In early November, I contacted this company to repair my gas fireplace--my primary heat source--before winter. A technician came out, serviced the unit, and identified the issue: a faulty blower. He provided a quote for the replacement, which I approved immediately. That's when the problems began. Ten days later, I called for an update and was told the part hadn't even been ordered. Another ten days later, I was informed the part wasn't available, but they could try retrofitting a similar one. When I asked if there were other options, they said no--so I agreed. On the scheduled day, I took time off work, only to receive a call 30 minutes after they were supposed to arrive saying they could now order the correct part directly from the manufacturer--something they had previously claimed was impossible. To proceed, I had to pay in full immediately. Fast forward three months, and I still didn't have a working fireplace. For weeks, I was repeatedly told, "It should arrive next week." Finally, after expressing my frustration, I got a call at 5:00 PM saying they had located the part, expedited shipping, and could complete the repair the next day. I took another day off work. The technician arrived--but with the wrong part. Instead of tracking down the actual component, they gave him a universal one that didn't fit. They then assured me the correct part would arrive in two days. This time, my wife took the day off work. The technician showed up an hour and a half late (after I had called and reminded them we had rearranged our schedules for this), but they finally made the repair. Other issues worth noting: I was promised a callback from a manager or owner--still waiting on that. Their phone system is a mess. Every time I was placed on hold (which was often), someone else would pick up and begin a different conversation. I would explain who I was and they would say "oh, let me put you back on park." The three coldest months of winter without my primary heat source, multiple days off work, countless phone calls, and constant misinformation (what my generation would call lies). My shop is fed 240 volts from my main house panel. One leg of power has disconnected. The shop only has some 120 , (half of the 120 is out) and it has no 240. The panels are made by Crouse Hinds, so breaker availability may be limited (I do have some). The house panel is dual fed (Solar and Rocky Mountain Power). A 50 amp breaker was replaced to correct the problem. The charge for the house call was reasonable. read more

We had someone come out to look at our electrical system- we were having problems with the power cutting out. He looked at it for about 30 seconds then told us that the only way to fix it would be re-wire our whole house, and estimated us at about $9000. Obviously I got a second opinion, and it took the other person about 5 minutes to diagnose a bad leg. $250 for literally nothing. Poor and lazy service. Call anyone else! read more

I want to sing the praises of Jon, the installer of my new furnace. Of course, he was very knowledgeable about his work, but he was also friendly, polite and very innovative. I live in a very old home in a rural area and homes like mine often times take a lot of jury-rigging to get things to fit. Jon showed himself to be not only an experienced and a hard worker, but also a master craftsman. He had to use his imagination to really make things fit and at the end gave me a high-quality installation to match the great furnace. I would also like to thank David, the salesman for his dedication and persistence in getting the furnace delivered, despite the delays from the manufacturer. Well done, David. First Call Jewel will always be our first call. Recently moved to Rigby, Idaho, and upon the weather turning colder, we experienced "clicking/expansion" knocks in our master bedroom. Brandon from First Call Jewel was our service technician who not only serviced our heating unit (which Jewel originally installed several years ago brand new), Brandon was able to correct the clicking/expansion noises. Please hire competent people to answer the phone. Tried to call but got a know-nothing-can't-understand-anything-girl who somehow got disconnected and never called back. I needed some service in the reasonable future but couldn't even get any attention or answers for 2 more weeks, so I went elsewhere. If business is that good, why not hire a few more people? And train the phone answering girls - let them know what kind of business you do, some clue about how much different services may cost, and how to operate the phones so they don't disconnect or cut off callers. You probably lose a alot of business & alot of new customers as well as old ones, but hey I guess you save alot on office girl training. read more

Had a small water leak at a brass fitting coming out of our home water supply line. I have peck piping experience and would have fixed it myself but just had shoulder surgery. They were very responsive but that was as far as it went. The serviceman spent no more than 1 1 /2 hours at my home and I know from experience that the peck piping repair materials that he used cost no more than about $30. They charged me $1,023 including service charge which was normally waived when they did the job. I asked for a breakdown of hours and materials which they would not provide for two weeks. I finally got in touch with the plumbing manager and was finally told that their flat plumbing rate was $190/hr which is the highest or among the highest in the area, however even at that rate the service man was in our home no more than 1 1 /2 hours on the repair so I figure that we were overcharged about 4 times what is should have cost. I spoke with the service manager who spent about 20 minutes trying to justify this crazy high amount but with my own experience in plumbing they were just really lame excuses. I was told by several people in the past not to use them because they were so high in cost but I didn't listen to their warnings. My bad and never again. read more

WOW! I never been treated so rudely. I went onto the website and gave them information very specific to what I needed. I did not get a call for a week. I went back onto the webpage and sent a chat. I did get a call from Tashia, she wanted me to give all the info again. She was only willing to take my info and to say that I would get a call from a project manager. Apparently the system does not work well enough to get a call from someone who is going to come over. After getting an apology for the info "getting Lost", I became very dubious about giving money to a company that does not even return calls. This person got very angry with me and began to talk over the top of me when I asked if the furnaces they install are in stock, or do they order them. I know this is kind of a pie in the sky question but we are in interesting times and are having trouble getting things shipped. It was not a question that had to be answered specifically, but a general "yes we do stock some", depending on the one you need.... Not an unreasonable question. It is too bad, it seems like this company was just what I needed, prepared to spend thousands, I couldn't get past the front desk. read more

