I have been a long-time customer and eat here frequently. I frequent this place because I really like the food. I went in last week and ordered a bowl, and it hardly had any vegetables. I asked the worker Andres (the guy with the weird bandana on his head) if I could get just a bit more. He said that it would be an extra charge. Mind you, I have been a loyal customer for years, and I know what their portion size is. He became really nasty with me. He started to use foul words with me and get in my face as though I'm 10 years old. He was also pretty nasty with the other workers. I'm not sure why this establishment allows this type of this abuse towards the customers and other workers. Needless to say, I won't be coming back here. There is a new place on 10th and Avenue M by the new Arco. I hear that they give bigger portions. It's sad because I truly loved this place for many years. read more

Really good food. Although I give a 3 star review since they give you such a small amount of meat. I ordered the chicken and beef bowl and literally there was about 5 pieces of chicken and a little more of beef which there pieces of meat are tiny so that is not much. Visiting from Hawai'i we wanted to see how California makes Hawaiian food. There's a big sign on the window that says Poke Bowl so hey why not try it. Not exactly what we were expecting. They're island rice you'll probably never see in Hawai'i expect maybe at a Mexican restaurant. No real Hawaiian food but it was busy so we knew that it was worth the try. Well there is poke but we decided not to order it. Ordered a couple chicken bowls. It was delicious. Service was excellent and best the restaurant is clean. We went to Fire Island Grill this afternoon and we were blown away by how friendly, helpful, and efficient the staff is. The food was fresh, tasty, and cooked just right. Their outdoor patio was PERFECT! They easily accommodated my request for veggies instead of rice for my shrimp bowl. In fact, the veggies were so fresh and tasty, I think I'm going to get veggies instead of rice all the time. I walk with a cane and it's difficult for me to carry my food tray. The staff immediately jumped around the counter and took my food to the table in the patio. (FYI- portions are not huge, you won't be bringing anything home. Outstanding or horrific, I won't waste our time reviewing average. Yesterday I found myself out in the Palmdale area for work. I'm always excited when I have an excuse to try some new places away from the city. We were feeling hungry as we were headed back, so the homie J breaks out Yelp and starts looking for something promising. He came across Fire Island Grill, and with the good rating, we headed straight for it. Hawaiian was sounding just about right. The menu had some bowls and platters and you could choose the base such as white rice, brown rice, or veggies. Pretty much the norm, but they also had Island Rice and Island Noodles which really sparked our interest. After being told what it was, we were a little less excited bout it, but it was interesting none the less. Island rice is long grain rice cooked with coconut milk and black beans, Island Noodles, well they said it's just noodles with green onions. I decided to get a platter since it came with mac salad (I'm a sucker for Hawaiian mac salad) with steak and chicken, brown rice and island rice, with their fire teriyaki sauce. I hit the restroom to wash my hands, and when I come out (30 seconds maybe) I see them scooping my food from a warming tray. Hm. I get my drink, sit down, and they are coming up to us with our food already. I'm not one to jump to any conclusions, so I was excited to see what Fire Island Grill was all about. I mean, they are the experts, so if the food in the warming trays was how they got their 4 star / 282 rating, I was game! The food looked good, so expectations were high at this point, but sadly that is where this meal takes a bad turn. My steak and chicken both tasted and had the texture of being cooked quite a while before we got it. Both were dried out and not fresh. They weren't foul tasting, but definitely not fresh. The veggies were mushy and also just warm. Definitely cooked way before they were served to us. Island rice, meh. Brown rice was good. Mac salad, the one that swayed me to get the platter, not good. It was not like any Hawaiian Mac I have ever had. It was similar to what I have tried at Souplantation. Now I won't say I hate this place, cause if I HAD to, I would eat it again. However, I would never choose it again. I can see how it has potential, but serving just luke warm, dried out food just isn't the business. There was nobody in the place, so there wasn't any type of rush on their part. Even if they had warmed it up on the grill before serving it may have made all the difference. I had left about half my meal, thinking I would hit another place to eat on the way home, (I know I know, I'm bad) but we ended up just driving straight back since we were no longer starving. 2 stars since it could be worse. read more

