This school was amazing! Never drove a commercial vehicle ever in my life and in two weeks got my CDL. Fernando got me prepared for the skills and road test portion of my DMV exam. BAD POLICY: I called to rent a truck and schedule for a drivers test. They said I had to pay in advance, in CASH, full payment. $720. And that there was no refund policy. I live over 60 miles away (at least 1 1/2 hour drive). Very unfair business policy. Who would hand over $700 in cash knowing that you wouldn't get any refund if you had to cancel. Because I did not need to do the actual learning course - they didn't care about my need to rent the truck for the test. TERRIBLE policy. read more

So I signed up for this truck driving school back in February of 2020, I signed up with First Choice because a friend of mine got his license through them and recommended me to do the same through FC, so I put down 1,800, the lady in the office Silvia was very helpful and professional with any questions I had regarding the school, so props to her, she's amazing. On my first day I didn't do much besides sit on the sidelines and watch the students pull of the skills tests, about an hour in Khalifa, the older instructor had me do the straight line back up, he kinda made me rush through it and kinda ran through it, explaining how to back up and whatnot, anyways I did it once and that was it, I was "complete" but I didn't feel like I learned anything from it, he literally did all the work for me, he's an amazing instructor on SOME days, I had told Silvia i was working full time 10-13 hours daily and didn't know how long I can come in for the days I did show up, they always suggested 4 but I would do 2 due to my hectic work schedule, anyways I had took a "stress leave" at my job to try and follow through with the training at FC, so on my first day off from work I went to the school and was met with very angry looking faces form Rudy and Khalifa, now I don't know what the hell I did to get on their bad sides but they were just spilling these negative vibes at me, I asked Rudy for help on the offset and all he said was "you been here long enough, do it on your own" but with an attitude which I thought was pretty fucked up considering that I let them know about my work schedule and hours that I worked, while I was trying to perform the offset on my own with no idea what I'm doing, i can see Rudy talking to another student very secretly as if they were gossiping about how I long I've been there and I couldn't do it, that was the nail in the coffin for me, I left the school with no questions asked, didn't even bother asking for a refund cause I knew they needed the 1800 for their truck repairs, it's a cheap school, I've heard of their success rate being good but I didn't have the most pleasant time, you got like 30 students hovering over the trucks while Fernando is teaching and you can't really see what he's pointing out on the In-cab due to the large amounts of people around them, the yard is relatively small with 3 trucks in total from what I've seen, overall I give them a 2 because of the price and Silvia being a sweet lady. My suggestion would be TDA on cherry, for 700 bucks extra you can be in paradise with many trucks and huge lot to practice your skills, that's where I got my license at! Anyways the best of luck to you guys, my advice if you're coming to first choice, make sure you have the time to commit to it, if you work a very busy job that's physically demanding, this ain't the school for you just because the trainers tend to get moody after telling you the steps repeatedly, not gonna lie I did have trouble with the way they try to explain the offset with degrees and whatnot, I literally nailed it the 4th time at TDA without degree measurements and all that extra stuff, I get why they do it, to help you understand better but it didn't work for me, I learned it differently and did just fine, anyways this is my review for this trucking school, the best of luck to you future truck drivers. read more

Upon getting my Class B permit from the DMV, I waited for my instructor from work to begin with the training. After a couple of weeks of no training, he decided to give me a crash course(2hrs) cause I had my behind the wheel test the next day....Short Story Long, I failed like a druggy doing a piss test. Than our instructor had to take a leave of absent for a couple of months. Leaving me in a bit of "Oh Snap". My supervisor did some research and found "First Choice", she sent me for 2weeks of training with Fernando, Oscar and Califas. All of them put in the time and effort to ensure I had fine tune all from the Pre-Trip, Air Brakes, backing up, parallel park, alley and behind the wheel.... kinda regret not getting my Class A now. So first let me start off and say that Fernando and his associates are fantastic. They spent the time needed to teach me everything necessary not only to pass the test but with flying colors. I passed with all points in tact on air brakes, pre-trip, and skills (offset, straight back, alley docking). I only lost about 10 points on my actual trip which is well below the average of 25. They were extremely informative and provide you with everything needed to gain your CDL. To address some of the comments below in regards to sharing time; yes you will share some time with other students, yes you might have to wait 30 minutes to get in a vehicle, but the benefits FAR out way these minute nuisances. 1. You definitely get more than one hour of driving practice in comparison to most schools that cost 2x more. 2. He was willing to re-schedule some short notice cancellations on my part without charging me the extra fee for not cancelling 24 hours ahead of time. 3. Did I forget to mention HALF the cost of other trucking companies! 4. They took care of setting everything up at the DMV for me and guided me through the whole process.
