I just love this place. I'm from out of town and only come here once a year but when I do, I make sure I'm having dinner at fireside. It's a nice quaint restaurant finally decorated. The staff is always friendly and professional, and the food arrives in a timely manner. This time I ordered the prime rib, which was a huge portion that would probably make at least two meals. If not, three it comes with salad and a side rolls and they're delicious crouton basket, which are out of this world and that was only $51. The prime rib was very tasty as was the potato casserole I ordered as a side did I mention how great the croutons were? They are amazing. Definitely would recommend fireside for your dining. It's only open on Friday and Saturday so it gives you something to think about during the week. read more

We have always enjoyed the staff and continue to... but The new owners have changed up some things that weren't broken, like purveyors. They were out of prime rib, so I ordered a regular rib eye, medium rare with a baked potato. The rib eye was about half the size when sliced to put on the grill and arrived rare. Not only rare, but gristle all around and the baked potato was absolutely cold... so cold, the butter wouldn't melt, and appeared as if it wasn't completely cooked. Took both the steak and potato back and the potato was slightly warmer but the steak was hardly edible due to the gristle and toughness. We fed the adorable dogs that live out there with the steak and potatoes. I hope changes happen to remedy these issues or I feel that the restaurant will close soon. read more

The service and temperature of the food. Owner was rude and spoke to me in a very disrespectful way when I told the wait staff that my filet was overdone. I actually told the waitress I felt my staff was overcooked for " medium". It was brown with a few streaks of pink. She took it to the kitchen asking that it be redone. She returned momentarily with a steak that looked just like the first overcooked steak. I told her I was not happy, but would take it. She took my plate and rushed off with it. Then the owner came to the table and showed me the steak with a flashlight stating it met current standards for a " medium" filet. He did this loudly and in clear view of other customers. I told them to please bring me the bill and a " to go" container. I paid the bill and told my husband I had been a good customer of Fireside for 35 plus years, but would not be going back. The owner insisted I had sent the steak back twice which I had not! The server had taken the steak back to the kitchen trying to stir up trouble for some unknown purpose. I will never understand some people and I want to know where the customer service of years gone by has gone. I would suggest you move on down the road when looking for a special restaurant for celebrating a birthday, anniversary or special date night. You are special, you are one of a kind, you are my Fireside by my little sea. You make my heart burst with flames like a organ of fire. You will forever be my one & only true love. My favorite place to have a good steak in the world. I promised I would never write a review, but after this last birthday dinner I changed my mind. Love like steak is rare & this one needs to be shared ;) Some places Just have a life of their own & this place has its own pulse. You would think it was crafted for a movie set. Like a fine wine cured, it's vintage refined & preserved. It has miraculously remained unscathed, even though the area is Tornado country. Out in the middle of NOWHERE you would never know this place existed. A cozy old lake house cottage turned into a steakhouse positioned on a gorgeous wooded lot across from lake Murray. It has a history, a very charming old world romantic vibe. When you walk into this place it's like you have walked back in time & everything takes on a new meaning. Time stands still, the surroundings calm you, large picturesque Windows surround you bringing the natural beauty outside right to your table & if you get a table by the entrance, you will also be near the cozy circular stone fireplace. Then, there is incredible food. Ran by a well seasoned Chef that used to work on a cruise ship, he knows how to make a perfect steak, execute a perfect French sauce & makes perfectly cooked vegetables. Every time. He's consistent. Very consistent. That combined with the stellar service & a good wine list that has Oregon Pinot Noir, who cares if it's in BFE? It's wicked phenomenal! The menu has remained the same for years. It's a small simple menu, however it's all executed to perfection. I have tired everything, however, I only order the salmon & filet. Hubby loves the prime rib. We both LOVE the complimentary little house salad with the sunflower seeds that comes in the wooden bowl with the custom made trio of house made dressings. Hope that never changes. We crave that little salad. YUMMY! :).... I'm grateful for the weekly specials, however, living nearby I really wish there were another fish or shellfish dish added to the menu as I adore seafood. While I'm on my wish list, it would be nice if there were a couple of Bordeaux's & a french Champagne added to the wine list as well ;) For my birthday dinner, the special was a 10 oz center cut filet with asparagus topped with a Béarnaise sauce on a bed of spinach (needs to be added to the menu) one of my favorite dishes. Like he knew it was my birthday or some cosmic alignment happened or something bc the whole dinner was superb. Made just the way I like it. That dinner, just like all the others b4 it, will forever be seared into my memory it was so perfect. The center cut filet was around 2 inches thick, a perfect med rare just like I ask. It had a perfect crust on both sides. Seasoned to perfection, oozing all around with the creamiest velvety Béarnaise sauce alongside asparagus that was cooked to perfection. The asparagus vibrant green in color, fully in tact, handled with the utmost care, still firm but just soft enough from being blanched exactly the right amount of time. Everything was hot, including the fresh rolls that magically appeared, with the fresh whipped butter. *drooling* Then, if that wasn't bomb enough, they just had to bring out a fireside delight & set it down in front of me. If it's your b-day at Fireside you automatically get the Fireside delight. Oh yeah. It's delectable. It's delicious. It's de-lovely. It's the Fireside delight & it's delightfully SINFUL. It comes in this giant glass banana split looking bowl, it's all made in house, comes out warm to the touch & the smell of it is incredible. Somewhere inside there is this big chunk of chocolate cake/brownie that is so light & airy but super chocolatey bc it's surrounded by all this warm gooey dark chocolate sauce. Not too sweet not too bitter. Then, there are chopped nuts & this big scoop of vanilla ice cream hiding under all this whip cream & more dark chocolate sauce with a cherry on top. Omg. I don't even like sweets or desert & this thing is mind blowing! Fireside, you have stolen my heart. I love you. I have always loved you. I love you Fireside delight! We had eaten here many years ago. I didn't realize it was still open. We took a road trip to try it again. The place hasn't been updated. Still looked pretty much the same. It's small, quaint and intimate. The service was good. Our waitress was very attentive with getting drinks or whatever else we needed. The salad is simple with the exception of sunflower seeds. Their dressings are homemade. We had blue cheese and ranch and both were good. Their homemade croutons are amazing! We had escargot for our appetizer, which is not offered at many places. It was tasty and we used the croutons to eat them with. I had the filet and the potato casserole. My steak was cooked to how I ordered and the potato casserole was really good. My husband had the Cajun prime rib and loaded baked potato. His prime rib was also cooked to order and tender. Not especially spicy as it was Cajun. I added the lobster tail and we shared it. It was cooked just right. Tender and juicy, not dry and rubbery like I've had at other places. We ordered the fried peaches with ice cream. It came with 2 dipping sauces. One was maybe raspberry and one was caramel. I would say it was average. Only because I compare it to the old Harry Bear's fried peaches that were delish! We will definitely go again. A little pricey but the closest thing to fine dining that I am aware of around Ardmore. They make a pretty good steak here. I'd rank it a little better than Outback but nowhere near Ruths Chris, although the Fireside charges about as much as RC. The wine selection is mediocre. The bearnaise sauce could have used a lot more tarragon- it's even possible that they got it out of a can or something. read more

