    The tiny patio

My kids and I were so excited to stay at Fireside Inn because we were visiting Hearst Castle for the first time. Unfortunately, our stay was a huge disappointment. First, the room described as having a "partial ocean view" was anything but. A more accurate description would be "full view of the parking lot and parked cars." That was very misleading. Another issue was the lack of staff. It seemed like there was only one employee working at a time. I called the front desk to request an extra blanket, but no one answered. I eventually walked to the office, where the receptionist told me she hadn't answered the phone because she had just returned from her break. That's not the level of service I expected. The lobby also closes at 11:00 p.m., so if you need anything after that, getting assistance is difficult. One of the biggest problems was the main hallway door leading to the guest rooms. The handle grinds loudly when you open it, and the door slams shut with a noise that echoes throughout the hallway. It was loud enough to be heard clearly inside our room and was very disruptive. I've included my own photos because the photos used by the Inn make the property look like a peaceful oasis, which was not our experience. I only wish I had known these things before spending so much money and valuable vacation time at Fireside Inn. I wouldn't stay here again.

Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach - Cozy stay, but bring earplugs and your own trash can. (Read further for details.) - LOL The location? Beautiful. The room? Comfortable. The experience? A mixed bag. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=lIEVfAZ6pVEHXngmkWzAJA We were given a room right next to the maintenance room - which turned out to be an accidental alarm clock. Starting early in the morning, we were treated to a chorus of loud voices, doors opening and slamming, and all the charm of a backstage pass to hotel operations. Not exactly the peaceful Moonstone Beach vibe we had in mind. When you're on vacation, sleeping in is a wonderful thing... 'That is if you can actually sleep in that is. Bathroom - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=34gJb4WcRzJnpGsKnybjsw One thing we actually laughed about but also genuinely puzzled over was the tiny wastebasket in our hotel room. After tossing in one large soda cup from the garbage receptacle was completely full. Game over. It was like the hotel had made a conscious design choice to discourage trash by making it impossible to discard any. There was a matching recycling bin (equal in size, equally pointless), but the message felt oddly aspirational: as if they assumed we were all Marie Kondo-ing our lives while on vacation. Helpful hint: even people seeking joy still need somewhere to put their napkins and takeout containers. Smallest trash can ever - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=FwDfpI4m_kPcPfjZL0gBRQ Side note: Who is Marie Kondo you might be asking? Answer: Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant, author, and television personality best known for her unique approach to decluttering and tidying called the KonMari Method. She gained international fame with her 2011 book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, which became a bestseller and was translated into dozens of languages. Apologies, I digress. Small Fiji water ($5) - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=lER91VqehWjeyUbqCwFJWg All that said, the location is undeniably lovely and you're steps from the beach. If you can score a quieter room and manage your trash like it's a game of Tetris, it's a decent stay. Just ask to be far, far away from the maintenance HQ. - Big Aloha! I cannot give this establishment high enough praise. I first came to this Inn back in 1990 with my parents. They loved and frequented this hotel. As a now grown adult...I see why. It's a beautiful hotel, clean with a very warm, homey feel. It's been upgraded through the 30 plus years I've known it and such a great transformation. Check in was easy as well as check out. EXTREMELY helpful, friendly staff. Now about the room itself. The beds, super comfy. Rooms are super clean. If you can, get the room with a patio and ocean view, even partial. Great way to sit n have a morning coffee. The views, the Inn, the area....exquisite. if you ever need a place to go to unplug, unwind and just breathe and be in the moment of the beauty around you...come to Cambria and stay at Fireside Inn. I already booked my return in a few weeks for my 51st bday lol it's that great.

Amazing stay at the Fireside Inn from check in and check out. Bed was super comfy, and the room was really clean! Front desk staff were all nice and great customer service

Location, location, location!! This place is perfectly situated right across from the beach! Love looking at this sunset. Our room was clean and spacious, nice bathroom amenities. My only critique is that the heating was not working in our room, so it was chilly, but our friend's room did not have that issue. We did ask the staff about it, but I guess the heaters and old and there's not much they can do. Other than that, this hotel was perfect. Staff are very nice and there's ample free parking.

Clean, and comfortable! The fireplace worked great! The staff were all kind and welcoming. My only issues was the TV took some figuring out on how to use, but aren't all hotels that way anymore? And I never quite understood how to turn on the heating and AC - but it was chilly, and the fireplace did the job.

Fireside Inn is a really cute Inn that definitely gives quaint Hallmark vibes. It's directly across from Moonstone Beach with quick access to the little board walk path. Definitely recommend an ocean facing room with the patio as it's great for morning coffee and listening to the waves crash. The rooms were probably the nicest I've ever stayed in with chic decor. Coming in the winter? The room has a cozy fireplace. Coming in the summer? Prop your patio door open to get the ocean breeze and listen to the waves and birds. The pool area is really nice and offers cornhole - the pool is heated but there is not a hot tub (bummer). The pool house lounge offers a cozy place to hang out with board games, fireplace, and coffee in the AM (no breakfast or pastries - another bummer). The hotel is a short walk to a few eateries that include Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill, The Chest, a coffee shop, and the cow tipper (they also deliver to your room with a QR code). I loved staying here and would definitely stay here again! The only reason why I docked a star was because when I initially booked the room - I got the ocean facing king room but their website overbooked the room and I had to be down graded to a partial ocean view :( - they made up for it by placing a "Happy Birthday" sign above the fireplace which was really cute of them to do. Also, there is a little access path to your patio so you can go to the pool or beach easier - however a big suburban parked in front it blocking access to get out.

