I will not be returning to Firestone as a paying customer. I recently took my truck in for an oil change and whoever changed the oil damaged the drain plug on my oil pan. I noticed this about two days after I got my oil change that my oil pan was leaking all over my garage floor. So I took my truck into a local mechanic and asked them to take a look. Since he was a friend of mine, he drained my oil for free and took a look. He said whoever had changed my oil last must've stripped out the oil pan causing the drain plug area to leak. So out of courtesy and for free, he put a gasket behind the drain plug to help prevent it from leaking continuously. I understand that accidents happen so I decided to do a little research and go online to price out oil pans. I found them for around $60. Not a big deal, right? I can handle that. I thought maybe I would take it back to Firestone or my local mechanic and see if they could just change out the pan. Then I did a little bit more research and found out that this was a pretty extensive job and took several hours of labor. Unfortunately, on this make and model you can't just pop off the oil pan and put on another one. You have to lift the motor up a few inches to make room for the oil pan to slide out, and back in. The quote I got from a few different people was about $700 total in labor. Well, I don't have $700. So I made a formal review on yelp and corporate actually reached out to me apologizing for the inconvenience. I was extremely impressed by their professionalism and their follow up. They said that they were going to look into the matter and reach out to me within 7 to 10 business days. Sure enough, I received a phone call from the Firestone branch that I taking my truck to initially to get the oil change. The manager Mike said "hey Eric, this is Mike the manager at Firestone. We are calling about your inquiry and we wanted to let you know that we were going to take care of this. I have to order your oil pan and I will call you when it's in." So a few days later I got a call from Mike letting me know that the oil pan was in. He asked when I wanted to make arrangements to drop it off. I told him that I would drop it off Friday night after work and they can have it all day on Saturday. So I dropped my truck off on Friday about 5 PM and said "thank you so much Michael, I really appreciate you guys doing this for me." If this was a simple repair I would handle it myself, but I just can't, and my truck is very important to me and how I make my money." He said "I totally understand and we're gonna take care of everything." So I got a call the following day about 3 PM and Mike said "hi Eric, you're all set. Everything's been done." I was so excited! No more leaking oil. No more threatening calls from my HOA wanting to charge me for oil spills on the concrete, and just overall phenomenal customer service. I was highly impressed. So when I arrived Mike said "we didn't actually change the oil pan. We just put a gasket behind the drain plug. Whoever changed your oil last must've stripped the drain plug." Ahhh, yeah. That was you guys. Hello? This is the whole reason that I am here. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I was so upset that I didn't want to lose my cool so I just got my truck and left. When I got home I crawled under the truck and took a look. Nice work. I'm glad it took you 24 hours to put a Teflon gasket behind my drain plug. I could've done that. This also wasn't discussed over the phone, and why didn't you call me to tell me the change of plans? Now, let me back up a little bit. Friday before I took my truck to Firestone, they had a third-party inspector come to my work to take a look at my truck. He crawled around and did his inspection and said "whoever changed your oil last must've stripped out the drain plug." Dude! Am I in the twilight zone? This is you guys. You're the one that stripped out my drain plug. That's why I made an appointment. That's why you called me and told me you were going to change the oil pan. That's why you're here doing the inspection. I get that this was an expensive repair and probably a simple mistake, but sometimes you just have to make things right. I was a loyal customer, but that is very unlikely now. I will also be very lucid if people ask for a recommendation as to where to take their car for repairs or maintenance. So what happens the next time I go to get my oil changed? What kind of Frankenstein job are they going to find underneath my oil pan? I'll give you guys one more chance to make this right but I do not want the work done at that previous location. As for the pricing, their parts/labor is overpriced. Here's a comparison: $900+ for replacing my front struts. 