First time here for me and I loved it. My mom eats here regularly with her lady friends. My mom had her usual fish and chips. The service was spot on. I think her name was Nada. Hopefully I spelled it correctly. She was very attentive. The cashier Lily had suggested the Philly cheesesteak as I was not in the fish and chip mood. It was delish. Lily came tour table to ensure I was happy with the sandwich. That's good service in my book. I also had the fried clams. Yummy. I do have to mention the tartar sauce as it was one of the best tasting I've had in a while. I will return to this lovely lunch spot. read more

The menudo is the best. Cleanliness could be better not my favorite place to eat at but I do take out.

I love this place! The food is always amazing. But even more than the food the service is usually exceptional and I come a lot many times because of the excellent service. The owner, Angel is so down to earth. You wouldn't think he is an owner because from the moment you are to the end of your meal he is working hard doing everything his staff does. He cashiers, delivers food to your table, and when he has time comes to your table and checks in on you and chats for a little bit when he is not in a rush which he usually is but always makes sure you have a pleasant meal. Mary, the manager (they call her the sergeant), is extremely organized when she is there. She makes sure all the orders are processed and delivered correctly and takes care of any glitches that come up in any restaurant but she is always in control and takes care of things immediately! The service is usually incredibly amazing! I say usually because in my recent visits the service was incredibly horrible. I had the same server 2 different times who during my entire meal never checked in on me once!!! This last time I couldn't even give her my tip in person because she did absolutely nothing to earn it after she delivered my food! I purposely put my empty glass on the side of the table and after she passed me 9 times I finally told her she was ignoring me and she apologized and brought me a refill. She never checked in again so I gave the tip to another server to give her because I didn't want to. She did nothing to earn it. However, if you get Kayla or Isabella, you are in for a terrific meal experience. Both girls consistently check in on you and make sure your drink is full or simply ask if they can be of additional service. That is extremely refreshing. I also have to mention the server's assistant, Isaiah because he does more to attend me than most of the actual servers other than Kayla and Isabella. On three different occasions I have given the tip to him because he checked in on me throughout my entire stay while my server never checked in on me once. I wish he were a server. He is awesome! Anyway, you really have to come try this place out. Their menudo and their pozole is the bomb and I keep coming back because of their onion rings. If you are fortunate enough to be served by Kayla or Isabella and Isaiah, I promise you will have an excellent dining experience and I promise you will be back; no doubt!!! So I was working here in Salinas and I seen this fish and chips joint wasn't to sure if it was open or not . But anyways came in very clean and outside seating that looked nice to enjoy the shade . So this place food was really good and fast I had the fish and fries that were delicious and a side of clams strips which was a lot clams . I love when they have big portions and there not greedy . The girl here very friendly and always asking if I needed anything , that's what you call service. That's why I highly recommend this joint . I will be back thanks again ! read more

