My parents really enjoy this restaurant, partially for the nostalgic dai pai dong ambiance they miss from Hong Kong and they also like all the fresh seafood options you can see from the fish tanks. I love the variety of crabs and lobsters and I have always had great experiences here. Food is delicious and service is always on point. We recently had dinner in a private room that fits 8 people. The meal came out to around $1,100 and we were all very happy and even had leftovers to take home. I recommend going with a group of people to try more dishes! Food was mediocre at best, and service was slow -- my friend and I even had to refill our own water. We spent over $1,000 here, and three different staff members guaranteed our parking would be covered once validated. Before leaving, the man who looked like the owner personally scanned our parking pass, assuring us we wouldn't have to pay. When we got to the lot, it was chaos -- a 20-25 minute backup because no one's passes were working. When it was finally our turn, we found out why: our parking was never validated. The attendant told us Fish Village isn't even authorized to validate parking passes. In other words, the whole thing was a scam. So we dropped $1,000+ on dinner and still got stuck with parking fees. If a restaurant can't deliver on the basics -- food, service, honesty -- then what's the point? Fish Village failed on all three. I won't be back!! read more

After you get seated, you go up to the counter and place your seafood, how you want it cooked and what appetizers or soups. We ordered the crab with fish paw soup, razor clams, crab (3 ways; sticky rice, steamed over vermicelli and fried with egg yolk and garlic), salt and pepper pork chops, veggies, regular clams and fresh water shrimp. I highly recommend the pork chops and the crab 3 ways. But, just be mindful that they skimped out on the vermicelli... Barely any of it under the crab. I took a star off for the smokiness... Fish Village is an ode to authentic Chinese seafood, hidden away on the third floor of a nondescript building in Queens, surrounded by seemingly industrial and warehouse properties. Though it may lack the pomp and circumstance of some of its Manhattan and Queens counterparts, the unassuming and whacky décor of Fish Village hide the bounty of live seafood dishes within. The sky blue painted walls and whimsical aquarium stickers paraded along the walls contrast with the shouting Cantonese and the sounds of water bubbles from the aquarium tanks within. The food is fresh as can be and the chefs will cook the seafood in whatever style you choose. Steamed, fried, over rice, over vermicelli, in a soup, mixed with eggs and custard, or however you wish it. And the variety extends to king crab, lobster, all types of fish, oysters, scallops, geoducks, abalone, clams, and so on. For thoes that don't even like seafood, you can order the salt and pepper pork chops, which are a deep fried succulent juicy fatty pork wrapped within the fragrant peppery crisp exterior crusting. Sending the very best to this Chinese small business after the restaurant was oddly targeted by vandals. Be mindful that there is cooking fee added on, aside from the cost of the crab or lobster, etc. This reminds me of Quarry Bay in Hong Kong, where we purchased our seafood and picked a small boat to cook and dine there. The service is adequate. The bathroom is clean. The food is fresh. I don't think they serve drinks. Some white wines would be nice. Anyway, two small incidents: The first one is we wanted to or the geoduck clam which is on sale for $19.99 but the guy took down the sales sign and said, "it's $29.99". The second one came after we paid. As we lingered a little longer, one staff came to say, "sorry, we made a mistake, charged you less." The crab was 5.3 lb but they entered as 3.15 lb. One of my friend said, "I'm sorry too but it's a done deal." I would have paid the shortfall but thinking the first incident, I said nothing. 'We're even.' My family and I decided to try this place out on Father's Day since my dad loved Hong Kong style seafood market restaurants. Unfortunately, after this experience, we most likely will not be returning. The restaurant was crazy packed! No social distancing; it was as if the pandemic didn't exist. We were seated right next to the kitchen section where the waiters would bring out the dishes, so it was quite hectic as well. I get that it's a holiday and it's really busy, but I wished the staff were more attentive to their customers. The first person who took our order forgot to write down that we wanted soup. We thought it was strange that it still hasn't come out, so we had to ask multiple people to check on our order