Second time here, second time underwhelmed. The team went out for an evening dinner and some camaraderie. Very good time with everyone. A smattering of different opinions on the food. The menu is fairly deep and wide. Obviously, with the name of the restaurant, they offer a good variety of seafood options. Their specials for the evening both were seafood. Like the last time here they recommended the Chilean Seabass. What a shock, it's the most expensive item on the menu. Three people got it, they all said it was OK to good. I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi. By the description, it sounded good, I've had it other places, I've enjoyed it. Well, there's always a first time that it wasn't very good. That bs this time. To start, the portion size is decent. I understand we were a fairly large group, but they need to figure out a way to bring the food out at least warm. The most disappointing part of the fish was how dry it was. The second most disappointing part about the fish was how it lacked blackened seasoning. One other person also got the same menu item and had the exact same comments. I did start out with a side salad and it was acceptable. The lettuce was not too flimsy. It included goat cheese and candied pecans. Their house dressing, which was a vinaigrette, tasted bitter. We ordered five different appetizers. No super compliments on the any of them. I didn't try them all. I did try the crab cakes, they seemed to be missing crab. I paid the bill. When the server asked me, how was everything? I replied "not very good". She didn't care to ask what the issue was. read more

My husband chose this place to celebrate Father's Day...so we made RSVP for 3 at 6 pm on a Saturday night. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't full when we first arrived...but gradually filled up. We started with a huge order of Brussels Sprouts as appetizer...and it was a good thing that this appetizer was so filling, because it took FOREVER for our entrees to arrive. We waited well over 30 minutes! Same with our desserts...at least 15-20 minutes? Not sure if they were short-staffed in the kitchen or what, but the overly long wait was a bit unnerving. For our entrees, we got the Lobster Pot Pie, Seafood Curry and this Chicken & Pasta dish...and luckily, all were pretty good. I was actually quite surprised with the curry dish...almost tasted like authentic Indian food! However, the presentation was a bit sloppy. Just look at each and every dish we received! Absolutely ZERO effort in making the dishes look good. Same with the dessert...this Cheesecake was good enough, but looked somewhat bad. It could have used a fruit on top at the very least?? We've always liked the ambiance at this restaurant...but the music was missing. Or on so low that it just sounded like mumbled noise. Overall, we enjoyed the foods (as always), but several things were off... Speed of service, ambiance (no or low overhead music), and super-sloppy presentation of foods! Our waitress was very friendly...but the rate of service was really bad. Not sure if that was poor waitressing or poor kitchen staffing. Thank God the foods were good enough...because basically everything else was sub-par on this night. I've always felt that if this restaurant tried just a bit harder, it could easily be 4-5 stars, but from my repeated experience, something is always amiss. We tried Fish Market for lunch/brunch on a Sunday. We were in town to explore and came upon this lovely place in Baxter Village. Beautiful atmosphere and pleasant staff greeted us and we were promptly seated. They have a nice brunch menu with a good deal of variety. We were able to choose a spinach dip appetizer that was good. It was really not enough to share but, this being our first visit here, we were not certain of portions. It was a very tasty dip though, so a good choice. It was a hot day, so we had a couple rounds of iced tea. The service was a bit slow for us, but honestly it just seemed like our table. Our server seemed very overwhelmed with tables, so not sure what the story was. Food took long to come out too, I thought, but it is a busy Sunday, so I try not to blame anyone here. Food was tasty, although portion were not consistent. I saw a plate of chicken and waffles and it was overflowing. One of us order the chef special Benedict and the portion was meager. It was the Benedict with a small pile of potatoes. Tasty, but a little small. Fish and chips were nice sized and good, lobster omelette was delicious I heard, and I got the chicken salad stuffed avocado with a side of hard boiled egg. Very filling, so I shared some avocado with the person who got the Benedict. Our main complaint was really the waiting between getting food, waiting for drink refill, waiting and waiting for the server. I don't think we were offered dessert, not that we planned on it, but it would have been good to be asked. Place was busy so clearly locals like it. We met friends here on a Saturday night. Baxter had a Fall Festival going on, so there were people on Halloween costumes all over the place, which was actually a lot of fun. We had a delightful meal. The service was very good. Attentive, but not pushy. We had a cocktail and tried the crab dip and Bang Bang Shrimp for appetizers. The shrimp were good and the dip was great! Warm, cheesy and plenty of crab! My wife had the Brown Butter Diver Scallops. They were cooked perfectly with tremendous flavor. Or friends tried the daily special and the Seafood Ravioli. Both said their dishes were excellent. I had the stuffed flounder and it exceeded expectations. A little cheesecake for dessert and four stuffed, happy people waddled off into the night! read more

