I had two companies come out for estimates. One recommended replacing the entire garage door. The second technician told me not to replace it - for about $200 he could assess it, fix it, and said the repaired door would be better quality than a cheaper new one. After the assessment, the quote was around $800 to replace springs and do the needed work. We agreed. He returned the next day with parts and started the job. As the work progressed, he kept adding items and raised the price to $1,100, which I accepted. When the job was finished, he suddenly told me the total was actually $2,000. At no point did he stop to ask whether I approved the extra work or the extra cost. I objected, and he "discounted" it to $1,900. At that point I just wanted him off my property, so I paid it. After he left, I found large gaps at the bottom where he unnecessarily replaced the seal, and a gap at the top where the door no longer closes fully. I contacted them to give them a chance to make it right - and they are now pretending they never serviced my garage at all and refusing to honor their own warranty. This entire experience felt like classic low‑balling followed by **scope‑creep fraud tactics**: a small initial quote, constant add‑ons, a surprise final bill, and then denial of responsibility. If this pattern continues with other customers, it's only a matter of time before someone involves the authorities and this ends up on the news or social media.
