We were taken to a booth and the seats and table were wet from the quick wipe it had just been given. It wasn't just wet, there were also lots of crumbs that had been left behind. As I looked around, I noticed that the floors were littered with trash and food also. Straw wrappers, napkins and bits of food were present under each and every table. I understand that during a busy rush, the staff probably can't take the time to sweep, but even after the rush nobody bothered to address it. There was a gentleman bussing tables who stayed "on patrol", though. He circled the dining room at regular intervals and made sure that dishes were cleared in a timely manner. I see you, sir! We were greeted right away and our drink orders were taken. That young lady was very kind and upbeat, which was quite welcoming. When she returned with our beverages, she offered to take our orders, but we weren't ready. And just like that, she ditched us! J/K, but kind of for real. A different waitress appeared and took over from there. She was efficient and took good care of us, but in a way, she wasn't as warm. She was no-nonsense and straight to the point. Our food was decent. My husband had The Special, which is a basic breakfast plate (eggs, French toast and bacon), I had the turkey club with fries, and my in-laws both had phily steak sandwiches with fries. The food didn't come out super fast, but that gave us time to settle-in and not feel rushed. It was quite nice and a change from what my husband and I are accustomed to where we live. We had a leisurely meal and caught up with old friends who wandered in and out during our meal. That was another clear sign that this place is a local favorite.

Since our hotel " hot breakfast" was a complete joke, we are back here for breakfast. Awesome again. You stop in Danville, hungry, stop at Gilbert's street cafe.

I would've liked to get a salad, but they only had iceberg lettuce and due to it's lack of nutritional value I thought that to be a waste of space in my stomach. The only other veggie options I saw were overcooked green beans (limp and watery) and broccoli chicken or pepper chicken. All veggies come sauced and with chicken, apparently! What I did get onto my plate was hit or miss. The trend seemed to be that the Asian options were the best. The general tso's, sweet n' sour and teriyaki chicken were good. The teriyaki had a few dry pieces, but I think they just weren't that fresh. The same with the fried shrimp. It was really hard and tasted old. The egg roll was mushy and disappointing, though. The macaroni and cheese was disgusting. The mashed potatoes and gravy tasted instant, but I have a soft spot for instant potatoes! A little salt and pepper and they were just fine. I had two helpings. I managed to find some plain ole steamed cauliflower that I paired with the clarified butter meant for the crab legs that were on special for Father's Day. The staff were nice and kept our plates cleared, but a refill of my soda was hard to come by. They do offer a 10% discount for seniors over the age of 60, which is nice. We finished off the meal with ice cream, served in individual cups. They also offered chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip that you scoop yourself... definitely not the most sanitary.

Our last trip across town for it was truly disappointing, but I digress. For those reasons, whenever we are in Danville, IL we like to stop by this location to pick up a meal to enjoy with family or to grab a quick bite on our way out of town. On this visit, they were offering a $6 Fish Basket. That was right up our alley. Two pieces of fish, waffle fries and two hush puppies for $6. We each ordered one and a drink to share. We sat in the parking lot to enjoy our meals before hopping back on the highway. Everything was hot and fresh. So much so that I forgot to take a picture until the meal was almost gone. The fish was a bit greasy, but I'm almost certain that the grease was clean. You can just tell when it's old, the fish will have little black bits on it. Service was fast and efficient. They gave us plenty of condiments and napkins as well. We will continue to come here when we're in town.

They provide very good service and an easy location to get to. I have to admit, if I hadn't been coming here for a long time I may question the outside appearance. It could use a little updating but the food is delicious. We had both fish and chicken during this visit and I was happy that they didn't taste the same which happens at some fried food places.

It was brimming with fresh garlic, basil and capers. It was beautifully presented with a garnish of marinated basil leaves, tomato, green pepper and onion. We ordered a second basket of their delightful dinner rolls, just to continue enjoying the sauce. As great as the dipping sauce was, their Minestrone soup was one of the best of all that I have had the pleasure of enjoying. The pasta was comprised of penne as well as tortellini, the vegetables were likewise adventurous : artichoke hearts, zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes (of course), onions, and capers (see the photo). The stock was rich and flavorful, accented by pieces of lemon , ever so slightly reminiscent of one of my favorite Greek soups, Avgolemono; yet definitely replete with the classic Italian mystique that is Minestrone. The Veal Parmigiana was awesome and their Limoncello Mascarpone was a good rendition of the classic Italian dessert. Our server was the best, and handsome to boot!!

Then some random guy, a friend of the waitress who had been sitting and talking to her on Her breaks, got up and refilled our drinks which were empty for quite awhile.
