PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW.
I have been trying to think of how to write this review for nearly two weeks since I went to First Light. I typically use Yelp to write positive reviews and I also usually consider all the factors (food, service, prices, etc) before giving a rating. Unfortunately for this company the service left such a lasting impression that I could not even consider the other contributing factors.
I will start by saying that I am generally a very easy customer to please. Maybe too easy sometimes, as I often apologize or get embarrassed when a member of my party has anything negative to report to the waiter or waitress. That being said, I cannot attest to the quality of all of the service at this establishment. I had gone one day and had a pleasant experience but two days later had a horrifying one.
I was at a family reunion when my dad (who I rarely get to see), his fiancee, and myself decided to get breakfast at First Light where a couple of us had dined two days prior. We decided to sit at the bar as there was a 45 minute wait for seating. KEITH took our orders with a pleasant attitude and smile at the time. After waiting close to 40 minutes with no updates on when our food would be ready my dad made an innocent joke to myself and his fiancee about the slow service. Believe me when I say he had no real complaint against it (especially since we knew it would be slow as there had been a lengthy wait) and he was perfectly content enjoying our company and watching the golf on tv. It was at this time that I noticed KEITH glance over at my dad (he had obviously heard the joke) and mouth "F****** A******." I was appalled by this gesture. I wanted to leave immediately but did not know how to handle the situation as I had never experienced anything like it. About 10 minutes later my dad asked about the food and KEITH replied with a snarky, underhanded comment that left me repulsed by his ability to feign a positive attitude and cheery persona. The food did finally arrive although I was too upset at this point to even eat mine. When we were finished I told my dad and his fiancee that I would take care of the bill and meet them outside. Having been the only one to witness this disgusting behavior, I wanted to address it myself. I asked KEITH if there was a manager and he replied that he was. I began to address the issue and explain that I saw what he mouthed to my dad. At this point he tried to excuse himself and act unaware of the situation. He asked if I was referring to his comment after my dad asked about the food. I said no it was what you mouthed to him after he made a joke to his present company. It was obvious he knew exactly what I was talking about but he tried to avoid the situation. I began to express my belief that at the very least I was not tipping him (insinuating that I would follow up with a further complaint) but he took it to mean something differently. Rather than issuing any apology at all, he chose to make me feel as if I had been in the wrong by simply saying "you want a free meal? fine. have a good day" when a free meal was not what I set out to achieve.
The whole experience rattled me as I have traveled worldwide and never witnessed such inappropriate behavior, from a manager no less! I am sure the other staff there are pleasant enough workers and I cannot comment on anyone else but I want it to be known what a HORRIBLE experience it was for me and my family who I hardly get to spend time with. I told this story to all 60+ family members at my reunion and none of them will be returning. My intentions here are not to insult this business or compromise its success, my intention is to highlight a terribly mannered "manager." read more