They do a good fry here. This reviews from memory and not on the spot. I got a three piece fish fry with an order of fries. The fries were good. Crispy. Really delicious. Plentiful helping of Potatoes. The fish was flaky and honestly perfect. There's just nothing more to say. They had the vinegar. They had the tartar. They had the lemon. They had the ketchup. They had the mayo. Order was prompt and hot. I honestly loved this place for serving just an honest Fish and Chip with all the fixings. 10/10. I don't review if it's not delicious. So hear me out. Don't let the name (Fish and Chips)) of the restaurant deceive you as I too was confused. I came here because my little sister said they had the best menudo. And I have been craving something as good as my mom's menudo. I'll fist start off with the super amazing host (Mary) who greeted us like family with a smile. She had smile when I told her it was my first time in their establishment and was craving some good menudo. It was as almost as if she already knew I was going to be blown away by the taste and flavors the popular dish. Subsequently after, our amazing looking menudo arrived with all the right sides that go with menudo and some really good tortillas. Prior to tasting the first spoonful, I could smell the aroma of the dish. Then here came the first spoonful, and every memory of my mom"s kitchen resurfaced, the heavenly taste of great food. I am going to write this review based solely on the Cajun shrimp that I just touched my lips. I was skeptical at first, I saw the pictures and the reviews, but didn't think anything of it. I order the Cajun shrimp and when it arrived it was beautiful. When I ripped the head off of my succulent shrimp and sucked the head juices out of it, I think my heart stopped for a beat. I really like this place. I'm surprised! The broken signage and well worn parking lot belie a very comfortable and spotlessly clean restaurant. Plus, if you park all the way behind the restaurant, you see a spotless dumpster area and back door. The fried food is excellent. This is only my first time there and second time eating so I don't know if the fish is cut in house and breaded and battered in house. However, the quality of the fish and the fries is wonderful. They also have non-fried Mexican food options as well as oysters on the half shell. I'll have to try these offerings soon. The interior is reminiscent of the old H. I gave this place 5 stars initially. Make no mistake, this is by far one of the best places in town for Menudo however, I was disappointed this weekend when I ordered 1 menudo to go and when I arrived they made me wait in the one line where they were taking new orders and for pick ups. They used to have two line, one for new orders and one for pick up. It took so long to get my food that when I got it it was cold. What's the purpose of ordering over the phone if you have to wait in the long line? Had I known, I might have ordered there and my food would have been hot: Very disappointing indeed. I heard about this place from a coworker of mine, who raved about it. Being that the place is called Fish & chips, I had to try the fish and chips. You have the choice of cod vs. another cornmeal breaded fish. I opted for the cod. My bf got the sampler platter that had calamari, shrimp, fish stick. The platters came with sides of cole slaw, or mac salad and french fries. The dishes were big, but filled with so much oil, I couldn't eat all of my meal. I thought everything was very bland, lacked salt or any kind of seasoning. It was just BLAH. Esp the fish. The calamari rings and fried shrimp were good, but againn very oily. The decor of the place looks pretty outdated. Could prob use a new paint job to liven up the place, as well as new decorations to fit a salior/seafood joint theme vs. the boat pictures hanging. I had the 3 piece Fish with fried and cole slaw with a large menudo and remain very satisfied with my meal. Generous portions all around given the price, always a plus. The menudo was rich and tasty, the best I've had to date. The fish pieces were sizable, larger than pictures initially suggest, were fried well and went very well with the cool and sweet (if small; a small ice cream scoops worth) side of cole slaw. The rest of the dinner plate was filled with fries to finish it off. The meals came with warm tortilla, cut lemons, chopped onions, cut cilantro, red peppers, ketchup, cocktail/hot/tartar sauce along with the standard table dressing of pepper, etc. Plenty of small booths all around with some larger configurations, groups of up to four seem ideal. I had the 3 piece fish and chips and hubby had the fried catfish. I got 3 pieces of fish with a big ole pile of fries and macaroni salad. My fish was hot and crunchy, fries were good too. The macaroni salad was lacking flavor and the macaroni itself was overdone on the mushy side. Overall not bad, and cheap only 8.45. Hubby got 6 pieces of cat fish and a big old pile of fires with the macaroni salad as well. He said the fish and fries were good. Why did he get 3 more pieces of fish for the same price? Clean restaurant and friendly staff but was a bit disappointed ordered the birria and was served a flat dinner plate not a bowl like when you order menudo. When asking why the cashier commented that they have 2 ways to serve the birria the plate or the bowl and we don't tell customers there is 2 ways .I don't believe a customer should be trying to guess something like this .It would be better to be asked how you want it served when a customer orders.The birria is more dry in the plate form . read more

This little place is great! I've never bee disappointed with anything I've ordered. My favorites include the shrimp cocktail, fish and chips and the menudo. I will only eat menudo made by my Mom or Aunties. However Fish & Chips North Main passes my test for excellent menudo! And, I can get it any day of the week! The owner and staff are always pleasant. Fish and Chips is definitely worth stopping by for the food alone! Not usually a seafood lover but their clam chowder is superb. My daughter and I came in on a Friday night... we needed a place to eat seafood for lent (I haven't been here for years). As we were eating my daughter needed to go to the restroom, she is young so I had to go with her. I let the waitress know we were going to the restrooms and we would be back to finish our meals. As my daughter and I walked back to our table... 6 servers, 1 manager and 1 busser surrounding our table. As we walked up the manager apologized right away, said he is making our plates again. Apparently the busser thought we left and took our plates. They were very apologetic and very embarrassed. The manager was very nice and wanted to make sure we were okay through the time we were there. The servers were really nice and sorry about it as well. This is our first time here, I would give this place a 3 star because 1) atmosphere is cool and chill.. Basic atmosphere. I did expect it to be more awkward, but the seating is better than I thought. 2) service was okay, the waitress filled up our drinks and comes once in a while to check on us 3) food was good, but not the best. I guess from reading the other reviews.. The food could be a hit or miss. I got the calamari combo and the fish was bland like others have stated, but it didn't bother me because I just dipped it in the tarter sauce. The calamari was alright, I wasn't a big fan. You get a lot of shrimp...too many to count. ~Very nice staff and always make you feel like they know you. Cons: ~I dont really care for their fish n chips....not my fav. ~Always super crowded, but cant hold that against them Honestly: Their menudo is so good that even if it was the only I liked about the place I would still give them 4 stars...or maybe even 5.
