I am writing this review based on the owners. My wife and I had just checked in and were starting to unpack are things when we got a emergency call and had to return home. I do not recommend the place to anybody. My first and only night there I had a water leak dripping from the inside of my window. The sound of the drip kept me up for most of the night enabling me from getting a good night sleep. The next day during my checkout, I complained to the manager about the problem and he told me it should have been brought to his attention after I checked in I explained to him right after check-in, we went out to eat and drove around town and didn't get back to the room until 11pm. He told me it wasn't their fault that the leak happened and didn't offer me an apology or any way to rectify the situation like discount on my next return for example. This place is only good for one night when you are out of options. read more

I don't understand why this place only has 2 1/2 stars. I do think they can do some maintenance, the carpet was frayed and some paint could be touched up but overall this place was nice, clean, convenient, the staff was kind and helpful. They offer a FREE shuttle service to their Brewery in the Village, to their wine tasting room, and to all their other lodging locations from 5pm-2am on the Saturday we stayed there. The pool was heated, great location, comfy bed and pillows! We stayed in the chalet #21. Nice bbq/grass area with picnic tables. The walls are thin...3am I could hear our neighbors... I would recommend this place to friends and family. We are looking forward to our next stay at Fireside Lodge. read more

The Fireside Lodge was the perfect place to stay to see my husband's favorite band at the Cave! It was perfectly located within a short walk to the Cave and all the fun and entertainment on Village drive. The room was nice and clean and very reasonably priced. I love the jacuzzi tub and fireplaces. I was also pleased with the friendly staff. We will definitely be visiting again soon! read more

I ended up staying here, not by choice but pretty much had to. I had a very bad and stressful experience. I booked through BigBear-dot-com originally at Bear Creek, sister property. I ended up changing my arrival date (1 day early) by calling their reservation office. The guy on the phone confirmed and even SENT me an email confirmation and I thought we were set. When we arrived there was no cabin for me. I had nowhere to go and Jacqueline, the GM was not willing to help me or take the blame for their mistake. She had absolutely no customer service skills. How the hell did she ever get this job? Nobody ever apologized once, ever. She made me feel it was my mistake and even told me I would have to pay for the night if I wanted to stay here. She called the Big Bear association and pretty much told them to deal with it because she wasn't. They did and were so kind and apologized for a mistake they didn't commit. Jacqueline was not willing to give up her suite at Fireside without first collecting some extra money from me. Well the Association arranged everything for me and that's how I ended up here for one night. But had to move to Bear Creek (sister property) for the second night. Please save yourselves the stress and book elsewhere, the don't deserve anyones business. For Accomodations: We stayed in room 4. Consisted of 2 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, kichenette and living room area with fireplace. It looked clean when we first got there. My mother ended up cleaning the microwave. It was soo gross the previous guests heated something that spilled out and made a mess that wasn't cleaned up before we checked in. She had to clean it up. The window sill behind the futon/sofa in the living room was so dirty, there was dust and cup rings printed on it. Gross. The restrooms and everything else appeared clean, but they need to pay attention to detail in areas mentioned. It was great that there were 3 full bathrooms. It's so convenient when you have several adults. There is free Wi-Fi it was convenient and worked well from our room. Check in is 3pm which is fine, but check out is 10am is too early especially when you have to worry about cleaning everything for housekeeping, if you don't you could get charged a fee. The front desk agents were nice. But will NEVER return to any of their properties and I will make sure people I know about my experience. read more