300+ for each and 300+ for the labor $800 @ hi tech auto @ balboa for BOTH FRONT and REAR struts INCLUDING LABOR already. Good for oil change. Just for the oil change. This is the only auto place i have taken my Honda civic for the last many years and I paid for that. My car was making a weird sound while turning and they never found the actual issue. They worked around it fixing things that was not the problem. Came here for a regular oil change not realizing how much it was going to cost me. Last week, the week of 9/16-9/22 I was quoted $49.99+tax and labor for a full synthetic oil change. But because I needed one I just went ahead and accepted the new price for $59.99+tax and labor which ended up being 74 and some change. They sounded like really down to earth guys who helped me out fast. I actually was waiting next door at first, but as they were closing and the guy already had a customer, he pretty much ignored me so I walked on over to firestone. I explained to him the leak on my tire and how I had found it deflated. He gave me a good price right off the bat when I asked him how much it would cost, it was already at a discounted price from the standard quote. (I saw it on the receipt. (16 dollars total to repair the hole and balance discounted from 22) It was on a Sunday and I was lucky to even find a place open later than usual, or else I wouldn't have transportation the next day. They even allowed me to go and watch as the guy repaired my tire. I was surprised when he yanked out a nail that had stuck all the way through (it didn't even show when I inspected the tire earlier) He gave me an estimate on my front tires which I have to replace soon, sounded pretty honest about it saying it'll cost the same just about anywhere. (they're tonka type off road tires) He was really honest because he even told me he wouldn't be able to find an exact replacement for my tires, BFGoodrichs, but could only find a very similar match. Came in to buy windshield wipers with a 2 for 1 coupon we got in the mail for being a past customer. Since I didn't have auto service, I didn't give 5 stars. Nonetheless, Josh helped me right away, found the right size, offered to put them on my truck and I was on my way. I stopped by this Firestone because I had a screw in my back tire. I just wanted to get it removed and plugged as I just bought this truck a month ago. The guy who came to look at my truck( wish I knew his name), he barely looked at it and told me he couldn't plug it and I would have to buy a new tire because it was too close to the outside of the tire. He wouldn't even attempt to take off the tire. $220 for a stock tire. I called my mechanic and he said that is what these guys try to do. So I left, stopped by pep boys, and they said it was close but they would take off the tire and check it out. They took it off, plugged it and I was on my way for FREE. I will never return to Firestone for a tire and you shouldn't either! I understand the concept of selling but at the end of the day, had they helped and provided customer service, I would have bought my next set of tires there. I went into get a oil change from this location (Firestone Complete Auto Care on 4161 Convoy St) and was greeted by a very friendly guy (Austin). I informed him that I would like two services from him: 1.) Synthetic Oil change 2.) Complete Vehicle Inspection I got a estimate that totaled: $89.70 - The price breakdown is as follows: Synthetic Oil Change = $69.99 Complete Vehicle Inspection = $14.99 (Plus $4.72 in Sales Tax) Austin told me that it would take approximately 1.5 hours to complete the service. Sounds good. I waited in the waiting area and got some reading done. 1.5 Hours later, I got an update about the status of my car. Austin brought me a piece of paper with recommended service totaling over $1600+ which also included two very critical problems: both of my front tires had "severe" damage. One had exterior wall damage with the metal casing exposed (which I was aware of) and the other had a Nail in it on the edge. # The tire with the nail in it To quote Austin, "..That absolutely cannot be fixed because of the location of that nail..". I asked if the tires next door (There was a tire store/company next door) are cheap and he said: "...They have tires, but ours are better and cheaper - we beat their prices every time..". Austin quoted me ~$250 for both replacement tires. Fortunately, I did not have time that day and I declined all recommended service and went on my way. The next day, I stopped by "Discount Tire Company" and one of the guys (Luke) took a look at my tire and said "..Oh yea, we can fix this..". It took them 15 minutes to fix the tire and you know what? They did it free of charge. (I was not even a customer at that location). Guess where I am going for my next set of tires? I'll let you figure that out. Anyway, so why did I bother to write all this out? I'll tell you. It's because as a first time customer at your location, I lost all trust. As someone in the sales and reputation business, this should be your worst nightmare. Here are the two main reasons: 1.) Austin lost my trust by giving me the wrong information on one tire and by proxy, invalidated the entire experience at Firestone. All the "recommended" services mean nothing to me because the source of these recommendations are now tainted and I am forced to get a second opinion from someone else. 2.) Low prices. Right. Synthetic oil change came up to $69.99 -- I visited a couple of places down the street and they charge $49.99 flat for the same thing. So, I even got overcharged for my oil change! There. That's my experience at Firestone - somewhere I won't be visiting anytime soon. Austin seems like a nice guy, but he seems to lack basic salesmanship and integrity. Austin, if you are reading this and you plan on being in the customer service/sales industry in the future, hit up amazon and get a good book on the subject and re-formulate your ideas on what consists salesmanship. People pay millions of dollars to get this type of information from focus groups (including Firestone) - but that's okay, I won't charge you anything. Today was crazy we hit a nail on the freeway and the tire went flat almost immediately! It was scary... we have roadside assistance for Hyundai so they ended up towing us to our dealership which unfortunately was closed because it was a Sunday... thankfully