybe because I had higher expectations this was a 4 for me! The antipasti we chose the crudo was not my style of sashimi pairing. They added a fish with something even more oily/heavy so it just made everything heavy and not light and fresh which I prefer. The rigatoni honestly was way too salty for my taste. With the focaccia that's mid...it was less salty. The rumps seasonal pasta was delicious and fresh tasting! Walked up to the who is staying and luckily someone canceled and we were able to snag a reservation. Intimate space to dine with outdoor heated seating. They have barstool seating which overlooks the stove/chef area and a 220-pound, solid-brass cash register. They have an extensive wine bottle list and a few cocktails. An AMAZING dinner. We sat at the chef's counter and were truly enchanted by the charming, talented staff and delicious flavors. The rigatoni (pictured) had amazing sauce and perfectly spicy/sweet Italian sausage. We finished off the night with sorbet and rocky road. The rocky road is rich and satisfying swirling hints of coffee, almond, cacao and marshmallow. The sorbet is perfectly sweet and topped with lucious whipped cream. I feel like it was because it was only my boyfriend and I who went so we didn't have the leisure of trying a lot of different items. Appetizers - The appetizers looked huge so we only tried the focaccia bread. It was decent... nothing crazy. Pasta - We both tried the Rigatoni and the plate was HUGE! Again, it was decent but nothing to rave about. I honestly prefer Little Nonna's rigatoni when comparing pastas in the area. Dessert - We love a good rocky road so we had to get that. Thanks to Phil Rosenthal's Netflix Philadelphia episode, we discovered this exceptional Italian gem. My husband booked it for my birthday (party of 4), and wow--what a treat! It's not every day I get to eat handmade pasta, and let me tell you, once you taste it, it's like going from black-and-white to full color compared to boxed pasta. We went all in: every antipasti and almost every pasta dish (5 out of 7). The frutti di mare was my favorite starter--perfectly seasoned seafood tucked into a house-made roll. My only critique? The portions lean small. For example, the roasted beet and fig salad was so tiny I only got half a fig and missed out on the rest of the flavors. The pasta stole the show. The Francobolli was the star--delicate little neck clams, an irresistible sauce, and focaccia perfect for mopping up every last drop. Speaking of focaccia, do not skip it. For dessert, we ordered all three. I'm not even a dessert person, but the peach sorbetto was light, refreshing, and the perfect ending after all that pasta. Service was top-notch--attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable without hovering. The service was 5 star, the food was delicious and the pasta was cooked to perfect al dente. In order of most delicious to least, I would choose the raviolo al uovo - it was so fresh and light, the rigatoni was the perfect balance of fatty and acidic from the red sauce, the tonnarelli was everything you want and expect from a cacio e Pepe, and although the gnocchi was flavorful and rich, it was slightly too heavy for me. The Arancini was very yummy especially with the salsa verde, and the Dungeness crab appetizer was gorgeous, fresh and buttery. Great wine, great cocktails, and overall amazing restaurant! Picking a rating for Fiorella was difficult, but after much deliberation, I'm settling on 3 stars. It's probably more like 3.5, but giving 4 would be too generous. I was lucky enough to get a reservation for inside the restaurant, which I am told is very difficult due to the popularity and size of the establishment. My dining companion really blew the hype for this place out of the water, but when I saw the extremely limited menu, I was like... why? Anyway, I went in with an open mind. Photos of everything we tried are included in my review. The specialty cocktail list wasn't very enticing to me, but I did try the Strawberry Moon and it was pretty good. My friend got the Rhubarb Drag Race and liked it, but I wasn't a fan. For the price, it should have come in a regular cocktail glass and not one that was child-size. The "salad" was pathetic. I mean... like, two bites, and not particularly delicious. Definitely wouldn't order it again, or push anyone else to get it (especially considering the price). The focaccia bread was not good, I've had better bread from Acme. And I didn't like that it didn't come with oil or seasonings for dipping. Would not get again. The blueberry cobbler was also a miss. I don't know what it was... maybe the basil? It just didn't taste like dessert, and would have been better a la mode. Onto the positives... the frutti di mere was outstanding. I could have eaten 6 of them. All of the fish was so tender, and the bread was perfect (better than the focaccia). It was seasoned to perfection, and worth every penny. The ricotta gnocci was not like your typical gnocci. Not heavy, not super filling. It was plump and cheesy and each bite was like a fluffy pillow in your mouth. Lastly, the Tonnarelli was good. It was so basic that I'm having a hard time raving about it, but it was a strong, simple dish. The pasta was good, you can tell it did not come out of a box. Given the food was hit-or-miss, and the menu was very limited, service became very important in my rating. While our server was very nice, she did not check on us enough (drinks left empty) and when we did request a refill, it took a looongg time. Overall, I'm glad I tried Fiorella, but I won't be making any grand effort to return. I just think the buzz is a little out-of-proportion with what they actually offer. read more

