Only bad thing was the bed and couch/futon were not comfortable at all, futon is expected but it is what it is. I'd stay again because of location. read more

The room we had at Fireside Lodge was tiny, but clean and suited our needs. TV was great, had plenty of coffee and they even added microwave popcorn and hot chocolate. Bathroom had an abundant amount of shampoos and conditioners (which I used and wasn't bad at all). Towels were bright white, smelled good and when they brought us new towels she created a very cute arrangement of hanging towels and washcloths (nice extra effort). Our only issue was with the city of Big Bear Lake. When we arrived the road in front of Fireside Lodge was closed due to a bicycle event and we couldn't get to our hotel for three hours, then . . . Saturday night the City worked on Big Bear Blvd. right outside of our window all night (not exaggerating) with concrete cutters and bright lights into the next day. That was tough. read more

I surprised my son with a stay in Big Bear Lake. I booked Fireside Lodge for him. I have to say I'm so happy I did. Not only was the price and the hotel nice, but it was also in a great location. The best part was the customer service the front desk provided, including Shreyash. They went above and beyond for my son, when he became ill just before checkout. All my needs for him were met immediately. I normally don't do reviews, but I felt this was an important one because getting sick when you're away from home can be scary. Thankfully Fireside Lodge took that fear and stress away, and now this is the place we will always book when returning to Big Bear Lake. Thank you. read more

We wish we could have stayed longer. Room was cozy, clean and loved the fireplace. Definitely get a room with a private backyard. We went in April so the Ski season was over so everything was easy to get to and no wait to get in. The staff was nice and helpful. We will be going back for sure. read more

Honestly surprised at the low rating this place has. For the price I paid, the location is great--right next to the lake, across the street from a general store and the Bowling Barn, and about a 5 minute walk to the Village. Check in was a bit strange as we had to call someone in order for them to come let us into the lobby and verify all our details. I've never had to do anything like that before so it was kind of weird, but not a bad experience. We were given room 10 with the full kitchen and jacuzzi and it was much larger than I thought it would be. Everything in the room was clean (including the provided pans, plates, and mugs which we used in the evenings for dinner) and the heat worked great, was well needed when it was 10 degrees outside! When we came back to the room on the first night, neither of the keys we were provided were working, so I had to call the front desk woman again (I forget her name). She came up to our room to help us out and it turned out the door lock had a dead battery (!), and that maintenance would fix it first thing in the morning. Sure enough even though I woke up at about 5:30am the next morning, the door had been fixed already. I will say that some parts of the room were a bit old and 'broken'. For example, the sliding glass doors in both the bedroom and living room were very hard to open and tended to get stuck. The screen sliding door in the living room was also a bit torn near the handle, probably from constant use. The couch in the living room was also a bit iffy. We weren't sure if it was supposed to fold down into a bed, but sitting on it was not very comfortable as the cushions kept sliding down. It worked out alright though as we either sat on the floor or on the side of the jacuzzi to eat. Service was good, not overly friendly, but they were very helpful with us, especially with our door key issue. Upon check out, they also provide you with a neat little insulated pouch as well as some promotional items (branded pens, magnets) which was a nice surprise. Check out itself took about 45 seconds. Overall, we had a great experience here. Not only was the property nicer than I expected, we were also very close to the Village which made our trip much more fun with all the things to do nearby! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a simple, cozy place to stay near the Village and the lake. read more

We stayed for Thanksgiving here and while the room we wanted was booked, we stayed in a very nice room with a Jacuzzi and fireplace. The fireplace was gas (obviously because it sits directly above the jacuzzi), and flames weren't really that high but I thought about it later and well yes if they were any bigger, could be a fire hazard I guess. Check in was easy and people are friendly. Missus gave the gal behind the counter some pie, both of us having at one point worked during the holidays knew what it's like to work and be away from the family. Dinner was great, I'm from the north east originally and big bear kind of helps with the homesickness ie trees and cool temperatures (but room was warm if we needed it). I'm deaf in one ear so people could scream all they want and I would still sleep through it, but the missus is sensitive and neither of us heard a thing, very quiet and restful sleep. Less than a 2 hour drive from us, maybe permanent residents someday up there, but for now, it's our getaway spot when we can get away from our busy work schedule, we love it! read more

The location is what gives it a 1 star review, the room it's self for the price you pay can be somewhat more modern or updated the futon in living room mattress kept sliding off and held together with wires and screws but what made it the worst were the neighbors you can literally hear everyone's conversation our neighbor literally argued all night with his wife and kids stopping and screaming ,literally noo sleep at all when you called front they replied I didn't hear anything so definitely no noise privacy kinds wished I booked somewhere else will definitely not stay here again .. read more

