These 1 star reviews are all true. Brought my car in after hitting a pothole on Michigan ave. My tire was completely flat, and a few hours after bringing it in, I got a call telling me I had a cracked inner rim and a wrecked tire. I was then told it'd be $1100...unless I had a warranty. Luckily I did, so I called them back with information for them to confirm a claim. They seemed hesitant, and said they usually didn't "deal" with warranties, but would try and see if they could take it. I had to call twice a few days later to try and pull updates from them, but they were basically unresponsive, telling me they'd call me a half hour later and never doing so. I understand that they may have been swamped with work, so I ended up getting my car towed to a Ford dealership. HOWEVER, Ford said that my wheel and rim were completely fine, and just my tire was damaged! I really don't understand who they're trying to fool. I've now been without my car for over 2 weeks now because of this. Not cool. read more

Only came in to get a flat repaired (and to make sure the rest were OK) but based on that experience, this will definitely be the first place I go for routine maintenance and any repairs I might need. The guy that helped me (I feel a bit of a jerk for not catching his name) was not only extremely knowledgeable, but friendly and funny. At first we thought I'd need a new tire but he decided to go to the parking lot and look at my truck and the tires (there was also a question about if the tires in his computer/book were the actual tires I had - they weren't. He looked out the window and called the exact tires before we even got to my truck. Yes, he called it from at least 50 feet away.) He looked at my tires, looked at the flat in the bed, immediately saw a plug that I hadn't even noticed and said "Yeah, your tires are actually in phenomenal shape, I bet the problem is the plug, let's see if we can just fix it properly" Turns out there were TWO plugs in that tire that needed proper fixing. They fixed both, replaced the spare with the normal tire, check all the other tires, made sure they were inflated to the proper pressure and charged me.... nothing. (well there was some discussion about giving the guy who did the work a hug.. in a fun way! We'd been joking around. No hugs were ultimately given or required.) Look, I'm under no illusion that that freebie is a business model. But it's a smart and, in this case, an effective one. Between the level of service, the overall pleasant experience and the attitudes of the staff? PLUS the gimme? I don't see a reason to go anywhere else. read more

Way over priced for work that is rarely done correctly. This was my 4th or 5th time leaving unsatisfied. Terrible customer service, they do not listen to you and treat you as if you are incompetent if you are a woman. Will not go back. read more

These guys were very helpful in fixing my car's starter issue. Initially they didn't find the issue, and when the car refused to start and had to be towed back in, they were quick to apologize, give us a nice credit and completed the repair quickly. Love that they are in Corktown and are doing things to support the community, too. read more

The first time I brought my car here everything turned out pretty good. Second time not at all. They replaced my rotors and they were the cheap kind that I now need replaced! Aside from that they returned my car in worse condition, brakes are super squeaky and my steering wheel now shakes a ton. I would never bring my car here again, they seem in a rush to get cars in and out and not really take the time to make sure they are running the best they should be. Don't be fooled with how friendly and nice they are, truly disappointing. read more

This place is in fact AMAZING from the moment I made an appointment with the lovely gentleman Craig on the phone I was very pleased with the customer service. Then it was very clean and the service from the moment I entered the door was spectacular as well as the timeliness. I went to this Firestone for the first time after my car broke down on Bagley and needed a tow in. I obviously didn't have a service appointment but they were able to get my car in fairly quickly and had the repairs done in a couple of hours. It would have given 4 stars but I was pretty grumpy being towed in and spending money on my ride. read more

I set an appointment online the day before and showed up fifteen minutes early to have four new tires installed. After a 2 1/2 hour wait I inquired about the delay at which point I was informed that my tire was not in stock and an employee was traveling to another location to get my tires. This would have been nice to know at the onset because after the 3 hr wait now I am dangerously close to missing a key personal appointment. Which is why I scheduled an early appointment in the first place. Why bother even taking appointments if the necessary steps to complete jobs in a reasonable time frame won't be followed? I stopped here as a last minute resort as my car was having trouble getting it to start. The queue in front of me was fairly long but still were able to get me out within an hour. Very clean lobby while I was waiting and the service I received was at a high caliber. I'll definitely be coming back here for future work as needed. read more

My car still doesn't start right. But these guys did what they could, and recommended going to another shop to finish the work my car needs. Either way I'm glad I was referred to these folks. To start, you can find cheaper options, but not many. And after countless unsavory experiences with local "ma and pa" shops in SW Detroit, I realized that having honest and professional auto service is well worth the extra cash. Now to my car--'03 Mazda with a recurring starter issue. It's scary to go into a shop with an oldi-ish car that you feel is *maybe* worth intermittent repairs. It causes me untold turmoil. I knew my problem was probably a cocktail of my starter/solenoid/flywheel whatever. They pinpointed what they could do, made the repair, and recommended what else I should do next. Yeah they did BS me a little but that's okay. I told them specifically that I could only afford the starter issue, but was told twice, 'you have the Mazda with the starter, two tires, and an air filter... Yeah $200 more than we quoted.' I need to emphasize that this is pretty standard. I wasn't pressured to commit to anything. To conclude, my experience was good. But Firestone on Michigan Ave. gets five stars because the recommendations I got paid off. This place has a following. Give them your business. Oh, also I work crazy hours and these folks let my car sit in their lot every day for a week, pushing it into the garage nightly. read more

For a long time I've been taking my finicky Volkswagen to a very far away shop that specializes in VWs. After giving this Firestone location a try a year or so ago, I've been coming here for all my basic auto repair needs and not making the long voyage out to Waterford unless completely necessary. Every time I've been here I've been completely shocked by how reasonable their rates are. Oil changes and tire repair are dirt cheap. The staff are very friendly and don't treat you like you're an idiot if you're a lady. They are also honest; once when my catalytic converter had been partially removed by some jerks, the fellow at Firestone recommended that I go to this other shop that could do the job faster and cheaper. They've also hooked me up with coupons a few times. The repairs are completed in a reasonable amount of time. I like to walk down to Astro coffee and have a little coffee and snack while my car gets worked on, which is fun. I highly recommend this shop for basic car repair and maintenance. read more

This place is definitely the largest and highest QUALITY auto shop in the Downtown Detroit area. My car was overheating due to a bad fuel pump and I needed to get somewhere, fast. I tried a few other places that couldn't get me in that day, and one (University Auto Shop, where the employees didn't even greet or acknowledge me as I stood there waiting for five minutes, literally 30 feet away from them, in front of the open garage door. I watched them talk to each other casually and eat take-out food before I drove out of there) that I ended up leaving because of the terrible customer service. I finally got the car to Firestone a couple hours before close and they were able to diagnose and quote the repair within an hour. The part came next day and I was back on the road by noon! Special thanks to Craig for the PHENOMENAL customer service. He truly made my experience painless and easy. Highly recommend this place to anyone in need. read more
