**Cocktail Review Only** Updating my previous review, this is for just the cocktails. I had a drink here previously and it was really good, however order at your own risk. Or perhaps ask them who's making it first as it varies widely depending on who is behind the bar. (Hint, if it's the owner, hard pass). She tried to convince us my drink was a double, but it barely had enough liquid with all the ice to constitute a double anything. The food is still amazing as well as the service, but maybe they should leave the drink making to a professional. Also, drink prices on the menu are not reflected correctly, an upgrade to a double says it's $3 but we were charged $4.25 which added insult to injury. read more

June 26, 2026. The customer service is top notch! Great food, smiles and we felt like they were happy to see us. Food on the buffet was hot, as it should be. Probably the best fried chicken I've ever had! The porkchops and gravy was better than my mom's ever was to be honest. Restaurant was clean. They usually have two proteins on buffet for lunch, but on Sundays, they may have three or four. Will definitely go back again. read more

Great night for date night, and stuffing your belly!! Beautiful inside decor and lighting. I could tell it was family owned and operated, and ultra organized. Started with delicious cornbread, and crab dip,, shared chicken Alfredo, twice baked & loaded potatoes, and chunky applesauce. Also shared broiled shrimp and flounder! Oh my,, perfect!! 100%!! And huge portions. Waitress was the best,, updating us on food status, drink refills, and cornbread replenishment,, all with a smile & humor! I've always loved the lunchtime salad bar here, but dinner on Saturday completely blew me away. The Butter Chicken was unreal-- delicious sauce, tender chicken, fluffy rice, and flavorful naan. I've always loved Indian food and have honestly been sad we didn't have any nearby, so my full stomach and I are feeling incredibly lucky that the new owner and chef have come to Belhaven and brought this dish with them. Do yourself a favor and order it. You will NOT be disappointed. PS the Garlic Parmesan wings were also tasty (and huge!) but that Butter Chicken... just wow! read more

On 12-31, myself and a party of 5 had the worst possible experience at this establishment. 3 of us ordered fried flounder, expecting a golden brown, and crispy delight. Instead we were served a highly undercooked, greasy, soggy mess! One of our party tried the buffet and wound up with 2 chunks of alleged hamburger steak, that could not be pried apart with a crowbar, and the one bite they tried tasted like cardboard. The waitress called over, who in turn called over one of the owners, that immediately began to blame her distributor. Don't waste your time at this sorry excuse for a restaurant, Cheap and frozen is what they serve. read more

I have ate at this restaurant all my life. Well it is now under new ownership. Don't expect thr friendly service or same food. We ate the Sunday buffet and was very disappointed. I was told my service dog needed to eat off a paper platedue to health issues. Which that was fine. But the host should of handled that not the kind waitress. The new owners are from Arabic decent so I'm wondering how that will work in our little country town. read more

I was very disappointed. First they brought out the wrong appetizer so we had to wait longer for the correct one. Then we waited for what seemed like hours watching tables seated after us receive their food just to have the waitress say a funny story the child's grilled cheese and my grandsons steak were burnt and they had to redo them. I didn't think it was a funny story with all the waiting. Then the food finally comes and my daughter and my fries were on the cool side and our fried shrimp was chewy and on the cool side. Her fish was dried out and mine didn't look completely cooked. Very disappointed will never return. read more

We went last night, the seafood was amazing! We split a large Trawler plate with a good variety of meats. Fiancé loved the crab cake but my favorite was the scallops. Oysters and flounder were also really good. It's a little pricey but for fresh N.C. seafood definitely worth it. read more

What a find! Super nice people. Especially Danielle! They take their covid precautions seriously AND make you feel welcome. The food was awesome. I had the flounder plate and G had the shrimp basket. We enjoyed the lunch buffet at this place on veterans day! They had chicken, apples, meatloaf, squash, corn bread, fresh salad bar, string beans, etc... you definately left full! I was exceedingly disappointed in my latest experience at Fish Hook's. We called to specifically ask if the restaurant was following COVID precautions and was told they were. We should have exited upon our arrival but decided to proceed to our table with our masks on. Not one employee was wearing a mask and continued to be that way for the whole evening. All 3 in our party are in the higher risk categories and have been quite cautious. While the food met expectations the staff greatly concerned us by not following proper and expected guidelines. This was our go to seafood spot for years but for our last few visits the shrimp and oysters have been terribly overcooked. After the first we figured it was just an anomaly but three times in a row makes it just the way it is. Three of us came in tonight from Edenton on my friend's birthday to learn that everything was closed on Tuesday except this restaurant. So what! It was really good! The only problem was there was no malt vinegar for the excellent fish and chips.... The key line lime pie and the caramel espresso cheesecake were wonderful...we will be back. read more