Fireside is perfectly located, not far from the lake and village. Also right across the street from Big Bears bowling alley and arcade. The staff was super nice and very helpful. Stayed in spa suite #10 which had a tiny leak from the heater and needed a small dining table but aside from that Fireside is a beautiful place to stay! We will definitely stay there again if we are heading to big bear and I'll be recommending this place to friends and fam if they are looking for a place to stay. Thank you Fireside! read more

This by far was the worst place I've had to stay, and I say HAD TO stay because there literally were no other motel/ hotels with vacancy. We got stuck up in big bear due to a snow storm and this was the only room available. Funny thing is.. they marked the room up from $110 to $442 because I'm sure they knew people would be forced to pay that amount due to the storm. Not only that but there was an mans sock inside the lamp next to the bed from previous tenets. We couldn't get ahold of the staff when we called, and they say they open at 8am but we waited till 8:30am and they still were not open. We called them once we got back home because we looked on their website and other websites and the room we stayed on is advertised for $110 and they charged us so much and the room wasn't even clean so we decided we should try to get the charge dropped to a decent price and the "manager" literally accused us of PLANTING a sock in the room and he refused to work with us on a discount or anything. While we were on the phone telling him how online it's advertised way cheaper than what we were charged and 4 other sites said that same price our room mate pulled up the website again to look for himself and the price had been changed during the time we were on the phone with them. My husband and I recently stayed here the past weekend, and it was probably one of the worst experiences we've had at a hotel. We really enjoyed our last stay at the lodge in 2015, which is why we booked here again, but this was a completely different experience. When I booked the reservation I tried to get the same room, and I confirmed with the person I was talking with that the the room booked would have a fireplace in the bedroom. When we got there our room didn't have a fireplace, and we were unable to change because there wasn't any clean rooms, which I understood. I've worked in many hotels, sometimes this happens. We dealt with it, but the main room never warmed above a 60. We used the extra blankets in the room to stay warm, which had weird stains... Then the next evening, around 6pm, after a day out we came back, pleasantly surprised to find the room get to 70 degrees! We wanted to warm up further and started a bath. After about 10 min we checked on it and realized the water was freezing. We checked all the water in the room, and there was no hot water. My husband went to the front office and they said that all the hot water had been out for 30 min, and no one will be out until the next day. I was enraged at the situation, so we packed up to leave. I went to the front office to return the keys and discuss some sort of a refund, and all the lady at the front desk, Lindsey, could say was that she called and no one was available tonight, but we could move to standard room for the hot shower. But there was no refund offered for the cost difference. I paid extra to have a room with a jacuzzi tub (and the fireplace in the bedroom) for a romantic weekend, and now I couldn't even do that. I don't understand why we should pay for something we didn't receive. I dropped off the keys and we left for home that night, not staying our whole reservation. Overall, it was a terrible stay, with poor customer service. I DO NOT recommend this place. We will not be returning. **UPDATE: Sent an email to the manager the next day since I knew the manager wouldn't be in for the next couple of days. Wanted to inform her about the situation before I called. However, she, Christina, emailed me back and fixed the situation the best she could. I did a bunch of research for my trip big bear with my daughter and her dad; I picked this hotel as a place to stay based on reviews and location. I loved it! I stayed in a room with a kitchenette, electric fireplace and a jacuzzi. I'm a clean freak so I was glad everything was clean, all the essentials were there and it really cozy. The only thing that was missy was a few appliances like spoons and extra plates (there was only one big one). The staff did not have extra but they assured me they would be looking into getting more. The location was perfect, room was perfect for us 3 because my daughter is only 2 but I wouldn't have more ppl sleep there (rooms are fairly small). I did recommend this place to a friend and would stay here again on our next trip. Oh and if you go by ppl previous reviews you probably will miss out on this place, glad I ended up staying here. read more

This was the second last stop we had on our week in California. The rooms were cute and cozy and exactly what we were looking for up in the mountains. We declined an upgrade to a room with a wood burning fireplace only to find there was a gas fireplace in our room already. We expected complementary coffee in the morning but there was none made. Due to the off season the manager made coffee to order for us to ensure it was fresh. Very thoughtful and kind. We appreciated the great service and would return again. read more

