Tucked away in the between the Walmart and the old Marsh just north of 146th at 31 is First Watch. There are a few of them around town but this is the first time I've been to this one. Their Spring Menu is out and I HAD to try a couple of items. A friend told me about their "Million Dollar Bacon" so that was a given. 4 strips of hardwood smoked bacon, baked with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne and maple syrup drizzle make this a sweet and spicy start to your morning. Super sticky too, unless you use a knife and fork, but who does that?!?! Next up was their Lemon Blueberry Quinoa Pancakes. These are topped with a lemon blueberry butter and granola. My first experience with First Watch was last year when my dad was fighting for his life at UK hospital in Lexington Kentucky. I really enjoyed the experience in trying this new place. This location was a little small and had to wait but it was worth it. Great food with great quality ingredients. Farm to table and eco friendly. Sometimes I wish this place was opened 24 hours but that's for selfish reasons. I used to come all the time when it first opened, but after being open for awhile, I felt some of the wait staff rushed us out or were annoyed to be working. However, I recently started coming back in and have had the best service from Tiffany. She gave excellent recommendations, is kind to my children and is very pleasant just to be around. This is basic strip mall look but with excellent tasting food. First Watch just feels like a breakfast place and is open only until early afternoon. Went with my wife and mother-in-law, and two of us had breakfast/brunch items and one had lunch. I had the Chicken Pesto Hash, and it was wonderful. Grilled chicken, potatoes, onions and tomatoes, topped with two over easy fried eggs coated with pesto and then a flavorful amount of goat cheese. This was one of the best flavor combinations of any kind I have ever had. A generous portion, but not huge, so no guilt in finishing. Another had the Chile Chorizo omelet served with toast and a side salad. Very good, but not outstanding like the hash was. The third had a Ham & Gruyere Melt with a side of tomato basil soup. Very generous servings of both and also very well done. One of us ordered a mimosa, which was basically a glass of orange juice served with a single serving bottle of sparking wine. Pretty unimpressive, so I would stay away from the drinks and stick with coffee, hot coco, tea and such. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. You pay at a checkout counter on the way out. Not quite enough of a restaurant to get a full 5 stars, but worth the visit and repeating. read more

I am a First Watch fan and this is my favorite location. I am a regular here and I always ask for, Lisa. Lisa is the BEST server. I can always count on the food to be delicious and if it is not, the situation is rectified immediately. It is a casual breakfast, brunch and lunch spot with plenty of traditional options, healthy options and a rotation of creative seasonal items to try. My regular meal is the the Belgian waffle with eggs and bacon (which is always cooked perfectly). Speaking of perfect bacon, the new million dollar bacon is all kinds of joy in your mouth. I also occasionally enjoy the kale tonic; a healthy, tasty and refreshing beverage. With good food, good service and a pleasant atmosphere you really can't go wrong here. The food was good. Everything else was horrible. We went through multiple different servers, and the host was the one who took our order and did everything. A table got sat 5 minutes after us and got their orders in before us, we didn't have silverware until 5 minutes after getting our food, and the waitress put the bill on our table before asking us if we wanted to order anything else or needed any take out boxes. This was a great dining experience! We were downtown for the night and didn't want to deal with the breakfast crowds there, so we drove north of town, and I am so glad we did. Although there was a small wait, the parking was free and we visited some shops while waiting for our table. The food here is always delicious, but what made this visit exceptionally pleasant was our server, Michaela! She was SO incredibly sweet, attentive and made some awesome suggestions. Ok so I have to disclose...I maybe a little bias. I am from Sarasota FL and that is were First Watch go its start. I love this place. I always feel like I have eaten healthy but still indulged in something special. I love the juices. The fruit is almost always great also. The lines are long on weekends and like Mother's Day but that's because it's a great place and worth the wait. Use their new app to get on line before you get there. Last time I went we had donut holes with 3 different things to dip them in. A awesome jelly, chocolate syrup and some kind of cream. Their fruit and granola is always a good pick. Was so excited to find that Carmel had a first watch. I tried first watch for the first time in Sarasota FL and was really happy about the food/drinks. Just such a great spot for a weekend brunch. So I ordered takeout cuz I figured on a Sunday they'd be packed. Sure enuf when I went in to get my food they were completely packed with a line out the door. The food was exactly the quality and yumminess I remember. I ordered an avocado toast, the millionaire bacon, a butternut squash bisque and a carrot ginger chai. Total came to about $22. Like I said the food was all fantastic! Now the only reason I'm dropping to a four is because they forgot the drink order completely and in all the crowdedness I didn't notice as I grabbed my go to bag. The other thing was as I placed my order the girl said "ok see you then in 10 mins" which I thought was way too fast. And sure enuf when I got there it wasn't ready. 11:45 on a Sunday morning, not full yet so we were seated right away. They asked for our drink order very soon after and were back for our order, not to soon or too late. Great suggestions from our waiter when we asked. My butternut squash bisque was sweetly spiced (nutmeg ?)but not overwhelmed by the spice. Not so much my superfood kale salad as the carrots were a little weird, either stale, previously frozen or partially cooked at some point. They were supposed to be Maple roasted carrots but they just came off as stale. The kale was also just slightly limp, and it takes a long time for kale to go limp. So I question the freshness of some of the vegetables that went into the salad. I did really like the dressing though and the ingredients were very nicely balanced. RRR ordered that tomato bisque what you said was very good. He also got the Monterey turkey bacon half sandwich and said it was good as well. read more

