Well after driving past this place for years, my wife and I decided to give this place a try and we are mad at ourselves for not trying this any sooner! This place is phenomenal! Located on Telegraph, you will find this resteraunt near the mall. Has a vintage vibe, hard to miss when your driving on Telegraph. We stopped by for dinner around 6pm and this place was BUSY! We ordered a couple sandwiches and the food was absulotely flavorful and of great quality. Prices were decent and the menu had a great variety. We tried a couple of their deserts and they were so good!! Don't overlook their deserts, you will regret it trust me. The service here on top of it was great. The ladies working here are very friendly and helpful. Gave us great reccomendations and we appreciated that. I actually hated the Philadelphia Cheese Steak. You pretty much mainly taste the pepper, grilled onions, and mushroom with hints of the meat and cheese. Tried the eclair and it was okay! I really hate to leave a 2 star review because our past experiences here have been really great,...I am so disappointed with our corned beef and cabbage dinners my husband and I got on St. Pattys Day... it was our first time ordering it from here and we order it every year from other restaurants... this was definitely not a true corned beef and cabbage dinner! The way they served it was so disappointing and meat was gross! They laid thin slices (like what they put on sandwiches) across mushy overcooked cabbage but what was really gross was the fat in the meat! It consumed almost every piece! Rather than thick, lean steak like slices, which is how every other restaurant we've had it at serves it, we were served these gross fat consumed thin slices of what resembled corned beef. Completely inedible! I ordered it to go, on my way home - unfortunately did not discover how horrible it was until we got home and we live almost 8 miles away so I couldn't just bring it back! Had we dined in we would've sent it back immediately! An absolute waste of $47! And total disappointment over our St. Patrick's Day dinner! I have been going for breakfast after Mass and the food is consistently delicious. I have tried their chorizo and eggs, pancakes, bacon, hash browns... all have been great. The service is great. And the food comes out pretty fast. On the times I have eaten non breakfast food, their Matza ball soup is food for the soul. I don't know if they still serve liver (for those of us that love liver), but when I had it a few years ago, again, it was delicious. This is one of the landmark restaurants that you don't find in this day and age they have that down to earth home-cooked meal feeling that doesn't leave you on an empty stomach when you leave. Amazing desserts always try to leave room because they leave you mystified in the end. You have to go to this place. It is absolutely beautiful and their menu is incredible. I had to come and have the blackened chicken pasta but they have about 5000 other things I wanna try and don't even get me started on the desserts. This is an American diner lovers's dream oh my God I'm going to come here and try the fried pickles. I'm gonna try the pastrami sandwich. I'm gonna try everything that makes me gain literally 5000 pounds because I'm middle aged and I'm already fat... This place is incredible. The pasta dish is incredible. Friends had recommended trying Danny's deli if we were in Ventura at lunchtime. Good recommendation! Able to get a spot in their parking lot right behind the restaurant. No problem getting a table at noon on a Thursday. I ordered the farmers omelette ($17) with potatoes on the side and a bagel for my bread. The omelette was loaded with ham and lots of cheese. Quite tasty but the highlight of the lunch was the potatoes. DELISH!!! My wife got the turkey wrap ($17) with the side of housemaid potato chips. The wrap was good. The food was excellent. Three of us went there and tried:: The shepherds pie, simple but flavorful/delicious, warning if you don't like onions and bell peppers I'd avoid it. I en joyed it. The hot pastrami with dipping au jus was excellent. The chicken fried steak was good. Both according to my friends that had them. The service was EXCELLENT, friendly, attentive and other staff stepping in to refill drinks or remove dishes. An all around good experience. I am grading down on the pies though. The coconut cream pie was probably the worst I've ever had, the cheesecake was dry and lackluster. However, the pecan pie was quite good! GETTING HERE: Located on the corner of Telegraph Road and North Dunning Street. It's next door to St. Bonaventure High School and you can access parking on the side street or in their lot. I've been here many times over the years, and I am so thankful they made it through to the other side of shutdown and c0vid. On this most recent visit, my guest and I were quickly greeted and seated towards the back of the restaurant. Super busy staff, super busy with customers. :) We were able to place our orders and I ordered (what I thought) was an Italian Salami and my guest ordered the Reuben. Our food was delivered quite quickly, considering how busy they were. My guest devoured her Reuben; absolutely loved it. My sandwich was OK, but in hindsight they have 2 different Italian sandwiches. I inadvertently was delivered the sub, which has baloney. I didn't realize it until I was about 1/2 