I really loved this place! We had a great dinner with the family. I tried the mahi fish stew. I really like the tomato based soups and this stew had a great flavor with chunks of fish and potatoes, it was delicious. One of my daughters tried the fried crab sandwich that she enjoyed. My wife had the blackened salmon and it was very good. My son really liked his mahi-mahi fish tacos. All the way around the table every one enjoyed their meals. I wish I could remember the waitresses name because she was great with a fantastic attitude. I am going to have to come back for more of that stew before we leave the area later this week. I'd recommend planning to eat here during off hours, meaning not at typical dinning times, as the wait can be absolutely crazy and there's not much waiting space to hangout in. There's no reservations and no waiting space inside, so you will be chilling out in the humidity until your table is ready. The views are beautiful and the food is actually pretty delicious, but the space is small and very touristy, especially on nice weather days. I've tried to get a spot here for dinner a couple times in the past, once in Summer and once in late Fall and both wait times for a group of 4 were around 1 - 1.5 hours. However, a friend and I went around 6 pm one night in the early Spring and snuck a couple seats at the bar with just a 5 minute wait. So smaller parties may have better luck grabbing those first come first serve seats at the bar inside (though there is no view there). The servers usually seem pretty stressed out too trying to get everything done quickly in the heat and keep things flowing. We didn't have the nicest bartender in the world either, and my food came out about 25 minutes after my friend's did which was strange because we pretty much ordered the same thing. It was just a little chaotic, I guess. I ordered the cake cakes on a pretzel bun with curly fries and a citrus beer from Wilmington Brew Co. I wouldn't recommend the beer, though the size was more than plentiful. The fries were out of this world good, like better than I'd ever had before. And the crab cake "burger" was amazing! So salty and fattening but absolutely scrumptious. If you're into Southern food and fishy goodness that "burger" really hits the spot. The menu had a small but nice variety of typical seafood and American style options for reasonable prices considering the location. We also got the Key Lime Pie for dessert which is huge and so whipped - pleasantly feeds 2-4 people. Parking is a little bit limited but all free once you find a spot. Drive around a little bit and look for tow signs in the neighborhoods, and you'll be good. This is located right on the Intracoastal waterway so if you're lucky enough to get a seat outside you'll be able to watch the boats go by and admire the beautiful sunsets on the water. Locals, I believe you are able to dock here or at least close by if you're coming in from the water. The outdoor seating also has plastic covering in the case rain does surprise to make a surprise appearance as it tends to do in NC. Hopefully that's more than enough info for ya! This is a cool spot but it's also a touristy area during on season and can get way too crowded. I'd recommend it as a nice casual spot in comparison to the other restaurants near by the water. Probably my favorite go to because it's not too "fancy" or expensive, but still has good food, decent options and a beautiful view. read more

When choosing a restaurant in a beach town, I usually refuse to settle for a place that does not have a view. Luckily, the Fish House Grill is right on the canal and has a huge patio area to accommodate plenty of people to eat with a view. I went here mid-afternoon on a Friday, and was surprised that the restaurant had a decent amount of patrons at the time. I assume they get very busy in the evening at their peak dining hours, but I didn't have to wait at all the be seated. In fact, I received my food within 5 minutes after ordering. The wait staff was friendly and courteous. No complaints there. I got exactly what I expected from the food-- decent portion size, nothing special but definitely what I was craving from a seafood restaurant. This place is located at wrightsville beach, on the canal side of the bridge - it's nice to be able to eat outside and enjoy the scenery. The food is mostly fried, I enjoyed the crab melt on pretzel bun - I'd eat it again Appetizer was crab dip w/ blue chips and my wife got a white fish. 2 entrees and an App left us with an over $70 bill, so I think they were overpriced for the fair. read more

