I am writing this review as I have time in the hospital emergency room waiting for my partner to get care for his injury from falling in the hotel bathtub. I reviewed half of the Yelp reviews now again and there are a large amount of reviewers mentioning the safety concerns of the bathtub not having a safety bar and the ventilation fan is weak, and now I am realizing it is all true. I noticed the tub was slippery when I try to shower first and came back out to put the small nonslip bath mat that was provided under the sink. I have to make sure I only step within the non slip mat and get in and out of the tub slowly to prevent falling and I am young and able! I should have warned my partner when he goes into the shower, because his outcome was a disaster. From how he described the incident, he came out of the shower stepping off the nonslip mat and slipped and fell hitting the edge of the toilet. The bathroom vents are loud and you can hearing it running but I don't think it seems to work because the mirror was still steamy. The bathtub wall and tub of course stays wet longer as well I assumed. I just want to write this review for the future travelers to be careful, and I do hope the hotel management will consider installing safety bars after reading the reviews. I did read reviews before picking this hotel and saw the tub and vent reviews, but at the time I would never think this could happen to us. I have yet to think how to request an incident report with hotel staff yet as I am still waiting in the hospital for my partner to get stitches on his head. We checked in the hotel around 8pm and the incident happened around 10:30pm, so we don't have much time in the room to write about other amenities of the hotel. One thing stood out to us is when checking in the front desk mentioned twice she did not get to take her break time. What this place DOES Have going for it: (1) Great location -- across the street from south end of Moonstone Beach boardwalk. (2) A little less than half a mile from what seems to be the one and only restaurant along the beach. (3) most delicious quick breads as part of the free continental breakfast. (4) spotless "tiled" floors, it's some sort of fake wood, not sure, but in any case, it's not dirty disgusting carpet (5) cute fireplace--and for that reason it seems like a great place to stay during the winter FYI: refrigerator is hidden in cabinet below the TV! Things I wish I'd known before I booked: (1) no air conditioner, (2) $15/day extra if you want Wifi fast enough to stream video or work on laptop with MS Office; (3) no full length mirror, (5) no true protein macro at "complimentary continental breakfast". Cambria in general is a small, quiet town with beautiful boardwalk along the beach. Cambria doesn't seem to have a great food scene. Nor does it have a legit grocery store. I had the most lovely stay at the Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach. It's steps away from the beach where you can also find a boardwalk trail that is perfect for morning walks. This is how we started our mornings during our stay and we would follow it with the complimentary tea and coffee in the guest lounge. I was impressed with their coffee setup, which included oat milk. There is a couch and a long table available if you want to hang around along with some board games for entertainment. We didn't get to take advantage of the pool while we were there, but it was a bit chilly for it anyway. The bed was very comfortable and had an additional throw blanket for some extra warmth. My body runs cool, so I appreciated this little detail. The bathroom was equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, along with other small toiletries like makeup remover wipes, cotton balls, and cotton swabs. We really enjoyed the fireplace in the room, it gave it a cozy/relaxing vibe. Our room had a patio with a partial ocean view. ProTip, the morning dew makes the cushions on the chairs very moist, so flip them over when you decide to sit outside to avoid getting your bottoms wet. One thing I didn't take advantage of was the beach basket offering. It's free for guests to check out and it includes blankets. They also have chairs you can check out if you want to enjoy some time at the beach. My kids and I were so excited to stay at Fireside Inn because we were visiting Hearst Castle for the first time. Unfortunately, our stay was a huge disappointment. First, the room described as having a "partial ocean view" was anything but. A more accurate description would be "full view of the parking lot and parked cars." That was very misleading. Another issue was the lack of staff. It seemed like there was only one employee working at a time. I called the front desk to request an extra blanket, but no one answered. I eventually walked to the office, where the receptionist told me she hadn't answered the phone because she had just returned from her break. That's not the level of service I expected. The lobby also closes at 11:00 p.m., so if you need anything after that, getting assistance is difficult. One of the biggest problems was the main hallway door leading to the guest rooms. The handle grinds loudly when you open it, and the door slams shut with a noise that echoes throughout the hallway. It was loud enough to be heard clearly inside our room and was very disruptive. I've included my own photos because the photos used by the Inn make the property look like a peaceful oasis, which was not our experience. I cannot give this establishment high enough praise. I first came to this Inn back in 1990 with my parents. They loved and frequented this hotel. As a now grown adult...I see why. It's a beautiful hotel, clean with a very warm, homey feel. It's been upgraded through the 30 plus years I've known it and such a great transformation. Check in was easy as well as check out. EXTREMELY helpful, friendly staff. Now about the room itself. The beds, super comfy. Rooms are super clean. If you can, get the room with a patio and ocean view, even partial. Great way to sit n have a morning coffee. Paid $300 per night for ocean view room for 40th anniversary to end up with blinds that do not work that must be held up with a clamp to see out, a bathroom with zero ventilation (smells linger) with a fan that sounds like a DC10 taking off, shower water pressure that drops as other units use water to make it feel like you're rinsing with water bottle, and to cap it off today on our anniversary (also Mother's Day) the alleged continental breakfast at 9 am was vacant of all food except a few apples and zero coffee. Asked office and was told coffee machine is broke. What a waste of money. Highly recommend avoiding this place. The bright spot was Mike the maintenance guy who was great, so read between the lines in that. Also the office staff were always pleasant and nice. read more