This place is such a gem in a quiet little town. My server was Nina and although the bar area got extremely busy, she took great care of me. Everything was delicious starting with the Caprese salad...perfectly balance of flavors caused this to totally disappear. Be very careful with the bread they serve...you can easily consume multiple servings it is so good. The Chilean Sea Bass was perfectly cooked and the compliment of the ginger risotto, Asian tomato relish, and sweet soy glaze made for a wonderful dish. Great service and incredible food!!! read more

So it turns out the young Chef in the back and I are kindred spirits. I had the day's special, which was a blackened salmon served over sweet potato grits. These grits were so delicious I had to ask Manager Joseph about them when he gracefully checked in on our table (not hovering, overbearing or over questioning, just a quick, quiet pulse check). The Chef had some leftovers and decided to get creative. And boy, did he create! It was like candied yams and fluffy grits in one dish. If you cook, you know that some of the best 5-star meals were made from scraps, an artistic mind and a palate for deliciousness. I would love to meet him one day when it's not so busy, but I know talking food with me the poor guy wouldn't get any work done. Oh, and I will not discredit Dawn, our Server. Visited this place for a company dinner and this place had some good solid food! Didn't get to check the entire menu as our company had a preselected meal list. I chose the salmon and it was cooked perfectly and the side of squash was good. I had the crab soup as an appetizer and it was flavorful and overall good taste. Solid choice for seafood just over the border from Charlotte. It's located in cutesy Baxter Village in Fort Mill. From the outside, it looks like an old school Southern home with a front yard and a sweeping porch. Very stately and decidedly nautical inside. We started with the fried Brussels sprouts. These almost wrecked my appetite. So. Very. Tasty. Perfectly caramelized with crispy edges and tossed in a "TUH-die-for" sweet soy sesame sauce. For the entrees, we opted for the special of the day, grilled swordfish with garlic mash and string beans. Also tried the fig glazed salmon over roasted root vegetables and an ancient grains blend with feta cheese, walnuts, and balsamic glaze. Both dishes had incredible flavor with the fig glaze and aromatic ancient grains with its hint of citrus taking the top prize. Miss me with the feta tho. Fish was a little overcooked and the mash was a bit clumpy. But again, the flavors were there. We couldn't leave with ordering dessert after being told they're made in-house. You will NOT regret the walnut brownie a la mode. Just make sure you get a light entree to make room for these calories. The brownie was warm, rich and oh so decadently chocolately against the creamy chill of the vanilla ice cream. These are the things of sweet dreams. The apple crisp a la mode was a distinct second place. Good enough, certainly. But the oatmeal topping was a little too crumbly. Would've like a little more fat (read: butter) to give it a little more adhesiveness and more of a "crust topping" kind of feel. Felt like I was just eating the kind of granola you'd find in a yogurt parfait. Helpful, friendly service which you can tell has been trained to work as a team. My wife and I made reservations this past Friday. We were seated immediately at a very comfortable table. We had cocktails beforehand but noticed their lounge is spacious , we will be sure to have pre dinner drinks there next time. Our server was very attentive and helpful with menu choices. There happened to be the YOCO Trail week w/ special menu items at several restaurants in the area. So we were able to each choose an appetizer, entree and dessert for $35 each. We had the tortillas with lobster dip, a strawberry salad and they served warm bread with a tomato and olive oil sauce. I ordered shrimp and grits and my wife had the salmon. We also chose the key lime pie and chocolate mousse cake. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!!! We will definitely be back. Highly recommend! read more

