They had a special which we both decided was good, surf & turf with NY strip and lobster tail. I also brought a bottle of Freixnet Cordon Negra which was so good! We had a few issues though - I sampled two beers and never got to order a drink. Waitress just didn't follow up. My water sat unrefilled for a long time. Fried okra didn't taste like okra - but that suited a few of the party. But a few of us expected okra flavor only to be disappointed. Temp on the fried green tomatoes should have been warmer but overall it was very tasty. Our appetizer empty plates sat for a while - we even stacked them so it was clear they should be cleared. Ordered the salmon, which was good, but so did my mom. We ordered different temps and they couldn't tell which was which. Wife ordered a salad and for the price, there was barely anything there. Mac and cheese is still the star. Oysters were decent - I expected larger. The half chicken was a generous portion - nice crispy outside but a bit dry inside. I wouldn't order it (I almost did, but my one of our party did). One of our party ordered a stuffed leeks and it was so salty it was inedible. They did fix it and admitted it should have never left the kitchen. By the time the replacement came out it was after 6:05 (and they had to leave at 6:15). So they didn't get to eat their celebratory meal with the rest of us. Not the memory you want for a meal. Desserts were good. Tort was dense - honestly not sure if that's normal. Crème brûlée was very good. For a $400+ experience and our history with Pump House, I expected more. read more

The setting alone makes this place special -- the river view is stunning and I can imagine it's even better at sunset.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our reservation was for 7:00 pm, so we missed the sunset, but the nighttime view was still great for a date night atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I started with the she-crab soup and I'm very glad I did -- it was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to start the meal. My girlfriend ordered the meatballs as her appetizer. They were good, but not a knock-out. After tasting them myself, I'd agree they didn't quite stand out compared to the rest of the meal. For our main course, we both chose the surf and turf and this is where everything really hit. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and very flavorful, and the shrimp served over roasted garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. The shrimp were labeled "blackened" -- they may have been lightly blackened, but either way they tasted great. We both thoroughly enjoyed the entrée. We also ordered a shareable bowl of roasted garlic mashed potatoes, which ended up being a bit disappointing only because we didn't realize our main course already came with a generous portion of the same potatoes. Had we known, we would've ordered something different. That said, our waitress Lisa handled it perfectly -- she agreed she should've mentioned it and had management remove the extra order from the bill. That level of service was very much appreciated and says a lot about the staff and management. We finished the evening with the milk chocolate mousse, served in a decorative edible chocolate/white chocolate bowl -- a really nice presentation and a sweet ending to the night. We paired our meal with a Moscato d'Asti (Codero) which complemented the dinner nicely. Overall, a romantic setting, strong entrées, great service recovery, and a memorable Valentine's dinner. A couple minor misses on appetizers and communication about sides, but nothing that would keep us from coming back. We went to The Pump House in Rock Hill and overall had a really nice experience. I have a garlic allergy, and I truly appreciated that the cook actually came out to talk to me about what he could safely prepare. That meant a lot. I ended up getting the filet with fries and broccolini, and it was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly and you could tell it was high quality. The only downside was the service. Our waitress was also manning the bar, which felt a little odd, and service was a bit slow because of it. We made reservations for 4:30 p.m. the day before Valentine's Day, and they weren't even busy at that time, so that part was a little confusing. Overall, the food and the way they handled my allergy were great, which really stood out. With smoother service, it easily would've been 5 stars. I'd still go back! read more

They offer a great experience no matter the time of day, from morning brunch complete with bottomless mimosas to elevated dinner entrees, cocktails, and Southern-style appetizers. Though the prices are high at $20-50+ per dish, the cost and menu items reflect the fine dining setting. The service is usually pleasant and attentive. My favorite dish here has been the steak and eggs at brunch, and I love to order a French 75 as well! If you are in the Rock Hill area and looking for somewhere nice to eat, PH is a great option for dates, special occasions, or simply dining on your own. read more

I had a great time here. The customer service was good and our waiter was attentive to us. The corn bread with the peach butter was soft on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside was such a good pre game before the meal! I ordered a drink with Mezcal which wasn't the best, but I was able to return my drink with no hassle. The replacement ginger drink wasn't bad, but not exactly my favorite. I order the gumbo and it had a nice flavor and the portion size was big. I was able to take leftovers home. The crab meat and smoky sausage was my favorite. Overall, the visit was really pleasant. I only took a Star off because I've had better gumbo elsewhere, but it's pretty solid. read more