Rip Off! Absolutely DO NOT call Jewell. $239.00 just to come out service charge. Charge was supposedly for after hours service even though I called at two o'clock in the afternoon. They explained the plumbing tech was in Pocatello so it would be after hours before he could get there. I had the supply line from the shut off valve to the toilet flush tank that had clogged and needed to be replaced-cost $163.00. Total cost $402.00! I could have bought a new toilet for that price. They give you service options ranging from $163.00 to $400.00 regardless of the cost of materials and labor time. I was not told in advance about these "options" when I called the Jewell offices. Do yourself a favor and call anybody but Jewell! read more

Called to look at water leak under fridge in a rental home. Tenant had permission to make repairs in his lease and from text message from me. Guy showed up, declined to do any work due to not speaking with me (owner directly). Said problem wasn't plumbing, but with fridge. I asked to have broken ice maker supply valve fixed. Well he didn't end up fixing that one, but just put a new one in and left the busted one. OK, no problem. But he billed 293.00 for the repair plus 129.00 service call. Part was all of 5 or 10 dollars. Total time for competent plumber should have been 30 min on the job. This is the 3rd and last time I will use Jewel. Every time the bill is about double what the cost is. Make sure to look around at other urgent services before using Jewel. read more

Our air conditioner died. We called on a Sunday and had someone at our door within an hour. He checked everything and showed my husband the meters and all to prove what he was saying was the truth. They couldn't do much for the unit without it costing a lot and it would have been just a band aid type treatment so, we decided for the consultant to come out and figure out what size and all would be needed. (Note:When you buy the air conditioner they deduct the service call too.) They have ordered the unit. I have to acknowledge how professional, clean, and respectful these people were. If something like this happens it is very stressful and they respect the fact that it will be, in our case, thousands of dollars. They were not pushy and knew what they were talking about. I needed a kitchen faucet installed. The tech was good, but the constant upsell attempt was completely annoying. I didn't want my line snaked or whatever all the way to the street for $1,000, and I didn't want a new garbage disposal either. I just wanted my faucet installed. And since I opted for the minimum package of services the work is guaranteed for just 30 days. I think the tech said if I opted for the $1,000 package the work is good for a year. That is utter BS. What kind of a reputable business sets up a warranty schedule like this? I will likely use a different plumber next time. On a positive note, my new faucet works great and does not leak! So, overall, the work this company does is solid, but no thanks to the hard sales technique. read more

We called to have our furnace repaired. He fixed it for $350 and it was working fine when he left. Less than five hours later it stopped working again. We called Jewel and their after-hours repairman came quickly, but had to get a part shipped in. He came the next day and fixed it. The furnace now works well. The problem is that the repairman said the first guy missed a short in the system and that that short ruined a whole bunch of other components in the system that were working perfectly fine before he came. They then charged us over $400 to replace all the parts that their mistake ruined. I will not call them again because I want businesses to be honest about their mistakes and cover those costs. read more

We found a leak in our basement on a Friday evening as we were getting ready to go out of town. Cleaned up the water, spread everything out to dry and on our return home my husband priced out the parts he needed to repair the leak. This was a repair my husband could have done, except the brand of part he wanted to use was not available in town without ordering it even from the big box stores. Shipping lead times of one week to five weeks. Plus because of our deck being above the faucet outside, all the work needed to be completed in the basement, without removing part of the deck or crawling under it. Engineer husband was overthinking the job... ehhhhh! I called 1stCall Jewel. For about $25 more than we had priced out with the quickest shipping time, the repair was done within two hours of the call. With the same part my husband had priced out and the deck intact. From taking the call to the service person the personnel were friendly and professional. The service person called about 15 minutes prior to showing up so I could put my dogs upstairs to keep them from barking too much. He did notate a needed repair to our turn off valve which doesn't completely turn off, meaning the water was slightly dripping the entire time he worked on the broken pipe. I am so frustrated with first call jewel!! We have been using them for years and even paid for a contract to have our furnace and other household equipment checked spring and fall. For the first year everything was great! The past 2 or 3 scheduled services we had to call to get a technician out. The service contract was so was supposed to be designed so we didn't have to "remember" to call. This fall service we again had to call and schedule our service. They then called and cancelled our first appointment because they needed the technicians for "emergency" calls. AKA the more money calls. Today we had a scheduled appointment for 8am. No call and No show. When we called they stated the technician had to check on a emergency call. We took time off work to be home for this service!! The lady was sorry, "could we come later?" Do they think I can just miss work again!! Really?! I live in a world where I am required to be at work!! Never again!!! read more

We had LEd ceiling lights in the kitchen and the first bathroom I guess when they start to go they flicker. Called first jewel they came out right away he didn't charge the service call fee because we needed to go and buy the lights a few weeks later called he was here right away put up the lights no fuss, absouletly wonderful people including the girls that answer the phones in the office. read more