Living in Philadelphia in this era is like some kind of fever dream. I cannot believe I get to eat pasta this good in the rain on a sidewalk. This is one such place of MANY spots in town that have made me feel this way recently. Having heard the Fiorella hype since I moved here three years ago, and fantasizing about eating pasta since the Philly Somebody Feed Phil episode came out, my friend and I seized the opportunity (and reservation) last night. I am not sure how one goes about getting a seat at the counter or inside, but when I looked three weeks ahead they did have rezzies for their outdoor patio. Do go inside and look at the amazing kitchen and setup, but eating al fresco (even as it misted and rained) was lovely. They have a fully covered patio area so no worries there. Service was friendly, helpful, and fast. Food was perfection. We went with: + Grilled escarole. HIGHLY recommend this. Such a fun take on this veg with a lot of depth and complimentary elements. + Focaccia. Honestly could have skipped this, but I think most people would disagree. It adds to the meal and is tasty but not a necessity. + Ragu. The rigatoni is a staple on the menu and there's a reason. Do not come to this restaurant without your table ordering the ragu. + Cacio e pepe. Completely delightful, nothing unexpected here. Rich but we downed the whole plate with ease. + Rhubarb's Drag Race cocktail. Too tart for me to be complimentary to the cuisine but SO much fun. It comes with a lil poptart on top. I switched to a beautiful white for the meal and that was also fab. Your server will set you up with a wine that works for you. Our server recommended four plates but we were really very full with two pastas we split and one antipasti plate. I am coming back for the gnochhi! An amazing and authentic tiny Italian restaurant. You watch the homemade pasta being cooked right in front of you. The pasta filling is being added right before being cooked. Authentic Italian tasting. For an American, it may seem like it could use some salt, cheese, garlic... The winter salad was interesting. High vinegar and funnel taste. I don't think I would get it again but it was good to try. I also had the ricotta filled gnocchi and the Agnolotti. The gnocchi was my favorite. I think a little bit more Parmesan would send that dish! The Agnolotti was great when paired with the cooked mushrooms. Alone, the dish lacked a bit of flavor. Nothing a little bit for salt/pepper/butter couldn't fix. Service was good. There was an obvious rush to turn tables which took away from the experience. The waitstaff did not shy away from hiding their need to rush between tables. I really like to feel relaxed and enjoy the experience when going out. It was extremely windy, but the restaurant had magnets attached to the table to help keep napkins secured, a rather nice touch. Dining along philly's historic italian market on a bright spring day made for a spectacular ambiance, and thankfully the food went above and beyond expectations. Tuna Crudo: One of the best crudo's I've had. The dish was both vibrant in flavor and color. The tuna had a clean oceanic quality, and it's butteriness was only amplified by the high quality olive oil. The salsa verde's herbaceous goodness was tempered by the earthy and toothsome potatoes. Ricotta Gnocchi: Pillowy gnocchi with beautifully browned butter made for a luscious pasta. The asparagus added some visual flair and a important textural backbone that grounded the dish. Tonnareli Cacio e Pepe: Technical mastery on display. al dente pasta. Silky smooth sauce with perfect emulsion. My one small nit pick is that I found the dish lacking in heat and aromatics, and would've preferred a bit more pepper. Spaghetti Alla Chitarra: I was a bit skeptical on how the incorporation of wild boar into a spring pasta dish would fair. Like everything else on the menu, it was a homerun. Light and refreshing, while still being substantive in taste. The wild boar does a lot of heavy lifting by providing a savory-sweet component that elevates the dish. Overall ok experience at Fiorella! I would like to say that the restaurant does not allow outside food, I brought a small cake to celebrate a birthday and was told no outside food. So impressed with my recent visit here! It's been way too long since my last visit and I will definitely be returning again soon. The outdoor seating was even nicer than I remember and they have both covered and uncovered seating. We decided to try the focaccia bread, ricotta gnocchi and the fettuccini pomodoro. Fiorella has been on my list for so long, so I'm glad I was finally able to go! The inside is super cozy, and I love that you have a clear view of the cooks throughout your meal. Service throughout the evening was very attentive. We went on a Tuesday evening and were able to get a half-priced bottle of sparkling wine to split which was great. We got three pastas to split - the Cacio e Pepe Tonnarelli, Ricotta Gnocchi (with cipollini onions and brown butter), and Casoncelli (with beets, horseradish, and tarragon). It was all super tasty, but my favorite was definitely the gnocchi. It was super light, unlike a lot of denser gnocchi I've had. It was all excellent. But the gnocchi here with the brown butter and fried onion was the star. And the gnocchi themselves were pretty unique, unusually soft and fluffy but sooo good. I've heard it's tough to get a reservation here, so when my friend was able to grab a late dinner spot at the bar while I was in town, we were ecstatic! We loved the small and cozy vibe of the interior, and it's always fun to have an up-close view of