    Magherita pizza w/Prosciutto
    Michele C.

Stopped in for dinner this evening. Restaurant wasn't very busy when we got there. We were immediately greeted by a server as we were seated at a booth. Booth was very uncomfortable, didn't have much room if you're not a thin person. We opted to move to the bar. Service was very good. The bartender, server and the person delivering the food were very attentive. The restaurant was very clean. We ordered the pretzel bites from the happy hour menu and a medium magherita pizza with prosciutto added. The pizza was way too saucy and the sauce was sweet. The prosciutto was very tough I think because it wasn't cut thin enough. The pretzel bites were good but small and in my opinion overpriced at $7. Yeah... $15.50 for a tall Tito's that I didn't ask for is absolutely egregious! Will never return.

Food and drinks were delicious. They gave us complimentary bread even though they knew we were dining in for happy hour which was nice. The bread was soooo good and garlicky. Meatball was delicious and very flavorful, as was the pizza. Taking off one star because service was very bad. It took 20-30 minutes after we were done eating to get our check. However, this was the week before Christmas so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt

    Stuffed eggplant

I have eaten here 30 times. The pizza is excellent and most dishes are amazing, but last night I asked for a Negroni and they charged me $18.50 for it. I haven't paid that much for this standard cocktail in my life, not even NYC. This was not a special request. I didn't make any requests regarding gin etc. just said "Negroni." A large pie was $20, stuffed eggplant was $20 and Negroni 18.50, club soda with lime. Our check $71. $15 tip. $86. 2 people. No appetizers at a "tavern." Man, things have gotten out of control.

The First and Last Tavern franchise has four locations in the greater Hartford area, and today we visited our third one. We had lunch at Glastonbury's First and Last and it was a pleasant meal in a familiar setting. The booths, the paneling, the bar, the bread basket, and the menu all rang true. Maybe this dining room is a lot smaller than the cavernous one at our home base in Avon, but Avon is a lot darker because they don't have nearly as many windows and natural light as Glastonbury did. We ordered an Antipasto salad $10.75) and a Margherita pizza with prosciutto ($21.45). A club soda with an unsolicited refill was a reasonable $2.95. The Antipasto was great. A big portion of all sorts of goodies -chickpeas, pepperoncinis, onions, tomatoes, marinated peppers, olives, a ton of salami and prosciutto, half a hard boiled egg, all piled high on cold fresh lettuce. No quarrels with the pizza either - it was big, stacked with toppings, great sauce and cheese on a thin crust. Two thirds of this haul came home with us, so we will easily have four (or more portions) for the $32 food cost. So having visited First and Last in Glastonbury, Plainville and Avon, we just need to patronize Hartford to have seen them all.

This is my first time here! I'm not used to "pub" food. Here is there mission statement: "Since 1936, First & Last Tavern has been connecting with local communities through food, service, and ambiance. We aim for high quality food and service in a comfortable tavern setting. Our Italian accented menu features many classics such as pizza, panini, and pasta, along with salads, burgers, wings, and more. All of our restaurants are family run which allows us to engage with our guests and continually tailor the menu to what they want. Our goal is to get to know you, improve ourselves every day, and exceed your expectations." I've been told today that my cholesterol is high so I need to be mindful of what I'm eating now (less red meat , cheese, etc). My blood pressure appears to be normal. This is a busy place. It could use some music . It's really quiet in here except for the screaming kids (right near the bar). They have Happy Hour 3-6 M-F. The menu looks food and I did notice one very unique item - a "fried sausage" grinder. I've never heard of frying sausages. For my first drink , I'm having "The Boss" which is house bourbon (Old Crow? What is that?), sweet vermouth and bitters served up/neat (martini ) or on the rocks . It's garnished with two maraschino cherries on a skewer. That's odd. I've been here a half hour now (and have a drink so that's good ), but the bartender has not asked me if I want anything to eat. The bar crowd appears to be very "seasoned" as well (at 55 years old, I am by far the youngest at this bar). The drink is pretty decent I'll give them that. Old Crow is a low-priced brand of Kentucky-made straight bourbon whiskey distilled by Beam Suntory, which also produces Jim Beam and several other brands of whiskey . The current Old Crow product uses the same mash bill and yeast as Jim Beam, but is aged for a shorter period of time. It tastes like Jim Beam; not my favorite, but it's drinkable. For my first food item (half hour later I was asked), I am having 5 Bluepoint oysters . Blue Point Oysters have largely become a generic name for oysters harvested from multiple locations anywhere in the Long Island Sound in the New York & Connecticut oyster region. The result is that the flavor & brininess is all over the spectrum, from boring to quite good. They are a Bottom Cultured Oyster . Yummy ! These are pretty big. For my next item, I'm having a "Chopped Salad " made with chopped "veggies", iceberg and romaine , champagne vinaigrette dressing and crumbled blue cheese (half for me). I'm not sure this is "half" the blue cheese but it is what it is. It is pretty good . Colorful. Includes carrots red peppers and asparagus (?; an unusual ingredient in a salad ). They use ceramic plates, disposable napkins and metal utensils . Music finally playing at 5:15 PM. The couple to my right only had one seat to sit in so three of us moved over to make room. We're all in this together so be courteous! For my next drink , I'm having "The Executive" made with house vodka, olive juice, Three Olives Vodka and is served up (martini ). This is tasty ! These martinis are both $6 so you can't go wrong with the price. Not bad. Not very dirty but it has bite. For my entrée, I'm having the "Chicken Marengo" which is boneless breast of chicken , tomatoes , mushrooms , lemon and roasted potatoes . Chicken Marengo is an Italian dish consisting of a chicken sautéed in oil with garlic and tomato, garnished with fried eggs and crayfish. The dish is similar to chicken à la Provençale, but with the addition of egg and crayfish, which are traditional to Chicken Marengo but are now often omitted. This is damn good ! My complements to the chef ‍! What's there to eat around here? I'm starving! I literally ate and drank more than the couple next to me! Why didn't I get the complementary bread ?! No more alcohol tonight. For my next drink, I'm having a "fresh squeezed lemonade." I haven't had this in years! Nice lemon garnish. Not bad. Not too strong or "lemony" . Two guys next to me ordered Old Fashioneds. Let's see what happens. Oh boy . Not good . Lots of ice cubes. Too much liquid. For dessert , I'm having their "Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting." Wow ! This is good ! It's a big slab. Unique taste I love the cream cheese frosting. Strange how they serve it with a spoon . I like the sugar powder sprinkled about. I asked them to microwave it a bit to soften up the frosting which they did! For my final drink, I'm having an espresso. A nice meal if I do say so!