We were in town visiting the beach & a guy at a store recommended this restaurant to us because of the crab sandwich. There was plenty of free parking next to the business and in a parking lot across the street. When we initially called we were told that we had to wait 45 minutes for a table on a Sunday evening. But when we got there we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. We were seated outside and got a partial view of the water. There were several boats docked near the restaurant. It was a nice day to sit outside but the flies were a little annoying. The restaurant is dog friendly. The staff wore masks while they were serving us. My friend ordered the dinner special for twenty dollars which was mahi mahi with Jasmine rice and broccoli. A small piece of mahi mahi was served with the dinner. My friend was still hungry after eating. They thought the food was good but didn't think that it was worth the price. I opted for the crab cake platter that was served with fries and a side of coleslaw. You have the option to get other sides but many of them have upcharges. The coleslaw was a little bland. The French fries were good and seasoned with lemon pepper. It actually tasted good. The crab cakes were decent but I would probably get another dish if I ever came back. When we got our food it was warm and not hot as though it had been sitting for a while. Our server was attentive in the beginning but not so much later during our visit. Cockroaches, good drinks, decent food. I came here with 2 other people; we called to see if they did reservations, and was told they didn't. So we get there, and there's a 20 min wait. Not bad, so we go to the bar (as directed by the hostess). The inside smelled very off. Not like cleaners, seafood, or alcohol. It just had a smell that I was happy I was wearing a mask to cover it up a little. There was 1 menu on the bar. I was shocked they didn't have it on the wall or a board, considering how lots of people touch menus. This menu was a sticky, laminated piece of paper. The bartender was definitely over-worked. There were other waiters coming by to talk to her or see if she needed help, but they didn't seem to know what to do and would leave shortly after getting there. I wasn't comfortable when they would come over and take their masks off to talk. I get it, wearing a mask all day isn't fun, but I do that everyday at work. The bartender was friendly and told us the names of the drinks she was making. We ended up getting 2 Painkillers and 1 Saint Eddy's. The Painkiller was good, one of the group members said it was a little tart, but the other said he'd order it again. It comes in a glass about the size of a normal water glass. The Saint Eddy's comes in a short glass. It tasted like I was eating a grapefruit. It was delicious, could use less ice as it watered it down a lot, but it was very good. We were then called and brought to a table by the back door where the waiters and waitresses go in and out. The tables by the door could use a fan, as the building's sides stop the breeze. There was a table across from us, HUGE party of about 10. They were quiet, but I wish they were a little further from us. The waitress wore a mask, so that was very good. I ordered the Fried Shrimp and Crab Cake combo ($20) with honey mustard, another member got the Ceasar Salad ($8) with shrimp (additional $8), and the other got the Shrimp Po Boy ($13). We also got the Crab Dip appetizer ($12). The Crab Dip came with 8 pieces of thin, baked bread with garlic. It was really good! The Fried Shrimp and Crab Cake combo was also really good! The curly fries were lemon peppered, paired well with honey mustard. The crab cake was moist, soft, and flavorful. The coleslaw was delicious. I would definitely order this again. The Ceasar Salad with shrimp was also very good. The romaine lettuce wasn't wilted and had the perfect amount of dressing. Very big salad portion with about 15 pieces of shrimp. Definitely would get again. The Po Boy, this was a different story. "A bowling alley po boy" is was it was described as. More than half was left on the plate; it didn't look or taste appetizing. Definitely wouldn't recommend or get again. The waitress recommended the crab melt since it's a big portion and very heavy. We'll have to try that next time. Now for the worst part. As we were nearing the end of our meal, a HUGE cockroach crawled across the banister right in front of us. Then another crawled out of the corner of the deck under an umbrella. Then another crawled out of this shelving area by the right side of the entrance. THEN ANOTHER CRAWLED ON MY FOOT! We left IMMEDIATELY after that. As we were leaving, we were walking by the side of the restaurant (the only path to the entrance) and a cockroach jumped into our path. Myself and four friends had dinner on a Tuesday evening during off season, so parking wasn't an issue, but I imagine it must be other times. This also meant we opted to eat inside, so I can't vouch for the outdoor dining experience. We ordered the crab dip to share. I don't like anything seafood related, but MAN was that dip delicious. We paid extra for more garlic toast to dip in it. For my meal, I had the Islander. I found it a little heavy and difficult to eat, but the flavor was there. I especially enjoyed the fries, which had the perfect kick with their seasoning. Our service wasn't bad nor outstanding. One order was grilled salmon platter which came with