We stayed for one night and were given a good price. The room had a fireplace, comfortable bed, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and even a balcony with a view of the lake with 2 wooden chairs. The room was very clean and the decor was cute. The owner was very friendly and made us feel welcome. It is also walking distance to the village and lake which is a great plus! Pretty crappy. We get there at 3. That's when check in is supposed to be. The woman sitting there could not be bothered. She said you're gonna have to come back in an hour they're not done cleaning. Well, then should you tell your guests that before the make the trek up? So I stand there. She gets annoyed with me standing there so she asks If I had any questions. I said, no. She got so irked with me standing there that she went and checked on our room, and what? It was clean! In the mean time she tells me she has had a busy holiday weekend and I said its Sunday she said ya we have a lot of rooms now... so while shes checking the room a family comes up... they ask me if i think she has rooms I said ya she told me she had a bunch.... we all go in to the office when she comes back and they ask her for a room... she said she has none.... I'm not one to make assumptions but they weren't white and they had two kids... I looked at her in awe and she said, my girls are backed up I'm not renting any more rooms. Family leaves. Two older women come she rents them a suite and tells them check in is at five. They're walk in also.... we get the key and go in the room. Typical room. The pillows have stains, the sheets. And despite the no pet policy the frame to the bed smells like urine. Try to turn the TV on, no remote. Get in the jacuzzi tub and a spider comes out. Try to check out and the office is closed. The phone which is a cell goes directly to voicemail and email comes back undeliverable. Trash outside is piled up, and the cleaning people never came once during our stay to clean or give us new sheets. I love big bear but this motel was not the best. Thank you staff and General Manager of the Fireside Lodge. There was an unfortunate mixup with our reservations and when we checked in we were told that we were not expected for 2 more weeks....this could have been a disaster as we had brought our family and dogs up and we were there already. The staff worked hard to find us a place in one of their other properties, the Bear Creek Lodge. We received what we were expecting, a two bedroom cabin with a fireplace. Our mini family vacation was saved. We had a great time and enjoyed the rustic accommodations, the roaring fireplace in the chill of the night and especially the help they gave which was over-the-top to make sure we had a place to stay that evening even when things were sold out! They actually moved a few people around to make it right by us. We couldn't ask for more...THANKS! read more

Staff are very unhelpful and room noise is unbearable! For starters there was no hot water on the first night of our stay. When we called the front desk and complained about no hot water there response was to try again in the morning. Talk about absolute disregard! Who is going to shower in freezing cold water? Besides the issue of no hot water, there was non-stop banging above our room throughout the night, every night. Leads me to believe this was the maids quarters or maintenance. You can hear cars driving by and people talking outside. It's time they upgrade their windows to dual-pane and insulate their walls better. read more

If you are looking for a luxurious setting, this is not for you. We came to the lake for one night as a quick weekend gateway and this lodge is good for that sort of a thing. It's across from the lake (not waterfront though) and from our room's private deck (27) we could see a piece of lake. In 60s style, cozy room with fireplace. Weird set up though because there is a fridge and microwave right next to the sink which is outside the bathroom. I was kind of disappointed in their "advertising". When booking online, the room 27 said "king fireplace with king bed". Then room 28 said "Queen fireplace with KING bed". Based on this I booked those two rooms because they were next to each other so we could be close to the other party we came with. Well when checking in asked the front desk lady about it and she was "no it's a queen". And it WAS! But their website stated King Bed. So please call them to double check before booking. Now the saddest part is that they charged me the SAME amount for queen and king rooms! And because of that I won't come back here. There are plenty of other places where I can crash overnight or two when I'm at the lake the next time. Update: they gave us a new receipt reflecting $5 charge between the rooms. Hah! read more

This place is so cute! We reserved the spa suite and as soon as we walked into it we loved it. Fireplace right above the jetted spa that we loved. No problems with the bed or any appliances. Fireside Lodge was a wonderful experience this last weekend. I went to Big Bear on Presidents Day Weekend with my daughters. We got this charming Suite which was perfect for us. We had a roaring fireplace and a lil kitchen which was perfect for our snacking. The location is perfect for walking to the Bowling Alley, Starbucks and many restuarants and local shopping. The view from our balcony was amazing of the the lake. I will come back to the this place. read more