We love this place and I apologize that I didn't take pics this morning but I thought I had already reviewed this place. Our waitress is always there when we go and I can never remember her name but she always remembers us. And she never forgets previous orders, likes and dislikes. She also even remembers conversations we had. How awesome is that. You MUST try the million dollar bacon. That is the best bacon you will ever eat and you will be hooked for life. The cheesy grits are awesome too. You can get both breakfast and lunch in the morning and they always have amazing soups. Today was broccoli cheese soup and they always have tomato bisque soup which is great as well. Their toast is awesome. I like the sour dough. They make their own jam and its delicious. Some sort of berries. Grilled cheese add bacon is amazing. They have something for everyone. Belgian waffle is delicious. I haven't tried anything here that wasn't amazing. They also have outdoor patio seating as well. Once you eat here no other place will compare. They are located in the same shopping center as Walmart and the old Marsh grocery store. Huge parking lot so no worries there. Dont forget the Million dollar bacon! They do have alternatives for those with gluten concerns. And there is no extra charge in most cases. read more

The Works omelette is superb! The staff at this location is superb! The kids meals are very filling and superb! Did I mention that this place is superb? My boys request this place for not just the amazing, fresh, and tasty meals, but the service from all is out of this world. I wish more places would screen their servers and test them on their customer service befitting placing them on the floor. This place just has the best customer service! However, after discovering First Watch on Yelp, and learning that it was actually a breakfast and brunch place, I was nicely surprised. Located is to the left of marsh and is snugged between many stores such as walmart and five below. The restaurant has both outdoor and indoor seating. The customer service I received was friendly and welcoming. Food came in a timely manner, and portions were fair. I ordered the eggs benedict, and presentation, taste and proportions were fair. The price for the eggs benedict was $9.99. I also ordered the belgian waffle, and was a bit disappointed about the waffle, as it was a single waffle, a small dollop of butter with a small amount of berry sauce. This belgian waffle was not too warm, as my friend noticed that the butter didn't melt on the waffle. This waffle was $7. Overall, First Watch is a great brunch place. I will definitely come back to try the hash and pancakes as they seem more filling. I would recommend this location for a friend/family reunion or a place for brunch. The only negative point is some foods such as the belgian waffle may not be worth the price, however overall First Watch was a nice restaurant. read more

First of all: What is up with the name? I can't think of a less appetizing name for a restaurant than "First Watch" if I tried. What does it even mean? I'm sure I can find out on the Internet somewhere if I searched, but ain't nobody got time for that. Despite the name, we visited on a weekday and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. We got the multigrain pancake, scrambled eggs and bacon; the toad in the hole (an egg in a piece of toast); and the kid's fruit crepe with granola. We liked all of them! It was a solid breakfast. The coffee was top-notch. The kid's beverage came in a cute take-away cup with a straw. They gave us crayons and a paper mat for the kid to draw on. The service was extremely friendly and fast, which is always appreciated by me because when you're dining with young children, you need a server who knows to get you your food fast, so you can eat fast, so you can get the heck out before the first meltdown happens. On the same vein, I generally like my check to be delivered when my food is delivered, and while our server didn't get it to us that fast, it came before I even had to think about it. On my way out, I noticed that they serve fresh juice, so we'll definitely be back to try that, as well as the other items on their menu. read more