They brought us a basket of croutons that had been drenched in butter and covered with Parmesan cheese. They were not edible. The staff was very friendly but I asked the waitress for a straw and she grabbed them out of a basket. Finally had enough of this place! From the day they opened until about 10 years ago I loved eating here. The quality started going south and to me, has now hit rock bottom. We had decided not to eat there anymore a couple years ago but decided to give them one more try, big mistake! First, my cocktail was not correct and had very little alcohol. To be fair, the baked artichoke hearts were delicious as was the salad and my baked potato, but it ends there. My bone in Rib-eye which was supposed to be medium rare was at least medium if not medium well. My wife had the regular rib-eye which was supposed to be medium but looked close to well. These steaks are definitely not USDA Prime but for the price you pay, they should be. The service was also slow and our waitress had no personality. The only way anyone could give these people an excellent rating is that they don't know good steaks. It is sad to post this because of how excellent they used to be but We are done. read more

This is kind of out by the lake, a little near the outskirts of Ardmore. Its a non-chain steak house thats not too bad considering where your at. The waitresses are all very friendly, and gave me a hard time about a 6oz filet I ordered that apparently even babies around here eat food bigger than 6oz! We loved the food... it' was never an issue. In fact, it's the reason we kept trying and going back to give second, third, etc. chances. We don't eat meat, but their salad, veggies and potatoes were awesome! But... aside from one or two good waitresses (Emily), the service there is bad... really, really bad. Nice people, but we never get what we ask for, We went for likely the last time tonight. 40+ minute wait for a baked potato, no drink refills, no lemons until the end of the meal though we asked twice... and they went up 40% on our meal cost without telling us until the bill came. Prices go up, we get it... but for a dinner of veggies only, the increase made it beyond anything reasonable. Plus, we were never told. Just poor professionalism all the way around. I love local business and would pay premium to have the Fireside experience, but it's always a frustrating evening :( We probably won't be going back. Food is great though! read more

In Ardmore, this is the place to take a date for a special evening. It is in what looks like an old country club style house out by Lake Murray with lots of large picture windows. The dining areas are cozy with low lighting. The menu is like a steak house with choices of steak, seafood, pork chops, etc. All of the salad dressings are made fresh in-house. But what gets me are the croutons. They are larger than normal croutons, very crispy yet buttery, seasoned, and brought out in a basket so there are enough for the table to enjoy. I can never stop eating them. The prime rib is always excellent, and my favorite entree. And my meal is not complete without the potato casserole. It is a great mix of creamy and cheesey. read more

Was looking forward to a wonderful birthday dinner with my husband. What we got was nothing less than horrific service from a waitress who had zero interest in her customers whatsoever. Husband ordered prime rib. We waited and waited for appetizer and salads. Finally got appetizer but no salads. As we were eating the waitress appears to tell us "oh sorry all out of prime rib" she then left a menu with us and scampered away only to return 15 or so minutes later (still no salads) to get our consolation order. At this point I asked for the check. She returned moments later to inform us that magically they had found one more slice of prime rib. By this point I am boiling and decide we are leaving for certain. Asked for the check again. $25.00 later for two drinks and a plate with 6 tiny mushrooms on it. No offer of apology no visit from the manager tobour table to try and do anything to fix the issues..we left. A phone call as we were leaving the parking lot proved to also be an epic disappointment. I was told by the "manager" that she wasnt aware of the problem and "itwas just one of those nights". Yeah onenof those nights that just happened to be my birthday. Long story ahort we ended up at the old trusty...Two Frogs Grill. Fantastic meal great service and a super price. Happy Birthday to me. Fireside will never see our business again and its now my personal mission to ensure everyone I know hears about it. read more