Made a visit to the Pump House and was not disappointed. Started with the cornbread they sent to the table and it was excellent. For entrees we went with the Drunken Elk Chop and a wedge salad with fried chicken. The salad was amazing and the portion of chicken was impressive. The chicken was crunchy and delicious. The salad dressing that comes with the salad was also very tasty. The Elk chop was also very good. Cooked to perfection and the romesco sauce was also delicious. Service was ok. It's been awhile since I've visited this place but the food and service is always 5 star. The French toast was okay and I forgot I do not like their breading. I would suggest the chicken biscuit as another option. Nevertheless, the bacon and pineapple mimosa was tasty. One of my friend's entree was not cooked they way she requested (medium well steak and not well done) and they fixed it quickly! I've been wanting to try this restaurant for years now and finally had a good reason to now that it's part of restaurant week. We float the river during the summer and I've always heard good things about their food. It's a little bit of a drive for us but the good and service from Jenn was great. We ate off the restaurant week menu. We ordered shrimp cocktail which had cocktail sauce and a white sauce which was delicious, braised short rib crostini (also very delicious), NY strip, and salmon. Even though the menu listed seared salmon I was able to choose how I liked it cook and even added blackening seasoning. We also had chocolate tarts for dessert that were rich and creamy. I also can't forget their delicious cornbread and peach butter... it tasted like cake. All the food we ate was delicious! I peaked at their dinner menu for the normal pricing and I doubt I will be back for dinner considering their steaks are normally around 50-60.00. They also serve brunch which sounded more affordable and I look forward to maybe checking their brunch out one day. Overall a very nice dinner and great service! read more

My daughter and I were staying in the Ballantyne area of NC and decided to check out the Riverwalk area in Rock Hill, SC about 20 minutes away. The Pump House is located next to the river, at the end of a beautiful new community of houses, restaurants and businesses. We arrived at 7pm and were seated right away by a very nice hostess. We decided to sit outside on the covered balcony with openings on the sides. Thank goodness it was covered, because about 5 minutes after we sat down it started raining. Cierra was our server, she's also the bartender. Cierra was great, she was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave great suggestions. We started with drinks, both refreshing cocktails, made perfectly. For an appetizer we shared the crispy calamari. It was fried perfectly with fried peppers and I think okra as well. It came with an aioli that tasted more like a spicy mustard, so we asked for the garlic one, which accompanied it nicely. For our entrees, my daughter ordered the short rib, with the cheerwine au jus on the side. The short rib was beautifully placed on top of truffle grits and Lima beans. The short rib was so tender and everything went very well together. I ordered the pan seared scallops, that were placed on top of the pea and bacon risotto....delicious. We ordered a side of truffle frites, but once we had them, we realized our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. I enjoyed every bite of my meal. We ordered crème brûlée to go. Everything from start to finish was great! The service, the food and the ambiance looking at the water. Even though it rained and we sat on the balcony, we never felt a drop. read more

The Pump House is full of history! If you visit, take time to read signs, view old pictures and see some items from the original pump house around the restaurant/outside. The place is great for any occasion. They had two private events on the day I visited, so the 4th floor and rooftop bar were unfortunately closed. Inside is nice, but I enjoy the outside for views of the river. Food was great as was the service. For Sunday brunch, we had bottomless mimosas. The waiter took our order and timed our courses to ensure we had the next one but weren't rushed. Our drinks were never empty either. The quality of the food was a match for the price. They had a wonderful roasted chicken and replaced it with a Cajun fried chicken. The menu states Cajun chicken, it arrived over cooked and fried. Worst meal I've ever eaten there. If I wanted Popeyes chicken, I'd go to Popeyes chicken. It came with 5 under cooked quarter sized potatoes, a sauce that didn't work and coleslaw that was to warm. If you're going, please order something else. Usually I give them a 5 out of 5. Almost two months ago, the service and food were so amazing we've gone back almost once a week. Im providing a 3 rating only because of past service. This trip would have been a 1. Hopefully, this is a minor setback and not a trend. read more

The elevator was out of service so we had to walk up to the 3rd floor. Other than that (which is out of their control) lunch was amazing. We had great service from the hostesses, wait staff, and a manager came by to check in. 2 of us had to meatloaf. It was really tasty. It has a charred exterior and a lot of flavor in the meat. The cheerwine sauce was excellent- I was skeptical, but it works! We also order the okra appetizer. It was too much for the four of us, lol, but we put a dent in it. My kids both got a sandwich: chicken and salmon respectively. They woofed them down before I could get a photo. My older boy tried a cup of the chicken soup- which has house made stock and fresh veggies. He said it was excellent as well. I loved the view of the river. read more

