This place was tired and dated. Our waitress couldn't have cared less about us. We went for our anniversary. Checked the boxes on the website when we made the reservation...asked for a booth...asked to go slow so we could enjoy. We were seated at a table (booths were open) but decided not to make a fuss. Ordered an appetizer to share - Black and Blue Crustini. It was not like the description...no Filet to be found anywhere. I would have sent it back but I had the feeling the waitress would not care. Ordered the prime Rib with a wedge salad. I was not even finished with the salad when the Prime Rib arrived. The server tried to take away my wedge salad to make room on the table for the Prime Rib . I told home to wait... so he stood there holding the Prime Rib while I finished my salad. Talk about awkward...but he seemed not to care. Prime rib was good -no complaints there. My wife ordered the Halibut grilled. Completely untasty. No salt and no pepper or seasoning to be found. Had to flag down staff to get lemon just to help. Waitress never checked in on us to see how we were doing. She finally showed to give us the check...no mention of our special night nor any mention about how everything was. Food: for appetizers we ordered Calamari and the crostini. Calamari was a bit disappointing, it lacked the seafood flavor it deserves. I prefer cheesecake's calamaris way more. The crostini was a recommendation from our serve and big big kudos to her because that was delicious! I highly recommend to get that if you'll be going here. For the main dishes, I got the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and Cesar salad. I loved the Cesar salad! The dressing is the star of the salad. My husband ordered a burger and he was happy with it. My mother in law ordered the fish and chips--if you're a seafood restaurant, your fish and chips should be on point and theirs was definitely pretty damn good. This is my favorite ocean front restaurant in Ventura. It's located next to the parking structure. Theres a boardwalk out front too so you can take a stroll or sit on a bench and enjoy watching the waves. Call ahead and make a reservation. You want to ask for a booth or if you want to watch the sunset over the ocean- ask for one of the tables next to the glass window. Everything I've tried so far is delicious. One of my favorites are their SPICY AVOCADO EGG ROLLS. They're fried to perfection: crispy, with a creamy filling and hints of sun dried tomato. This dish comes on a bed of little white crunchy noodles that I ended up sprinkling on top with the dipping sauce. If you love bleu cheese and mushrooms, I recommend the BLACK AND BLEU TOP SIRLOIN medium.. it is to die for. I ordered it with the house salad and was not a fan of cranberries on top. I also ordered a side of SWEET POTATO FRIES. Some of the best I've ever had and the portion was plentiful. It took a lot of willpower to stop eating after I was full. My hubby got the PRIME RIB with garlic mashed potatoes and that was incredible as well!! I haven't had a Bloody Mary in a while and was craving something spicy other than my go t spicy Margie's, so I went for it. My goodness, it hit the spot! Returned to Aloha for my birthday dinner last week and overall had a nice experience. The drinks are always great here - the Malibu Third Point is my favorite! I loved the herb crusted salmon as well as the sides of creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. Perfectly cooked salmon for the 3 of us who ordered it. The entrees come with one side but I love that you can add additional sides for only $3 (including a side salad or soup). I took some of my dinner home and it was equally as good the next day. The prices were reasonable as well. Our server was just fine - he was friendly but did seem to forget about us on a couple of occasions. Ambiance is one of the main reasons people come here - hard to beat that ocean view! Be sure to bring your parking ticket if you park in the structure as they will validate for two hours! read more

Dog friendly, nice place to people/dog watch and great service! We came here for the cowboy steaks. It came with a side (we chose loaded garlic mashed potatoes) and also had side salad. Wife also had the clam chowder and said it was one of the best she's had. They actually had clams, and tasted like clams instead of bacon. The steaks were a good size and depending on your appetite, can have left overs or enjoy the whole steak! The loaded garlic mashed potatoes were good. They had sour cream, cheese and chives. We were originally going to order a cheap steak for the pup, but the waitress informed us they had a chicken or beef menu for pups ( was reasonably priced around $7 for either or). I wish I took a pic of the dog portions ( wife thought it was too much to feed for one meal so we had left overs for our pup too). The steaks were cooked well near the bone (I like my steaks rare and near the bone is usually undercook, but they did a great job cooking it). The 2 stars was for the view of the ocean. Went to Ventura for the weekend and last night we decided the view and the restaurant looked like a good spot to dine. Servers name was Christi, we got there at 7:23 sat