My only critique is that the heating was not working in our room, so it was chilly, but our friend's room did not have that issue. Fireside Inn is a really cute Inn that definitely gives quaint Hallmark vibes. It's directly across from Moonstone Beach with quick access to the little board walk path. Definitely recommend an ocean facing room with the patio as it's great for morning coffee and listening to the waves crash. The rooms were probably the nicest I've ever stayed in with chic decor. Coming in the winter? The room has a cozy fireplace. Coming in the summer? Prop your patio door open to get the ocean breeze and listen to the waves and birds. The pool area is really nice and offers cornhole - the pool is heated but there is not a hot tub (bummer). The pool house lounge offers a cozy place to hang out with board games, fireplace, and coffee in the AM (no breakfast or pastries - another bummer). The hotel is a short walk to a few eateries that include Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill, The Chest, a coffee shop, and the cow tipper (they also deliver to your room with a QR code). I loved staying here and would definitely stay here again! The only reason why I docked a star was because when I initially booked the room - I got the ocean facing king room but their website overbooked the room and I had to be down graded to a partial ocean view :( - they made up for it by placing a "Happy Birthday" sign above the fireplace which was really cute of them to do. Also, there is a little access path to your patio so you can go to the pool or beach easier - however a big suburban parked in front it blocking access to get out. read more

First time staying in Cambria and I chose this hotel hoping it was as nice as the photos and it was! I always look for high end and quality hotels when traveling and this was beautiful, spacious , clean and right across from the beach. We got into town an hour early and called to request an early check in and they let us do that without a problem, which I was grateful. They offer coffee in the morning, our room had a window which was nice to have fresh air. Beds were comfy, shower/bathroom area all new and upgraded and nice. Hallways were different and not like a traditional hotel, more apartment style- you enter from the parking area and then long enclosed hallway with long line of doors (rooms.) Not bad just different. We enjoyed our stay and recommend staying here especially if going to Hearst Castle it's only 10 mins away. read more

The place is small just lime the rest of the Moonstone Beach places but very nice. Clean, friendly staff, spacious, our room had a patio with chairs to view the boardwalk and ocean. One of four nights had a fairly clear sunset where everyone left what they were doing to go out on the boardwalk and take it in. Amazing! The room mid-week July was $375 night but worth it amd cheaper than many. Three restaurants on Moonstone Beach and Cambria is a 20min walk away. Reservations are not accepted at the restaurants so research how best to get a seat. Luigi's pizza, Sandys bakery/deli and the BBQ joint are all amazing. The Earth market has great selection and fantastic food made in the back of the store. Fireside does not have food of any kind but a click away is food delivered to your room from the restaurant at the top of the street. read more

We stayed at Fireside Inn from March 17-19, 2025, hoping for a peaceful oceanfront getaway after my husband completed six weeks of radiation and chemo for brain cancer. Cambria holds special meaning for us, and we were looking forward to rest and healing. Unfortunately, our experience was far from restful. While check-in was smooth and staff initially helpful, we woke the next morning to nonstop construction right outside our room (Room 301)--jackhammering into concrete that lasted all day. We couldn't use the room we paid for, and the alternate room offered was not oceanfront. The compensation? Just $50 for an entire day of disruption. What was most upsetting, though, was how dismissive and unsympathetic the staff was when we shared our concerns. No empathy, no genuine apology, no effort to make it right. I understand that construction happens, but guests should be notified in advance, and service should reflect care and professionalism--especially when someone is traveling under difficult health circumstances. We left more stressed than when we arrived. Disappointing and disheartening. We wrote to the manager when we returned to which we did not get any response or reply. read more