We finally decided to try out the Fish Market for brunch one Sunday with my mother-in-law being in town. I have been conflicted on going here because the reviews are all over the place for this restaurant. What we got: *Sangria - it was a sweet fruity sangria, such a nice way to start a warm summer brunch. *She Crab Soup - my mother-in-law got this, but we each tried it. It was okay, definitely had better crab tasting soup. *Hot Crab Dip - more cheesy than crabby, but we still enjoyed this. *Lobster Mac and Cheese - this was like lobster mac and cheese soup. There was so much liquid, that it did not taste cheesy and had hardly any lobster - literally had to go fishing for it. Absolutely do not recommend. *Market Greens with Crab Cake - I enjoyed my salad, but I wish I had known that the dressing would be put on the salad as it was drowning in it, too much for my taste. The crab cakes had too much filler, and only a little crab. Such a shame since crab cakes are my favorite! *Crab Cake Sandwich - my mother-in-law got this, and she was not a fan of her crab cake. What is a little weird is that her crab cake came way over cooked, like to a dark brown crisp, and the miniature crab cakes on my salad were light and golden. I think the way hers was cooked with a crispy coating really took away from getting any other flavor as it was the main focus. *Crab & Lobster Omelet - my husband got this and said it was fine, he liked it in the moment, but not something he would order again as he was not wowed by it. Overall, I am with the others that state this place is a lovely restaurant, but the flavor and quality of food comes nowhere near the price point. I'm fine paying a higher price for a nicer restaurant, but you need to match that price with flavor and quality. It's just not there, and I feel like I am being generous with my 3 stars. read more

I had the most amazing experience at The Fish Market in Tega Cay, SC! In just one week, all while I planned this from New Jersey, Selina helped me pull together my mom's 90th birthday celebration, and it could not have been more perfect. Selina was responsive, easy to contact, and even sent me photos of the venue so I could match the décor. She gave me early access to decorate and was right there making sure every detail was flawless, from printed menus to personally cutting cake for each guest. Her staff was outstanding! Lorelei was a godsend, helping me with décor and flowers on a tight decorating timeline. And Ashley's sweet disposition made everyone feel so welcome. And the food! Guests are still talking about that salmon! Every dish was delicious and served at the perfect temperature. For the level of service and quality we received, the price was an absolute bargain. Outstanding! Fish Market definitely deserves far more than the measly 3.5 star rating it gets on Yelp. We hadn't been in for a while but have been craving some good seafood. The inside has been nicely redone and you couldn't hear the crowd that was outside at Pet Piv, so they did some expert soundproofing. Our waiter tonight was Dale and he was beyond nice. He checked on us many times and kept our drinks refilled. I had the Chilean Sea Bass. There's a reason it's their signature dish, delectable! My husband had the haddock stuffed with crabmeat and he made every bite last. We left full and extremely satisfied. Luckily the bar wasn't busy and that's where walk ins sit. The food was good. The crab cake was my favorite. My $55 steak was not worth it and looked more like a sirloin than a filet. Chilean sea bass: this is their signature dish according to our server. It was perfectly cooked but the soy ginger glaze was way too salty. I'm surprised the chef approved it to be served. Fish and chips: also perfectly cooked. Very crispy and well seasoned. It comes with steak fries which were too thick and mealy. Had we paid closer attention to the menu, we would've requested regular thin fries (the ones that come with the kids menu because those were amazing). BBLT salad: I liked the fried Brussels sprouts the best. The dressing was surprisingly spicy and ruined the salad for me. My husband liked it though. Would swap for a different dressing next time or try a different salad. Kids chicken tenders and fries: the "tenders" were two thin chicken breasts. Very crispy and hot and well seasoned. The fries were the battered kind and so crispy and good. For $6.95, it also came with a drink and ice cream for dessert. We tried the Fish Market for Queens Feast and it was very good! The service was excellent, our waiter Michael did a great job with checking in on us and making sure we were taken care of. The warm bread with olive oil was delish! The appetizers were fantastic, we tried the scallop and ahi tuna. The scallop was super fresh! The entrées were huge, we tried the trout and unicornfish...both were filling dishes. The potatoes and vegetables with the trout were also some of the best I have ever had. We were so stuffed that we couldn't finish dessert, but the bread pudding was my favorite. Both again great and nice portions. The Shrimp & Grits are very creamy and amazing flavors. And you can't have brunch without mimosas. Perfect amount of vitamin C added and we also tried it with pineapple juice. Both were made very well so very satisfied and priced correctly. On a cool Fall evening we arrived for dinner at 6. Dark-lit interior, dark wood accents, gas fireplace, white cotton tablecloths, all hallmarks of a fine dining experience. The restaurant had several tables seated with more elderly couples, some already finishing their meals. Edging over to my wife one lady said "we come here all the time, let us know and we'll tell you what's good". I laughed quietly with my wife, but I should've listened to the lady. I ordered a couple new items on the menu; the Seafood Cioppino was my main course. For those unaware cioppino originated on the US West Coast. It's a seafood stew with a mixture of shellfish and fish in a rich tomato broth, often kicked up a notch or two with red pepper flakes. Enjoy the fresh seafood and then soak up the broth with crusty bread. It's a perfect meal for cold Fall and Winter evenings. I love cioppino. This was not cioppino. Instead of broth, the fish was served over a thin layer of sauce. The sauce had whole tomatoes and a hint of saffron (both actually typical of bouillabaisse), but the key point being, there was no broth! Beyond this, my seafood mix consisted of four small mussels and one shrimp with the remainder all salmon. Nothing against salmon (although not my favorite fish) but I expected much more shellfish. So in summary, too few mussels, too few shrimp, and no broth! I was so disappointed. We also had the Roasted Beet Salad which had far more greens than beets, plus my wife believed that the beets may have been canned. Also disappointing. My wife had the Chilean Sea-Bass and this was well-prepared. I was envious. The restaurant is located in Baxter Village. We took a walk after dinner and very much enjoyed the scenic atmosphere. It's bustling with small businesses, restaurants and pubs, several of which we plan to visit in the future. read more