The room was very spacious and the gas fireplace created a cozy atmosphere for a relaxing stay. We could see and hear the ocean just across the roadway. Small luxuries like extra fluffy towels, Starbucks coffee in the rooms and heavenly bed pillows helped us feel like we were in a 5-star hotel! And there is a great local grocery store just 5 minutes away. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back!

First time staying in Cambria and I chose this hotel hoping it was as nice as the photos and it was! I always look for high end and quality hotels when traveling and this was beautiful, spacious , clean and right across from the beach. We got into town an hour early and called to request an early check in and they let us do that without a problem, which I was grateful. They offer coffee in the morning, our room had a window which was nice to have fresh air. Beds were comfy, shower/bathroom area all new and upgraded and nice. Hallways were different and not like a traditional hotel, more apartment style- you enter from the parking area and then long enclosed hallway with long line of doors (rooms.) Not bad just different. We enjoyed our stay and recommend staying here especially if going to Hearst Castle it's only 10 mins away.

The place is small just lime the rest of the Moonstone Beach places but very nice. Clean, friendly staff, spacious, our room had a patio with chairs to view the boardwalk and ocean. One of four nights had a fairly clear sunset where everyone left what they were doing to go out on the boardwalk and take it in. Amazing! The room mid-week July was $375 night but worth it amd cheaper than many. Three restaurants on Moonstone Beach and Cambria is a 20min walk away. Reservations are not accepted at the restaurants so research how best to get a seat. Luigi's pizza, Sandys bakery/deli and the BBQ joint are all amazing. The Earth market has great selection and fantastic food made in the back of the store. Fireside does not have food of any kind but a click away is food delivered to your room from the restaurant at the top of the street.

We stayed at Fireside Inn from March 17-19, 2025, hoping for a peaceful oceanfront getaway after my husband completed six weeks of radiation and chemo for brain cancer. Cambria holds special meaning for us, and we were looking forward to rest and healing. Unfortunately, our experience was far from restful. While check-in was smooth and staff initially helpful, we woke the next morning to nonstop construction right outside our room (Room 301)--jackhammering into concrete that lasted all day. We couldn't use the room we paid for, and the alternate room offered was not oceanfront. The compensation? Just $50 for an entire day of disruption. What was most upsetting, though, was how dismissive and unsympathetic the staff was when we shared our concerns. No empathy, no genuine apology, no effort to make it right. I understand that construction happens, but guests should be notified in advance, and service should reflect care and professionalism--especially when someone is traveling under difficult health circumstances. We left more stressed than when we arrived. Disappointing and disheartening. We wrote to the manager when we returned to which we did not get any response or reply.

It's always high anxiety when you pick a hotel from online reviews. We sprung for an oceanfront room. Although it was pricey for a spring overnight stay in Cambria, it lived up to the hype! It has that fancy small inn vibe with ocean views. The only thing missing would be robes & slippers. Literally across the small street from Moonstone Beach where you can stroll on the boardwalk or get your toes sandy or wet. Cambria is definitely a must for R&R and this inn satisfies it!

My cousin and family came to US for the first time so I wanted to show him our CA coast. We booked 2 rooms at Fireside and it didn't disappoint.. the rooms were modern looking and spacious. They were able to have our rooms connect with a shareable door. They have a swimming pool and lounge chairs to chill and chat. There was a heater but no AC unit. It was fine as it was a nice 70 degrees while the rest of CA was in the 90s-100. They offer coffee and tea in the morning to get your day started with a boost. Would definitely return to Fireside in the future.

Really enjoyed the complimentary wine with ocean view and one of my biggest reasons for booking it was due to they accept dogs, which says a lot about an establishment. That being said, there are areas for improvement. When I checked into my room, I noticed that the the dark blinds were stuck so I went to the office to see if they could help. The manager came to my room; tried to lower them and agreed they were stuck. She said she would ask the maintenance person to fix it. A day went by and nobody came by. I was awoken to a bright room early in the morning so my sleep was cut short. I went back the office and the same manager welcomed me with "yeah, what's up"? I highlighted that nobody came by to fix it and she seemed pretty indifferent but said she would request it again. Needless to say, nobody showed up to fix it during my whole stay so I was greeted with shortened sleep thanks to the bright room in the mornings. While I was checking out, I highlighted this to the new manager and she laughed it off, saying that's why she brings blindfolds when she travels. No discount offer or anything. Furthermore, their door key cards are the most sensitive I have ever encountered. I had to have them reprogrammed 3 times during my stay. Also, the owner apparently requested that they close the wine tasting early due to rain so, when I showed up to use my complimentary wine vouchers, I found it closed over an hour earlier than their posted closing time but the server did provide me with the complimentary wine since I was a guest but they were no longer offering food so no marinated olives and nuts to go with it. That being said, the Inn does have a great location; is a value and I love that it is dog-friendly but they do need to work on their customer service. Oh and some more Vegan options and recycling/compost bins would certainly help.