My cousin and family came to US for the first time so I wanted to show him our CA coast. We booked 2 rooms at Fireside and it didn't disappoint.. the rooms were modern looking and spacious. They were able to have our rooms connect with a shareable door. They have a swimming pool and lounge chairs to chill and chat. There was a heater but no AC unit. It was fine as it was a nice 70 degrees while the rest of CA was in the 90s-100. They offer coffee and tea in the morning to get your day started with a boost. Stayed here for the weekend for the first time. The Fireside Inn definitely has a great view IF you happen to get one of the rooms, I believe they are referred to as Superior rooms, with an ocean view. The little patio is nice, perfect for two but really no more than that. The room is decorated quite nicely, I appreciate the laminate wood like flooring as carpet in hotels is kind of gross. I just don't like carpeted rooms and obviously it's not as hygienic as a floor with tile or wood anyways. There is, however, a large, carpeted area under the bed that is kind of gross, I think they should have just kept the wood like flooring all throughout rather than the carpet that looks kind of dirty. The issues I encountered while we stayed, the reason for my two star rating, are as follows: 1.) there is a hallway that you take that is enclosed to get to your room, which is carpeted. It's fine if they kept it up, but for a hotel like this I'm quite surprised by how dirty it is. Stains everywhere and it smelled like B.O! The smell was so bad that every time we'd walk through I'd have to hold my breath until I got outside. 2.) the weird step coming into your room. It's such a tripping hazard, I almost went flying into the room the first time I came in. It's the threshold , but it's raised and not level with the hallway. I'm surprised, that even building code allowed this for a hotel. I noticed that many of the rooms aren't level and even the thresholds are raised on one end but not the other. 3.) I like some of the other places we stay that offer amenities like, coffee or tea, and maybe a breakfast basket in the morning. For the price point here, you think they'd offer something. There are many other really nice hotels on Moonstone that DO either offer breakfast in the morning or a nice breakfast basket and coffee and tea throughout the day. 4.) the walls are THIN, so you may be bothered if you are a light sleeper. read more

Used to be great until they remodeled. Scone heater on the wall doesn't heat the room nor does the fireplace. Flushed toiled sounds at all hours in at least some rooms (104). Cold air coming in due to about a one inch gap between the door and floor. I have to say this was maybe 3 years ago though. That's when we decided to go elsewhere. read more

Great location. However, no table to eat on or play cards, etc. coffee machine electric cord doesn't reach an outlet, so you have to move the machine into the bathroom. Do not recommend. Didn't have our reservation after booking our reservation over the phone with an employee. Our 4 day vacay was turned into 2 days. Front desk locked up and no coffee until after 7:30 am and no ice on location. No water filling stations, however you can fill your water using sink in room. Customer service is very poor. If you like to feel like you are taken care of when on vacay don't stay here. Below average service. Rooms are nice. Pool okay. No jacuzzi. 5/10 rating. Stayed here a few weeks back for a birthday getaway for wifey. Nice little inn good nice rooms. Cute little guest area where you can sit watch tv and grab some coffee in the morning. There is no breakfast or anything like that. Nice little pool if you choose to swim and was heated as well. Was like 2nd to last inn on the Main Street across the ocean which was nice. Right across the street from the ocean/beach. Walking distance to some nice restaurants and nice walking trail along the beach. Quick little drive to Main Street which has the west and east village with great little shops and restaurants. Will and would stay here again as Cambria has become our little getaway spot when we want to unwind and relax for a few days. read more

Staff member Sierra was unprofessional at best. Had an issue with our reservation, only option was to leave despite having paid for the 2-night room. Kept asking to speak with a manager and was ultimately told after repeated requests, "he said he doesn't want to speak to you". I felt like this had turned into some kind of playground argument. We only wanted help finding any way to correct the situation. Manager finally was contacted and Sierra was instructed to cancel the original rooms and charge the rooms to us again at a higher rate. We agreed, didn't have many other choices at that point. Felt the manager should have left some kind of message with us or a staff member letting us know when he'd be contacting us. We reached back out to him ourselves and finally caught him on the phone close to 3 full days after the incident to discuss. It felt as if our spoken frustrations were an inconvenience and he had no desire to hear what we had experienced at this hotel. We encountered some very kind and professional staff members but unfortunately we have no desire to return. We have stayed at many other "Pacifica Hotels" and the experiences have been across the board fantastic until now. read more

Wonderful relaxing inn in Cambria with friendly staff and cozy accommodations. We had 4 in a double room and there was plenty of room. Restaurant within walking distance, great beach and it is a great way to start or end your trip to Big Sur. Close to Paso Robles for wine too. Overall we really enjoyed it. Not a whole lot to offer for snacks and they only serve Coffee in the morning. Hot Chocolate for the kids would be a nice add on. read more