My husband and I stayed in a lakeside room with a king size bed and futon in the front room. We had a balcony outside both rooms with a beautiful view of Big Bear Lake. There was a stove, microwave, small refrigerator and a 4 cup coffee pot. Coffee, hot chocolate and popcorn is also provided. In our room also had 2 bathrooms but since it was the two of us only one was necessary. We spent the day downtown shopping and ate at Peppercorn Grille, which was delicious and then rested back in our room in front of our wooded fireplace for the rest of the evening. They do provide the wood for a small fee. I loved it. TV was boring. Not too many channels to choose from and many in other languages besides English. My only complaint is the old uncomfortable cushions on the chairs and futon. They have been there for years and have gotten a lot of use out of them. I will be returning since I love the woodsy rustic setting. read more

I am sad to give this rating because the location is good and the place is pet friendly. I was disappointed from the minute I went into the office. I was a late check in - 9pm. The guy did NOT greet me with a hello or thank you for choosing Fireside Lodge - instead it was 'what's your name'. NO SMILE! The entire time he acted like I owed him. I booked on Booking.com - and it was not clear until I arrived that there was an additional fee for my pet. Frankly, I chose Fireside over a different place because of pricing. PLEASE learn from my error - it's not worth the small savings to settle for second best. I was displeased with not getting the unit I thought I was getting when I booked online - it was already after 9p - they told me I had 30 minutes to cancel from the time I stepped into the unit...I should have said it was unacceptable and gotten a refund but I was so tired and my pet was over being in the car. I stayed and made the best of it. I was thankful I brought my own bedding and pillows as the bed was disgusting. The comforter was old and torn. The pillowcases were like paper. The kicker was that half the room - the floor creaked. I brought it to the attention of the front desk the next morning and was told it was too expensive to repair because it's so old. I felt really bad for the people staying in the unit below me - but the front desk did not care. Instead they told me I could upgrade to a suite but it was more $$$$. I wish the fairly new owner (just over 2 years) the best of luck. I recommend to him that he teach his family members to be nicer to the customers - even a simple smile can make a bad situation better. I will never go back and will never recommend to friend or foe. read more

:-/ Charming.... and cozy.... BUT. And yes.. BUT... Aside from the musty moisture smell, the walls are THIN. :-( I could hear the next door neighbor turn on his shower at 6am the following morning... (it sounded like a freight train)... You could hear another neighbor and their naughty kids being scolded on the opposite side... not just muffled voices... clear, full-on conversations! YES, THAT THIN! (and that's not good.) They didn't impose a 2 night minimum when I called a few days before our trip.. Now, I know why... The place is nice and charming with small rooms and a cheesy log cabin kind of feel, but I can't get past how cramped the bathroom area was and how NOISY it could get... Sure its very close to Snow Summit, and pretty much lakeside, but thin walls? COME ON! If I let one "RRRRRIP" in the morning.. I'm sure every surrounding room would be graced with the sound of my flatulance! (I'm willing to bet money on it.) 2 Woofs.. Meh, I've experienced better... in a pinch perhaps.. but NO, I think I'll try elsewhere. read more

My boyfriend and I were there over the weekend. Great location to downtown and the rooms are a good size. The patio had a view of the lake and the horse drawn carriage rode by often and that was cool to see. Also, Sunny at the desk was very nice. However, the rooms were filthy. The shower had a nasty green mass at the bottom (we wore flip flops in the shower), the cleaning service basically barely dusted because there was dust everywhere, I sat on the couch and immediately got several bug bites. I showered right away but still discarded my clothes because I did not want to bring anything home and the only time I met the wife she was not pleasant at all. How can you be at the front desk and not speak, greet or be friendly? Then, when we returned to our room from a day out the housekeeper had the nerve to have gone in to leave an envelope in our room (with a greeting written on it) for a tip. We understand she did not clean our room due to COVID during our stay, but to go in to just leave a tip envelope with the room looking as poorly as it did was a shocker. We did leave a tip but only because we didn't want to be " those" people. Overall, I would prefer to stay elsewhere. Updated 9.7.21 after response from owner Your response is exactly why I'm happy I left the review I did. I was not rude when there so you would not have had to ask me to leave the premises. My Husband and I won a raffle for a two night stay we made our reservation on the 7th of September as my husband was to play with the praise team at a retreat in Big Bear we though awesome we will plan our little mini vacation we were informed today, September 21st the day of the reservation that the new owner sonny won't honor our prize. DO NOT STAY AT THIS LODGE, it is just poor business the owner Sonny said the reason he will not honor our prize is because he needs to make money. read more