my fiancé is so smart and called firestone... they said we could come in immediately so our tow guy was nice enough to drop us there instead... it was great the man that helped us at the front desk put us in right away and they had our tire fixed within the hour... great service and a nice guy! Brought my car in cuz I had a leak I could hear and this place was the first open place I saw. Tire completely flattened to the rim as I waited in the waiting room. I just watched them drive into the bay on a flat tire and on my rim. Who does that?! Even I know you don't drive a car in a rim. These guys were absolutely amazing. I found a razor blade in my tire yesterday, called these guys up and they immediately booked me an appointment the next morning. Thank goodness these guys were open on Sundays! They took great care of me. My car has Run Flat Tires, which sort of created a problem. No where in the San Diego area had the tire for my car. Dropped my car off there today at 10:45 am for my 11:00am appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. Came back at 3:30pm and my car was not even started yet and was just sitting in the car bay. I was extremely disappointed as I always used Firestone for my vehicle needs when I lived in NorCal. Needless to say I will never be back to a Firestone again. I've been going to firestone on convoy for a misfire on my 1996 Honda and Jeff, Mike and Josh have all been very accommodating during this process. My last experience was today when on of all days a Sunday. I dropped off my car not expecting to see it for a couple days. I needed a new distributor. Where would they get that on a Sunday? Well around 1:00 pm I received a call. I had dropped it off around 10:00 am. Long story short it was done and delivered on time as promised. It runs great. ***BROKE MY BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR CAP and DIDNT TELL ME!*** brought my car in for an oil change and a vehicle inspection. they told me all their concern for the inspections. I told them I didn't have the money to fix anything at the moment. so they put everything back together. I get my car back and about a week goes by and my brakes get soft. they informed me the pads were wearing so i assume it just went fast. I decide to change the pads and rotors. when I got open up my brake fluid reservoir cap and is broken... so it has just been sucking in dirty engine air into the brake system hence why the brakes got soft. I'm not sure on what the training level is but if you cant manage to put a cap on without breaking it maybe you shouldn't have the job. also if you break it and then say eff it and dont inform the customer of your screw up you should definitely not have a job. this would have been an easy 10 dollar fix if just replaced when it was broken. now I'm gonna to end having to bleed and flush the whole system and buy a new cap. costing 20 times that. pretty upsetting. read more

I came in to get my breaks fixed because they were pretty run down, almost down to 2 mm...no good. I called in the morning to make an appointment for 4. Got there and they took me in right away and checked the car out and did a courtesy check. I went to another auto repair shop days earlier to get an oil change and they gave me a long list of "recommended" and "essential" things that I "needed" to get done, totaling around $ 2500. They said I needed a transmission oil flush, a new sepertime belt, brake fluid flush, new cooling system...etc. Anything to get the most $$$ out of me. Told them no thanks, just oil change and left. It was either josh or ryan (I'm sorry!), but the Manager on site was extremely nice and courteous. He was genuinely a nice person, didnt try to upsell me on anything, and held good conversation :) He even stayed an hour and half after (7:30 pm) the shop closed (6 pm) to make sure my car was good to go! He gave me a no bullsh*t run down of what I needed to get done...which were my brakes. Thank you so much other repair shop for trying to rip me off. Firestone even ended up being $250 cheaper just for the brakes!! On top of that, I also got my military discount. Usually I only hear bad things about firestone, but the customer service alone was so excellent that I'm sad I'm moving in a few days, or else this would've been my go to spot! I went in 6/24 for my car overheating. Since I was already there, I asked that change my oil and align my car. They told me they would take a look at it but would not work on it until the following day, 6/26. They found that the reason my car was overheating was a leak in my water pump, so they had to replace my water pump and timing belt. The store manager, Mike, was nice enough to apply a promotion that ended the previous week. It was $100 dollars off of the work. They told me they would have it done by the end of the day and they called me around 5 to tell me that there was a hiccup - they had to redo the work due to a faulty part and they needed to more time to work on my car. Basically it would be available the following day, 6/26, at noon, which I was fine with since work nearby and I would be able to pick up my car on my lunch. I called around noon on 6/26, to check to see if the car was ready and they said they still needed more time (at this point I was getting a little impatient). I let them know that I could not pick up my car until after work and they offered to take care of my Uber ride to the shop. I drove my car home and noticed while on the freeway my car was making a loud humming sound and the steering wheel was vibrating. Something was wrong so I called the following day 6/27 and talked to Mike let him know what was going on. Yes, I went back to the shop again on 6/27. Mike had his technician who worked on my car, Blake, look at it. Per Blake, the wheels were not balanced, which I thought should have been taken care of when they aligned my car. I picked the car up at the end of the day again. The car was still humming, shaking when it is decelerating, and felt like it was dragging. I called them on Friday, 6/29 to communicate what was going on with the car and that I would not be able to take the car back until the following week.   