Our window faced the water, but it's not a direct walk-out beach property. Now for the positives, the staff (all of them) were amazing. The rooms are bungalow-style and very clean and spacious. The hotel is pet-friendly $100 fee, and check-in/check-out was easy. The check-in area feels cozy and homey, with couches, chairs, books, and games available. They offer beer, wine, adult beverages (Adult options for your coffee), plus a kitchen and outdoor fireplace sitting area. The hotel is directly across the street from the beach, about a 2-min walk to the water. The room was large and well-stocked with a mini fridge (fees may apply), huge comforters, bathrobes, slippers, a fan, fireplace, shower supplies such as body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, and a sitting chair. There are many additional amenities available for a fee in the room and in their lobby area. In the morning, they deliver a basket with pastries croissants, cinnamon rolls, coffee, orange juice, and champagne, a really nice touch. They also have bikes you can use and go bike riding, corn hole games, picnic benches, There's also an ice maker on-site. Parking spaces are small, so be cautious if you have a lifted truck or wide rims. The area itself is very nice. The hotels along the coastline are set up similarly, facing north and south, so most have somewhat obstructed or no ocean views or direct walk-on beach access. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, Hotel cost wasn't too bad but remember all the hotels in this area do not have walk out beach rooms. Area is very quiet, relaxing, and peaceful, and EVERYONE is pet friendly even with a pitbull breed. Our kids had a blast in the ocean and were able to play board games eat ice cream and enjoy the scenery. there are several benches along the walk path in case you need to sit down and relax. There is small community town about 15min tops. several restaurants and shopping. old town style, very homey. so, if you're looking for a disconnect type of vacation, no party scene, just want peaceful and relaxation, this is the place. I will attach pictures and I do apologize because these were at the end of the trip and not when we first arrived. so, excuse the beds. The hotel was very clean and have hardwood floors.

LOVE the Aesop products in the room!!! a few downside during my stay were: the few times i went to the front desk, the "out of office" sign was up each time. i wanted to rent a bike to bike around the town, no one was around to assist. i waited about 10-15m each time. they have a fire pit that was on the entire time. i heard they provide s'more kits, but we were not provided with any. there isnt really any pet relief area on site. also, all units do not have AC, only fans. i had no service while i was there. i literally was on SOS. i actually loved it. don't worry, there is wifi avail! i would def book white water again!

Bathroom had a huge mirror with fantastic lighting around the rim. Husband enjoyed the free fresh brewed coffee from the lobby on one of the outdoor benches. Just cross the street to an amazing walkway along the ocean cliff, with steps down to the beach. That evening we walked to a nice restaurant about 2 minutes down the road. Views there were equally beautiful. Would definitely stay there again!

He told me I cannot check in until 3 pm, and it was 2:45 pm. We left and came back. The next person at 4 pm on Saturday, July 4th, told us we could have our room cleaned and when we would like to schedule the room cleaning for Sunday. I told the person at 1 pm. When we came back after being away for the day, our place was not cleaned! I went to the front office and asked to have our place cleaned. The person at the desk, at the time 2:30 pm, told me we did not request the room cleaned because we were not on the hand written lined paper list. I told him that was not true as the person grabbed the paper when we checked in and wrote our room and time to be cleaned. The pool, not working and empty. The hot tub had too much chemicals and my skin itched like crazy. I stayed here many years ago and was always greeted with a friendly voice and granted early and late access even when I would pay. I will never stay here again. Maybe the people are not gay friendly... not sure. Bye, bye! Next....

I had reserved a junior suite for the large soaking tub as advertised on their website. We arrived at 8:30 pm after driving 3 hours after work to get there. We were given a handicapped accessible room that did not have the large soaking tub. When I went back to the front desk to ask for a different room I was told there were no other options, "I reserved a Junior Suite and I received a junior suite. If I didn't like it I could check out." Note: there was an option to reserve the handicap accessible suite or a regular suite on the website. I had reserved the regular suite. There was no apology, no attempt to rectify the situation. The front desk staff were so cold and heartless. The response of either take it or leave it left in tears. I sent an email Monday morning after we returned home. I have yet to receive a response to my email. Not even a simple acknowledgement and we will look into this and get back to you. We had to find another hotel room at 9 pm on a Friday night. No small venture in Cambria during the summer. Clearly this hotel does not care about their customers especially repeat customers. Needless to say WE WILL NEVER reserve another room here. Do better Cambria Pines Lodge!!! Thanks for ruining my anniversary!!