but it seems that they just kept forgetting and didn't even bother checking. At the end, finally someone checked and said it was left out and will ask the kitchen to make it right away. I understand how and why they priced the seafood, preparation and cooking because it's pretty standard in Hong Kong, but the presentation and taste of the dishes weren't anything special to me. Ah the 3.5 stars. Have you heard about the thing where the best tasting restaurants are rated 3.5 stars because of crappy service or something like that? I feel like this restaurant falls into that category. Heads up, this place is NOT cheap. The bill ran us around $400+ including tax and tip for a party of 4. Their service is also Chinese fast, so all these dishes came out rapid fire and immaculate. I suggest coming at like 6:30 pm or 7:00 pm because it started getting real busy at 8:00 pm on a Friday. The parking lot was also overpacked. At first glance, this place looks like a fish market. I saw crates of crabs being hauled in (their seafood wholesaler is Fathom Seafood according to the boxes) complete with tanks full of depressing fish. One huge thing I appreciate is that use every part of the fish/seafood here! Multiple dishes we ordered came from one seafood selection. For example, an order of elephant clam turned into elephant clam sashimi and HK styled fried elephant clam made with the innards. A fish (sorry I don't know what fish this is) made a traditional soy sauce steamed fish and soup made with the innards. I wish I could give you the exact names of the dishes, but my Chinese is wack, so here I go trying my best: 1) Cantonese styled snails - a little spicy, black bean/soy sauce flavored, and fresh! 2) Some kind of harder shelled shrimp - comes with a soy sauce on the side. Good! Issa shrimp. 3) Scallops with garlic sauce and vermicelli - $36 bucks for four of these. I know because my mom complained about the price. The vermicelli was very scanty and dry, and the scallops were fresh but under seasoned. Not bad, but this dish if you care about your bang for buck! 4) Some kind of crab and e fu/yi mien noodles - a little unethical, but I love crab with roe. These crabs had a LOT of roe, so I liked it. The noodles were pretty good too! 5) Elephant clam sashimi and HK styled fried elephant clam- both very tasty, and the fried elephant clam was my favorite dish! 6) Steamed fish- standard soy sauce steamed fish like the ones you get at a wedding. The flesh was suuuper tender, and my family demolished this dish. Remember: don't flip your fish over cause that's bad luck. In addition, we got a soup made from the fish as well. My mom loved the soup! 7) Dessert: Watermelon and red bean sago soup. Never disappoints! This place has great seafood variety, and the dishes are all flavorful and authentic to Chinese cuisine. Service is super fast, and the staff will replace your dishes and tea often. They specialize in Live Seafood. That is to say all the seafood is alive in tanks up until the moment they cook it for you to eat. The seafood is literally as fresh as can be and they cook it in whatever style you want as they order a few choices. For the crab they allow up to 3 different preparations for the same crab, so we had some fried, some steamed and then finally part of it used in a steamed egg custard. All very very delicious. As soon as you walk in there are a bunch of large tanks with lobsters, crabs, eel, fish, turtles etc. You can choose what you want from the tanks, or just order from the menu. The restaurant is a decent size and they also have private rooms with Karaoke machines. The private rooms have a bathroom inside and the tables are large, at least for 10 people. We went there for a birthday dinner and got the private room. We ordered mussels, two types of shrimp, lobster, lobster fried rice and a beef soup. Everything was pretty good and fresh but the lobster was excellent. The service was great, staff was friendly and attentive. We were 6 people and our bill was $900 with tax & 25% tip. read more

