Let me start with this - About 1 week ago, I left a great review for Pope on dual highway, due to…read morethem supposedly correcting an error that I had with my thermostat and engine overheating, only to find out, that not only did they not solve the issue, they were negligent and also did not tell the truth. I have put about 4K into this Chevy Cruze since November of 2025. In every instance, I spent my money with Pope. They were convenient, and so I though, did a great job. Now, to my recent chain of events - one of the last things I did was to get a new timing belt installment, along with water Pump, which was 950. I had called around, and this was one of the lower estimates, plus they were conveniently right across the street from where I lived. 2-3 weeks later, I start having issues with the Thermostat, and in this case, it was all the way to the "C" side of the thermometer gauge. At one point, the dash gave an error message stating that AC was off, due to car overheating. I thought it odd that it was all the way to the left(C), and not the right(H), which is normally more common if engine is overheating. The next day, I called and spoke with one of the lady's at the front desk, and explained the issue. She said that I could bring it in, and they would look at it, at no charge. I was very pleased with this, and trusted that they would either fix the issue, or tell me what was causing the issue. I made it completely clear that I was in no way blaming them for the current errors. Ok, so when I get my car back, one of the lady's at the front said they would bring my car out shortly, as the mechanic was still looking at it. As the mechanic came in and gave her the key to give back to me, she looked at the mechanic and said "Any leaks found?" the mechanic non verbally concurred that there were none, with a very swift head nod. I thought it was odd that he did that, but nevertheless, brushed it off. The lady at the counter explained that there were air bubbles, and that they "bled" it 3 times. As she stated 'it just needed the belch". Interesting analogy. Fast forward to this past Sunday, I am driving home from running an errand, and I notice the thermometer gauge is moving..First a little to the middle, then back to the left. I kept an eye on it. As I got closer to my residence, I am noticing it is progressively moving to the right, towards the "H" side. Ultimately, again, the "AC OFF DUE TO HIGH ENGINE TEMP". I am praying I can make it to the house. Before I know it, the thermometer gauge is all the way to the right. Now, a message stating "ENGINE IDLE DUE TO OVRHEATING ENGINE, TURN OFF ENGINE". I can hear the fan very loudly as I get onto my residence street, and I eventually am able to park the vehicle. As I get out of the car, extremely livid, Even when I turned car off and locked door, the fan was STILL loudly going. Next day, I decide I need to get my car to a different mechanic. I chose one that was not too far from pope, and probably a quarter of a mile away. I explain the issues, and drop the car off. I left it over night, as the mechanic called and said there were A LOT of things going on with the car, and they were trying to decipher the codes they were getting. Definitely not what I wanted to hear. Anyway, the next day, the mechanic INSISTED I go in to discuss everything. Turns out, there is NO COOLANT in the reservoir, I have an oil leak, need several hoses replaced, along with new reservoir tank for the coolant, have possible cylinder damage, and a bunch of other things. I told the mechanic about Pope agreeing to look at my vehicle when I had the initial issues arrive after getting the timing belt and water pump, and the mechanic then said that "If they bled the system like they stated, that would have involved checking coolant levels, and also checking for leaks. Leaks? I said "they told me there were NO LEAKS" when they bled it. The mechanic shook his head and stated that they must have not bled it then, as that would be one of the primary things they would check for. I then stated, well "I just got a new timing belt and water pump a few weeks back". The mechanic said "that does not appear to be a new water pump, unless it was already a used one, and they installed it in your vehicle". I was literally so angry that I contemplated going right over to Pope, but luckily, my better judgement kicked in, as I new that I could possible go off the rails at their location, and then cause even more issues, than what I was currently facing. All in all, there was about 6K worth of things that needed fixed. I apparently needed a new cooling system. Now, I am not naïve, as I NOW KNOW that Chevy Cruze's aren't the best when it comes to durability, but I could not understand how I was told there were no coolant leaks (at Pope), that they bled the system(Pope), and that they had installed a new water pump with my timing belt (Pope). Got a…read moreflat in Hagerstown, Md, 8/26/24, and could not find a shop to accommodate the space to repair flat on 5th Wheel. Finally, contacted Pope Tire and they were so helpful. When other shops did not have space and refused any help outside of the bays at the shop, Pope Tire owner, Jeff, said come on down, we'll help you. He not only had the right tire to replace the flat tire, but fixed the flat tire outside the bay, with no problems and I was finally on my way again. Thank you is not enough for the treatment and care they provided to us to get us back on the road. They were more concerned about taking care of the customer than anything else. Definitely recommend them for your tire needs.

