Honestly, this is my new spot. We frequent Iron Age, but decided to give firepan a try this time. All the protein was really good quality. The steak was amazing. We did try one of the sushi rolls. A spur of the moment decision to stop for dinner as we passed this restaurant which was across the large Wayne Ave. Garage where we had parked. The delicious smells hit directly into our faces as the front door was opened. This looks like a popular neighborhood establishment. We were greeted and seated immediately on a Wed. evening. The setting is a bit dark with neon lights and table booths with their BBQ grills arranged around the restaurant. It did feel a bit tight for my legs due to the way the BBQ grill was set into the table. Service was great. The person attending to us helped explain the menu, how to order and decide on which proteins to be brought out. He would occasionally pop over and help grill our meats when we became too busy talking instead of cooking our meals. We ordered the All You Can Eat Option A and you are given 1 1/2 hr. to eat, don't know how strict they would be with that. Unless you are truly hungry, I would order an à la carte dinner instead of the all you can eat option. I particularly enjoyed the thick cut pork belly, steamed egg and spicy tofu stew. There were a few small portions of Banchan to go with our meal and you would need to order additional side dishes of noodles or rice dishes separately from the all you can eat menu choices. So glad they gave refills of the radish! Good refreshing banchan to combat the greasiness of the meat. The staff kept coming over to our table even though we chose to grill ourselves, so that wasn't ideal, but at least the staff is attentive and makes sure that their patrons don't burn down the restaurant (?). The cuts of meat aren't the best and I wish they had more side options compared to other options in the area. That being said, I only tried the brisket, pork belly, and steak. Out of the 3, I enjoyed the steak the most but I had to take my time pulling off some of the fattier bits. Overall a great experience! My girlfriend and I wanted to try a new Korean bbq spot and chose this one based on reviews. They have an all you can eat for $30 per person. The quality of the meats for $30 was better than some places that charge upwards of $40 per person. The only one that wasn't good was the spicy bulgogi. Idk what it is but it had a weird consistency and neither of us liked it. The thin pork belly is actually incredibly good and doesn't taste fatty. The steak options are delicious as well as the chicken options. The service was quick and friendly. There isn't much interaction since it's kbbq and you tend to cook it yourself. But we were seated immediately and food came out quick. The ambiance is very casual but has a sleek/modern feel inside. There is a fair amount of seating. The parking can be sparse on the weekend. In my opinion, this is the better location than the one in Woodbridge; I think the service here is way better from my experience over there. Same fare as usual, walk in, get seated, pick what AYCE option ( or not ) and dig in to what meat selections you choose. It was a bit busy when I went and honestly I didn't mind it at all. The food was what mattered to me because you definitely come here to eat right? I'm a fan of brisket, pork belly, bulgogi, the steamed egg, and the salad itself too. I could be content with just eating that and I'd still be full. It's best to come here with a group but it's still a good time with a friend or a date. Easier to split the bill with too. The side dishes: the side dishes could've been better, the kimchi was not fermented enough (a little too fresh). The fish cake was OK not the greatest, but decent. Very busy location & a tight squeeze. Bathrooms could also use some cleaning. However, service was good for how busy it was. They'll leave you with a pitcher of water on your table so it's convenient. If you get soda, just know that they serve you the can with a straw rather than pour it into a cup. Food was good! There are tiers for pricing, like if you want to add on sushi, it'll be an extra $3-$5, if you want the premium meats, a little bit more. I don't think the sushi add-on is worth it though for the options... it's not your typical sushi that you would get in a Japanese restaurant. However, the premium meat add-on was good in my opinion. We loved the beef belly & ribeye. The sauces they serve are different but there's a variety. I wish their steamed egg soup wasn't sold out when we were there. I felt like we didn't get the full quality of the price we paid because some things weren't on the menu that night. I came here on a Friday night a while back, because I never tried Korean Barbecue before and I always like trying new things and new places whenever I can. I came in by myself without a reservation slightly after 7pm and by the time I was seated, it was almost 9pm. So I waited a little over an hour and a half, and it was partly worth it in my opinion. I purchased the Option A of the all you can eat buffet (Option B includes seafood), and it was a reasonable price in my personal opinion. I had 4 servings of meat in total (Firepan Steak, Thick Pork Belly, Spicy Chicken, and Brisket), and the meat did taste very good, but it was too fatty & greasy in my opinion, and it gave me a stomach ache. I also ordered a Korean beer, Terra, and the price was much too high in my opinion for a beer that was not much larger than a standard-sized beer, and it was not very special in my opinion either. It was still a very nice beer, though. I personally felt a bit unhappy about the price. The price of the all you can eat buffet was reasonable, but the price of my one beer was more than 1/3 the price of the all you can eat buffet. On the up-side, the wait staff was very fast and friendly, as well as attentive. The food came with some little complimentary side-dishes as well, including rice. If I come back in the