broccoli and seasoned rice. 2nd order was mahi sandwich on sesame bun with fries. Salmon was very good - flaky and cooked well. Broccoli was bountiful and well cooked (slightly Al-dente). Rice was a little dry, although seasoned well. Mahi sandwich was well seasoned (maybe a tad salty on the blackening spice), but very good. First time coming to Fish House Grill during the annual floatia event. Every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there is a parade of boats that decorate to compete for the monetary prize (and bragging rights). Unless you own a boat or sneak somewhere all the route which is mainly residential properties except the bridge that's probably packed, a restaurant overlooking the waterway is your best option. So that's what we did. Fish House Grill is tucked away on a side road off 74 and under the bridge that takes you over to Wrightsville Beach. They have limited parking so beware of busy days and times of the year. There's a bar and some booths and tables inside for dining as well as an extensive deck half open, half covered with additional seating. They also have an area with a few corn hole boards to entertain people while they wait. Considering we were there for an event, it was busy but not stressful. We made the best of it and ordered a round of drinks at the bar and took them outside while we waited for our table. The staff is very efficient and friendly despite the terror of clientele they must put up with you know, the pretentious, holier-than-thou types that have a lack of respect and/or empathy for anyone other than them or people they might care about Our table was is view of the water which was a bonus. Our server was very professional and thoughtful. The food was surprisingly very delicious. I got the blackend cod or Mahi Mahi entrée that comes with rice, beans and a veggie. Everything was hot, seasoned well, flavorful and cooked perfectly! For drinks,they have a little bit for everyone ranging from domestic and local craft beers, wines, and house cocktails. Ok so on this strip of road there is bridge tender, fish house, and dockside. We always thought that these restraunts were just like getting more expensive the further you go down. Starting with dockside at $$ fish house at $$$ and bridge tender at $$$$. We were pleasantly surprised to see how incredibly cheap the fish house was!! And it's soo much more casual than dockside. Mahi chowder I thought it was pretty good...my boyfriend LOVED it :). Mahi Sandwich Cooked very well and great flavor...I added extra lemon and loved the extra acidity. Went here tonight and had an awful experience, first time in my life I've ever returned a dish. I ordered the soft shell crab platter and got the picture below. That right there is 23 dollars, I was expected to pay 23 bucks for 2 tiny crabs and some fries. My Mr. found the Fish House Grill on Yelp. We were looking for a dog friendly environment and fresh seafood. This place looked solid, so thought we would give it a try. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted by our server. She took our drink orders right away. We started off with some craft beers. Wilmington Brewery and Wicked Weed. Both at a reasonable price plus the selection on the menu was simple yet paired well with the meals. For dinner, I ordered the pick two combo which came with coleslaw and curly fries. I got the fried shrimp and crab cake . My Mr got the blackened Mahi Mahi sub clam chowder instead of the fries (2.00 extra) with coleslaw. Love love love our meals! The best crab cakes I've ever had! Seasoned and prepared well! I didn't have to dip it on the sauce.. it didn't need it. I loved the breading on the shrimp! Super delish! And I even tried my Mr's clam chowder and Mahi Mahi! This is another spot my lady and I discovered right here on Yelp and were glad we found it. It's an excellent spot for fresh, delicious seafood and more. Plus they have a great selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks. I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi with a cup of clam chowder and side of cole slaw while my lady had the seafood combo (fried shrimp and crab cake) with curly fries and cole slaw. Everything tasted epic from first bite to last! My mahi-mahi came with tartar sauce but I didn't even need it because the fish was prepared so well and tasted perfect just by itself. For that day, they offered Mahi Mahi. And to accompany it, I tried their clam chowder. *Clam Chowder: Filled with a generous amount of clam and potato creamy goodness. I'd def recommend a large cup (because the small one isn't enough). *Blackened Catch of the Day: Hey, shawtttyyyyy. The flesh tastes so delicate each bite easily fell off. Also, the bun looked like one from a Big Mac and the lettuce and tomato were standard. And since I wanted to eat more carbs, the meal also came with a big helping of world-peace making lemon pepper curly fries Regarding their service, my super friendly server came throughout the meal to check on me and wore a friendly smile.
