This really could've been 5 stars. But it's definitely a 4 star rating. And I will get into why I am on the fence about whether this really should be 3 or 4 stars altogether. When my usually thrifty partner in crime suggested this spot he had with his fam seasons ago where you get to pick your own catch literally and have them cook them into deliciousness- I was sold. Needlessly, we did jus that- picked a turbo that sat on many other tables swimming in a bath of soy ginger scallion all perfectly fanned out. And then tiger prawns swimming- yasss. 4 please. Razor clams and garlic steamed scallops with vermicelli completed our little seafood a la carte. Hot dam it was delicious. So darn good. Maybe even more so because we ordered perfectly until the enormous turbo got dumped before us. Still she was fresh, sweet and aside from portion- perfect. Then the dream came crashing down. I honestly thought $120 aiming high too. And he thought just around that. Seriously, I recalled us debating whether to do the ever so popular buffet downstairs and him telling me it was $40pp and we are not buffet ppl, mind you (don't let looks fool you). I recalled thinking there's no way u and I can eat $40pp ordering a la carte. Holy hell... it was almost $200 after tax and tip! I just can't. This literally had no service other than the same (kind, mind you) lady who took our order like we were at the market and fished out our catch and very well possibly cooked the sea creatures (to perfection no less) that comprised of any fine dining aspect. Here's the breakdown: $76 for fish, $40 for 4 giant salt pepper shrimp $11 for 2 scallops $24 for razor $3 for rice. It's really really expensive even for live seafood at a Chinese joint. But it's delish. All I gotta say is next time I'm coming here is if they are running some kind of special or there's an event I'm mandated to come- at the host's expense of course. read more

Live seafood caught directly from the fish tanks in front of you - very fresh but i wish they have more options. They seem to be a bit under staff as there was only one person standing in front of the tanks to take orders and other waiters were running around to service the customers at the tables. It tooks us about a while to order and the food came out very slow as well. Over all favors were all very good but some of the seafood was over cooked. We were a party of 4 and end up paying $81 dollar each with tax and tips. We got one order of snail, one order of Razor fish, one pound of mantis shrimp, 4.65 pounds of king crab cooked two ways, salt & pepper pork chop, and a vegetable dish. read more

Don't order their seafood unless you want to pay over price. They charge 30% extra on top of the regular price for "processing fee", and you still need to pay for tax/tips as usual. Eg. You need to pay a total of $165 in the end for an item marked as $100 in their seafood menu. We spent $70/person on one geoduck and rest are just lunch specials. I would recommend "the buffet" right above them in the same building where you get a lot more choice. ($30/person and they don't charge tips) One start to reward their complementary peanuts and watermelon. read more

Walking into the restaurant the the impression is that the place is simply decorated and is nothing fancy. Cartoonish pictures of sea creatures and mermaids are placed every few places on the wall or pillars. What draws the eye the most is dozens of tanks of live seafood such as fishes, crabs, lobsters, clams, etc. This is where you choose which one to pick out for the chef's to cook for your dinner that night and most goes by pound according to seasonal prices. My girl said that the atmosphere reminds her of those street restaurants in Asia. I found everything to be fresh and simple but simple in a good way. Fresh as could be since everything was swimming in the tanks in front of you when you chose one. The simplicity lets you taste the freshness of the seafood without masking it too much. Lightly steamed or stir fried with your chosen sauces and herbs seems to be the preferred method here. Some of the selections could be made it multiple dishes from one creature. For example, fish could be made into a souip from the leftover parts like the head, tail, and bone which the main meaty section would be made into a steamed dish smothered in a light soy sauce with vegetables. The king Crab of ours was made into 3 seperate dishes as seen in my photos. The reviews here seems to be mixed on yelp and Google maps but the bad ones seems to not understand that seafood is expensive thus complaining it's not cheap or the other common theme with complaints there is a 30% charge for cooking what you picked out from the tanks to eat. That complaint is not valid since the way this place works is that they charge you per pound seasonal fair market price for seafood and then charge you 30% to cook it. It ends up be cheaper than most seafood dishes at restaurants this way but some expect what they see on the tank prices is what it should be without understanding there is no profit that way for the restaurant. Outside of the seafood, there is a selection of vegetable dishes and meat dishes on the menu. The vegetables is made with the same kind of pleasant simplicity as the seafood. I can't say anything about the meat dishes since we didn't order any the night we came. It is a seafood restaurant after all so we thought why not just go with it's strengths? And no the chicken, lambs, and pigs were not held in tanks or cages like the seafood. Btw. I parked 3 blocks away to avoid the parking fee at the lot right at the restaurant but I found out if you eat here they stamp a coupon for you to park free when you pick up your car. The seafood are amazing. Highly recommend the lobster with salted egg and clams as they're very fresh and come with a lot of meats. The abalones were a little hard to chew. The veggies and noodles were fine. There's cigarette smell inside the restaurant. We didn't like the secondhand smoke exposure/ tobacco while we were eating. According to the Smoke Free Air Act (SFAA), serving , smoking or vaping any product containing tobacco or cannabis is prohibited inside New York City restaurants. read more