on the patio so we could see the sunset. Too bad the clouds were in the way. Our order was not taken right away. We got drinks and our appetizer around 7:50. We got the artichoke, so much lemon it was hard to eat, too bitter. We waited to order the food, that took another 25 minutes. We waited almost a full hour to get the food and we were told it was due to a large party indoors. It wasn't that bad tbh (I'm a chef they had plenty of servers for that) there were only two of us. Our plates finally came when we were about to get up and ask to pay for what we had had and leave. The plates were sloppy. The food just tossed on. Small portions and if you want sides it's 3 dollars more for every side. So you can have a lobster tail and a baked potato but don't think you'll be wowed over it. For two people the total w tip 189.00 not worth it at all. And vegetables or salad with it cost 3 dollars more, not really a good place for a large group. The server did give us a dessert for having to wait for so long, she brought out an ice cream cake slice to share. This came after waiting again just to get the check. It was almost 10 pm when we left. If you have plans after dinner like we did don't go here. Service was too slow if you don't sit inside they don't seem to care. The lobster was ok slightly tough. The Parmesan crusted orange roughy was good. When we got there it was daylight when we left the beach was already closed as was everything else. Had such a great dinner at Aloha Steakhouse in Ventura. The food was delicious (perfectly cooked steak and amazing sides), but what really made the night was our waitress, Joleen. She was warm, attentive without hovering, and just had the best energy. You can tell she genuinely cares about her tables. And the ocean view? Unreal. We had a great time @ Aloha Steakhouse. We stayed across the street @ the Crown Plaza hotel and decided to hop over to Aloha for Dinner. From the moment we walked in I knew we were in for a good time. The vibes were festive, cozy, and intimate The highlight of our night aside from the yummy food and great company; was our server Evan. He started by making drink recommendations (pictured - lemon drop and blood orange margarita.) They were soo yummy. At that point we decided we would let Evan take the wheel and recommend everything else we had that night. It did NOT disappoint. We were soo happy with our appetizer and dinner selections. @ Evan thank you for giving us such a great dining experience. Your hospitality is superb. Keep doing what you do!! I started with the incredible wedge salad -- the large head of lettuce was fresh and crisp. The tomatoes were ripe and paired well with the tangy blue cheese dressing. The blue cheese crumbles cheese crumbles rounded out the dish perfectly. I'm vegetarian, so I ordered mine without bacon. For my entree, I ordered the Bistro Vegan Burger. Since converting to vegetarianism, I'm not able to eat burgers as often as I used to. I otherwise would have missed out on this burger in my carnivorous days. It was terrific, and not once did I miss a beef patty. I'm not sure what the patty was composed of (I don't think it was Impossible or Beyond), but it was sizable and meaty. The vegan mozzarella cheese added a familiar, tasty layer of creaminess. However, the star of the show was the blend of caramelized onions and mushrooms -- the rich, earthy flavor of the mushroom was elevated by the sweetness of the caramelized onions. I ate the vegan bacon separately. I find the artificial smoke flavor too overpowering, and I don't think it would have added much to the sandwich. I also ate the spring mix separately as eating the burger as a handheld was difficult as is. The fries were also excellent -- lightly seasoned and fried to perfect crisp. The service was excellent, and I liked the laid-back atmosphere. I hope to return soon to explore the menu. read more

The Food was just ok . I drove 30min because it was recommended by my coworker. To be honest. It was only the calamari that was tasty. I got the halibut fish and chips. First, the positives! Service was friendly and attentive, and the artichoke and mushroom appetizer was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Both the regular ribeye and the filet were cooked perfectly and very enjoyable. Now, the disappointments. Unfortunately, the Alaskan King Crab legs--one of the main reasons I chose this restaurant--have apparently been off the menu for over a year, though they're still listed online. The Cowboy Ribeye was far too salty; it truly tasted like a mistake. We should have sent it back, but that's never easy to do in the moment. The lamb was also slightly overcooked, so if you prefer it pink, I'd recommend ordering it medium rare. I had noted in our reservation that we were celebrating two birthdays, but that went unacknowledged. We were also seated at a table right by the front door, with no view--disappointing, especially since I'm a local and had chosen this restaurant to give my out-of-town guests an ocean-view experience. Overall, while the service and a few dishes were excellent, several missed details and unfulfilled expectations left the evening feeling less special than I had hoped. read more