future, I will probably come back just for the all you can eat buffet without getting drinks, and I will make sure to come back during the slower business hours. Unlike other Korean BBQs I've been to, there's no buffet for sides, just a couple on the table, but our server was great to keep checking on us instead of slowing down on getting more refills. We tried the bulgogi, pork belly, soy chicken thigh, and brisket. They were all great! Just requires a little patience to let it cook, but it's worth it and very filling. I came here for the Korean barbecue, initially I came and got only two orders of meat(bulgogi and thin pork belly). But I ended up still being hungry after that. The server talk to the manager and allowed me to switch to the all you could eat option where I got the spicy bulgogi and fire pan steak. The meat was a really good! Service was also really nice and fast, they offered to cook the food for you, however, I declined in order to do it myself. For $31 you get a great selection of meats to choose from and you have 90 minutes to grill to your hearts content. I was very happy with this meal and would definitely come back if I'm in the area. Being Korean from NOVA, I've always been told that the best KBBQ is in Annandale, but Firepan may have permanently changed my mind about that. I made a reservation for nine people for 7:30pm on a Sunday about three days in advance, but you can usually make reservations through Yelp for smaller parties within a day or two of planning to eat there (I'd highly recommend doing this: it can get pretty crowded if you try to get a walk-in). Located in the ever-popular Eden Center and surrounded by a plethora of Asian markets and restaurants, it's telling that this restaurant has lasted despite having so much nearby competition! The restaurant itself looks small from the outside, but is fairly spacious inside, with high ceilings and reverberating music pounding from the speakers, accompanied by large TV screens playing both K-pop and American hit music videos. Since we had a reservation, we were seated almost immediately by a friendly hostess, who led us to our expansive table with two clean burners. We were first served a generous amount of banchan - everything was good, with a lightly dressed, refreshing salad, slightly sweet cubed pickled radish with jalapeños, julienned spicy pickled radish, and pungent, crunchy kimchi. Their pickled radish wraps are also especially good served with the succulent meat! My party opted for the AYCE Option A ($29.99/person), which comes with a wide variety of meats, but doesn't have all of the premium options that come with Option B ($34.99, and comes with some more beef/seafood options) - we found that the variety was plenty for us! They brought out a tray of seasonings and sauces for each of us to sample: a savory soy-garlic sauce (great for), ssamjang (a rich, spicy soybean paste), orange chili sauce (I found this a bit too sweet for my liking), salt and pepper, and gochujang (a red chili paste). Each sauce pairs well with a different cut of meat (I like to go sweet/spicy for the leaner meats, and more savory/spicy with the fattier ones). Additionally, you can also ask for Doenjang-Jjigae (spicy soybean soup), Soondubu-Jjigae (spicy soft tofu soup), and Gyeran-Jjim (Korean steamed egg with dashi) on the side to accompany your meats, as well as unlimited rice. I particularly enjoyed the Soondubu-Jjigae, which was soul-warming and had perfectly soft tofu and al-dente vegetables, and the rest of my table loved eating the steamed egg with rice and soy sauce, but I would be careful not to fill up on these sides! We first started off with the Chadol-Baegi, which is thinly sliced brisket. This is a true test of how good a KBBQ spot is, since this isn't the most flavorful/fatty cut of meat, so you can really assess the quality of the beef. The meat was well-marbled with a good flavor, and paired really well with the gochujang. Then, we moved onto the Firepan Steak, which is a thicker cut of meat marinated in the classic Korean galbi marinade, which is a sweet soy-based sauce with a touch of garlic. This was fatty and delicious, and tasted like LA-galbi (except it wasn't on the bone), and we loved it paired with the tart acidity of the radish wraps. Once we'd had our fill of beef, we tried the Spicy Pork Chop: this was absolutely delicious, and definitely an underrated cut of meat at Firepan. It was tender and juicy, with the perfect combination of sweetness and spice in the marinade. At that point, we saw another table order a large plate of lettuce to make ssam (traditional Korean lettuce wraps), and we did the same: the pork paired with the fresh, crunchy lettuce was out of this world! Lastly, as is customary with KBBQ, we cooked the fattiest cut of meat: pork belly/samgyupsal. We sampled both the Unmarinated Pork Belly and the Spicy Pork Belly, the first being savory and umami when paired with sauces, and the latter packing a good kick while still letting the richness of the pork belly shine through. Again, these were both insane paired with the lettuce wraps and a good portion of ssamjang/gochujang to cut the fattiness. Since we had three teenage boys in our group, they were ravenous, and when they saw an advertisement touting a promotion where leaving a review merited a free Corn Cheese for the table, they immediately jumped on this deal, writing a quick Google review and showing our server. Within five minutes, a steaming dish of the famous Korean "drunk food" came out. Being lactose intolerant, I couldn't sample this, but my friends described it as "life changing." Overall, Firepan was an amazing experience, with friendly (though not always efficient - we had to ask multiple times to get our grill pan changed) service, delicious food, and a menu with a wide variety at a great value! I personally liked this better than Kogiya, and it's closer to DC, so I guess I've found my new go-to spot for KBBQ in the DMV! read more
