Firestone Grill is a casual eatery in San Luis Obispo known for its tri tip sandwiches and burgers. You order at the counter and pick-up your food at the counter. There's indoor seating and outdoor covered patio seating as well. The portions are good for sharing and the prices are reasonable for the area. Overall, the food is pretty average bar food, but can be saved by the sauces on the side. The chipotle chicken sandwich tasted bland and was messy to eat, but paired well with the onion rings and fries. I'd recommend this place for a big group looking to eat a casual meal family style.

This spot got recommended by a local and oh my wow! It is so good! There was a line to order but we actually went past the line and inside to grab a table and they take your order. We sat at the bar first and we had to wait a bit for a table to free up. Once we did, the lovely waitress came and took our drink orders. The drinks came shortly after and then she took our order. I had their tri-tip sandwich and omg! I totally recommend it! The bbq sauce was gold! Their fries were so good too. Not oily at all! There were TVs everywhere, of course is loud in there so it was hard to converse but overall the ambiance was lively and the food delicious. Totally recommend this spot.

Had an awesome family lunch here, really great BBQ, definitely a family favorite. Nice outdoor seating, first come first serve so get there fast! Inside is cool, lots of memorabilia to check out.

Ordered our food and went to grab a drink from the bar. Both bartenders made eye contact with us sitting at the bar top but no one helped us for about 10 minutes, then our food was ready. We wanted to sit outside, so we took our food out there and now had nothing to drink with our food which is super frustrating. Food came out super quick, and it was SO yummy. (but I was thirsty) Lovely outdoor seating area. Tables are wiped down pretty frequently. I watched people from the table next to us go inside to grab a drink, took them about 20 minutes to come back with two beers. On a Wednesday!!

One of our favorite stops in SLO. Went for dinner on a Saturday night and the line to order was out the door with indoor and outdoor seating full. Found seating quickly though by having one of our party search while the rest stood in line to order. Ordered burgers, tri tip sandwiches and a tri tip salad with a large basket of fries and onion rings. They don't skimp on portions (see picture of the salad)... we struggled to finish all of our dishes! I got a taste of all the burgers and sandwiches and enjoyed all the bites. My tri tip salad had bell peppers, tomatoes, a little too many red o ions, spring mix and a vinaigrette dressing. Every bite had tri tip with it. Definitely a good place to go for a casual dinner. It's loud inside but that's expected with so many patrons cycling through. Staff is friendly and helpful. Will keep coming back whenever we're in town!

I use to really like this place but recently came back for a visit and honestly not that great anymore. The tri tip sandwich was try and tough and not flavorful enough. I also had the ribs and they're also a bit tough and needed more sauce. Really enjoyed the beans actually but I brought my boyfriend here as it was his first time and he was also not impressed.

Whenever I visit my sister at Cal Poly we make it a point to come here for the best tri tip sandwich ever. Long lines, even during the week but it is so worth it. Theres plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The ribs and burgers are also good but the tri-tip sandwich is the must try.

I didn't realize that there were so many restaurants that now require a reservation...so we opted for a quick lunch at Firestone Grill. We've been to other Firestone restaurants in SoCal, but this was my first visit to this one. This place was super crowded and loud (we were crunched for time) but luckily we were able to find a table in the bar area where it was bit less chaotic. This is a "fast-food" style ordering process, so do yourself a favor and find a seat before ordering so you're not wandering around looking for a seat afterwards. My wife and I both ordered the tri-tip sandwich with a side of French fries and shared onion rings. I'll hand it to them, as busy as they were they get orders out very quickly. The tri-tip was just so-so for me. It didn't have a lot of flavor, and while it was moist it wasn't very tender, even rather tough. The bread was soft and warm though. The French fries and onions were both very tasty and delicious. Glad that Firestone came through as a solid backup.

The only reason I come to San Luis Obispo these days. The tri tip sandwich is still one of the best I've had. There's always a line, no matter what time you come. However, the order comes out very quickly. The staff has a very streamlined system to get everyone fed. There's indoor seating and a big outdoor patio seating (perfect for those with dogs). If you need extra BBQ sauce, that have them in to go containers. Water is self serve and bathrooms are on the right. Found Street parking each time I came.

An absolute must-try in SLO, the BBQ is one of the best I've ever had! We ordered online to pick up the food but we were really hungry so we ended up eating at the restaurant. There's a lot of seating inside and outside the restaurant and there's big tables for larger parties. Items ordered: - Tri-Tip Sandwich (5/5): Omg this tri-tip sandwich is one of the best I've ever had. The meat is so tender and not super chewy. Right amount of BBQ sauce so it doesn't make the flavor too overwhelming. Definitely try it if it's your first time here. - Monster Burger (5/5): Can't believe this burger is less than $10 because it's huge! Great flavor, comes with a lot of lettuce and cheese. - Fries (5/5): Great side with the sandwich and burger. - Onion Rings (4/5): Large onion rings, very crispy. 11/10 would come back again!

We on vacation in the area found this place on yelp. There's a lot of street parking and located in the center of a lot of shopping. They have a huge open outside area with a ton of Hester's everywhere. We went on a Friday night so it was very busy but they were properly staffed. The menu is really big so anyone can see it. The things were reasonably priced. The food comes out fast you go and get it at the counter. The Cesar salad was okay . My son loved the hot dog. My husband liked his sandwich. Overall a great place to come get lunch or dinner.

I love this place so much! Always worth a stop if you're in slo! Plenty of seating inside and outside and food comes out fast. Tri tip sandwich: 11/10 Pulled pork sandwich:11/10 Bbq sauce and ranch are amazing. Fries: 11/10 YOU MUST GET THESE FRIES! Everything is delicious!