I don't always show it, but I appreciate the longtime classic area restaurants that were doing things better than most places long before the TV/Internet/Social Media Food Boom helped set the stage for modern food prodigies being able to more easily learn their crafts. The Rein's Deli Reuben. Pho 501's Pho with Tai Chin. And First and Last Tavern's Eggplant Pizza. I recently ordered F&L's Eggplant Pizza via DoorDash, and my order was fulfilled by the Glastonbury F&L. However, I'm really going to focus on the whole F&L Brand. F&L is not currently one of my favorite places to get pizza. However, it is the area pizza restaurant that I am most fond of because of 20+ years of workday meetings with F&L pizza, and the dinners with friends and date nights with my wife at the OG Hartford location. And F&L's Eggplant pie has long been one of my favorite area specialty pizzas. F&L's Eggplant Pizza is topped with breaded and fried, thin, full-circle, slices of eggplant cutlets, mozzarella, ricotta, basil and sauce. Think Eggplant Parm on top of a good pizza crust. I don't frequently order eggplant pizza at other pizza places, but when I do, I never like it as well as F&L's. As I do with all DoorDash deliveries, I'm grading this Eggplant Pizza on a slight curve since it has to withstand the delivery process. The pizza definitely loses its peak without the gooey cheese that exists when they pull it from the oven, but it's still a darn good pizza. The eggplant seems to cover more than half the pizza, and the ingredients compliment each other very well. I photographed the pizza after I lifted the lid and you can see that most of the juices had settled at that point. That's what happens when you order pizza delivery two towns over. I will say that it didn't seem to be cooked evenly throughout for some reason. Many bites were trademark crispy/good chewy, but some were a bit doughier. While I typically like F&L pizza and grinders, I generally am less fond of their entrees at the various locations. In this regard, I ordered a sausage and meatball app as well. The sauce (which seems like F&L's long time red sauce) is below average for me. The meatball and sausage were both average. 4 Stars for the Eggplant Pizza. 2.5 Stars for the sausage and meatball App. I landed at 3 Stars overall, but I will continue to order the Eggplant Pizza occasionally. On a final note, if anybody at F&L reads this, PLEASE bring back the Bakery Cafe!!!!!

Stopped in First and Last in Glastonbury after I went to pick up my car at Monaco Ford right down the street. The locals said it was a great place to get a bite to eat. Restaurant is in an area that has other entertainment and restaurants in their downtown area. Cute restaurant with just the right vibe for casual dining. They have loads of booths and tables. We sat at a booth. First and Last has brick oven pizza, burgers, grinders, every kind of pasta entrée you can think of, family dinners, panini, salads, house made desserts, and a great lunch menu. Something for everyone. A big basket of seasoned bread came to the table. Pretty good. I chose the Chicken Milanese which comes with a panko breaded cutlet, greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, and cheese shavings in a lemon dressing. Very good. Hubby got the Chicken Parmesan which he said was good. Decent amount of pasta with the chicken. All in all a decent place to get a bite to eat.