Live Seafood tank, check! The final price of the meal, Big Check! In all seriousness, if you crave fresh seafood, Lulu is as fresh as it's going to get. The live tanks are teeming with live crustaceans and many varieties of fish. They don't practice "Catch and release" here, it's "Catch, chop, rinse and cook" We had the abalalone, crystal crab, clams and sea bass. Now you can have your meal cooked and prepared in a variety of different ways and sauces. Our sea bass and crystal crab were steamed, the sea bass was prepared with ginger and scallions. The abalone was steamed in XO sauce and our clams stir fried in black bean sauce with basil. The seafood was Awesome! Where Lulu excels in seafood, they fell short on the side dishes. We ordered the drunken chicken cold dish, chicken lo mein, seafood fried rice, snowpea leaves and deep fried salty chili pork chops to supplement our meal. Sadly, they were very mediocre at best. There is a 35% cooking fee for the live seafood. I'm sure there must be some elaborate justification for charging this price. The seating is very roomy since you're sitting on wooden picnic benches. The staff is very pleasant and made sure to change out our plates frequently. Oh yeah, they don't serve Alcohol here only soft drinks, they allow you to "BYOB" In a nutshell if you want the Freshest tasting seafood, Lulu will not disappoint, but the sides they offer up here are nothing to rave about. read more

Came for the king crab. We had 4 people and our crab was 5.5lb. We had the legs fried, the shell with fried sticky rice and the body steamed with fat rice noodles at the bottom. We ordered a tofu mushroom dish as well. It was quite a lot of food so we took home a good amount. Ended up around $310-320 with tip, which I thought was fair as the crab was cooked just right and fresh. The food here was just ok. It's kinda over-priced. You need to know how to order here so you can get enough food with ok price. The parking can be an issue since the parking lot is always full. Parking on the street will be an option. When we walked in the door, there were a lot of fresh/live seafood. The best way is go there to order. The staff will pick and weight the seafood you want right away. They would calculate the total cost and cooking fee for you. (You might find some "add on" items on the final bill such as noodles.) Still very good quality, however prices are now much higher. I would say the food are fine, somehow delicious. The food part I would give a positive review. However, when they are busy they may forget about you totally. I was forgotten and wait for at least 55 mins after I ordered, and realized nobody was taking care of my table. Wanted to come here the day before Father's day but it seemed like other families had the same idea as us because the wait was about 45 minutes to get a table. The wait for the food was also about 30 minutes. But from what I heard, the wait times are better if it's a regular day. You should really only come here if you like seafood because the regular food (lamb and fried rice) is mediocre. There is WiFi but if the place is packed, it's gonna be difficult to connect to it. More on depth review of the food: Alaskan Crab: half of the crab is steamed and half is fried. I don't understand the fried crab because there's a shell separating the batter and meat. The batter is pretty good though. Lamb chops: standard lamb chops you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. Fried rice: standard as well. Clam soup: the clams are pretty good. Soup is nice. Good flavor. All in all, the restaurant is okay. If I'm thinking of a seafood restaurant, I probably wouldn't think of this one right away. One of the dishes didn't come until we finished eating, but we asked them to take it back and we weren't charged for the dish! The people are very nice, despite being extremely busy. read more