Tasty food, incredible deal! First time to this cute restaurant, and it was an excellent experience. They have a pretty simple, clear menu featuring bowls, salads, or sandwiches. At slightly higher price they offer Island platters. The dining room has lots of small tables, as well as booths. Today, I got a seat at a larger Booth. Very comfortable! There is one large screen TV in the dining room. Naturally, the artwork includes photos of palm trees. Wow-- just like being in Hawaii! I especially like the fact that the calories are clearly listed for each item. They also have daily specials. Today, I ordered the pulled pork Bowl special which was only about $8. It includes a drink! Truly an outstanding value. My bowl was prepared in about 45 seconds. It was very tasty and the ingredients matched exactly what the menu stated. We wanted to try this place because it had a decent rating and it was open for a last minute dinner option. I'm not really sure why it has such good reviews. I normally take photos of my food, but this was just sad. I ordered the island bowl with "island" noodles. Turns out "island" noodles are just a pile of cheap, boiled spaghetti noodles that are stored in a metal drawer until they plop them into your bowl. For the protein, I ordered char grilled chicken which was dried chicken breast cut into tiny cubes that wasn't seasoned and had little to no flavor. The veggies were subpar and also lacked flavor. I chose the spicy teriyaki pineapple sauce both on top and on the side. Thank goodness I did because that was the only saving grace to the meal. Even then, it didn't have a pineapple taste at all. Mostly just a sweet and savory sauce that was spicy. Overall, I had to drown the bowl in sauce to make it remotely palatable. The bowl was about 90% noodles and 5% chicken and 5% veggies. I WOULD NOT recommend this place. It's very unfortunate that places like this don't represent the island flavor and culture well. The staff was really friendly though which earns this establishment a star. read more

It's so tasty! Even when ordering through delivery apps, the food tastes fresh and is consistently delicious. The location is great with plenty of parking, and they have covered outdoor seating. Staff are super friendly, and even though they don't have regular table service, someone will still typically come by to ask how my food was, and later they collect dishes. I get that people are having a hard time but the people ordering from your business are literally supporting you, you should not treat them as if they are inconveniencing you. Great recommendations from a very helpful counter staff. The Luau Pork Platter with half special rice and half noodles, perfectly cooked (al dente) sautéed vegetables sprinkled with tasty sesame seeds with a macaroni salad. I was hungry and this platter quenched my hunger. Delicious tender and moist pulled pork with lightly spicy pineapple sauce was wonderful. I've had their food twice. The first time, it was just okay. The second time, almost two years later, was so much better! I had a large order which included the Chile Lime Tilapia Sandwich, the Mango-Passion Chicken Salad, the Surf & Turf platter and the Pulled Pork plate. The food was really good! The tilapia filet for the sandwich was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The chicken was not overcooked in the salad and the veggies and mango slices were fresh. My family said that the order dishes had gotten better and definitely wouldn't mind re-ordering from Fire Island Grill. As far as the staff goes, they are always friendly. Just bought 3 of their chicken sandwiches. Usually it's a nice big chicken breast on there but Instead they put chopped chicken in all 3 that just fell apart and was cold. The blackened shrimp were not fresh but frozen and definitely not blackened. The peanut sauce was different... seemed like jar peanut butter watered down. I don't know if the restaurant just stopped caring about using bright and fresh ingredients but it was definitely disappointing....I know this restaurant can make better food than what we had today! I like this place. It's a pretty healthy alternative Hawaiian spot. They make great salads, my favorite being the Ceasar. The dressing is really good. Unfortunately, I wanted to try something out of my usual salad and got the luau pulled pork platter. It wasn't edible. I'm not sure if the pork was old or just there too long. The steak and chicken are also hit or miss if it isn't made fresh. The only thing I would recommend is the shrimp, they heat up that to order and it's tasty. If you read this Fire Island, please try to get your workers to put meat as fresh as possible. If I was a first time customer, I would not come back. Everything on that platter, the veggies, island rice, and Mac salad, I enjoyed... but the meat ruined it. Cutting corners isn't good business practice. We used to lIve in Lancaster from 2008-2014 and used to frequent the Fire Island Grill allot. They have the best chicken/steak bowls Hawaiian style anywhere. So being excited me and my wife stopped back in here for dinner after not eating here for about 4 years now and was disappointed in the upkeep inside the restaurant. The floor is now dirty looking with spilled food on it and dirty tables not being cleaned that were dirty before we even sat down to eat. One of the girls that works here took her break at a dirty table to eat without cleaning it off for herself yuck! We were here for about 1 hour and these tables were not even touched and there was 3 girls working here and they just kept passing the tables up and it was not busy here at all. When we left there was no customers in the restaurant see my pics. We have always loved this place and its sad to see it go down hill. Im sad I couldn't give it a five star like i wanted. read more

I'm a little heartbroken. We've always loved this place. But I'm not sure what's happened recently. The service is terrible and the food is crummy. On our most recent trip we came in at 8:05. Yes, this was late for dinner but the restaurant is open until 9:30. As we ordered, we were told we could not order fresh meat. The meats that were prepared and drying out in the warmer were all that were available. Also, there were no noodles available. Rice it was. Lastly, we asked for the military discount that we've always used. We were told that we could not use this discount on our 4 meals because we purchased 1 daily special.
