I have to update my prior 5 star rating to a 3 star. The soup was cold. The veal was good but nothing to write home about. The sauce was good. My wife enjoyed her huge Calzone. It was stuffed and flavorful. Our table had no salt & pepper, no grated cheese or crushed red pepper. We were not asked if we wanted any either. Our waitress only checked on us once. No inquiry about refills or if we needed anything else. We'll probably go back but it won't be our first choice. read more

eh, this place is OK but not fabulous by any means. The place was nearly empty on a Saturday night and slowly became full with elderly customers and families with little kids. The wine list leaves a lot to be desired. The wait staff is slow. The food was just OK. I called ahead to order a Crispy Chicken grinder. i had the menu in hand and the item is listed as $12.95. I was asked what I wanted on it and I asked for Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, and Provolone. I was asked if i wanted the sauce on it and I said no I want a Crispy Chicken grinder, not a Chicken Parm grinder. With tax the grinder should have been $13.94. When I arrived they charged me $15.51. I showed them the menu and they said there was an upcharge for the cheese and the onions. No other place I go to (Porto's, Central Pizza, Bills Pizza, Kensington Pizza etc.) charges for cheese or onions and they need to tell their customers that there is an upcharge. On the menu under grinders it states "Topped with all your favorite Veggies." I guess onions are not included. $15.51 for a grinder, No Thanks! What a great way to loose a customer! read more

Absolutely delicious food. Came here on a whim this past evening and we're glad we did. It's cute little place. Staff was super friendly including the two little girls talking to the bartender who told us "have a good one" as we left. Haha. Chicken piccata was amazing, chicken Marsala and potatoes was amazing and the mashed potatoes pizza... stunning. We left happy and stuffed with lots of leftovers. read more

Our moment of fright came when the new menu didn't list calzones, but our worry was quickly assuaged when the waitress said they were still made, and our meatball and sausage/onion calzones were great as always. The place is casual and traditional; you get bread and butter before the meal, and salad or soup come with the pasta (lemon and buttery chicken francaise and linguine, yes please!). They've updated the decor in the last year or two with brick panels--not too high end, but cozy--and neat wood slice feature walls. The bar and bar tables are more contemporary though, and there's a decent beer and wine list wherever you sit. The staff is always kind. I don't think they've been short with us even on a busy night. I've ordered the vegetarian pizza with bacon, wanting the combo, and didn't get a funny look for my odd request. The food is Italian (comfort for me) with a long pizza list, and they have pick-up or Grub Hub for dining in. It's more casual than Portofino's, and the kind staff and satisfying food favorites keep us coming back. read more

I came here for my grandpa's birthday. My family lives close to this restaraunt and comes here a lot. I'm from New York and this was very good food. I didn't try the pizza but my family loved it. All the dishes were excellent. Huge portions and so affordable ( I'm used to NYC prices so this was really a treat) Service was great and the waitress brought over bread right away. I had the spaghetti and meatballs but asked for vodlka sauce instead. Soo good and tons of sauce. A huge bowl of spaghetti which is what I was looking for. The meatballs were very good a bit small compared to the massive amount of pasta they were in. My dad had the veal special which had artichokes and mushrooms on it in a lemon basil sauce. I had some of it and it was very good as well. Warning though the sauce was extremely buttery and rich. My mom got the linguine gamberi and it was delicious with 6 huge shrimp fresh mozz and proscuitto. Was huge also and so affordable. The veal parm and eggplant parm looked good too. We had 10 people and the restaraunt was accomadting and brought out a slice of chocolate cake for my grandpa's birthday. It was all so nice. Come her for a warm family meal. We really like Bella Pizza - they have really good gluten-free pizza. They even make it in its own pan, so you don't have to worry if someone has celiac disease. Also a nice place to eat, clean and comfortable. We consistently go to Bella Pizza and we always like it. read more

Ordered delivery thru Slice (per restaurant site suggestion). 10 minutes past estimated delivery I called to follow up on where the delivery was, staff answered from customer service line and seemed knowledgeable that delivery was 7-9 minutes away while cutting me off the entire chat. 30 minutes past estimated delivery time (an hour and 15m after order time) we had to cancel via Slice because there was still no delivery made. Slice was great about canceling however Bella's tried to deliver 10 minutes after our cancellation (also leading me to believe they only rushed out to deliver because they got canceled on). Driver was nice enough and we told him it was canceled so he if had to take the pizza back it's understandable, which he did. Ultimately we don't know the quality, delivery for Bella's I would strongly not suggest though. read more