We have stayed many times in Big Bear many times at several locations and this place is our new go to. We were looking for an affordable place for 2 adults and 1 child with a little privacy for the adults. This place was great, we had a family suite with a separate room from our daughter who had a pull out sofa bed. Normally these things are extremely uncomfortable and wore out but this one was decently comfortable and our bed was a little on the firm side but comfortable none the less. The hot tub was in the common livingroom/family space with a fireplace. The room was very clean with complimentary coffee and popcorn. The kitchen area was stocked with everything you need to cook a meal with and plates/utensils to eat off of instead eating from a bag if you opt to get take out. The view of the lake from our balcony was unbeatable. We came in pretty late on a Monday around 1015pm and Sunny was there waiting for us and never complained or rushed us through the check in. He was extremely friendly and helpful and willing to deal with all our late night questions. He checked on us the next afternoon and thanked us several times. The pool is currently under renovation but should be up and newly redone in May. Overall a great place we will definitely stay at again. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Don't even KNOW where to begin! :( #1 complaint, which really freaks me out: SUPER UN-CLEAN. Hair on bed sheets, etc. Stench in room. Something like a cross between old laundry and stale pee. #2 ok, just a dump in general!!! NOT WORTH THE MONEY. I am NOT a picky person. I sleep at Travelodge, Motel 6, etc. etc. I camp, hike for weeks without showering, sleep in my car, etc. MY GUESS IS THE 5 STAR REVIEWS are written by SOMEONE WITH AN INTEREST IN THIS BUSINESS. Again, this is just a guess. FOR THE MONEY, YOU CAN STAY TONS OF OTHER PLACES in Big Bear. Actually, for LESS! I'm so so so sorry I didn't read yelp before I booked it and went there. We went to Big Bear on a whim and decided to stay at the Fireside Lodge based on what the reservations person described as a "nicely appointed" hotel. Pros: Friendly staff. Cons: Where to begin... 1) Furnishings and decor that have not seen an upgrade since 1981, my best guess. 2) Our "suite" had a smell of gas, which the staff was aware of but had not addressed. 3) Windows missing screens. No air conditioning. 4) Cobwebs inside the room. 5) Carpet stained and frayed to the point where the tack strip was exposed and my son, my husband, and I all cut our feet on it. 6) In the middle of the night the gas heater turned on by itself and made a huge racket. When we finally figured out how to work it, even after it shut off it kept banging for another 30-45 minutes as it cooled off. 7) The rate includes breakfast, but don't get too excited, it's pretty crappy. For all these luxuries we were charged $250. This included a "pet fee" of $35 to clean up after our dog, which is hypoallergenic and did not even leave a hair behind. Given that the floors were old, stained and damaged, this fee was downright ridiculous. We have stayed at much better hotels for considerably less than what we were charged here. We wouldn't have minded paying what it was worth, which is $80-$100 at the most. $250 is just plain robbery. Bottom line: Don't stay here if you don't want to pay way too much for a substandard hotel. read more

I used a groupon for 3 nights over last weekend. The place is in prime location. We walked everywhere and brought our bikes. The deal that I got, can't be beat. Overall happy with our stay. My son was crazy for the gas fireplace. We stayed in a standard room. Small yet comfortable for two. Microwave and fridge. Coffee and a pack of popcorn added a nice touch. Not the easiest to do business with at all. I booked them through a different company I believe because when I requested a room with the lake view they said "absolutely, no problem". When we get there of course we're on the bottom story away from the lake. So we went in and asked what happened and they said "we would have never said that especially since we're fully booked". I booked ours 4 months in advance. I was really disappointed in the customer service part but the room wasn't too bad. Loved the jacUzzi tub, but they should upgrade the mattresses and bedding for sure. read more

This was a nice place room 8 has an outside jacuzzi great when its super cold outside. Down sides we stayed 2 nights and our room was not cleaned, they said we didnt put both signs on our two doors maid service...lame they should have cleaned...we were downstairs and you could hear everything from the above guests...very noisy to the late night hours....they are located one minute from the village...and the bowling barn...I would recommend but be sure to bring your own towels for jacuzzi they give you 4 bath towels only..Good Luck Big Bear is a fun place read more

It was a good and peaceful get away I loved that this chalet I believe #21 was awesome and spacious for my family size of 3 and a pet!!!! Yes pet friendly only paid 35 for her which was awesome also so close to the village where there is a lot of good local restaurants but they also have like dennys,jack in the box etc... I will be coming here again it was snowing when I went probably check it out in summer they say their is a lot to do in the summer this chalet included pots pans fridge a kitchen and a fire place even silverware so I totally recommend it !!!!ohhh and no I did not c one spider when I stayed there got me all paranoid read more