Very cool bar with the best Tri Tip Sandwich I ever tasted! The fries were also really good - crispy and thin Service was pretty fast and its super busy but seats are available inside and outside! Their outside seating is large with heaters to keep you warm! Inside can be quite loud but very good vibe for sports or hanging out!

    Do you take reservations?

No reservations, you order first then seating is first come first serve

I am wanting to take my daughter there but she has food allergies to egg, dairy, and nuts. Does anyone know if their buns/rolls have egg and if their fries are in a dedicated frier? I tried calling but there is no way to talk to a live person.

I wouldn't take the chance here, it's definitely not an allergy-friendly environment.

I want to place a large order - how do I order in advance? The message machine says to go online, but online only allows for ASAP pickup. Can I order in advance?

What is the best number to call, tried getting through on the phone number listed above but it goes to an answering machine?

Last time I was there they told me they don't take orders online anymore . Hence no one picks up

Is the bbq sauce gluten free?

I am gluten sensitive, and sadly I think the answer to your question is No. hope this helps. If you need it to be I might call and ask also might want to think about what meat your choosing is it marinated, like in soy sauce? And is it gluten free.… Read more

Hi, is there outdoor seating so we can bring our dogs? (They are NOT service animals)

Yes, there is a big outdoor seating area at the very corner.

Is there a separate fryer for fries? Reviews say the fries are gluten free but no mention of cross contamination with fryers. I tried to call but they must be super busy and can't make it to the phone.

    Sorry I don't know.

Do they sell their bbq sauce?

Pretty sure no. I have been there numerous times and don't see it as being available in the area where you can purchase t shirts, etc.

Is it open in Christmas Day?

    Unfortunately, no.

    Is it dog friendly?

    Outside patio area only

    Are there gluten free options?

I love getting the Tri-Tip Sandwich wrapped in lettuce! Such a great way to go GF. My favorite way to get around this issue is by adding a few fries and a whole bunch 'o BBQ sauce to the makeshift sandwich!

Is this restaurant "safe" for someone with a severe peanut allergy?

Yes. I have never seen a peanut here.

Parking is pretty bad especially during peak hours so expect to circle around multiple times or find street parking elsewhere. We ordered: -Bee Stang, Detroit style (5/5): Despite the name the honey wasn't too pronounced - it was mainly the spice. This is a pretty garlicky pizza and the ricotta texture and taste was on point. The thick and crispy crust of the style was also a standout for us. This was my favorite of the 2. - Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza, Neapolitan style (4/5): My bf's favorite pizza of the 2. Love the thin crust and flavor which was distinctly meaty with tomato sauce to cut through. It could have used more toppings for the price and it was also slightly burnt on the edges of some of the crust so we couldn't enjoy it fully. Also the slices weren't evenly cut through but luckily it was easy to split it apart. Overall very enjoyable meal and a nice date night vibe inside. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Once…read moreupon a time, I saw this restaurant be featured on the iconic Check Please, so needless to say the award winning food speaks for itself and I was ready for this experience. I came into Novo with high expectations and my expectations were exceeded. Calamari: Who doesn't want Calamari on the Central Coast, for me it's a must. But can we take a moment to complement the sauces they pair with the calamari. Novo's calamari is paired with a tartar sauce and a sweet chili sauce. Definitely a first experience for me and I was beyond impressed. My taste buds danced because, whoever, is out here making many and flavor pairings for Novo has unlocked a new game mode for me. If you ever are wondering what appetizer to try, this right here is my first recommendation. Blackberry Ginger Cooler: The mocktail was beautiful and also a great pairing. I would love to try their other drinks soon. Matcha Strawberry Trifle: My mom, sisters, and I agreed on this dessert and let me tell you, I'm so glad we did. The matcha trifle had so much goodness to it we spent time trying to guess what flavors were in its profile. Think a berry chantilly from Whole Foods, but with matcha flavor and so fresh! Immediately after finishing my little sister said I had to learn to make this specific dessert and needless to say I don't disagree. It was balanced in sweetness, very light, and a great summer dessert. King Salmon: 2 please! The king salmon comes with Tabbouleh and green beans. This dish was my mom's and she was very pleased. One part of food I enjoy is not just the eating and experience, it's the aspect of reminisce in the flavors, analysis of the cooking, and trying to gauge cooking technique. For this dish, the salmon was perfectly cooked and it is not what we expected in the best way possible. This dish had so many different flavor profiles and wait until you taste the added kick of wasabi. Can I get another round? Korean Short Ribs: When I first saw this on the menu I was struck with asking myself how this dish might taste. It was one of those dishes where I thought, I have had plenty of short rib, I have had kimchi, but I have never seen them on one plate. More than that, I was hesitant as I like kimchi but not my to go to choice, nonetheless, I was drawn to this dish so of course I ordered it. Wow! Was I glad I did. My sister had the same order and we agreed the kimchi had such a nice kick to it. The spare rib was also thinly sliced making this dish easy and yummy. Now don't let that kick of heat scare you, I encourage everyone to try this dish. The rice sort of acts as a contrasting agent to help tone down the flavor and you just have to try it all together. All that said, I think service was awesome, then again SLO is a beautiful heart in California. But seriously we had an awesome waiter who shared with me the history of the restaurant. The story is also on their menu, but Nova's little sister restaurant is Red Luna and the big sister restaurant is Robin's Restaurant in Cambria. So good to know because I can now see how all this deliciousness connects! Big fan of these places and it's great to know they are one family. I don't think I have a favorite sibling of the three, but here's to another 5 stars for the middle child.
