They fixed my garage door fast and perfect. It wasn't rushed .They was very professional it was affordable and was worth every penny.

One can believe whatever they will, but and i repeat but in this case, Johnathan was very dishonest with me...... number one misinformation regarding other gate company without even knowing who they were. second, he lead me to believe because the other com. was a little more reasonable that their product namelly liftmaster would have been made in china. funny, almost 99% of most products are made in same places. now, lets get one thing clear please. johnathan claims my georgious absolutely used in most all flower shops for wedding boueqetts, ect plant, was a bush. not.... beautiful many years to grow and produce productive plant. again, as to the existing motor has was taken without permission ....... was only 8 mths old with a longer arm to make gate roll easier. The reason the man that installed in a diff. location was due to my stephanotis plant. not disturb buds/flowerings. By putting it in another spot at the base of the gate the plant would not be disrupted and all would be good. still repeat still the man disrupted my plant after he had install new motor anyway. telling johnathan it was a piece of junk after removal. repeating myself by saying he was not not authorized to take In closing Johnathan lets be honest now, you made an error in judgement/and i lost the price of a resellable item. my loss now, i had to hire another company in fix my gate the way it should have been done to the tune of $650.00. You were asked to fix the slow opening and most of all to fix the fact that a child could open to a point of getting into and access to the pool, which is always our biggest priouity. your words.....they do not make things the way they used to and so this is the way it will open. i could come and tryyyy to fix but, also that is how it works now. as for the not closing tighter, y0u said this is the way it will be. This would have been so simple johnathan if you would not have just taken responsibility for the issue, insisted that i was just a nieve old lady . i hope all your other customers will so trust you as i did and things all go well. But, sometimes a little more respect for a client that has reason to question you loyalty and concern for their quality of work verses what you make off of the work. In closing i have vented and know what i have said is true and am sad that you claimed, basically what i said was just hot air. My best to you Johnathan and a lesson hopefully learned by us that seeing is believing with quality. About six years ago, the springs on my two-car garage broke. If you've ever had this happen, you know exactly what it sounds like--and you don't forget it. At the time, it surprised me because we were only five years into a newer, cookie-cutter home in Irvine. Jonathan, the owner of First Garage Door and Gates, explained that I have a very heavy door, which likely caused the failure. They were great to work with: professional, quick, and honest. Jonathan personally came out, assessed the issue, gave me a quote, and his tech completed the repair. It was a tough job, and the total cost was $795. I left them a glowing review. Fast forward to now--same issue. The garage springs broke again. Naturally, I called Jonathan, and he sent a tech named Danny out the next day. Danny was polite and quiet. When I asked how much the repair would cost, he said he needed to measure the springs first. He also started emphasizing that this was a "very heavy" and "custom" door, even throwing out a comment about the door being worth $15-20k. That immediately felt odd, considering every neighbor in my tract has a similar door. I reminded him that his company replaced these springs years ago. I stepped back inside, and when I returned about 15 minutes later, he was already working on the springs. That caught me off guard--I had asked for a quote upfront--but I trusted the company. I was a repeat customer, and they had treated me fairly in the past. About two hours later, Danny finished and told me the door would last for years. He mentioned installing heavy-duty "custom" springs and said he just happened to have them on his truck for another job later that week. When I asked for the price, he again said he needed to measure and calculate. Then came the shock: $3,400. I was floored. I told him I paid a fraction of that for the same job with the same company six years ago. He said he was just an hourly employee and that the owner sets pricing. I immediately called Jonathan, who said he'd talk to Danny to see if he could get me a discount. A few minutes later, Danny tells me, "The boss approved $2,000." Clearly Danny was the one setting the price. I'm guessing is just given a floor price to work with that is set by Jonathan. That raised even more red flags. How does a price drop by nearly half in minutes? I told him this should have been quoted upfront and that $2,000 was still