Flushing is out of the way for me, so I usually do not travel that far, but when I go, I would look for something unique that I cannot easily find in Manhattan. This restaurant is an example. This is a Hong Kong style seafood market and kitchen. You can pick out your seafood and pay by the pound, then specify how you would like them to be cooked and pay a fee for preparation. I have dined in places like these in the Tuen Mun area when I was visiting Hong Kong. Due to the market price for seafood and the preparation fee for making the dishes, you can expect the price to be a bit pricey. We ordered an Alaskan King Crab that is over 6lbs for 3 people, and they could cook it 3 ways - we got the fried king crab legs with duck egg yolk, steamed crab with XO sauce (but they made it with garlic instead by mistake) and crab fried rice. We also ordered abalones and asked for them to be steamed with XO sauce. For menu items such as poultry and vegetables, you can order them from the various menus at the table. For those items, they are quite reasonably priced. When the crab arrived prepared in the incorrect way, steamed with garlic instead of XO sauce, the server tried to find out who took our order at the seafood stand, and then he returned minutes later with a small dish of XO sauce and told us to apply to the top of the steamed crab. The shell was cracked, so in general, it was easy to take out the meat. We did have to ask the serve for the small forks to remove the meats inside of the claws. The steamed crab with garlic dish tasted fresh and decent. Next time, I would try it with ginger and scallion or black bean sauce. The fried crab legs with duck egg yolk was my favorite dish, I like that the shell had already been cracked, so you would take out the succulent amount of crab meat with ease. The crab legs tasted fresh and flavorful. The dish did not feel oily. The crab fried rice was my least favorite, we should have ordered it to be prepared with glutinous rice instead. The fried rice tasted a little bland, and it was on the drier side. It definitely did not highlight the freshness of the crab meats. The presentation in the crab shell was nice nonetheless. We ordered the snow pea shoots stir fried with garlic and it complemented the rest of the meal well. Dishes arrived quite quickly; however, service was a bit lackluster, we had to try to get the attention of the servers a couple times to get a clean plate or wet wipes. They definitely could work on the service given the average costs of a meal here. At the conclusion of the meal, they gave 3 slices of watermelon as desserts. The watermelon was sweet and juicy, but I wish they would be a bit more generous with the fruits, maybe 2 slices per person instead of 1. All in all, I would bring friends who are seafood lovers and visiting from out of New York to visit this restaurant for some fresh seafood prepared in Eastern cooking style. You cannot expect it to be at par with the ones you can find in Hong Kong, but it is close, and definitely a plus that you do not have to fly across the oceans to Asia to have reasonably priced MP seafood prepared in ways you specify. read more

Similar to other places such as Astoria seafood, this Chinese run operation sells seafood picked from tanks and priced at a bargain. For an extra service fee, they will then cook the seafood for you in 3 available styles (steamed/deep fried/ or stir fried). Since we had gotten a ridiculously huge crab, we opted to get all three styles with the steamed surprisingly coming out on top as the minimalist preparation allowed for the sweetness of the crab to come out. This place is where it's at. One of my first experiences with traditional Chinese food and it was nothing short of delicious. They brought me tea and roasted peanuts to start which were both very good. I ordered the spicy frog and white rice which was phenomenal. Very flavorful, spicy, and a good size portion too. I would love to come back here some day. I was the only American In the restaurant at the time and being new to traditional Chinese food, the waitress did a great job of making me feel welcome. The way it calculates is price per pound for the item and then they charge another price for prepare and cooking. I don't know how they charge for the price of preparation and cooking but to me I think is a ridiculous numbers add on. The taste of the cooking is anywhere you can get from a regular restaurant's! Even for just regular steam crab(as you can see on the photo. No sauce, ginger or scallions) they charge $60 for the crab and then $17.99 for prep and steam which you can just buy your crab from market and steam yourself without the extra $$. Be prepared for a rip-off. I called to confirm the price of the crab and ordered a takeout. When I picked it up and paid, I saw the price is 10% more. I called to ask why and then they told me takeout is more and I haven't heard any price communicated to me over the phone. Even if the manager insisted he said the takeout is more expensive but wouldn't he need to tell me by how much? And after I confronted with the manager, he is so arrogant to say if you don't want it you just take the crab back. So I guess they can resell to another customer without knowing it was someone's returned crab. I am even worried about how 'fresh' or 'live' for your ordered seafood. I will never come back again.