Well sadly there aren't many other options in Cambria that seem much better so that's a situation that you need to accept. The good: location, a warm pool, clean and the beds were nice. The Bad: NO ventilation so for us with a patio we had to leave the door open all night...kinda creepy but there was no choice. No AC which at first I thought wouldn't be a big deal, but the rooms are stuffy and AC would have helped. We did find a fan which we ran the entire time. The room has been 'perfumed' to cover musty smell and it was overwhelming for us. The 'Superior room with partial ocean view" was a let down. Our view was over cars, in the parking lot and a peak of the ocean when outside on the small patio! Not what I expected. And as others have mentioned, the walls are thin but we were able to sleep fine. read more

Overall, had a nice stay, but...there are some things you need to know if you decide to stay here: GOOD: - Location, location, location. Fireside Inn is located on Moonstone Beach Drive, which is a quaint little street with multiple mom and pop type motels/inns appx 50 steps from one of the entrances to the boardwalk, which is essentially a wooden walking path that runs about a mile along a cliff, overlooking the ocean, with cutouts for taking pictures or romantic moments. - The rooms have been completely renovated, are plenty spacious and well appointed, including a fireplace. - The TV is large enough to see from the bed (appx 12 ft) without having to squint. - Because of COVID restrictions, they only allow a minimal number of people to be at the pool/spa at a time...makes for a less hectic experience. I don't know how they enforce the signing-in at the front desk to reserve your time as you only have to swipe your room's key card to gain access...honors system? - This is a one-story property, so you won't have anyone above you stomping on the floors. - The lamps on the nightstands and desk have one 110v outlet and one USB outlet. The sticker says the USB port is a 2A. I didn't get a chance to test the amperage, but it felt more like a 1A charge. - You can fill out an order form the night before and hang it on the outside of your room's door, where you can have breakfast delivered the morning (7am-7:30am or 8:30am-9:30am). BAD: - There is NO air conditioning at all. We stayed in the middle of March, so we wouldn't have needed an A/C anyway. But we have been in Cambria in the summer months and it can get pretty humid in the room. The only relief is a floor fan, which doesn't look like much help. - While a gas fireplace is a nice touch, it's mostly for decorative purposes (you flip a light switch to turn it on/off) and provides little to no heat, even after several hours. The same can be said for the wall heater at the other end of the room. While the wall heater gets warm, you can't feel the heat radiating past a few inches as the heater does not have a fan to blow the heat. We stayed in the middle of March and the overnight low is about 50 degrees F. Tip: When we told the front desk the room was still cold, they provided us with a small space heater. They did warn not to put the setting above half-way as it might blow a fuse to either the room or the building. Pro-tip: Ask the front desk for a couple extra blankets instead. - Because the rooms were recently remodeled in the last 6-12 months, the room we were in had a strong smell of fresh paint. We would have slept with a window open, but since this is a one-story property and not a multi-story building, safety first! - While the bed frames appear to be new, they creek like hell...and no, not from hanky-panky. Just literally sitting down on the bed to watch TV or tossing and turning at night, it creaks more often than a bed frame should. - While the front office employees are friendly, there appears to only be one employee working (on a Thursday night) during our stay. I called the front office to inquire about something and got no answer. So I went to the office and no one was there for several minutes. - For these rooms being recently remodeled, the floors are dirty/dusty. A combination of vinyl/hardwood plank and carpet, my wife put on a fresh pair of white socks and after walking around the room for a few hours, noticed the socks were dirty. The floors look clean, but white socks don't lie. UGLY: - While the rooms are spacious and absolutely beautiful, the one thing I could not do was sleep, because I could hear every word from the people in the room next to us (which is why I'm writing this review in the middle of the night). This for me is an absolute deal breaker, no matter how nice the rooms are. And I don't believe the people were being obnoxious either (it was an older retired couple, according to the front office), but the walls between the rooms are super thin. Tip: Try falling asleep listening to music/headphones. Pro-tip: Turn on the fan to the bathroom to drown out some of the conversation next door. ON A SIDE-NOTE: We stayed in room 222, which is in the center building at the end of a hall. Every time we stepped out of our room, it felt like we were on the set of The Shining, expecting to see The Grady Twins pop out at any moment (see pic). read more