I really want to like this place...after seeing the pictures and reviews. The food was really fresh. You can literally go to their "market" to pick out the fish you want and they'll butcher and cook it up for you. It's like going fishing and bringing that fish to a local grill on the beach...only this is indoors...and in college point. They did paint the walls blue though. The service was good (for a chinese restaurant) and lousy in my own standards. The bill really annoyed me though. They charge a "cooking fee". Um...HELLO?!?! You guys are a restaurant...Lulu Seafood RESTAURANT. Restaurants cook food! So they charge you extra just for their cooks to cook. Seafood is as fresh as it can get. They come straight out of the tank. They offer a good selection of seafood from Alaskan King Crab to fresh shucked oysters. Pick out what to eat, the waiter can recommend what to cook it with. I was here on a Saturday night and this place was empty. Other than my table, there were only two others. So here's the deal. The food is delicious and fresh but it is super expensive! I spent $140 (not including tips) on one lobster and one Vancouver crab. I think that's insane! Who can say no to the giant king crab, cooked with sticky rice and fried with duck egg yolk? How about the big clams sautéed with scallion and garlic? There's no way of disappointment if you came here for some authentic Chinese seafood, cooked Hong Kong style. The better part was that nothing was too greasy, unlike majority of the Chinese places. My favorite dish out of all we have ordered was the huge steamed clam with glass noodles and garlic. Giant in size, the clam meat was actually marinated very well and possessed a chewy texture. This is a good place for seafood. If you like pick your fish, crab and lobster this is the place. Make sure you come on the weekend. We came a few times on weekday and they don't taste the same as weekend. Weekend chef is better because they are busier. Now they do have private room that's good but the bathroom are so so dirty I can't. Price are good but it's not the best and don't even try to order take out they charge more. My father took the liberty of ordering one item from every category for our party of 10 including abalone, geoducks, lobster, king crabs and soft-shell crabs, fish, oysters and more. What I love about this place is that they have an open kitchen so you can see how it's prepared. Some of the food was a bit towards the salty side though. Unique experience of being able to pick out fresh seafood and have it prepared several different ways for you. However the price is very expensive for the terrible service and ambiance. We were seated right away and provided a menu and tea. After that we were ignored until we asked several people how to order food. One server told me to order it at the counter along with all the take out people. Why am I sitting for dine in service if we have to stand in line? Finally, we got someone to take out order and the food came out relatively quick but in pieces when they were ready, rather than around the same time. So we got our clams with black bean sauces first and since everyone was hungry, we started eating that and then got veggies, then our crab dish and then noodles and rice all at different times. We ordered a live kind crab prepared three ways. While the crab tasted good, it was all a little salty. The crab huge but wasn't expecting to pay $450 for it. So with the 30% processing fee charge, our entire dinner came out to $750 for 6 people. Paying this much would be worth it if we'd gotten decent service and didn't have to keep chasing people down for simple things like water or to pay our check (my husband finally had to stand in the "to go" cashier line just to get our expensive paid). We could have eaten at a fine steak and seafood restaurant with wine, apps and dinner and great service for what we paid for this meal... Meanwhile, the ambiance here is a total chaotic fish market with a hefty price tag. Seriously, save the money and go to someplace like Crown One next time. read more

