After reading all of the wonderful reviews I didn't think I could go wrong w/ this decision. It wasn't bad but I wasn't impressed. Wait times to be seated are 20-30mins. It's Sunday and it was brunch time. Thats understandable. The wait time for your food is a bit longer. We checked in at 11:09am and our plates were served at about 11:55. That includes the wait time. Ok so this is what made it an unimpressive visit... They delivered my boyfriends omlet w/ everything he asked them to NOT put on it. It wasn't the waitresses fault because our ticket clearly showed no tomatoes, no mushroom and no sour cream. But all 3 were included on his omlet. That kind of put a damper on the visit. I looooove breakfast! So I was excited about First Watch. I grew up in Pennsylvania and some of my fondest memories are of going to a local diner or Perkins Pancake and Steak House for breakfast. What kid doesn't adore silver dollar pancakes?? Anyway, hubby and I just moved to the Smyrna/Vinings area and we stopped at First Watch for breakfast during the week one day to try it out. Being new to this side of town, in my heart of hearts I was hoping it would be the place we would want to go every Sunday morning to create a new tradition with friends. The menu items are thoughtfully created, especially the omelets and the First Watch "Eggsclusive" items. I wish I could remember exactly what we ordered but I don't; when we go out for breakfast we always each get coffee and I probably got a traditional eggs-and-bacon breakfast and hubs usually gets an omelet, so that's likely the case. I never order juice and he rarely does, so I doubt we had any. I'll say that yes the food was good and I'd go back but only when I'm in the mood to pay a lot for breakfast. Our check was about $30 (before a 20% tip) for the two of us. For me, the value just isn't there enough to make it a regular stop. In summary, I own a business myself and worked in hospitality for 20+ years, so I know profit margin is important and the restaurant business is very tough. Still, I believe breakfast is one area where you can give great food AND value because the base of many breakfast dishes is eggs and/or flour, which are typically low food-cost items. I guess I wanted it to be more of the homestyle diner of my youth. Clearly a lot of other folks love First Watch but in my opinion, (much like J. Christopher's) it's good but it's just a smidge too high to go to all the time. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by First Watch. I haven't heard much about it, and am glad I decided to give it a try. The food was great, albeit a bit pricey, but the service could use some improvements. Note: if you sign up for their email program, you get a BOGO Entree coupon! We came in on a Sunday morning after realizing the fridge wasn't properly stocked for an in-home breakfast. We waited maybe 10 minutes before getting seated. I also need to comment on the disorganization of the host stand. It's also used as the payment stand for people on their way out, and the line gets long quickly and wraps around the host side of the station. When we arrived, we thought that was the payment only station, and had a moment of "Uhhh...?" before a staff member added us to the list. I think they need to add signs or something to make it easier to see what's going on. They should also consider adding a coffee bar to entertain people while they wait for a table. The service is why I have to knock this review down to 3 stars instead of 4-5. We sat at our table for a good 10 minutes before our server stopped by. She was an older lady, and extremely nice, but didn't appear to have good task management skills because we only saw her twice all morning: once to take our orders, and again to bring the check. It was hard to justify tipping her more than 15% just because she didn't appear to do a lot of the work: someone else ran the food out and brought us another water jug. I don't even recall if she said "thank you" or anything before we left. Before i get into the food: they leave water jugs on your table! I LOVE places that do that! I drink water like a fish, and it was nice to be able to pour another one when I was ready, versus flagging down a server. The food was great: very fresh and somewhat healthy. I had the Tri-Athlete: egg white omelette with green chiles, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes, served with house-made salsa, fruit, and an English muffin (with jelly on the side, I think house-made). Everything was flavorful, especially the mushrooms and salsa, and was exactly what I needed. I had some work to do that afternoon, and didn't want to get weighed down by greasy, heavy food. Boyfriend had the Parma Hash, recommended by our server, and he loved it. They put two over medium eggs (cooked correctly!) over seasoned potatoes, Italian sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and peppers with cheese. I had a bite and it was really good; maybe I'll get it next time. Also: they have a whole menu section dedicated to hashes. Finally, beware of the drink prices. Except for water, everything was priced at $2.40+. Coffee was $2.39/cup, more than Starbucks, and it only went up from there. So, if you go with a big group, you could be paying about $10 just in coffee. You could get a really nice bag of coffee at the grocery store for that amount, and it'll last you longer than your meal at First Watch. We will probably be sticking to water whenever we come. read more

