Marietta Oklahoma is about halfway between our stops and the town appeared to be large enough to pick up supplies and have some dining choices. Not so interested in chains like Micky D or Sonic. Also not captivated with the gas station chicken place. We were truly fortunate to find Mama's Place, just a couple miles from the interstate on US-77. Mama's Place has been open since August 2020 and I bet they'll be going strong for a long time. Not very hungry, we decided to split a half pound burger with bacon and pepper jack cheese. Chips and a drink are included and we paid an upcharge for fries and I'm certainly glad we did. They grind their hamburger fresh and you can taste the difference. The patty was nicely crispy around the edges, garnished with lettuce, tomato and pickles. With the bacon and pepper jack, the burger was terrific. Other add-ons included grilled jalapeños, grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. Any of those sound great, but we were satisfied as is. I think we must have looked hungry, because the basket was super sized. I'm not exaggerating when I say they were as good as any fries I've ever had. These aren't previously frozen fries, rather these are from fresh spuds. The color, texture and flavor were perfect. The small dining room had 2 large picnic tables for inside dining in air conditioned comfort. You can also enjoy your meal outside, on one of several picnic tables, too. Going to stop by tomorrow and try the crispy chicken sandwich. Keeping an eye on this place. There's some expansion underway. An additional room is being built in the back and a big smoker is sitting back there. The owner said he'll be expanding the menu to include smoked meat. Sounds good to me.

There is a drive up window but we decided to go inside. Owner came out from kitchen and was so friendly. We got the large bacon cheese burger which came with chips & drink and added fries. Owner said he grinds his own meat and cuts his own fries. Boy could you tell the difference from a fast food place. Burger was large and so flavorful, fries were perfectly cooked and not overly salty. We were so glad we stopped and will stop again next time we're in the area.

We were welcomed and made to feel at home. Recommendations are always go with the special of the day. Three of the four of us did and enjoyed a delicious hot ham and cheese. The ham was a freshly cooked ham not lunch meat ham. I had the chicken salad. I choose it because the waitress said it was delicious and made with apricots. The chicken was fresh (not canned chicken) the flavor was good. I enjoy my chicken salad with celery, Nita and fruit and little mayo so it wasn't my favorite but it was good. Others sampled the soup which was bean. They loved it. Had a side given to us of a corn dish.. it was very tasty. Sour cream, salsa and cheese blended with corn. Nice surprise. After hearing the desserts, we decided we couldn't leave without trying some. The fresh strawberry cake was 'to die for'. My husband is diabetic and was happy to hear they are prepared to offer sugar free options. His cream cheese coconut pecan dessert lacked sugar but not flavor! Perfection. I had the chocolate fudge pretzel pie with a brown sugar meringue. Rrright!! You wouldn't have passed it up either. It was what dreams are made of. Chef Rodney is a hoot! He spent much time talking with us which was the cherry on the top of it all. The town is small, run down and vacant, the place smells of old town BUT 'The Taste" is the shining light and the smells of delicious food overpower all else. We tasted and saw that it was good, very good!!!