My favorite pizza place in Berlin. I recently introduced my girlfriend to Bella's and now it's her favorite as well. We only go there for the pizza so this review is solely for the pizza on the menu. They have a wide variety of specialty pies with our favorite being the buffalo chicken pizza. The bleu cheese baked in with the mozzarella cheese, and mixed with the tangy flavor of buffalo gets us excited every time. Highly recommend it. read more

Bella's what can I say my hometown spot grew from a hole in the wall counter take out and slice shop to a 8 table to a full size restaurant to a full size restaurant to a full size restaurant and full size bar over the years Billy the owner is a nice guy him and pops can pretty much always be spotted doing something in the kitchen or at the side table. There chix parm is a home run the pasta fagoli is very good pizza is great tangy sauce thin crust I have a picky eater that will never say no to Bella's, the special buff chic pizza is PHENOMENAL! My only complaint was I didn't like there egg plant parm so was disappointed prob my fault expecting eggplant to be dredged in flower egg wash breadcrumbs and fried this was cooked similar to a franchise when I had it which is flower eggwash and pan fried so it wasn't what I was expecting not bad just not for me overall we enjoy Bella's few times a month! read more

I've been going to Bella's my whole life for pizza but as soon as the owners changed or whatever happened, the food went down hill. The crust is like paper and the sauce doesn't taste the same. Staff isn't very nice either, they always seem to mess at least one thing up in my order. Disappointing because that was my favorite pizza place. We were frequent diners at Bella's for a couple of years. Every visit was great. We really enjoyed their salads, pizzas, and entrees. Due to our positive experiences, we often recommended this place and brought friends with us. However, I'm not sure if we'll ever go back after last night. We hadn't been there for a while, but decided to bring two other couples for dinner. They converted to brick oven pizza a few months ago, which we were excited to try. However, we had to leave after 5 minutes due to the intense smoke odors making our eyes water and affecting one friend's breathing. Out of the 23,475 pizza places in a town of 20,467 residents, just get your pizza fix at Bella's and ignore the other pizzerias. It will save you time and money. Jason and I devoured a tomato basil pie last Friday night. The pizza was very yummy, but my nitpick criticism was that the tomatoes were not sliced thick enough. We ate it in front of the register. I believe it is a family run business and they were very nice to us. I looked on their menu and they have my favorite entrée, EGGPLANT ROLLATINI!!! I don't pretend to understand why people won't drive a few miles for real Italian food and pizza. This place appears to do a nice luncheon business and so so at dinner. I just don't know why. I have tried the pizza twice and the crust lacks chew and tastes like cardboard. The toppings are of obvious inferior quality from the mozzarella to the tomatoes. I suggest people in search of real pizza make the drive to Meriden or, heaven forbid, New Haven for brick oven pizza. read more

Ordered pizza here for takeout this past week. Was shocked to walk in to see all employees not wearing masks; including the 3 adults working the front counter/register. One employee had a homemade mask that was covering her chin. The others had nothing. We all have our own feelings about the current situation going on. But if you're in food service, and you're opening your doors to the public right now, you should really take SOME precautions to make customers feel comfortable. We've gotten takeout from several places recently, all of which made it very clear that they have safety measures in place right now. This was very surprising. Pulling a hair out of one of the pizza slices at home was just the icing on the cake. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back here. read more

I normally like this place. The food is decent but when I ordered a pizza a few days ago, the cashier had a mask on but her nose hanging out. The people expediting the food had masks around their necks but not on their faces, and the cooks in the back had no masks on at all. Obviously no-one cares about the well being of their customers. We moved into town in April & needed a pizza place! A friend recommend Bella! This has become our absolute favorite place for dinner. Pizza is excellent, you can smell the freshness of the dough. We have ordered several different types & no complaints on any of them! Calzones are great, again can smell the freshness! Salads are great, can make them any way you like! I grew up going to Bella and still go frequently. Some of my favorites are the Ortolano Pizza, Berlin special and antipasto salad. They also serve gluten free pizza which is a plus. They are good for take out or to sit and eat. The rolls you get with dinner are so good as well! Def a recommendation! read more

