Sweet Potato Fries - these are GReAT

My in-laws have the SLO Eats app and Old SLO BBQ is on the list so we decided to go there to take advantage of the great deals(buy one get one free or free side with purchase). Inside they have an arcade machine, TVs playing sports, and a self serve beer station. We did ToGo and my wife LOvED her burger. The sweet potato fries were the star of the show. My tri tip sandy contained HUGe slices of meat and they took into consideration my dairy allergy by not putting butter on the bread. The regular fries I wouldn't get again. I still think if you are in SLO and want a tri tip sandy you need to go to Firestone. If the line is too long or not close by; then would hit up Old SLO BBQ which is also more affordable(especially with the SLO Eats app which you can get a 2 week free trial). I'm not affiliated with SLOEats, but I really do think it is worth the download.

I get there, person at the register doesn't even say hi after staring at the menu for about 3 minutes. Ordered the chicken, tri tip and rib plate. Absolutely dog s#!t. Cigarettes taste better. I should have just gotten my ribs from Costco. Seems the only thing good was the sauce.

Visited this place based on some of the reviews and even a local recommendation and let me say I was deeply disappointed. I will start my review like this. When the garlic bread is the best part of the meal in bbq restaurant you know the bbq needs improvement. I'm from Texas so I know what bbq should be and taste like. The ribs were fatty and hard to eat with the amount of fat and what appeared not to be cooked all the way. The beans were basically like they opened a can of pork and beans and added a little bit spices and tried to make them like chili beans and that was a fail in my eyes. The service was rather dry by the gentleman at the counter and the ambiance was nice with a good indoor/outdoor set up they have. I certainly will not eat here again and honestly don't know how others eat the ribs. Unless it was a bad day, but this bbq is just not for me knowing what true bbq should really be

If you're anywhere near San Luis Obispo and don't stop at Old SLO BBQ, you're doing it wrong. The baby back ribs are next-level -- fall-off-the-bone tender with just the right amount of smoke. No gimmicks, just real wood-fired flavor that speaks for itself. Pair that with their Santa Maria-style beans, and you've got a meal that sticks with you (in the best way). Those beans are smoky, hearty, and taste like they've been slow-cooked with actual care -- not dumped out of a can. And then there's the tap list. Local craft beers, rotating seasonal picks, and classics that actually complement barbecue instead of fighting it. Pro move: order a flight, settle in, and let the ribs do their thing. Fast service, good vibes, no frills -- just excellent food done right.

Candy, bacon slider, and a chocolate bacon milkshake!

I needed a snack so I stopped in! Candy bacon tri-tip slider was sooo good! Chocolate bacon, milkshake was absolutely amazing and a great choice! This was the best BBQ place I have been to in a longtime a true culinary treat! I can't wait to come back!

Some of our meal, it does not all show or show clearly.

Friday afternoon we stopped in for a late lunch / early dinner after a doctor's appointment in the City of San Luis Obispo, CA. Best Sweet Potato Fries we have ever had. The Pulled Pork Sandwich was excellent too! We also shared a Cowboy Corn Pie side. I had a Chocolate Milk Shake and my wife a TAP Beer. It is right on HWY 226 in the Vons shopping mall. They do catering as well.

One star cause the smash burger was eatable but not worth the price. A very lack luster kinda place.

The portions are great, the food is affordable, and everything comes out fresh and delicious. The service is also consistently amazing and everyone is friendly and helpful, and they keep things moving even when it's busy. For the quality of the food and the prices, you really can't go wrong. If you're visiting San Luis Obispo and want a casual spot with amazing tri-tip that won't break the bank, Firestone Grill is a must. Definitely one of my go-to places every time I'm in SLO! Plenty of space to sit but will be busy!

The sandwiches were yummy, (only complaint is that they could use a bit more sauce/flavor). The onion rings were yummy, can't go wrong with onion rings. I'm more irritated about the service we received from the cashier. I was in the process of ordering and it was my first time here, received lots of unnecessary attitude from the cashier and felt rushed. We were still deciding and the cashier had already charged us, and when we asked if she can add it on, she made a face at us and said "it's charged already? It's done" so we had to do a separate charge. That experience left us feeling sour, and we definitely won't be returning.

I opted to do a trio with the bahn mi, tip o' Argentina, and the garlic fries. The food was good I forgot to take a picture! The tip o' Argentina was solid with the garlic aioli and the chimmichurri perfectly complimenting the steak and the lettuce and tomato adding a little bit of freshness. The buns they use for all of their sliders are soft, slightly sweet, and don't fall apart while you're eating. The Bahn Mi was even better. I love pork but was a little skeptical about pulled pork on a slider riffing on the flavors of a bahn mi. To my surprise and delight, it tasted just like grilled Vietnamese pork, which was perfectly complimented by the fresh and pickled veggies and surprisingly hot jalapeño. Finally, I got the garlic fries which were a massive portion, crisp, and very garlicky. Everything was good and with such a large and customizable menu, I'd definitely return if I was in the area again. I also want to give a shout out to the bartender, Kelsey. I sat at the bar and her service was attentive and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. We got the opportunity to chat for a bit and I loved her vibe, so definitely consider sitting at the bar if you're dining solo or with a friend.

It is a bit off the beaten path I thought, in a seemingly industrial area and parking was hard to find at 12:30 on a Monday. We had to go down the street and around the corner since the lot was full. I got a Gouda Burger, the summer crunch salad, and garlic fries. My wife and kid also had a slider but did Italian Sprouts, mac and cheese with bacon, and sweet potato fries. The slider was good- tasty but a little messy to eat. Both servings of fries were really generous. The salad was a good mix of ingredients. However the mac and brussels sprouts were a bit disappointing. For some there is no such thing as too much bacon but for us both of these dishes definitely had too much bacon- so much that we left a lot of the bacon! And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my bacon. Overall, a good concept but we'll definitely try some non bacon dishes next time!
