Firestone Tri-Tip Sandwich and side of Onion Rings
    Merlissa A.

Firestone Grill has the best tri- tip sandwiches! The cut of the tritip is cut perfectly and juicy especially with the barbecue sauce! Anyone I have met that has gone to SLO can't rave enough about Firestone tri-tip sandwiches! The bread is buttery and soft, and the tri tip paired with it is just perfect! It definitely fills you up! This was my second time coming to Firestone and I think coming here now is an absolute must when in the area. The service was quick, workers are friendly, and the vibe of the popularity of this place with plenty of seating is a win! Not to mention, after eating here ya gotta go out and do some shopping around!

Dropped by for a quick bite to eat since our friend recommended trying out the tri-tip sandwich and I get the hype! Firestone Grill was massive. Lots of seating outside and inside although it was a bit noisy inside due to the game going on but we were able to order our food pretty quickly and get it quickly as well. I'm not a huge fan of tri-tip sandwiches but the one they have here is pretty good. The tri-tip is perfectly cooked, the bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the flavor was really nice. The fries were pretty good as well but pretty standard fries. I would recommend dropping by if you're in the area. The price is decent and the food portions are massive!

Came here twice in 2 days because the tri-tip sandwich is so good. The bread is fresh, complementing the tender and lean meat well. It's hearty. I've also had the salad and fries which are alright. The inside feels like a sports bar. Service is fine.

What an establishment! The tri-tip sandwich was delicious and a great value for the price. They definitely load on the tri tip. I also got the fries and a side of garlic bread. The fries were too salty for my taste, but everything else was really good. The burgers looked amazing too, and they were about half the price of the tri-tip sandwich, so I'll definitely be trying one next time. The line can get pretty long, but they move people through surprisingly fast. There's also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so it never felt too crowded. Definitely worth the stop!

Went here for some needed grub after my granddaughter was born! Got the Cobb salad with carnitas and it was huge and delicious! My wife got the pig sandwich and we split onion rings. Her sandwich was just the right amount of bbq sauce and delicious pork! The rings were good too! Enjoyed a couple of draft beers and watched little baseball and toasted our newest family member! Service was friendly and fast- bartender was pumped about our news! It's a bustling place but lots of seating at bar, tables and their big outdoor covered patio. We Will be back!

This was highly recommended by a local as a great, casual dining spot. The meat is cooked to perfection--tender, tasty, and lean. We were thrilled. The prices are reasonable and the happy hour is a must.

We took a trip down to SLO for the three day weekend and my friend recommended trying Santa Maria BBQ. When we arrived, there was a line out the door and once we got in, we could immediately see why! They had a huge menu with very inexpensive offerings. Most burgers were under $10, which is rare these days. While I usually wish fries were included with the meal, I didn't mind because they had two sizes for $3 and $6, and they were both HUGE! The burgers were big too and very good. Definitely a hidden gem. Despite the long line, our food came out quickly. Everything was so good!

On the last day in San Luis Obispo, we heard great things about the bbq here and a lot of locals had recommended this restaurant. We ordered the tri tip sandwich, pulled pork sandwich and the fries. The pulled pork sandwich was actually phenomenal and I am craving it right now as I am talking about it. The amount of flavor that this sandwich had was truly unbelievable. However, the tri tip sandwich was pretty average to me and nothing spectacular. The fries were actually really good as well, one of my favorite fries that I've had. The young lady taking out was very sweet and kind, truly appreciated her for explaining the menu to us. However the guys handing out the meal, especially one with a chain thought he was all macho and cool and tuff, I don't know why they have him there if he going to be acting like that. But I guess he's like that with the guys and he's all kind to the girls. The inside of the restaurant gave the vibe of a bar, seemed like you can sit down and watch some sports

I can definitely see why this place is so popular. The service is fast, straightforward, and the food gives you a lot for the price. We ordered the famous tri-tip sandwich, the Firebird, and a half-and-half basket of fries and onion rings. To be honest, we were both a little disappointed by the tri-tip sandwich. They give you a generous amount of meat, but the flavor was milder than expected, and the meat itself was slightly tough, which made the sandwich less enjoyable overall. The Firebird, on the other hand, was unexpectedly delicious. It is basically two chicken tenders in sandwich form, but the fresh toppings and Thousand Island dressing brought everything together perfectly. The true star, though, was the fries and onion rings. Seriously, just get them. We had not planned to order them, but the cashier convinced us and guaranteed we would not regret it--and he was absolutely right. The fries were definitely on the salty side, but in the best possible way. The onion rings were my personal favorite and easily the winner of the meal. What's not to like?--great value, quick service, and comfort food done right.