Came here before an event nearby and was pleasantly surprised but our meal, especially given the current 3-stars on Yelp upon my visit. Is it the best pizza you'll ever have? Probably not, but First & Last has been doing their thing for a long time and it shows! This Glastonbury location is fairly new compared to the others and they were packed on a Saturday night. We arrived pretty early (before 5pm) and were seated right away. They had some fun fall cocktail specials so we treated ourselves to those and enjoyed their complimentary focaccia bread - which was amazing! You smell it immediately upon entering so I was excited to see it was given to us right as we were seated. We split two small pizzas and a caesar salad. The dressing didn't really taste like caeser to me...didn't have much flavor and it was extra creamy. I suspect they don't make it with anchovies and so it's missing that umami flavor. For pizzas, we got the broccoli specialty pie and made our own with pepperoni and garlic. We LOVED the broccoli pie that was super cheesy and were fans of their mini pepps on the pepperoni pie. All around great meal and would definitely come back! Would I wait over 30+ minutes for a table if they were super busy though? Unsure.

No, I wasn't tripping on Psilocybin mushrooms, but I was playing baseball on one of the sports simulators at the Clubhouse on Main. You see, when you play their baseball game you can choose your opposing team (I couldn't resist competing against Team Zombie), choose your stadium, and choose a few other variables. Last night, a professional organization I belong to hosted a game night charity fundraiser here, and we had a blast. We played simulated baseball, golf, and hockey, threw axes and darts, had some great food, and overall had a sensational time. Clubhouse catered our food with platters of wings, quesadillas, salads, nachos and sliders. The food was plentiful and quite good. The space is huge and also has pool tables, video games, karaoke, Pop-A-Shot basketball games, a full bar and quite a few big flat screen TVs on the wall. I chatted with a couple who watched the Super Bowl here and told me the place was mobbed. Definitely a cool place to hang out or host a party. Oh, and best of all, I ran into fellow Elite Yelper Jen H while I was here! PRO TIP The bar isn't cheap, a Margarita I bought for a friend cost $14. They do have a Happy Hour where things are mightily discounted.

Choices were limited to 'small and large plates', there was no appetizer section. We were asked "sparkling bottled ($$) or tap water?". We chose tap. Server brought an old-style quart-size milk bottle and small juice-size glasses. The water had no ice, so I assumed water was cold, it wasn't. I ordered a 'breakfast' stout, my wife coffee. Stout was served in a wine glass, not a traditional pint glass. Wife said coffee wasn't that hot. When they brought our beverages, wife asked for a napkin since none were on the table. Like most civilized countries, I like to put a napkin in my lap when I sit down in a restaurant. Apparently you need to ask for one here. Young server muttered something about place settings are brought when food is delivered. I guess an ale and coffee aren't napkin worthy. Not sure what they accomplish with this goofy policy. It looks more like some kind of cost cutting measure. We made reservations a week earlier, wanted us to confirm a second time through text the same morning. It led me to think this must be a popular place with people clamouring to get in. Once there, place wasn't bust at all, no waiting customers and a sea of unoccupied tables. Our guest arrived after we ordered our beverages. After a few minutes, I ended up flagging down a server to get her a drink. Another sign we were stuck with a 2nd or 3rd-string staff. Our aunt ordered a specialty drink from their menu; "champagne in a laundry basket", (looked more like laundry water in a wash tub). After taking our orders, paper menus were collected to be reused. Maybe they were saving money on copy paper. I kinda' wish she left one in case we wanted desserts or something later. They were keeping the table clear of literally everything. I ordered a humus plate for use as an appetizer, something to share and couldn't be screwed up while waiting for our main course. When entrees showed up, we all chose 'smoked sausage eggs-benedict', extra servers were in tow with plates, napkins and silverware, napkin place settings given after all plates were on the table. My wife was seated across from me, sitting next to her Aunt Nan. The first plate was placed in front of me. Even being the neanderthal caveman I am, I knew this was the most basic etiquette faux pas (I felt humiliated j/k). Ladies are ALWAYS served first, another red flag from an inexperienced staff. The 'smoked sausage' Eggs Benedict failed on many levels. It wasn't hot, poached eggs were both over and under-cooked- egg whites had chunky white snot, yolks were not runny. The 'smoked sausage', was kielbasa logs cut in half lengthwise, they were overcooked and impossible to cut without flattening and mutilating egg and muffin. They could be used as wheel chocks, I had to deconstruct it so sausage could be wrestled with on the side. Wife said the 'homemade' English muffin had the tap water taste like what we were served 'for free'. I couldn't help but envision a garden hose filling a mop bucket used for filling the milk bottles. The Hollandaise sauce lacked silky richness and flavor, I've had better with McCormick packets. Benedict was overpowered with the taste of the smoked sausage. This meal was our aunt's special treat for our birthdays. They did not finish their meals, leaving mostly the pieces of the hockey puck-hard sausage. Server had been touting the pastry chef for the home-made English muffins. They were not any better than Thomas's English muffins. I am a plate-cleaner by habit, I've even been called human garbage disposal, so I managed to clear this one, (except for the egg snot, it would've taken a straw to finish it). My wife always has leftovers I happily dispose of quietly, not this time, gave it a hard pass. I felt unfulfilled, I was food frustrated, so I ordered some bacon cheese scones and shared them with the table. They turned out to be the best thing we had, warm Bisquick quality with a good taste of bacon and cheese almost as addicting as Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. We consumed them like a pack of hungry wolves. I asked and was told they don't serve them with butter. These begged for butter. IMO, butter should already be on the table. My wife picked this venue for our birthday treat meal with our beloved Aunt Nan from MA treating us. I apologized to her for our disappointing choice. She said she was glad I said it, she didn't want to say anything to make us feel bad. With tip, the bill for 3 was $171.00. We could have had a better meal and service at an IHOP for a quarter of the cost, I know I would have felt more satisfied. This experience made onto my list of top 5 worst eating experiences.