done. It's OK, but I was craving the salami. :) Really do recommend heading to Danny's. Great food. I've passed by this place on my way to work and church. I've always wondered what lied inside of it. It's been there since I could remember. I heard this place had a Monte Cristo sandwich which is a sandwich that has a national day that falls on my birthday The atmosphere is casual and welcoming! Th e hostesses are incredibly sweet and warm. The waitress I had was Kathleen. She was so gracious with time and gave me enough of it to order my meal. She was swift and heartwarming. Not to mention, but she was amazingly helpful with telling me to pair my meal with an old-fashioned egg cream. And it tasted like the one I had in New York back in 2014. The food arrived quickly, despite it being a little busy. The sandwich was impeccable. Not too hard, yet not too soft and mushy. Well, it is deep fried, so it's definitely not mushy at all. Dannys, not Dennys, is a tiny deli restaurant with booths and middle chair areas. The middle chair areas were available, but the experience is significantly worse than if you would have the option of the booths. However, the booths take more time waiting for as there is a large line. Upon entering, there is a classy ambiance like IHOP and Dennys. The population is of elderly. The menu was massive, and they are known for Reubens and pastrami sandwiches as these are the most popular. However, I ordered their popular Reuben and had better tasting and better quality sanwhiches in Las Vegas. The sandwiches also tasted better at Greenbergs with more sweet sauce flavoring and savory salty meats. The size of the sandwich was small for 17$, so value is not the greatest. The star of the show is the French dip. This underrated sandwiche was not highlighted, and it was a 9/10 in flavor and quantity. It had an amazing taste to it with the au jus sauce. My Reuben, which was popular and highlighted, was a 7.5/10. Although decent, it was not a great value and was salty without much sweetness to it. I ordered a fruit side, and it was okay. Ambiance is peaceful but uncomfortable because we don't want to wait for a table to eat at the comfortable booths. The chairs were scrunched in the middle with hard pads and poor support for your back. The table is also narrow and placed horribly in the restaurant. It was crowded when entering, which may or may not be good. If crowded, people like it. But it also leaves you with the crappy seats. The price, service, and value overall was okay in 2023 as compared to others l, but could have been better with a better ambiance and better value. Feel when you walk in service is always been very friendly and quick. There's cases on the left side filled with desserts, cookies, cakes, pies, as well as their deli items. They make fresh bagels and breads. The food is always good portions for good prices and pretty darn tasty multiple soup was a classic, the latkes (potato pancakes) were ok, but we're really takes the cake (other than their cakes) are there deli meats. Years later and this is STILL my comfort food hot spot. They have it all under one roof. My server is always nice, prompt and super accommodating in fulfilling my comfort food fantasies. Recently had a chocolate chip pancake, potato latkes, potato knish with gravy, Ruben sandwich, German chocolate cake and as usual, matzo ball soup. It was all piping hot and STELLAR! I try matzo ball soup every city I go and Danny's CANNOT be beat. It's so similar to my grandmothers: savory chicken broth, carrots, onions, celery, dill, parsley, noodles, perfectly dense (huge) matzo balls and whole chicken (not cut up breast pieces--bleh!). My first time dining in at Danny's Deli today and it was a pleasurable experience. I have previously gotten take out latkes from here, as they are the only Jewish deli in the area, but had never had an opportunity to dine in. The latkes are delicious, by the way! My parents came up from Northridge to have lunch with me today and Danny's Deli seemed like a good casual place for us to go. Being from Northridge, we are used to the excellence that is Brent's Deli. Danny's did not disappoint! My dad ordered the pastrami reuben, my mother the philly cheesesteak, and myself the chicken avocado sandwich. All were very tasty and generous portions - we all took half of our sandwich home. The waitress was very friendly. The prices are reasonable as well. I look forward to coming back and trying some of the breakfast items. Overall, it was a very nice meal and we all agreed we would be back. My only minor complaints would be that I ordered a piece of dutch apple pie, which we shared - the apples and crumble were delicious but the crust on the bottom was unfortunately soggy and not very good. While staying in Ventura this week, we decided to give Danny's Deli a try. The restaurant is very clean and inviting and the staff is friendly. We ordered the New York size Hot Corned Beef Sandwich. I'm an old school deli guy and I spent a number of years supplying old school delis in the Los Angeles Metro area with their corned beef, pastrami and all the other meats they required. The sandwich we expected based on their description was not what we got. Our sandwich had a meager portion of corned beef and most delis have a pickle set up, here no. For $19 I can go to Brent's Deli and get a sandwich piled HIGH with corned beef. read more
