It's rare these days to come across the combination of expertise, professionalism, and value that we found with First To Respond Restoration. My wife and I had a sewage flood at our home in July and needed to have much of our downstairs sanitized and rebuilt. As homeowners who never had to deal with anything like this, we felt lost and helpless. To make matters worse, our insurance company didn't pay for most of the damage. Needless to say, we were petrified as we were looking at substantial out-of-pocket costs. After the initial clean-up, we very tentatively started the process by having three companies come in for estimates. The first two companies insisted that we had to demo and rebuild 1-2' of all the walls downstairs. As my wife and I were intimately familiar with the flood when it happened, we knew that the water and sewage didn't come close to a good portion of the walls and baseboards. When First To Respond came in, Chris (the Estimator/Owner) meticulously measured the moisture in each wall, telling us that there were definitely spots that had to be demoed, but there were likely spots that didn't need to be. Naturally we would get the full picture once the floors and baseboards came up. To us, this seemed like the more reasonable and professional approach. As my wife and I suspected, only certain areas were affected, and much of our existing structure remained intact. Because of their integrity and expertise, First To Respond saved us time and money. And speaking of money, First To Respond's estimate (and final cost, as they came in both on time and at budget) was very reasonable for the work performed. The first company's estimate came in much higher for the mitigation portion of the job, and that didn't include the re-build. We also would have had to find a separate contractor, vet them, and deal with that whole project separately. The second company came in slightly higher than First To Respond and they weren't even licensed. First To Respond was completely transparent with us, showing us their various licenses, insurance policies, IICRC & EPA certifications, etc. They even gave us a referral to an ATP testing agency to ensure that our home was bacteria-free after the clean-up. We felt really good that we were dealing with people who were up front and true industry professionals. As mentioned, one of the things we liked about working with First To Respond was the fact that they are licensed contractors and could handle both the sewage cleanup and re-build under one roof. We've heard so many horror stories about having to find a good contractor, workers who show up late (or not at all), the headache of comparing multiple contracts, doing due diligence, etc. We never had to waste time or energy with any of this. What's more: the First To Respond team showed up on time every day, were quick and efficient with their work, and their craftsmanship was superb. In fact, everyone who has come over since the rebuild (including a friend of a friend who is a contractor), has been impressed with the work and has remarked about the attention to detail. The personal touch and guidance during the job was just what you would expect from a family business. Davin, our Project Manager, checked in with us every day, either by phone or in-person. Most of the time he came by to make sure everything was being handled correctly and took as much time as we needed to answer questions and go over the overall plan and progress. Our Lead Technician, Keanu, also took time to answer questions while he and Andre (the second Technician) were working the job. My wife and I also noted how professionally they handled themselves and how respectful they were of our home. Chris also came by, including the last day of the project to ensure the job was completed up to his (and our) high standards. There were so many examples of the team bending over backwards for us we can't even remember them all. Sewage mitigation and re-construction is not cheap, but First To Respond added value in so many ways that my wife and I actually felt we got a great deal at the end of the project. After discovering water leaking from my ceiling, I called them at 6 am, and they were at my house by 6:45. From there, they were helpful, worked professionally, and were communicative. They found the leak in the attic, helped me contain the damage, opened my ceiling, dried it out over 3 days, and came back and patched, and then came back and painted. Alex and Byron even replaced the furniture in my bedroom after *dusting it*--they didn't have to do that!!!--and touched up the walls after re-hanging the artwork for me. Plus highly real Reputable Remediation company clearly stated on record it would be impossible to Hepa vacuum clothes unless You were to agitate aka shake to get all the stuff out and that they should have been professional washed and cleaned and that 100% of all remediation companies that do legit work. I will give him the opportunity to rectify this or whatever we discuss. It appears he may have been caught in the middle of being lied to from whom he was hired by. The property company that hired him screwed the moving company for $20k and is now being prosecuted criminally by City Attorneys office for what they did to us the tenants. On November 14, 2020, I contacted Chris with First to Respond to have an estimate/inspection. On Monday, November 16, 2020, Davin came to my residence and conducted an inpsection to write an estimate for potential work to be performed. He stated that he had the computer format, that included the floor plan with measurements for the estimate, but I suspected he did not. Because, Davin told me he would have the estimate completed in 24 to 48 hours. On Thursday, November 19, 2020, I then called Davin four days later and he dishonestly told me he would have it done on Friday, five days later. To date, Davin has never produced the estimate and has never responded and it appears First to Respond dishonestly lacks work ethics and customers should be aware of this. read more