This may be, perhaps, the best Happy Hour I have ever seen anywhere. It's EVERY DAY from 3:30-6. The food item options are huge (20-25) plus three dessert choices. There's are also seven quality mixed drinks, three beers and seven wines! OMG! The bartender recognized me! I haven't been here since January 2025 (1 1/3 years ago). She is even knew where I sat! The menu is unchanged except for a few minor things. For my first drink, I'm having the Max Manhattan made with Old Overholt Rye, Cinzano Sweet Vermouth, orange bitters and orange twist. This has a nice garnish and tastes great! For my first food item, I'm getting a Caesar Salad made with romaine lettuce, garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese. The smell of cheese is quite strong! It's a good portion. This tastes good! Crunchy croutons and tasty lettuce. For my next food item, I'm having a Salmon lettuce cup. Nice presentation! It's on a bed of ice and a lemon to sprinkle. This is quite good! Next up, I'm having a Cup of Clam Chowder. I believe these are house-made croutons. This came out quick! It's nice and hot! Tastes great! Well, with a little hot sauce that is...I like the classic music here. For my next drink, I'm having an Old Fashioned made with Old Forester Bourbon, simple syrup and Angostura bitters. Damn! Nice presentation (the Amarena cherry on the wooden stick) and a great tasting drink! The bartenders are good here! Very attentive! For my next food item, I'm having the Steamed Mussels made with soppressata, capers, shellfish stock, spring herb butter and Pernod butter. I love the focaccia! It is heavily buttered. The mussels are real good! For my next food item, I'm having the Scallops A La Plancha made with mustard spatzle, pea puree, asparagus and mushroom cream. This is good. It's heavy due to the pasta. It's like an entree. To wash this all down, I'm getting a bottle of Pellegrino sparking water. I like this stuff! For my next food item, I'm having four (Buck a Shuck) Cherrystone clams and four Oysters of the Day (only $1.95 each). These are good! I love the cocktail and vinaigrette sauces (with the crushed pink peppercorns). Sprinkle that lemon! For my next drink, I'm having a Happy Hemmy made with rum, grapefruit juice, lime and vanilla extract. What a great drink! Very unique taste! This has kick! For my food item, I'm having the "Baltimore Style" Shrimp Cocktail made with Old Bay Seasoning and stone ground mustard. OMG! The shrimp are big These are great! I love that mustard! For my next good item, I'm having the Blackened Fish Taco made with pineapple salsa and aji verde. I love it! This is easy to eat. For my last appetizer, I'm having the Happy Burger made with lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. I miss this badly! This is delicious! It's a well-seasoned burger let me tell you! For dessert, I'm having the Creme Brulee. This is the cutest Creme brulee ever! On a Happy Hour menu?! This is a first anywhere! My favorite dessert! This is great! For my final drink, I'm having the Gin Gimlet made with Greylock Gin, simple syrup and lime juice. This is good! It's light so it's easy to drink at the end of my meal. That's 11 food items I ate and 4 mixed drinks. What a fantastic meal here!

Had an incredible dinner at Max Fish and it honestly delivered across the board…read more Started with the lobster bisque -- silky, rich, and absolutely amazing. The clam chowder was just as good, thick and loaded with flavor and ingredients in every bite. The grilled octopus with potatoes was a standout -- perfectly tender (not rubbery at all) and packed with flavor. Oysters were fresh, crisp, and just straight up delicious. For the main, the paella was -- rich, loaded with seafood (shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels, clams), and cooked perfectly. Paired it with a light beer which helped cut through the richness and kept everything balanced. Service was on point and the ambiance made it a great overall experience. Definitely a spot I'd go back to.