the kitchen hard at work. I'm sure there's more fire Italian spots around the area but we had a great time here. We didn't get a chance to sit inside but that's mostly for reserved and we just got the table outside which is also nice! We got the rigatoni, mezzalune w/ guinea hen, and anolini. Get the guinea hen one! Just fantastic pasta for a great price! Wine and drinks were great! Service was nice too - we asked her do you ever eat the dishes here and what's something she does to mix it up. I threw in an analogy of like when I worked at a burger spot, I would throw milkshake mix into the coffee. She laughed and then came back and she threw in some truffle sauce on top of the guinea hen mezzalune! We discoursed and had a great time overall with food and service! It's a cute store that is in a quiet area. We went for dinner and ordered the stuffed dates and tigelle for antipasti and for the pasta we got rigatoni, tonnarelli, ricotta gnocchi, and maltagliati for four people. The stuffed dates were a crowd favorite and I particularly enjoyed the sauce. The endive added a nice crunch. We were not a fan of the tigelle. I found it rather dry and the taste was okay. The pastas are well portioned and generally good. My two friends' favorites are the gnocchi. It wasn't like most gnocchis I have and there were balls with filling inside. I like the pasta for the rigatoni and gnocchi. It was perfectly cooked and had a nice bounce in the noodle. The sauce was good, but did not standout to me. I really liked the sauce for the maltagliati, but I didn't like it with the super wide and thin pasta it was served with. I personally didn't enjoy the cacio e pepe. The server were nice enough. However, the food took quite a long time to come out, especially the pasta. It took 50-60 minutes for the pasta to come out. Overall. I like the but nothing blew me away. read more

We went for the pasta club tasting menu. All of the selections were tasty with homemade pasta and various sauces though nothing stood out as wow. Cacio e pepe is their most well known pasta but they dont offer it as part of the tasting menu unless you pay extra for it as a supplement (which felt a bit sneaky). Lots of variety on the beverages menu with wine, beer and cocktails. If you sit upstairs note it's 19 steps which would be a challenge for anyone with physical challenges. Also theres one table literally inches from a window AC. While the team did raise the temperature when we arrived I had air blowing on me all night. Overall our experience at Fiorella was quite good. We arrived around 5pm on a Monday and things were pretty empty. We were seated in the second floor dining room which was very nicely decorated. Overall service was fair. The real standouts of the experience were actually from the happy hour menu including the two pastas (gnocci and rigatoni) and the mozzarella appetizer. All of these dishes were absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were quite large for happy hour items. In addition to these dishes we ordered one additional pasta (the orecchiette), an order of focaccia, and the cherry bomb mocktail. The orecchiette was not quite as good as the other pastas as we felt the venison was a little tough and the flavor of the sauce just a touch unique for our taste. The cherry bomb was delicious. The focaccia was recommended by our server and comes with 4 pieces per order, but we felt it a good but probably unnecessary addition given the amount of carbs in the rest of the menu. Came here once before and loved it even more the second time. If you haven't been, SIT INSIDE if you can. It's worth it to get a reservation (which you will need regardless) inside where you can see all the action. The first time I went we sat outside and felt like the outdoor dining took away from the overall experience. The food is phenomenal, and inside you can see it being made. The bar seats surround the kitchen so it really feels like dinner and a show. I got the tagliolini with garlic, leeks, and anchovy and it was just perfect (and a huge portion). We also ordered two orders of the focaccia (we were a group of three and wanted everyone to have at least two slices) and wrapped up the night with their creamsicle (with matcha + pistachio + honey) ice cream. Since returning from a recent trip Capri, I had desired some fresh pasta and ingredient's. Well let me tell you, Fiorella did Not disappoint. Once inside this cozy and inviting restaurant we sat at the bar counter which gave us a view of the open kitchen to watch our meal prepared. Our server was super helpful in describing the wine selection and well as our food. We ordered the Ricotta Gnocchi to start which was amazing. Then we had the Cacio e Pepe and the Rotolo for our main entrees. Everything was fresh and delicious. We finished off with the Blueberry Crumb Cake which was light and full of blueberries. I tried Fiorella for the first time with a friend. We were lucky to get a reservation on a weeknight - the restaurant is small but there is some outdoor seating as well. We bundled up and got an outside table, which was covered and had heaters which helped! We ordered the dirty pasta water martinis (good), focaccia (huge and fluffy), and a few pastas to share. My favorite was the ricotta gnocchi which were pillowy and enhanced by the onions on top. We also got a delightful pumpkin trifle dessert - worth it! Very cute and it seems like the menu rotates so I'd look forward to going back and trying more items. read more

Everything good, the food the ambiance. Easy parking since it's in a mall. It doesn't feel like a mall restaurant, it feels a good restaurant anywhere. read more