We stayed another day in Ventura. We decided to try out Aloha Steak in Ventura on a Wednesday evening, right by the beach near the pier, this place was lively! Even midweek, it was packed, but we got a table quickly and checked out their happy hour menu, which was seriously awesome. We got a bit carried away with the ordering--the clam chowder was a total standout, super creamy and bursting with flavor. The chicken satay was alright but a little dry. The fish and chips were solid, with flaky fish and perfectly crispy fries. And the shrimp cocktail? Those shrimps were huge and super fresh. Service was a bit slow, likely because of a big party in the restaurant keeping the staff busy. Still, the food quality was top-notch, and the ocean view from our table was fantastic--such a great Ventura beach vibe. Plus, free parking with validation was a nice perk. Service was embarrassingly slow but nothing compares to the disappointment of the filet. Knowing they had "black and blue" fillets on the menu we specifically asked if they could do "rare or blue if possible but not charred - no char" and we were told yes. The food came out overly charred and after bringing it up it was taken back. Second time it came out it was pretty much the same but instead of complaining we cut into it, inspected and left it. For context: A blue steak is very rare, with a cool red center and a minimal, uncharred exterior, while a black and blue steak has a heavily charred, black exterior and a cool red, rare center, resulting from being cooked on extremely high heat for a very short time. One of the great advantages of vacation is the opportunity for progressive dining. While we had dinner elsewhere (no reflection on having a good steak dinner, we were in the mood for something else) we decided to come here for dessert. The staff was accommodating, appreciated the timing for the dessert prep and took the effort to check options for us. We also found this restaurant a great place for activities. We came specifically for the Volcano Soufflé. This takes 25 for preparation, so we ordered quickly. In the interim we saw Bananas Foster being made, see pic. And there was a small birthday jubilee close by, see my pic. The birthday bunch was having a great time with the frame et al. So the 25 minutes went by very quickly. While the Volcano Soufflé didn't have the presentation of the menu picture, it was still quite decadent and rich, see my pic. While the chocolate cake was good, the molten center was great. Not to make this any sweeter, the molten chocolate was heightened with the crunch of the Heath Bar on top (you can see this in my pic). The ice cream was sweet and creamy. We came for happy hour and sat at the bar side. Although there was a crowd it wasn't overly busy. Our waitress was attentive but the food and drinks came out a bit slow. The Maui Martini looked pretty but there wasn't much flavor and I barely tasted any alcohol. The Spicy Margarita also looked pretty and was ok, but it was too spicy for me so I removed the jalapeño from the drink but the whole drink was already spicy. If you like a bit of heat in your drink then you might enjoy this. I also didn't taste much alcohol in this one either. My friend tried the Mai Tai and she said it tasted good but strong. So I guess it depends on what you order since both my drinks were light. The spinach dip w/ jalapeño toast tasted good. The seared Ahi Tuna wrap was presented very pretty and tasted quite yummy with the wasabi sauce. The sliders came with regular hamburger patties, but you can upgrade the patty to prime rib for an additional $3, we opted to try it as is. It came with cheese only so was quite plain and the bun was too dense, especially the top part. Since the patty was small and the bun was thick I tasted more bread than meat. The fries were good and crispy. For the chicken satay you can select grilled or blackened. We got the grilled ones, it came with 4 skewers and a side of peanut sauce. It was tasty. Everything was ok but nothing really amazed me. They offer decent options for their happy hour so will have to come back to try the other items on the menu. read more

A friend recommend this place, should have know better when she went a couple years ago maybe it was nice, not any longer. We asked to sit inside with a view, taken to a dump of a dining room, old and dated is being kind. No one comes to our table for 18-20 mins. I finally have to ask loudly does anyone work here??? Someone does come in 5 mins. Takes our order and I figure we better get a appertizer with the drink order cause of the slow service, after a long wait again we ask where are the appetizer and drinks, excuse was the bar is busy....NOT accepting that excuse!! drinks come another 15 mins after the appertizer.I will say the Prime Rib was very good, one side is all you get for $47.00 no bread service either.No ones comes to see if you need anything, asked twice for horseradish. Server was fast with the bill !! I would have thought they would bring a small Ice cream or something for her birthday, I had to ask and they asked what desert do you want, my daughter said cheese cake and it came with a price $17 for a slice.....OH!!!