This restaurant ALWAYS has a broken air conditioning system. I have gone here multiple times over the years....always "air conditioner broke yesterday". The service is always super slow as well. Sad way to run a restaurant because they have decent food and a good crowd. Step it up owner and replace your A/C system. Hire more people. Let me just preface this by saying that I ordered TO GO. That being said, I loved this place! First, the staff was great- very helpful, warm and welcoming. We ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, carrot cake pancakes, turkey sausage links, scrambled eggs and coffee. As my brain was apparently still asleep (I went a couple min before 8am on Sunday), I walked right out and forgot our coffee! However, the food was so good, it didn't even matter! We loved everything we had! It was all so fresh and delicious - ready in a flash, too! My carrot cake pancakes were AMAZING. Needless to say, we will definitely be back, most likely bringing more friends with us. Next time I won't forget my coffee! :-) read more

First watch was awesome. The food and menu is very light and diverse. Healthy options and plenty of fresh juices. The service was exceptional. You can eat indoors or outdoors and the location is perfect in Vinings. There is a wonderful lunch combo for 8 bucks. I think if you enjoy light and inexpensive this is a great place. read more

They are not limiting capacity. The dining room was packed and they were allowing people to crowd the hostess stand with zero social distance. With the exception of people wearing masks huddled together waiting inside for their table it was like there was no Covid the way they were operating. They should not be letting people wait inside and they need to cut their capacity in half. read more

I stopped by on my way from the gym to grab a pesto bowl to go. The staff was nice and personable, however, my meal was far from appetizing, as I had experienced during a previous visit. I live less than 3 miles away, made no stops and the traffic was light but to my dismay, once I reached home and sat down to eat, I discovered my food was lukewarm at best. Previously known as J Christopher's .. They bought the franchise out at this location as of August 2013 so same concept but lacking the same customer focus and attention. The place is in the right location thus all the traffic so they will keep the revolving door open as long as they improve on the customer experience. The wait can be long on the weekends so as they say the early bird gets the worm. The waiting area is small and only a few benches but you can wait outside if you want. WATCH THE HOST for skipping as I am certain they do that here as two other groups of three that came in after us were seated first and we said we would seat at any table available which was on a Sunday at noon so prime time crowds. The host and staff offered no explanation on the seating policy or wait list to explain who gets to be seated first. That did upset us. The wait for a table was about 30 minutes. The wait staff was nice and quick. We had a messy table so the bus guy came over a cleaned it again for us. The wait staff tag teamed to get the order in right away which is good to see team work! The food came fast enough hot and fresh! The coffee is not the greatest and tasted flat and burnt so not impressive coffee. The food is the normal breakfast run with hints of fruits and low fat options for better eating. They are comparable to IHOP type food but not as good as J Christopher's. The concept is very similar so almost like a copy cat but it is breakfast so only so many ways to make the food. The check out process is cumbersome and took five minutes as the line was long as some tables want to split the check and all pay separate. You can have the waiter take the bill to pay it or go up front but today they were so busy the waiter never came back to take the payment thus we stood in line to pay at the cashier. She was nice but again seems strange to allow people to pay at the front when they could just walk out not paying? The cashier said people are so honest in "Vinings" area of Atlanta so they are ok with people paying up front. Nice they are so trusting. In summary, the place is ok but I am not a fan nor would I recommend it to anyone! They have lack luster host, pick and choose favorites in peak seating times, unclean tables, and wait staff that is spread so thin they have to team up to get things done thus they are understaffed or greedy and do not want to give up tables for tips. It's Sunday morning... who thinks of making an online reservation for a breakfast spot? I'm very disappointed at how management handled their customer service in response to seating their customers. Although it was brought to my attention (after waiting 75 minutes) that people were being seated according to online or app reservations, it would have been helpful to know that over 50 were in front of us. We could have made other arrangements to eat. I have enjoyed the food and service in the past, but I have no need to come again. First time for bad food at First Watch. Went this morning- the Bacanado is a favorite-but this morning the bacon was burnt beyond eatable. Also the fruit cups are very lame. Is that chunk apple, pear? No it's unripe honeydew melon. And a chunk of pineapple and two grapes. Where are the strawberries or blueberries? I should not have to try and guess what the "fruit" is and they should be giving customers decent fruit. On the plus side- our waitress Essence was delightful and replaced the Baconado that was horrible. read more