I took the car back on, 7/6. Blake, the technician went for a drive with me so that he could see what the issues were. He told me that it seemed like either a motor mount issue or transmission issue. They did not even want to diagnose and check to see what was actually wrong.  Since they thought it was a transmission issue (and they do not do any transmission work - I thought this was a complete auto care shop???) they referred me to a local transmission shop down the road. I took my car to the transmission shop and they did their inspection free of charge and found that my motor mounts needed to be repaired. I honestly did not want to go back to Firestone because I feel as though if they did a thorough check they would not have missed this. Mike worked with me again since it was my 5th time taking my car to a shop. I was pretty frustrated at this point. I have never taken my car to a shop this much within a 2 week period let alone a year. I have always taken my car to a Firestone without having any issue after any maintenance work or repair. Again, I was very hesitant about the work even though I knew that the motor mounts really needed to be replaced. I was adamant that I did not want Blake to work on my car. Mike told me that Blake was deployed as a Marine (maybe a coincidence?). I was not sure how I felt about that, but he said he would put his senior tech to do the job of inspecting the car and repairing the mounts.   I do not think their customer service was exceptional, as my previous visits were prior to this. Blake, the technician, who was only there for 3 months (which is what he told me), did not produce the best work considering I had to go back to the shop multiple times. When I initially took my car in, I feel like they should have told me about the hiccups as it happened instead of the last hour of the day which lead to me not getting my car back in a timely manner, they fixed the issue I went in there for, but now I feel like my car is not the same with the way it drives. I do recommend that they check their quality control - because it seems like I am not the first person to have the issue of my car feeling like is dragging (per Yelp review). I am definitely not going to be back at this location. Nor will I recommend friends and family to go here. I have been going to Firestone over 10 years now and this is definitely the worst experience I have ever had. read more

Haven't had a single problem with this place. Their service is always stellar and they are very informative and they don't try to push you to get work done if it really isn't necessary. They have also been great about getting me a better deal on the work that I have gotten done on my car. I would recommend getting the lifetime rotation if you buy tires here...totally worth it! I like that this location is near lots of shops and eating places on Convoy...makes it easy to drop the car off and walk to get something to eat or kill time while they get work done. The lobby area is also a nice place to chill while you wait. The hours of operation are great, too, because I can always find a way to get work done on my car. read more

I called and made an appointment the day before I brought my car in for a routine oil change and asked the person on the phone "how long does it usually take" and the person on the phone told me "usually about an hour to 11/2 hour" I dropped my car off at 10am, I get off work at 4pm so I thought they had plenty of time to change the oil on my car. At 3pm I called them to see if the car is done and they told me it won't be done till 6. Really wth have you been doing all day? I have taken both of my vehicles here in the past 6 weeks, and am extremely pleased with the service, and I had the best customer service hands down. Ryan remembered me from my past visit and promptly helped me out, I had 4 tires installed, and an alignment. He kept me in the loop as to the whole maintenance action, he also brought me into the service bay and showed me how far out my alignment was, and went over my options. Ryan and Sam did a great job. Is it possible to give zero stars? Showed up to an empty lobby. Waited at the computer kiosk for several minutes while a staff member was on the computer on the other side of the glass window...vaping none the less. I had to go through the "employee only" doors to request some service. After taking my name and info down, employee said it would be 15-20 minutes to see what the condition of my tire was. 50 minutes later, my car was still parked in the parking spot that I drove into. Went back to the counter and waited 5 minutes with no assistance. Mechanic saw me waiting and said that someone would be with me shortly. Waited another 4-5 minutes and just left. Tire business must be a great in order to let paying customers slip out the door. I work in retail, and demand that our staff gives high quality service and hospitality. All retail staff need to understand the