I booked a room months in advance and requested a handicap room (as had an ankle replacement) and requested a beach front room. I called a few days before to confirm and they informed me that they had no rooms that were handicapped accessible that had a beach front view. They said you didn't talk to a person on the property. How was I to know that? I tried to find another beach front place with no luck. I called them back and they said they could put a plastic bench in the shower. I asked if one of the rooms that was handicapped with walk in showers wasn't booked could shower there? They said we would have to charge you for the room. Not concerned at all about their mistake or the experience of their guests. They also said on the phone there is a step up to beach front rooms. Not sure how they don't make this clear that no beach front rooms are accessible to the handicapped. They boast handicap on their site So I decided to go anyways as my husband's birthday is this weekend and I didn't want to disappoint him. Our first trip post-Covid. Upon arrival checking in we were asked if we wanted maid service and needed to let them by 11pm prior night. That way they could make sure to have enough people to clean rooms. Caught me off guard as wasn't sure who they were getting if they didn't already commit to them as part of the room rate. So we most likely will just ask for clean towels. They don't offer any breakfast (as other places do). You can order off an app and breakfast options are offered. It says you must use the app and QR code. No other options. I imagine most of the people staying here don't know how to do this. They offer free Wi-Fi but not a secure network. Not sure how hard it is to put a password on it and give it to guests. So that's not an option to stream any movies or use Wi-Fi. Google Wi-Fi threat with unsecured networks and it will give you nightmares. So last but not least the TV. They don't have any movies to watch but they do have cable with HBO. There was a button on the TV that said search free movies so we did. They are pulling them from the basic cable so many are older. My husband and I went through them and narrowed a few down we may watch. Upon clicking on them an error code comes up saying try again later. I called the front desk and they said that feature doesn't work. They have basic cable and HBO. They have no option to sign in to your own streaming accounts. I like to do a little art and noticed no table other than desk so packed one. It may rain and can't sit outside in rain so something to consider if plan on ordering in with iffy weather. The screen to go outside locks but has been slit where it hard to notice where someone can put their finger in to undo latch to get in if needed to. The sliding glass door is very sticky and I was unable to open it more than a foot. My husband could but it took a bit of strength. Note: There is not a safe in the room. The room is clean and has a gas fireplace we have not tried. The room has a fridge and coffee maker in the room. The bed is on a platform and is comfortable but people who may have issue with a higher bed due to mobility issues should ask. The parking is right by rooms access. Walking across the parking lot no longer area I noticed glass like something was shattered I noticed it walking across the lot and told my husband to check his shoes to make sure he didn't bring it in as we walk barefooted in the room. The view is pretty and we look forward to seeing the sites for a few days. Bit at $500 a night we could have done way better. The lady at the front desk was nice but sure she gets lots of people complaining. We have a 72 hour cancellation policy so we just chalk it up to lesson learned. read more

Last year June 2021.. we celebrated fathers here and it was a pleasant experience. Family-friendly, clean, and has a beautiful view outside the Inn. The ocean is just across the street. read more

Very underwhelming. Price point would lead one to believe this was a top notch place. The room was decent and the fireplace was a nice touch. The front desk person was pleasant. The coffee in the room was single serve with a minimal quantity of basic cream and sugar and no coffee available in lobby. The body wash in the shower was empty. The patio is not worth the extra money. The most shocking thing was the solicitation that for a mere $84 we could extend our stay by checking in 3 hours early or out 3 hours late. Really did not see the draw to this place. The second night we moved to a hotel a block south for significantly less money and more amenities. read more

This is our go to place while in Cambria. The staff is friendly and you can't beat a free breakfast. The rooms are just right. They are nice and clean and the inn is located just steps away from the beach. The family enjoys those morning walks and exploring the tide pools for ocean life. The pool is heated! The Jacuzzi is nice for those sore muscles from walking and exploring all day. read more

Beautiful clean property, low water pressure prevented us from showering. Can't flush the toilet use the shower or even the sink, just trickles. Trying to sleep was impossible with loud water pipe noises. Told the front desk they "fixed the shower" worked ok until other guests were using the water too. Highly disappointed, the front desk was not helpful or friendly in trying to help in any way. So many other options to stay at, would not recommend. read more

I was arriving late and called the property to ensure someone would be at the front desk when I arrived. I was able to get a human at the property on the phone quickly. I appreciate this!! They confirmed someone would be there. The property is right off of the 101 and just across a small street from the beach and beach/nature trails. Cambria is gorgeous. 10/10 recommend. The day after my arrival I took the short drive to Hearst Castle for a tour, spectacular! The hotel itself was clean and the rooms had everything you need to be comfortable. Parking was easy. Our room had a fireplace, places to sit, and more room than a typical hotel room. Some rooms had small patios which have to be an amazing place to sit and breathe in the fresh air in Cambria. The heater in my room was not working and within minutes of my call to the front desk I had a space heater in my room. I rarely get such expedient service at a hotel. Overall, I had a great stay and can't wait to return to both the beautiful small town of Cambria as well as the Fireside Inn! read more