So the major reason behind the 3 stars is very simple - coming here for Mother's Day dinner was a bad idea! We made a reservation for 5 people at 7:30pm, which I thought was a brilliant idea because another group had been waiting for an hour for their table. However, when we got seated, there were only 2 chairs. We asked the staffs, and the manager for chairs, and we had to wait for another 15 to 20 minutes before we get enough chairs. This place brings back memory of going to Seafood restaurants in Hong Kong, where they have all the tanks with different seafood, and you choose what you want, and how you want them to cook it. There's a 35% cooking fee on top of the seafood price, which they put a sign up and specify that. We ordered abalone, oysters, razor clams, scallops, a steamed fish, and sea snail (I think that's what it's called). Other than that, we also ordered beef with green peppers and a veggie dish. The seafood is fresh, some of them being overcooked a tiny bit, but overall it's pretty good. However, they cannot serve the dishes any slower. By 8pm, we ordered everything, but we still didn't see the oysters at 9pm. I don't blame the kitchen for that, because their services were also slow. We asked for 3 white rice when our first dish was served, and we had to wait for 10 minutes, only realized that the rice cooker is right behind our table. By 9:30, we asked the server if they forgot about the order, and if they didn't even start preparing it, we would cancel the order. We ended up cancelling the oysters. I believe they were just overwhelmed by the mother's day crowd. I was not upset by the servers, they were very nice, and I saw them running around being busy the whole night. My buddy and I were looking for a place to eat after band practice and I had just heard about this place by doing a "Restaurants Open Late in College Point" search on Yelp. I was quite surprised; first, because Fish Village never showed up as a restaurant in all the other College Point restaurant searches I had done in the past and to learn that the restaurant was in the same building as one of our other favorite places to eat- The Buffet. I knew there was a hot pot place in the same hotel building complex as The Buffet but had no idea Fish Village existed until I was actually looking for it. When we were approaching from outside and I looked up and saw the big sign and blue motif it seemed so obvious because of how vibrant the entire floor looks through the window. Though even finding the restaurant proved to be a little daunting as there is only a very small label right next to the floor select button (along with labels for all of the other destinations on the floors) and we ended up going to the wrong floor twice. The bright blue ambience of the restaurant caught my attention and worked really well. I was impressed by the vast selection of live seafood in tanks as you enter the place. We arrived around 10pm on a Friday and there was only one other table with diners up front and a party in one of the back rooms so we were sat right away by our waiter. He was very helpful, giving us recommendations and explaining how the live seafood worked, the costs involved, which cooking styles we could choose from, etc.. We ordered the Fish Maw Soup and House Fried Rice for appetizers then walked up to the tanks to decide on the mains. Everything looked so good!! There was a monster king crab all by himself in one of the tanks, some porgies (I believe), shrimps, different kinds of clams (regular and razor), geoduck and lobster. I know I'm probably forgetting some as well. Usually what we do when we go to eat is just do "family style", getting a little bit of everything to share so we decided on the boiled soy sauce shrimp and two of the smaller lobster- one pan fried with ginger scallion sauce, one deep fried with salt and pepper. The appetizers arrived really quickly and our waiter gave us this delicious vinegar for the soup which gave it a nice zing but also a sweet, almost cherry-like taste. I asked the server what type of vinegar it was as I was interested in getting some of my own but he said they just call it "red vinegar". It was so good in fact, that it inspired me to try cooking something with a fruit-vinegar combination. The fried rice was also excellent and was unlike any other I've had before. Usually when you get fried rice it is very heavy and oily and usually overseasoned. This fried rice was very light, had a tan, almost goldish hue and if anything was maybe a bit on the dry side but that is fine because it lent itself perfectly to mingling with the soup and especially the sauces from the entrees. Speaking of the entrees, everything was brought out maybe 10-15 minutes after the appetizers came. All three seafood dishes were great- everything was cooked perfectly and had it's own great flavor profile. The soy sauce shrimp was a nice balance of tangy, salty and umami.The ginger scallion sauce coated each piece of lobster with a layer of sticky goodness and the deep fried lobster had a bold pepper taste (but not spicy) and had more of a tempura-style batter on it which give it a nice light quality. The seafood went down easy but alas, we weren't able to finish the rice and soup so we got it to go. One of the most shocking things about the meal might have been the price; one iced tea, heaping helping of fried rice, giant bowl of soup, pound of shrimp and two 1.5 or so pound lobsters came out to about $87 tax included!! It was a legit deal for the quality of food and friendly service. My only criticism (if you could call it that) is that I think they should make their presence in the hotel complex more apparent/better known to the patrons so that they can t more people coming in to try their awesome food. Like I had said, I have been coming to the complex for the other restaurant for years and had no idea that Fish Village existed until now. But we had a great first experience and will most-definitely be back to sample more treasures of the sea. read more

This is a no-frills seafood spot where you should go if you like seafood and you want to know it is fresh. How do you validate the freshness? Here at Lulu, you pick it straight out of the tank, and then tell the servers how you want it cooked. There is a shrimp sauté dish that is TUH-DIE-FO. All I know is that it does involve some deep-frying, and then it tossed in a light sauce. That sauce & shrimp combo be delicious AF. The layout of the restaurant is very open, but I believe they do have some private rooms. Looks clean overall, nothing fancy. Just really good food. Me and my parents wandered into this restaurant by accident. We were looking for another restaurant and stumbled in here. I must say we were so happy with what we found!! A restaurant where you can pick your own seafood (fish and shellfish) and have them prepare it for you on the spot!! OMG the lobster and fish was so incredibly fresh ( and I am insanely picky when it comes to seafood) We devoured everything, it was delicious and super fresh and all for a really good price!!