We ended up here on a Tuesday for dinner because all the other restaurants in town are closed on Tuesday. What a great find! I had the fried shrimp which had the perfect amount of crisp and my friend had the crab cakes broiled. She said they were full of crab and no bell pepper, super good. We both had the squash casserole, which was rich with cream and cheese. I had the twice baked potatoes that were also rich in a mashed version and really good. The tea is amazing. I had dinner at Fish Hooks and had some of the best seafood since I was in Alaska. The local seafood was so fresh. I had shrimp and crab cake combo with squash casserole and green beans. The shrimp were so big and cooked perfectly and the crab cake was mostly fresh crab meat. Awesome food. My sister had the small trawler platter. It came with piece fish, shrimp, scallops, orysters with homemade cole slaw and squash casserole too. It was fried with a light batter that did not overpower the beautiful fresh seafood. A 2 for this trip. Would usually give a 5. They had a very large party of 35 in the separate room and a pretty full dining room for a Tues night so I can see how this may have impacted my visit. It took longer than usual to be seated even though I was the only one in line and it took longer than usual to get served at my table which indicates to me not enough wait and bussing staff for the volume of business. Considering that wait, my meal did come out quicker than I expected(guess the large party had been served theirs) however the entire plate was barely luke warm. The shrimp were smaller and fewer than usual and were really, really tough. I will say that is unusual based on my many visits in the past where food has been spot on. Now for trying to check out! I waited, along with every other party in my half of the restaurant to get checked out. I waited at least 30 minutes as all 35 people were checking out at the same time. There was only one gentleman checking people out. It took longer to check out than it did to get my food and eat. I would strongly recommend that with large parties, Sunday's and when very busy that they have a "pay at the table" option with credit cards with an iPad as many restaurants do now days. That would have given the group of 35, the option to check out as they finished their meals as opposed to all at once creating a huge wait not only for those 35 but for the entire restaurant. As a matter of fact that option for all patrons would be a good idea. The personalized friendly service at the check out is great but when people are ready to go they are ready to go and do not expect to have to wait yet once again. All that being said, I will be going back as I do believe that this was situational but hope that management will consider these recommendations. read more

We got carry out so no idea as far as in service but the staff that we interacted with on the phone and at the register were very friendly. The place is very clean, 98.5. The lady at the front says that they have gotten 100 before. The food we got was broiled and really good, oysters not so much broiled. Fish Hooks Cafe offers a limited selection for lunch but does offer a buffet that has a greater variety, but not seafood for lunch, on a Wednesday. That being said, the shrimp plate was outstanding. I was a little confused about the "Sweet Potato Biscuits" as they really did not have much sweet potato flavor to me. Service was top notch and right on time. My first and only Salad. Stopped by this place as I had a full meal for lunch and just wanted a salad and a drink. What a mistake. I order their special salad as it was listed with a variety of fresh vegetables. Boy was that a joke. The vegetables were 3 each of 1/2 slices of tomato, cucumber, and 4 rings of onion, several croutons place on a small bed of Iceberg lettuce and a few slivers of red cabbage. I hate to think what the side salad was. When the waitress asked was the salad good, I explainded my disappointment. She returned from the kitchen and said, the cook said that that was the way he made it. I dont eat seafood here as it is always overcooked. Next time only a drink. read more

A trip to Belhaven isn't complete w/o a stop at Fish Hooks! We usually go for the oysters, scallops, and shrimp, either broiled or fried, and are never disappointed. I must also confess a fondness for the side dishes, which often include a decadent cheesy veg casserole. read more

We visit this area several times a year and have always eaten at Fishhooks since it opened here. It never disappoints and consistently impresses. It's a great combination of home cooked sides with quality seafood. The portions are generous and so is the service. A must visit if you are in the area. read more

OMG! We literally stumbled upon this place after another place was closed. Weekday, home style buffet was to die for . YUMMY Mac and cheese, perfectly fried chicken, smokey green beans, the real deal fried okra, cheesy broccoli casserole, scalloped pineapple, and did I say fried chicken!? My wife and I stopped by there after visiting a near by church and it was recommended by one of the members. It blew my socks off. While i was disappointed by the pull pork barbecue, the shrimp were absolutely amazing. The service was friendly and on point. It seemed like many of the locals frequent this place. I've eaten here twice. The food is always over cooked, the sides are served in little plastic bowls and the prices are outrageous for the very mediocre country cooking that they serve. Why this place is always packed I have no idea. There are two new, excellent restaurants right around the next corner. Don't waste your time here. read more