Conveniently located, very clean and impressively maintained. I'm an electronics technician by trade and do some minor maintenance and repairs on my own vehicles. I was concern with a clunking that seemed to be coming from the front passenger side when I hit a bump. When I needed other work I'd ask in a "by the way' fashion, if they would also check for the source of that noise. And every time they'd fix something for between $100-$130, but the noise would linger. I know noise problems can be tricky, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking they'll get it the next time. Finally, after 3 or 4 years and may $700 or $800 I mentioned to the receptionist that over the years they never fixed my noise problem. She conveyed it to Scott in the back and he when off. Totally offended, like I insulted his integrity. Ok, at this point I'm not sure if they'd been bilking me or maybe it was repetitive misdiagnosis or incompetence, but I knew I needed a new shop. So, I when to Sears Automotive and they found it to be a lower control arm (worn bushing). Fast-forward to my next vehicle, a couple years later, my emergency brake wasn't holding the weight of the vehicle when parked on a hill. I explained the problem to Scott and he told me that was normal. Any automotive technician knows that without the emergency brake engaged the tiny transmission pawl singularly holds a large portion of the weight of the vehicle and if it should give (which it will eventually) you're looking at big bucks in transmission repair, not to mention possibly collision damage. This time I when to Carmax, they fix it, stating it was stuck, due to stubborn rust. $61.00. We'll, that's my experience. Hope you can gleam from it.

The mechanic sorted out my problem quickly and took the time to educate me on what happened, then checked with me on what he wanted to do and what it would cost. At that point I would have paid $$$ to not be stuck in Hagerstown for the weekend (sorry Hagerstown), but he in no way took advantage of my stuck situation. He got the orders in for all the parts right before the shops closed and the receptionist even went out and picked up the parts from the stores where the delivery people had already left for the day. I was back on the road in under and hour and my car is running great. This business is family owned and they really do treat you like family. I highly recommend Dave's to anyone, especially people stuck with car trouble on 70!

That said, I went Big Chain and I want to share my experience this morning with Discount Tire in Martinsburg. I looked around, read reviews on Consumer Reports for tires and tires stores, considered the local shop we have used since they opened 5 or 6 years ago... I decided to replace kind with kind. I got the same tires the car came with new. Michelin Primacy A/S. I figured they were good enough for Ford to spec on the car... I also decided on Discount Tire. They are Consumer Reports third highest rated chain and the only one of the top chains in the Martinsburg area. HOLY COW!!! I did the ordering online on Thursday and set up the appointment for 8:00 AM Saturday. Thursday: Email and text confirming the order. Friday: Email and text confirming the tires had been delivered and confirming the 8:00 AM Saturday appointment. This morning I arrived at the location at 7:48. Not open yet, no problem, I knew that. I am always early... 7:55: Tech comes out with a tablet, knows who I am, asks for the keys... 7:57 AM the car is in the service bay. Four techs descend on the car like a NASCAR pit crew. Four hydraulic jacks lift the car and by 8:00 AM all four wheels are off the car. Each tech takes one wheel and removes the tire, tests the TPS units, mounts and balances the new tire, and mounts it on the car. 8:11 the car is DONE. 8:12 the car is in the parking lot, I am finishing up with the service advisor. 8:15 I am in my car and pulling out of the parking lot. AMAZING!!! Everything done efficiently, professionally, properly. As I said, I like to shop with the locally owned stores but this is a level of service that can't be equaled. I should also mention that the price was far better than I could find anywhere else.

My wife and I went to Discount Tires in Martinsburg WV and ordered tires. They went down the price…read moreand and gave me a total which i had already done my math so i knew what it should be. it was almost 300 higher. i asked the guy to tell me how he got the prices. As he was quickly going down the list tires, install certificate, disposal. i said i dont want the certificates. He asked why, i replied i just dont want it. We leave, tires come in and my wife has to take it by herself this time. Well it started all over for her. The first guy says we have to do an inspection before you put the tires on. He says you need to get the wipers replaced($100+) and why did you refuse the certificates. She replied my husband just changed them 2 months ago, he says he has to get his manager to take it off. The manager comes out and says why are you refusing the certificates. Your making a mistake. These people are bullies and take advantage of people that dont know they dont have to get anything they dont want. They make it sound like someone has to get these things to get serviced. I can imagine how many elderly they have taken advantage of. Lets get to those certificates around 50 to 75 per tire, yes they will fix or replace them but how many people blow more than 1 tire out there in normal driving? If you blow one and you bought the certificates you already paid for that 1 tire in total certificates. Now if you happen to blow 2 tires, then it may be worth it, but i like my odds and I will always refuse this bs! Judging by the ratings Im seeing and the common stories its safe to say they dont care about reviews or customer service because we all continue to go there for whatever reason. I will drive 10 more miles and hit a different or support my local shop. These guys are bullies and thugs and take advantage of women, elderly and any other naive person that walks in! i wish so bad I was able to be there when those tires were installed!
