Fire at the Ridge is a restaurant and bar that opened at Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort in Middlefield, Connecticut in January 2016. The roots of the ski resort go back to January 1961 when it opened under the name 'Powder Hill', which was founded by brothers and appliance store owners Louis & Herman Zemel. By the 1970s, the name had changed to 'Powder Ridge'. By 1995, both of the Zemel brothers had passed away and the resort was sold off. The ski area was foreclosed in 2006 when it was more than $2.5 million in debt. The Town of Middlefield purchased the resort with plans to sell it to a private company. After several plans fell through, the resort finally opened under its current name in January 2014 under the ownership of Sean Hayes. Two years later, the full-service restaurant opened at the resort under the direction of chef Kevin Cottle: a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a two-time contestant on the hit TV show "Hell's Kitchen". My sons and I visited Fire at the Ridge this past Sunday for brunch. Our cousins had plans to have "Brunch with Santa" and asked if we were interested in coming. Although my wife was away for the weekend, we happily accepted the offer. Our cousins had previously visited for a "Brunch with the Easter Bunny" event and really enjoyed it. The interior of the restaurant was very clean and we loved all of the holiday decor. A holiday cocktail sounded good, so I ordered the "Spiked Cocoa" (hot chocolate served with vanilla vodka). For entrees, I had the "Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict" (poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, smoked salmon, home fries), my older son had the "Two Eggs, scrambled" (applewood bacon, home fries, toast), and my younger son had the "Kids French Toast with Berries". Everyone was very happy with their brunch choices; the food was delicious! My sons also enjoyed posing for photos with Santa Claus and we even had a surprise visit from The Grinch. Overall, we had an excellent experience at Fire at the Ridge and we look forward to returning for future dining events!

Karaoke by Mick is the only draw here on the first Sunday of every month. They recently changed their menu and there's nothing on it that's appealing. I go for karaoke and just want something to snack on and cauliflower crust pizza and tuna nachos aren't going to cut it. The new menu is VERY limiting. The drinks are also expensive. I do love the bartender though! Jamie!! Service outside is slow. You have to wait a good while for the drinks. Honestly if my friend Mick wasn't doing karaoke there I would not go. & oh... they ran out of vanilla vodka for the pumpkin martini

Honestly in terms of service and food everything was fine. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We had a simple lunch, a few burgers and some soup. It was pretty empty when we got there aside from a few people at the bar. I will say the fourth star is for the view- on one side there is a pond and the fall foliage is an awesome sight.

Rainy Wednesday night here in CT and was invited to check out Fire at The Ridge for happy hour. And I have to tell you, I had one of the juiciest burgers I have had in a good while. And on Wednesdays they are Half Price!! 3-6 What a deal! So good! Choice of salad or fries. I got the Caesar but I got to try the garlic parm fries as well. Wow! Tasty Tasty!

Cozy restaurant coming off the slopes. Modern bar, comfortable seating, and another private room for small parties. Charcuterie was standard with tasty sides of honey and fig jam. I ordered the etouffee which tasted pleasant, but I would hope for more spice in a Cajun dish. My wife ordered the eggplant parmesan, which was cooked and presented well, but the sauce did not have much flavor.

Parking: Tons as it is at a Ski Mountain in off season Decor: Very nice inside with an updated decor with stylish chairs and tables. HUGE outdoor patio with fire pits at the base of the mountain. Staff: Very friendly and attentive to your needs...my server was Jaime and she was on point. Food: Very tasty and well prepared...not what I was expecting but they blew my expectation out of the park. Price: Very reasonable, dinner for two with drinks less than $70 bucks. Overall: Extremely peaceful and will 100% be going back time and time again!

We heard about the…read morebottomless mimosa brunch here at Cast Iron Chef Chop House & Oyster Bar so we pulled up to check it out! Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the busy State Street is this gem. There's no private parking, but plenty of comfortable, spacious street parking right out front. Once inside you're immersed in a very fine-dining, elegant, laid-back atmosphere. Lots of woods, intimate-low lighting and upbeat music. I loved the vibes in here. The first room is your bar room where the rail is off to the left, but with plenty of seating to the right. If you continue through the room you enter the main dining room where it's all booths and other tables. Service: Stacey was our server. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start, but they smoothed out throughout the brunch. Food/Drinks: The mimosa was okay... It was REALLY strong because there's orange vodka and orange liqueur in it. It kinda killed the flavor for me because I'd prefer a traditional mimosa with minimal juice, but... no matter. They're bottomless... or supposed to be... Just be mindful of who your server is. Brunch can consist of a prix-fixed menu, which is what we did so we'll be going through that. First up were the Homemade Sausage Gravy and biscuits. These were super smothered and fantastic. Hot, savory, meaty, salty and even had a bit of a subtle sweetness. The biscuit was soft, butter and had crispy edges. Next up were the Cinnamon Rolls. These were HUGE. Lol. Like, how are we supposed to eat AND drink all of this stuff?! The exterior of the roll was crispy and the inside very soft. Not over-the-top sweetness or anything. These were very balanced. Next up were the Bananas Foster Pancakes. But this thing was enormous. It was so thick, like literally an inch thick. Lol. Fresh bananas sliced right on top, it cut like butter, was soft with the perfect crispy edges and these were AMAZING. Punch of sweetness up front, fluffy texture and just a great pancake. For dinner, this restaurant usually serves Cast Iron Popcorn instead of bread, so Stacey let us try it! It was smokey, a little-little sweet with a little bit of salt and maybe a hickory barbecue flavor. I liked it. Lastly, I chose the Steak & Eggs over Salmon & Eggs, but got to try both since my wife was with me. Each comes with gigantic fried potatoes, 3 eggs, a piece of toast, caramelized onions and your protein of choice. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare). The flavors were excellent. It was a little fatty and just was done very well. Value: $64.96 for bottomless mimosas and the prix-fixe menu. Probably the best value brunch in the state. SO MUCH FOOD and strong drinks. I don't know what else you'd want! In conclusion, I really enjoyed myself here and have revisited since my first time! Everything was just as awesome as the first. Check this place out if you're in the area!

We were there celebrating after a very tough stretch for my wife so we needed a good night out. Our salads actually had brown lettuce in it. Then my wife's scallops were way overcooked (I did not even think that was possible) and I ordered my burger Med Rate and cane out Ned Well. Again ghe server did not even seem to bat an eye. It was really about attention to detail and the steps of service. None of them were there. We saw employees walking past empty tables with dirty dishes and not help clear, and saw no teamwork. Maybe I am being to critical because I have been in this business for 35 years, but mayybe someone a manager or other employee will see this and will do something. This place was great about connecting and making the meal more enjoyable. Our server was a young lady named Nicole. She was passionate about the food and knowledgeable and down to earth. The food was EXCELLENT but elevated even more by the service we got from the servers and manager. Our steak was cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed the $1 happy hour oysters in the bar area. This place was just as enjoyable as a fine dining experience at a high end place like Flemings. In fact, this was better than Flemings location in West Hartford. We wanted a place that had sushi and steak and we found this place. Everything we had was over a 9/10 for us. The pimento Mac n cheese was so good as a side dish. The 30 day aged rib-eye was so good as a main course. We did give feedback about the crispy rice appetizer being too crispy and they just straight up comp'ed us for it. We weren't even trying to get it for free but they were so on top of everything. If you have a date night or special occasion, please consider this place. I will definitely return.

To end the night, we treated ourselves to the crème brûlée cheesecake, which was the perfect sweet finish. Great atmosphere, great food, and the kind of place you want to keep coming back to.