Fresh and healthy brunch. They have a pretty decent selection on their menu. The portions are on the small side but that's ok if you are being health conscious:-) the parking is terrible in this shopping center so I would suggest early arrival on busy weekend mornings. read more

The hostess is rude and dismissive. One of the severs (white) passed right by our table and told her she did not want to serve us. So another server was kind enough to come and attempt to move us to his section. However we ended up leaving because we felt uncomfortable after seeing that racist hostess and server were absolutely being accommodating to the white patrons of the restaurant and completely changing their pleasant demeanor to dismissive when it came to the us. Busy weekend brunch hours can be a long wait so use an app to get in line in advance. My newlywed wife and I had our first brunch at this location when it was J Christopher. We were disappointed when we returned for our first brunch as husband and wife and J Christopher was gone. That disappointment quickly vaporized when the food came. First, the hot chocolate was bland like it was made with water. Seemed like they tried to hide the watered down taste with a huge dollop of whipped cream. I has the Italian omelet which was excellent. The tomato really added a delicious juiciness to each bite. I added sautéed onions that were delicious as well. Wifey had the Chickachanga. That was really flavorful with an extra kick from the chorizo. We ordered a banana crunch pancake which they specialize in making. OH. MY. GOODNESS. I will never waste time on an omelet again. Banana, cranberry, granola. Excellent. Went here for breakfast about a week ago. I think it used to be a J.Christophers because it had the same look to it. I had two plain pancakes and a side of bacon. The pancakes are made with a healthier batter and they are very big. They were good, but not the best I've had. The service was good and overall the experience was good. This location offers excellent food, and a unique vibe. My one and only complaint would be the waiting time for the food after being seated. This is the reason for the 4 star rating. I had one of the worst experiences ever at this location. I waited over 40 minutes for a to-go order that apparently had been sitting on a counter for at least 25 minutes. I ordered at the hostess stand and was never made aware that they wouldn't tell me my order was ready. I let the hostess know the bathroom had water all over the floor and the trash was overflowing. She said okay and proceeded to talk to the other hostess about how they aren't cleaning the bathroom. A little girl almost fell on her way out of the bathroom as I was waiting in line. I asked for the manager Winston and let him know my issues and that I wanted a refund and they could keep the food after wasting 40 minutes of my time. He proceeded to try to give me a refund for someone else's order that was less than what I paid. He then struggled to do the refund and then said he couldn't give me a receipt showing the full refund including the tip that I originally paid for a to-go order. I had to ask his name because he didn't seem too interested in giving it to me. Now I have to watch my bank statement to make sure I receive a refund for the full amount. This was my first time at this location and I had only ever been to the location in Phoenix, AZ. read more

I have been to this location 3 times and i will probably be back. The food i have had has always been very good and when the servers are at our tables they are often very friendly and helpful. The downside to this location is the service. There is always a 30 minute or more wait and the servers seem like they are only available to take your order and deliver your food. The past two times i have been i either had to get up to get syrup for my pancakes which they forgot to bring or get up to request water for our table of 4 that had been empty for 20 minutes. Hopefully the management will be able to fix this issue as it is really a very nice restaurant with excellent food. read more