The pros: Allowed us to stay 1 night, didn't impose a 2 night minimum Convenient location Nice continental breakfast location. Though the coffee was weak and tasted of cereal. Better off sticking to the coffee in the room. The cons: We stayed in room 25 for $150/night. This room has two beds and it is tiny. Upon opening the door we noticed the off musty smell. Kind of like piles of old wet things left sitting too long. The room was so small that one of the beds was right next to the gas furnace. We had to have the furnace on since it dipped below freezing, but when the furnace fired up it woke me from sleep since it was so close to the bed. I could feel the blasts of heat. Continental breakfast starts at 8:00 AM. Your room key won't open the door before then. Hope you weren't in a hurry to get anywhere! The hardware for the bathroom was serious lacking. The toilet paper holder was pulling off the wall, and the only hook to hang towels on was a tiny brass picture hanger. The switch for the bathroom is in the "closet." Though "closet" is perhaps too grandiose s term - more like tiny nook with two plastic hangers and the bathroom switches. No door on the closet - there isn't room. There were 4 of us and we didn't bother unpacking anything since there was no where to unpack it to. The wireless was unavailable due to a broken modem. No refund offered for this lack of service, though we didn't ask. The lobby is only staffed after 8:00 AM. Asked the lobby where there might be some snow to take the kids, she reported that there was none. Explained that I didn't need vast fields of snow, just a little bit so the kids could crunch their snow boots in some. She repeated that there wasn't any, and that the only snow was to be found in a ski resort. Hopped in the car and found plenty of snow off a road up the mountain a little way. So either she was daft, or didn't like tourists exploring the town. Overall a disappointing experience. For $150 a night I expect a lot more: clean air, unobtrusive central heat, a closet, and maybe even a dresser large enough to hold my dainties. read more

Anyone, I repeat, ANYONE who gives this place more than one stars is a fraud or never stays at $200+/night hotels. Let me explain. To the infrequent traveler, the Motel 6/Econolodge crowd, this place is probably great. But for the price, anyone who knows anything about hotels will see the dramatic shortfalls. KEEP IN MIND THE SUPER HIGH PRICE.... 1. No ironing board in the rooms. No iron either. When we asked the front desk to provide one the response was "we only have three in the entire hotel and we can't find them." What? : / 2. No air conditioner in our rooms or at least not one that worked. We had two rooms for 4 people. This was OK at night (night time temps 50 deg) but during the day when we wanted to shower and get ready for the evening it made it uncomfortable (80+ degrees in the room.) 3. The "outdoor jacuzzi" that came with our room was too chlorinated to use. Once we smelled the chemicals they use to keep them clean, it was a NO-GO item. #overpowering Now, to be fair... If they charged $69/night, this would be a fine choice. I don't expect much from a lower price range room. It would be right in-line with other "lodge" type rooms. This place is trying to create a swank feel on their website but is simply not worth the money. read more

My husband & I decided to make a last minute trip to Big Bear for our anniversary & although our original plan was to stay at a Airbnb, that plan did not go well. So last minute we had to resort to a hotel to have somewhere to stay. My husband saw this hotel while we were scoping for somewhere to stay & let me say it was a jackpot. Even though it was late at night & last minute, Sunny the hotel manager & his son Ricky took GREAT care of us & gave us ease after the night we were having. It even turned out better than our Airbnb. We had a cozy room with a private jacuzzi. Thank you guys for your amazing service, we will definitely be coming back & to all who are looking to get a great deal this is the place! I've stayed at Pine Knot Guest Ranch for 15 years but it recently changed hands and the new owner occupies my favorite smaller cabin that was great for a single person and a dog! (That said, it's one of the better resorts in town and I recommended it for couples and families. It's a bit cost prohibitive for singles.) So I was looking for a new go-to regular place and found it in Fireside Lodge. Lodgings in BB are so iffy - so many of the older cabins/rooms are all yellow pine and lots of tacky fake flowers and trinkets and not all of them allow pets. Fireside Lodge was clean and quaint, very well situated right in the center of town and on the lake yet tucked away and quiet. Each room has their own parking. I stayed in Suite 6, a spa room with giant Jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace. Unfortunately, the gas fireplace wasn't working very well and the receptionist had to come take a look at it. It still only worked properly about 50% of the time and the burner should probably be replaced. Everything else was great -- clean, spacious, with a large spotless kitchen area, fridge, microwave and coffeemaker, plates and cutlery. I went midweek so the rates are cheaper. Groupon also has a deal at time of writing, for $63 a night midweek. Bed was comfortable with high quality linens; bathroom also had brand new high quality towels. There were only a couple of small drawbacks: there are no bedside tables, there's no dresser for clothes (you use a section of the kitchen drawers) and the hanging space is absolutely tiny. Also, the overhead recessed lights are very bright -- so adding smaller lamps on bedside tables would really help make the room perfect. I always take a heavy fake fur blanket as most hotels never provide enough bedding - and to protect sheets from my dog! My dog loved it, it snowed in the night and I got my snowy Big Bear fix!