The bread was barely warm and had clearly been made hours before we arrived. The eggs were not real, the waffles tasted stale and were basically inedible. The pork belly and steak were overcooked. The good things about the visit was the fruit, the grits, and potato hash. The drinks were good but no bottomless mimosas was a bad idea. Took our employees here for a work dinner and it was absolutely amazing. We were sat on the top floor which was a covered outdoor space where you could overlook the river. Started with the crab cakes and pork belly. The crab cakes had a delicious lemon aoili and the pork belly melted in your mouth. The Pump House has reopened after the area was flooded by the Catawba River overflowing from Hurricane Helene! We were here for a late Sunday lunch and got their brunch menu. Warmly greeted by the host after the elevator ride, we were seated on the patio overlooking the river. Great view on a warm sunny day even if the river is still a little brown from mudslides upriver. The blueberry muffins with soft butter was nice to nibble while we looked over the menu. Drinks and mains were ordered and the drinks arrived quickly. The lavender lemonade for my wife, which she enjoyed. A local pilsner for me. Our meals took 20 minutes. Freshly cooked I understand but this was 20 minutes. When it arrived, it was warm not hot. Burger and fries were tasty and prepared medium rare as ordered but the burger, the fries, the French toast was not at all hot throughout. I'm going to guess it sat under the warmer too long? The bigger letdown was the French toast. Good flavor but it was more like cake than brioche. French... cake? Sweet with maple syrup and preserved strawberries. Cake. My wife ate half of one "slice" and left the rest. And no, it didn't come home with us. Good service from the staff and no, I didn't say anything at the time. Who wants that conflict? Been many times to celebrate occasions. Went on Sunday, April 26th to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. Ordered our food and waited and waited and waited. The restaurant appeared to be approximately half full. We called the manager over to inquire about our food. He acknowledged that there seemed to be a problem with the kitchen getting food out in a timely manner. After 40 minutes our food arrived--barely warm. Grits are not good cold. The manager was called over again. He apologized and said he would give us a discount and dessert. Offer of dessert was never followed through. A $7 discount appeared on our bill. I don't consider that much of a "we hope you will try us again" offer. We will be finding another restaurant to patronize for special occasions. I met a woman here for a first date. It was my first time coming, she is a regular, apparently. It's a beautiful set up with an outstanding view of the river. The service was fantastic; our waiter, Johnny was very helpful and almost too attentive. Instead of ordering an entrée, we got a handful of appetizers and one side. The black and bleu beef appetizer was tasty. The crabcakes were pretty good. The calamari had a lot going on, probably too much. It was definitely my least favorite appetizer. The side of macaroni and cheese was DECADENT. The pasta wasn't overcooked and the cheese sauce was rich and cheesy to the max. I'd like to go back and try some different things. The only thing I can really complain about was the Walnut Grove Old-Fashioned I ordered. It was just too sweet. I expected a little more spice since the menu says it had Old Grand-Dad bourbon in it. read more

I would categorized the name of this restaurant as the Dump House. My wife and I have visited this restaurant three times in an effort to find a positive attribute--none found. A new chef is definitely in the making. We recently visited the Dump House last Sunday, June 14th when I ordered steaks and eggs. One third of the steak was thrown away due to grisle on the sides. The plate felt very lonely with two pigeon-sized eggs and a poor serving of a steak. As I was still hungry, I requested toast where I was charged $4.00. My visit was from several weeks back but no matter, my experience this second time around was just as stellar as the first. The service here is above par: several people helped us and brought us food, each and everyone equally friendly and polite and personable. I went for happy hour both times but tried something from main menu this last time. The frittes were fantastic, and so were the mac and cheese balls. I had wings the first visit but I don't remember them being too memorable. The pear cosmo is a favorite! The meatloaf was good especially the pimento cheese grits but--and I can't believe I'm even saying this--the entire dish felt almost too rich. It probably needed a little something to cut the richness of the loaf and the gravy and the grits. The setting was also beautiful, especially with views of the river and sunset. Dress code seems pretty casual but you can certainly come here for a special occasion. I travel to Charlotte for work regularly, and I don't mind driving to Rock Hall every time for this experience! read more

Our entrees were decent wife had the crab meat bucatini and I have the filet mignon. The drinks were not very good and took too long to receive. For the over $170 price tag, there is definitely better places to go to. This was our fourth and worst experience here. For living close by, we will not be returning. read more

The Pump House has stellar views and solid food! I loved seeing the old machinery as you walk in and learning the history of this pump house that was built in the 1940s to pump water out of the Catawba River for the factories. We walked in around 4:30pm on a Friday without a reservation and were able to get seated at a great table on the 3rd floor patio overlooking the water. Service was very friendly and attentive, and the menu consists of fare with a Southern flair. To drink, I ordered the lavender lemonade, which was flavorful and refreshing. Our server brought us warm corn bread muffins with butter, a pretty standard corn bread and a nice way to start the meal. We got the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, which were said to have pimento cheese, but the melted cheese on top just looked like cheddar/Mexican blend to me. The sauce on the plate was nice though and balanced the fried tomatoes well. For our entrée, we ordered the crab cake-stuffed NC mountain trout to share, which the kitchen kindly split for us on two plates. The trout was prepared well, and I liked that the crab inside was mostly meat and not too much filling. The main con of our time at Pump House was the cleanliness of the space - there was trash under our table (straw wrappers, toothpicks), and the glass overlooking the river could use a wash because it had lots of cobwebs and bugs. There was a spider dangling on the inside part of the glass over our table that my husband got rid of for us. Regularly wiping away the cobwebs and cleaning the patio area would lead to a much more enjoyable experience, especially since the views out there are the big draw. read more

The building and the view are really cool. Loved that the hostess stand is at the front door so no confusion on where to go. We are on the enclosed deck. So perfect view of the water. Our service was really good and they were very busy. Had the fried okra to start and it was the best I ever had. My grandmother has passed on so I can say that it was even better than her's- and that's saying a A WHOLE LOT. I had a wedge salad for my meal and it was yummy and fresh.
