HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Found this place back in Spring 2011 when-then my fiancé and I moved in Newport. We ate at Newport Tokyo House and wondered into this building, had no idea what it was, bought tickets and we were hooked. Came back many times until we moved out of Newport. Never thought we'd be back in Newport again but once we moved into our home we went straight back to watch the Bit Players. We'll be returning until we leave again this Summer

This bar & restaurant has three floors filled with plenty of entertainment until 1AM. We started off our first night in Newport by having an early dinner here on a Friday. We sat ourselves at the bar on the first floor. The bartenders were friendly and attentive - no complaints on service. To start off, I ordered my usual drink... a classic margarita. It was strong and tarty with a good kick. Their menu offers your typical American pub food like burgers, sandwiches, wings, tacos, wraps, etc. They had a BOGO deal for their spicy fried chicken sandwich (~$14), so we couldn't resist saying no to that lol. The meal included a spicy fried chicken, lettuce, pickles, and spicy aioli sauce on a brioche bun with a side of fries. The portion size was generous and just enough to fill my belly, but not enough to put me into a food coma. The chicken was tender and juicy and I loved how fluffy and buttery the brioche bun was. There was a little too much batter on the chicken than I would have liked, but it was still a delicious sandwich nonetheless. The fries were super crispy and crunchy, 10/10. I'm curious to know what their other sandwiches taste like! Around 8pm, it turns into more of a bar/club atmosphere. It gets progressively packed and loud. There are bouncers at the door to check for IDs and to handle cover fees (if needed). There's live music every weekend from 8-11pm, as well as a DJ from 11pm - closing. The top floor of the restaurant hosts their famous Dueling Piano show where two entertainers perform and engage in playful competition. You request songs for them to play on a grand piano, so it's a fun and interactive experience. Reservations are required in advance. Check their website for the full schedule of their live music performances and show times. Since we got there early, we were able to keep our seats at the bar to watch the live music performance. The crowd was pretty diverse and a mix of all ages. Everyone was having a great time!

A Twisted Christmas Carol; Review Newport Playhouse Dec 1,…read more2025 Complicated. Not the play but the fact I and others, enjoying 3 days in Newport RI in a tour group, were basically a captive audience. "Dinner and a show" is how our itinerary put it. We ate a decent meal in the dining area and then all traipsed upstairs into this cozy little theatre. The stage was more than a proscenium because it projected out, bringing the actors into a more intimate relationship to the audience. (Just a note here: The seats were comfortable but the seat in front of you - seat pitch - was abysmally close. After 3/4 of an hour my knees began to hurt badly.) The play is a loose take on Dickens' Christmas Carol, with a 'Christmas past/Christmas present/Christmas future' structure. All action takes place in a small barbecue pub in west Texas. The proprietor (John Brennan), a grossly insensitive husband to his partner wife (Cass Caduto), is concerned for his business which is sliding downhill. Advice and antics from his live-in customer (Kol Daniel Cross) are scant help. The action unfolds with the help of a former employee (Rosa Nguyen) and the proprietor's former business partner (Matt Goldstein) who stole his barbecue sauce recipe years ago and has profited from it. Oh yes, that business partner is also the wife's former romantic partner, uh-oh. I could not find the author's name for this play. I suspect it was locally written by one or another of the actors or production staff. Maybe it was like a "Oh, we gotta put something together for our Christmas show" collaboration. The script produced a few jarring moments, as when the proprietor who has been in an accident and comatose in the hospital being visited by Christmas ghosts suddenly returns in full health. But the actors clearly enjoyed putting this on. The audience laughed and I think had fun watching although a few may not have had much experience with live performances. At the conclusion they started to leave and were surprised when the actors came out for a curtain-call bow. Ouch!

Nestled in the Wharf, it was a cute little place with both an up and downstairs. We reserved a spot for around 5:30 (in April) and it was pretty open. There weren't too customers yet, and it was nice and quiet. If you're looking for a ton of space for the seating area, I will say that there isn't too much room/it's pretty nice and cozy! At Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar, they've got a line of booths along the wall, a bar area right in the center and at the actual bar, a high top, another bar at one of the entrances, and a table that seats six. Now let's chat about the service. Our waitress was wonderful, patient, and was extremely helpful when asked questions and also gave SUCH wonderful suggestions. There were MANY fantastic choices on their menu and I was having a pretty difficult time narrowing down which one I really wanted, but with our waitress's help, I was able to choose pretty quickly (and they were AMAZING choices!) Now the food! The wait for the food honestly wasn't that long, and when we got it, we ABSOLUTELY CHOWED... -The Crispy Chicken Bites were AMAZING! I ended up upgrading to the Buffalo Style, and it DID NOT disappoint at all! The Bleu Cheese crumbles were just the perfect amount, and the Buffalo sauce was JUST enough to still enjoy the crispiness of the chicken. I DID ask for ranch on the side, and that just was *chef's kiss*! -I've never had fried pickles before, but I certainly have never seen a restaurant do it with whole pickles. Though it was my first time trying fried pickles, it tasted great! I wouldn't say it's anything special, but it's a great, and lighter on the fried side, appetizer! -I was having a hard time choosing what entree to enjoy, but I'M SOOOO glad that I went with the Smoked Brisket Chopped Cheese! I'm not a big brisket girl, but I will say that this was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! At first when it came out on the bun, I was a little skeptical of how it would taste, but it definitely didn't disappoint! The brisket was cooked SO well with the perfect amount of seasoning, and it all just melted so perfectly together as I was eating it. And the tater tots were SO AMAZING (though on the saltier side) and SO perfectly crispy. I've only got great things to say about Wharf Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar & I WILL be back here/will suggest it to my friends visiting Newport one day!

Well, that was all we needed to head inside. The store is gorgeous with framed canvases, unframed canvases, and hundreds of frames everywhere. The store has a huge inventory, but it was super-neatly organized and felt uncluttered. We saw art styles of every description - landscapes, seascapes, abstracts, realistic and stylized human and animal portraits, a very deep variety of colors, artistic approaches and sizes. We had recently remodeled a bathroom and wanted a piece of artwork to hang there. We both agreed on a 12"x16" oil painting of a gray seascape with a lighthouse, beach/ocean scenery, moored boats and a full moon. The color themes perfectly complemented our wall color, and what's even better is that we could choose whatever frame we wanted. We went with a grayish/white distressed frame that reminded us of driftwood. Man -- it was perfect. The store will be closing soon because the owner is retiring, so there are some very sweet sales going on right now. For the oil painting and frame, we paid $84.53 and had the pleasure of working with Gallery manager Lisa Amado to transact the purchase.