excessive. When I questioned the "hourly employee" claim, he admitted he works on commission. I paid the $2,000, but I wasn't happy about it. And not the price at this point, just the principle. The door is the same door. The springs were "heavy duty" last time too. Calling them "custom" doesn't justify the markup--especially when they're already sitting in the truck. Anyone can Google the actual cost of these springs. I think their thoughts are "lets call it custom" and that justifies the quote. Jonathan called me afterward and apologized extensively. We spoke for about 30 minutes. He agreed that dropping from $3,400 to $2,000 made no sense and even asked me not to post this review. I told him it wasn't personal--I believe he's honest--but the commission-based model encourages upselling. He also mentioned that Danny isn't licensed and works under his license, which is concerning given how dangerous garage springs can be under that high tension. After I confirmed I was still leaving a review, Jonathan reviewed my old invoice and claimed the previous work didn't include spring replacement. I disagreed--when you've only had garage work done once, you remember what was replaced. I'm giving 3 stars instead of 1 because I do believe the owner himself does honest work. But the experience feels like luck of the draw depending on who shows up. My advice is, get a written estimate before work starts--no exceptions. I learned my lesson the hard way. First Garage Door and Gates came to the rescue again! When I came back from traveling, I didn't realize my husband put a manual lock on the garage door. When I went to open it, the garage made a crazy sound and wouldn't open. I tried a few more times before I noticed the manual lock. But by then, I could tell I did some damage because it wouldn't open or close properly. I called First Door Garage and they sent out a tech the same day (again)! This time, it was Jonathan. He checked it out and found that it fell off its track. I don't think we would've been able to identify and fix the problem so quickly. Luckily, there was no damage done by me trying to open it when it was manually locked and it was up and running properly in no time! Jonathan fixed it in less than 30 minutes! Utilized Yelp project to repair garage door broken spring. I inputted my zip code and Yelp did the rest. Apparently Yelp sent an email to all certified repair shops. I got a response from 3 garage repair businesses. One gave me a 2 hour windows to come provide estimate and never showed up. The second came and wasn't confidant and perhaps was an ESL Barrier. The 3rd was Jonathan from First Garage and Gates gave me an estimate cost for parts up front. He honored the appt time we agreed on, came and repaired, and tested. Threw away old parts, then oiled/serviced both of my garage doors. He provided a 2 year warranty on parts and receipt via email. Easily deserves 5 starts! read more

Johnathan was just fantastic!! My powered sliding gate had many issues for many months and then completely died.. A guy that does this kind of jobs a few months ago offered me to repair it with a forecasted cost of $2000 as the motor was for sure gone and I needed a new one. I called Johnathan yesterday and he came today. He did reconnect the motor to electricity and tuned the chain tension and another couple of technical issues and fixed it in 15 minutes!!! Awful communication. Tried conning me into needing a new brain for my garage door ($1200) when the motor was not even two months old. They broke my garage door to manually open it then forced me to pay them to repair the damage THEY did. UPDATE: Owner Jonathan immediately reached out to me to make right the unethical business practices of his employee--who I later found out was not his employee but contracted from another business (?). I reached out for garage door repair on Yelp. Fred quickly responded and was at our home within a few hours. After being quoted $300 for a repair, we opted to get a new garage door because this was the 2nd time we had to repair our garage door. Fred told me that they could probably install the door the following week. After agreeing on a certain price, Fred called me a couple of days later and said that the door cost would be $300 more than what he quoted me. Since I had already paid $763 towards the garage door, I didn't want to start the process over with another company so I agreed to the $300 price increase. The garage door ended up being installed a month later instead of the following week. After all was said and done. The garage door installation was great and we are happy with the finished product. I did not appreciate the $300 price increase, the company should know how much the product will cost them in order to give the customer an accurate quote. Nor did or I appreciate the 3 week delay from the original installation date. This is why I rated First Garage door 3 stars. The gentlemen who installed the door did great. read more