This spot got recommended by a local and oh my wow! It is so good! There was a line to order but we actually went past the line and inside to grab a table and they take your order. We sat at the bar first and we had to wait a bit for a table to free up. Once we did, the lovely waitress came and took our drink orders. The drinks came shortly after and then she took our order. I had their tri-tip sandwich and omg! I totally recommend it! The bbq sauce was gold! Their fries were so good too. Not oily at all! There were TVs everywhere, of course is loud in there so it was hard to converse but overall the ambiance was lively and the food delicious. Totally recommend this spot.

Tried this place again. After many years, they still offer good tri-tip sandwich. And there was a long line as usual. Prices gone up a little, which is normal. Still a very popular place. And tri-tip still tasted good.

Had an awesome family lunch here, really great BBQ, definitely a family favorite. Nice outdoor seating, first come first serve so get there fast! Inside is cool, lots of memorabilia to check out.

Ordered our food and went to grab a drink from the bar. Both bartenders made eye contact with us sitting at the bar top but no one helped us for about 10 minutes, then our food was ready. We wanted to sit outside, so we took our food out there and now had nothing to drink with our food which is super frustrating. Food came out super quick, and it was SO yummy. (but I was thirsty) Lovely outdoor seating area. Tables are wiped down pretty frequently. I watched people from the table next to us go inside to grab a drink, took them about 20 minutes to come back with two beers. On a Wednesday!!

    Do you take reservations?

No reservations, you order first then seating is first come first serve

I am wanting to take my daughter there but she has food allergies to egg, dairy, and nuts. Does anyone know if their buns/rolls have egg and if their fries are in a dedicated frier? I tried calling but there is no way to talk to a live person.

I wouldn't take the chance here, it's definitely not an allergy-friendly environment.

I want to place a large order - how do I order in advance? The message machine says to go online, but online only allows for ASAP pickup. Can I order in advance?

What is the best number to call, tried getting through on the phone number listed above but it goes to an answering machine?

Last time I was there they told me they don't take orders online anymore . Hence no one picks up

Is the bbq sauce gluten free?

I am gluten sensitive, and sadly I think the answer to your question is No. hope this helps. If you need it to be I might call and ask also might want to think about what meat your choosing is it marinated, like in soy sauce? And is it gluten free.…

Hi, is there outdoor seating so we can bring our dogs? (They are NOT service animals)

Yes, there is a big outdoor seating area at the very corner.

Is there a separate fryer for fries? Reviews say the fries are gluten free but no mention of cross contamination with fryers. I tried to call but they must be super busy and can't make it to the phone.

    Sorry I don't know.

Do they sell their bbq sauce?

Pretty sure no. I have been there numerous times and don't see it as being available in the area where you can purchase t shirts, etc.

Is it open in Christmas Day?

    Unfortunately, no.

    Is it dog friendly?

    Outside patio area only

    Are there gluten free options?

I love getting the Tri-Tip Sandwich wrapped in lettuce! Such a great way to go GF. My favorite way to get around this issue is by adding a few fries and a whole bunch 'o BBQ sauce to the makeshift sandwich!

Is this restaurant "safe" for someone with a severe peanut allergy?

Yes. I have never seen a peanut here.

I opted to do a trio with the bahn mi, tip o' Argentina, and the garlic fries. The food was good I forgot to take a picture! The tip o' Argentina was solid with the garlic aioli and the chimmichurri perfectly complimenting the steak and the lettuce and tomato adding a little bit of freshness. The buns they use for all of their sliders are soft, slightly sweet, and don't fall apart while you're eating. The Bahn Mi was even better. I love pork but was a little skeptical about pulled pork on a slider riffing on the flavors of a bahn mi. To my surprise and delight, it tasted just like grilled Vietnamese pork, which was perfectly complimented by the fresh and pickled veggies and surprisingly hot jalapeño. Finally, I got the garlic fries which were a massive portion, crisp, and very garlicky. Everything was good and with such a large and customizable menu, I'd definitely return if I was in the area again. I also want to give a shout out to the bartender, Kelsey. I sat at the bar and her service was attentive and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. I got a Gouda Burger, the summer crunch salad, and garlic fries. My wife and kid also had a slider but did Italian Sprouts, mac and cheese with bacon, and sweet potato fries. The slider was good- tasty but a little messy to eat. Both servings of fries were really generous. The salad was a good mix of ingredients. However the mac and brussels sprouts were a bit disappointing. For some there is no such thing as too much bacon but for us both of these dishes definitely had too much bacon- so much that we left a lot of the bacon! And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my bacon. Overall, a good concept but we'll definitely try some non bacon dishes next time!