I've been 3 or 4 times, twice with a group for a Christmas party and the service was excellent and we all enjoyed the food. The gumbo and shrimp and grits were outstanding. The salmon was also perfectly cooked. My husband and I also went for Queens feast one time and again everything was delicious, but the best thing was the service again. Family Brunch today 5/11/25: The food was horrible: non crispy bacon, cold roast beef without flavor, zucchini dish no flavor and uncooked. spinach with egg dish - no spinach, cheap desserts, shrimp & grits dish looks like some mush that was left over from something, fish was disgusting. We frequented this place for Sunday brunch many times before Covid and it was so good. It was clear the dishes were prepared last night as most were cold. We had a 10am reservation so maybe the food warmed up after we left. Some dishes were not even out as we went up to plate our food. The quality of food has changed - lacking many dishes no chicken tenders for the young, no waffles etc. Today's expense was a waste of money and a not a good memory for family outing. read more

Good menu choices, excellent wine offerings, reasonable prices, very excellent service, clean restrooms and high walled booths so our conversation, and those of other booths, were not becoming an annoying din of noise. But wife and I recently had lunch, outside, on a great early fall day. Very nice. I thought the prices were a bit high, esp for lunch. I had fish and chips $16 and wife had chicken pasta $18, plus each of us had bloody Mary's. But it was nice and this is sure a place for a romantic first date at lunch or dinner. Slow, forgotten and unattended to us how we felt. We ordered the oysters that were delicious, but my friend was gluten free and wasn't sure if these had planko crumbs on them-- the waitress did not come back to us in longer than a ten minute window for my friend so ask and since we were in the way back on the side-- we decided to call the restaurant in which we were sitting at and ask the host. We were all empty on drinks-- I asked the waitress for the drink menu-- she never came back. So this time I went up and asked the host for drinks and for someone to come and clear our table from the app plates, old drinks, trash etc. The food wasn't awful-- I ended up w the salad and added shrimp to them-- meh, small and the "kale" was more like romaine with a few mixed pieces of kale thrown on top. The gluten free dessert was yum! Overall, nice atmosphere, but service level and food creditability (for the price) could use a spruce up. read more