I live in a house built in 1929 and when I realized I had mold in my office it freaked me out. (Finding and abating the the cause of it was very difficult too -- Chris and Jose were helpful with discovery as well.) I had five (yup) companies look at the issue and submit bids. Chris came and did a thorough investigation of the home even before I had an inspector do the tests and was right-on as to where the problems were. His estimate was detailed, self-explanatory, and the total cost for the abatement was fair and reasonable. Besides being a consummate professional, Chris's calm demeanor, availability to discuss every detail, and Industry knowledge quelled my anxiety. Got a lot of estimates and did a lot of research. First to Respond not only came in at a better rate than most of the companies, but Chris was willing to quickly answer any questions and concerns I had about the job, his qualifications, steps, etc. He seems to throw in a lot of things that other companies line item and charge for. On top of that, he honored a 5% discount from Angie's List and did so on both change orders when the job proved to be larger than anticipated. During the job, there were a couples issues, but Chris dealt with them in the proper manner. The clearance inspector said that the work was "upper middle tier" of the work that he has seen. read more

When the mold inspector still found evidence of mold in the air samples, true to their guarantee, First To Respond went further in their search for hidden mold, this time with a clean test result. Chris and his team did a fantastic job cleaning up, drying and helping coordinate all of the repairs on my mom's house after a pipe leak from the ceiling. I called Chris after a pipe break on the first floor ceiling had caused significant water damage in the walls, ceiling and floors of the house. Since my mom is elderly and has health issues I wanted to make the sure the job was done correctly, on time and in a clean way. Chris and his team were extremely professional. They arrived when promised covered up the damaged area and got to work. Chris kept me in the loop every step of the way and went out of his way to coordinate with the insurance company and the contractors doing the repairs to make sure the job was done correctly and on time. He then sent out Kevin and Eddie, who abated the contaminated soil, then laid down another soil material to take care of the moisture. They even provided a humidifier to speed the drying process. Our rental condo had some wet mold problem and water leaks inside the drywall's, which caused growth of mold. As first time landlord, I had no idea how to take care of the situation. One of our plumbers referred me to Chris, who was extremely helpful in educating me in the remediation process and answered questions in multiple phone calls without ever signing any contract. Of the 3 bids I received, his estimate was not the cheapest but fairly close to the lowest one. His estimate was very detailed and itemized. What made me to finally decide to hire his company was the fundraising appeal for a local charity on the signature line of his emails and website. With so many companies wanting to make quick profits and praying on uneducated customers, I felt that I could trust Chris' good human nature to back up his professional integrity. Thankfully I was not wrong. Even though the final cost of the repair was higher than expected due to additional areas with mold growth, he explained the extra costs patiently and professionally. When I complained about certain unexpected extra charges, Chris either justified them properly or removed the charges. He never raised his voice or temper in tense conversations. In the end, the repairs cost me a fortunate but I never felt cheated by the process. As the result, I also hired Chris to complete the restoration and repair processes. Given that I work during the day, he was able to supervise his hardworking employees to completion without my onsite involvements. I was especially impressed by his lead worker Jose. He worked late and even volunteered to fix certain minor breakages even though was not directly responsible for them. We had a hot water heater pipe burst in our attic accompanied with lots of water in the walls. First to Respond was here the morning after we called. When they explained what had happened, the scope of the work and the length of time, my hair stood on end. Considering that we had part of the master bath and our downstairs guest bedroom torn up, dried out and then put back together, the job was relatively painless. This company is so professional, very neat, punctual and responsive. The problem was completely corrected and the house looks as though nothing happened (actually, better than before because they were able to correct a few worn paint issues while they were repainting). Also, our homeowner's insurance will cover some of the expense, and the company is great about handling all that paperwork. Davin, who coordinated the job, was incredible -- smart, knowledgeable, courteous and professional. All of the workers were also very professional, polite and neat -- very important when people are working in your home.