My wife and I stayed here the first weekend in March to go snowboarding at Snow Summit. The location is great - just a couple minutes drive away from Snow Summit and an easy walk to the Village where we ate dinner and did some shopping. We stayed in one of the suites with a Lake View and the room was clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was also more substantial than I thought it would be with good waffles, cereal, bagels, yogurt, granola bars etc. We borrowed some movies from the lobby which was cool, but the TVs are a bit old and outdated. Overall we had a really good experience there and plan to stay there again. read more

Groupon let us down, that's a bad Groupon, bad! $100 for two night stay was enticing but the lodging was not. Room 26 was our stay and it was no bueno. The young staff had a back room adjacent to our room which was a hang out for local underage drinking. The rooms are not equipped with AC so leaving the window open was our only option to circulate cool air in. However, The Lord of the Flies cigarettes smell would enter our room all night. My wife and I came here for our anniversary. Our room was kind of like a small studio apartment. It was cozy with a jacuzzi and fireplace. It also had a small kitchen area with microwave, refrigerator, and stove, which was nice for making breakfast in the mornings. The location was within walking distance to a small shopping area and it had a small view of the lake. We would definitely recommend this to couples getting away for a long weekend. read more

FABULOUS! My boyfriend and I went up to Bear on President's Day weekend and selected the Fireside Lodge, both for the location to The Village area and the two resorts AND the resonable price during a holiday weekend. We arrived Friday night and were welcomed to smiling faces, quick service, and a complimentary bottle of wine. Our room was a queen suite with jacuzzi and fireplace on the bottom floor facing the parking (not the lake). However, each night we took the 3 minute walk down to the lake - beautiful. The room was nice, equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, dishes and silverwear, and hot chocolate/coffee to boot. The staff was helpful with recommendations to eat, drink, ski/snowboard etc. Just because I read some of the other reveiws let me just say: The room did NOT smell, the huge in suite jacuzzi was awesome, the staff cleared snow from the parking lot and behind cars every morning, the continental breakfast had many choices including fresh waffles, VHS movies for free, and a very friendly staff. It is a rare thing to see someone so passionate about their job as the manager at Fireside Lodge. I would definately stay here again and PLAN ON IT. Only downfalls: no dressers, closets, or hooks to hang clothes on after snowboarding. The bed's mattress needs to be replaced with a new one. I would recommend this hotel - read more

Quaint but not worth the money. There is no attention to detail here. There is a soap dispenser in the shower - it was empty. The wifi wasn't working. We had to have the guy at the front desk get the fire working, he had to bring a lighter and nurse it along. There were three forks in the drawer, none of them matched. The layout of the room is weird - it's tub centric. I agree with other reviewers that the service is good and the breakfast hall was very clean. read more

NO AIR CONDITIONING! We paid $200.00 for one night and no where on the website did it say they didn't have air conditioning in any rooms. It was extremely HOT and the room never cooled off. There were dead spiders on the floor. And the refrigerator leaked water in the floor. Sounded like a herd of elephants upstairs, guess that was the reason for the earplugs in the room. "If you're lucky enough to be in the mountains, you're lucky enough". My husband and I stayed at Fireside Lodge for Super Bowl weekend. We were beyond thrilled with not only our room but the location. We could walk everywhere in minutes and were practically in the village. There was a lovely country market across the street and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Whenever we requested fresh towels or toilet paper, they were delivered promptly. I find many of the negative reviews to be a bit unfair. Our room was clean and provided us with everything we needed. The fireplace and some other decor was a bit dated, but we found that to be quite charming! We are both Colorado natives and grew up in the mountains and are very used to cabins of all shapes, sizes and conditions. For the price we paid, and the location we believe this was a tremendous deal and will certainly be back again soon. If you want a Hilton, stay at a Hilton. If you want a lodge like cozy experience, stay here and just be thankful you are fortunate enough to travel and to be in the great outdoors. read more

Took my husband to Big Bear for a surprise 40th birthday weekend. Found the Fireside Lodge on Groupon and booked 2 nights. When we arrived we were upgraded to a one bedroom suite with a wood burning fireplace and a view of the Lake. The Hotel was nice, and we enjoyed getting away from "life" for a couple of days. The location was great & we were able to walk basically into the little town and have lunch / dinner. Would definitely go back again and stay. read more