importance of setting the expectation to customers...and if that expectation can't be met, explain the circumstance. Maybe someone called in sick, maybe they just run a lean staff. Just don't let customers have to ask or seek out answers. If I was simply told, hey man, we are low on staff today, it may be an hour before we can even look at your car, I would of said thanks or no thanks, and that be the end of it. In this day and age, everyone is "busy", so value every customers time. Weather it be for a pair of wiper blades or a set of new tires, every customer should be valued. My daughter was on her way out of town when warning light for brakes came on. She pulled into Firestone, never having been there before and it wasn't near the part of San Diego where we live. The gentleman who helped her was Michael. Although they were busy and she had no appointment he got her car in. They checked it out, explained what it was, also that it wasn't urgent, and got her back on the road...and to the event on time. The next day we took the car back to Firestone and had the recommended work done. I want to thank Michael and his team for their help and honesty. Being she was by herself, and in a rush, they could have told her anything was wrong and charged her $$$ for it. But they didn't. I would recommend this shop on their honesty and helpfulness alone. Ive been taking my car to this shop for over a year now and I am always so happy with the service I receive. They are so helpful and nice. I started just getting my oil changes but because of their great customer service I take my car there for all of the maintenance. They are very detailed in explaining exactly what they are going to do to your car and how much it will cost. I feel like they are so honest. Came in for a good $20 synthetic oil change and was a little busy, got in at 1145 and was told it would "be ready no later than 1pm" went to lunch at sushi deli 3 and came back at 1:05 ... Sat in the waiting room until 140 and saw them park my car and asked if it was ready and that they said it would be ready no later than 1... I'm really disappointed in the amount of time it took for the oil change, the service was good but I've waisted a lot of valuable time, I understand that they can't always quote an accurate time, but if they knew it would take so long, I would have rather known so I could go elsewhere.... I have heard of good reviews on this location, but will most likely not be back. I had tires shipped to this location from an tirereck because they were a preferred installer. The tires sat at the shop for a week and they never even let me know they had them. I called and checked up on the situation and scheduled an appointment to get the tires installed. It took me 20 min to even speak to someone when I arrived for my appointment, and 3 hours later my install isn't done after them saying "it won't take more than an hour tops". Also, they didn't match their advertised pricing through the tirerack website..... Step it up Firestone. read more

I am extremely happy with the quality of work and the service that I received here. I stopped in because I wanted to get a second opinion on a quote from another shop. Ryan was very friendly and wound up coming in $500 cheaper than the shop I had previously come from. They let me look under the car while it was on the lift. Nobody does that! Great service. They are open on SUNDAY! Nobody is open on Sunday! It is is comforting knowing I have somewhere to go where I won't be ripped off or sold unnecessary crap, and the service staff is attentive and helpful. Nice job guys. read more

I called and described the issue with the temporary patch on my tire needing to be replaced with a permanent patch. They lady said it was not a problem and they could get that taken care of so just bring it in. They weren't busy and quoted 45 min. An hour and a half later I asked about an update and they had not even taken the car back. Then she said they wouldn't patch it because it had been plugged with a temporary even though she told me they could replace it when I called. She shrugged and said yeah, sorry. That's Firestone policy. I reminded her of the conversation we had on the phone and that she should have told me when I called. She just said oh, yeah sorry about that. After wasting my morning, she and the mechanic were laughing as they watched me drive off. It was a pretty gross and rude experience. Save your money and go somewhere that will pay attention to your needs as a customer. read more

At my recent oil change a couple weeks ago, my car key stopped working. It was a random fluke event, but the manage Mike Toledo and his team did such an amazing job helping me get to the bottom of the problem! They helped me get a rental car and had my car towed to the dealer in the morning to get a new key made, all on their dime. Wow! Mike was so friendly and kind about the whole situation, saying he has never seen that happen before, but did everything he could to fix it and even though it was an inconvenience to me, I ultimately drove away happy (and with an oil change!) They never fix your flat tire but want you to buy a new set of tire while you can run another 20k miles without any problem. I went there for an oil change yesterday, and it costs $60 for synthetic oil after coupon, 15 dollars more than Toyota dealer. I went straight back to the door. Considering price and service, there are other better places than FS. Do a little research for auto care, and you don't waste your time dealing with such nightmares again. read more