I don't think I've ever seen three distinct dining options like this in a single establishment. - The old fashioned "grab a slice at the counter and park yourself at a plastic table." - Booth seating with waiter service in the dining room. - The "Bella'Gio room," with the full bar experience, televisions, bar stool seating, and lights turned low... We opted for the first of the three, being super hungry and in need of a fast meal. The tomato-basil pizza was very good, made better with the basil-flavored olive oil on the table. Now there's something proper to dip your pizza crust into [these gabbagools and their ranch dressing!]... It's Berlin, so one can't reasonably expect the most delectable pizza one has ever had, but they clearly know what they're doing here... it's high quality for sure. In addition to the pizza, they serve some very nice looking Italian entrees and sandwiches, as one might expect. Online and circular coupons will keep us coming back. read more

Rather disappointed lately after many years of enjoying their food. My wife & I ordered our favorite - Chicken & brocoli pasta dinner. It came with the usual abundance of chicken & brocoli and thats where the positives ended. The angel hair pasta was so overcooked it was mushy and it was all broken pieces - so small you had to use a spoon to pick it up. There was a different, almost cheesy smell to the entire meal and no light marinara sauce like it used to have. Instead it was SWIMMING in oil - like it dripped off each spoonful. And thats after I spooned out close to 1/4 cup of oil. Add in the chicken seemed to taste as if it was boiled and I simply gave up on the meal. Had I been eating in I would have sent it back (which I've only done once in my life) but alas I'd done take-out and the drive back wasnt worth it. Hoping this was a fluke but will definitely give second, third & fourth thoughts before returning. So bummed. read more

Found the restaurant tonight dirty looking...table had not been properly cleaned and grossed us out. Floors looked unkept too...air conditioner did not seem to be cooling enough. Restaurants need to do deep cleaning once in a while and this is no exception! Although the "Berlin" pizza was good and our waitstaff person was pleasant enough tho seemed overworked...not sure I will go back anytime soon. Been going to Bella for years and I'm sorry to report it seems to be going down hill. Last two visits two out of three meals were either disappointing to just plain awful. Baked ziti was not baked nor was it ziti. Dishes we regularly order are now different, bland. Yesterday, our party ordered 3 dinners, no bread was offered. This is the second pizza restaurant we chose for the Great Pizza Review. We ordered a cheese, vegetarian, and a pesto pizza. We received the cheese and pesto but the vegetarian was an eggplant pizza. They use inferior mozzarella cheese and their tomatoes are beefsteak or big boys. They really should be using Roma tomatoes. The crust was ok but didn't have much taste. When we pulled a piece of cheese all the cheese fell off. We gave this pizza a conservative 50/100. read more

I visited Bella for the second time. This week I was there for dinner with my uncle and cousin. In my previous visit I was there for lunch and had good food and good service. This time the food was still delicious but the service left a lot to be desired. First when my uncle asked what kind of beer was on tap she listed them off and indicated they had Sam Adams Seasonal. We asked which one it was and she said 'seasonal'. Yes, we get that. She apparently had no idea that the seasonal changes with the seasons. I will give her credit that she did go to find out what it was. Unfortunately, since she didn't know much about beer, she wasn't able to know that the beer she brought to the table was too warm. She did replace it with a bottled beer for my uncle though. Her next mistake was forgetting to bring my uncle the correct salad dressing. Again, she did get it for him, but after we had to ask her to bring it. Finally, when we ordered a salad to take home for my aunt, she failed to check that the dressing was in the bag. Thankfully we checked and got it before we left. I would definitely return there the next time I'm in town, but hopefully our waitress will either learn how to do her job correctly or she will no longer be working there. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my father today. Not my first time here. He ordered a tortellini Alfredo. And for myself penne ala vodka. Both dishes served with choice of soup or salad. He got pasta fagioli wrapped to go. The Alfredo was rather boring and thin but ok none the less. My vodka sauce was everything I expected it to be. Brought the kids here after a day at the beach. The bread was warm and delicious. The garlic bread was wonderful and had a great red sauce that you could eat on its own. We had a small cheese and a small 1/2 buffalo chicken and 1/2 tomato basil. All cooked perfectly and were very satisfying. The atmosphere left a bit to be desired but with the kids after a day at the beach we were not looking for anything fancy. Highly recommended. read more

Dined here twice in the past few months & the food is always delicious., never had a bad meal here. We have had their Chicken Marsala, Chicken Parm, Rigatoni Bolognese topped with ricotta & pizza. Always delicious, filling & we always leave with take-home containers. The pizza at Bella's is my favorite pizza around. I am very picky when it comes to pizza, but when asked where we should order pizza from I always suggest Bella's.
