I loveeeeeeee fish with pickled cabbage. The sweetness from the fish and sourness from the pickled cabbage just goes so well together!! The fish is so tender and soft, just melts in your mouth. The cabbage gives it a crunch and a tangy taste. I first had this in HK back in 05/2025 and have been obsessed with this dish ever since! This dish is best served with rice and can be shared with 2 people. We came on a Wednesday night and it wasn't to busy. There was one cashier person and she was very kind & helpful. We had some issues with ordering through their QR code, some of us ordered correctly and some of us missed a step.

Love the Suancai Fish here, so good with rice. Have dined here for many times! Cozy environment

Delicious and I can't wait to go back! Had the golden with the standard fish and it was like a hot and sour soup with light buttery flakey fish. I was tempted to get the large (it comes with 4 sides instead of 2) but glad I got the she side the portion was big! I took the rest home to add noodles and tofu to make another meal. Will try the original with snakehead next time. We also got the beef dry noodles and that was also yummy and came with all the sides. Can order with staff or via code. The employees were so kind and friendly. Ambiance is standard, bright and clean. Excited to go back and try everything!

First time trying sour fish soup and my experience was great! As someone who cannot take spice, I went with their Royal Tomato and it did not disappoint. Broth was sweet and sour, paired perfectly with the tender blackhead (fish). The Laotan was too much for me to handle, but my partner loved it. Broth was flavorful and made him feel cozy. Service was awesome with constant check-ins, water and rice refills.

Fish With You is a bright, casual eatery specializing in Sichuan-style suancai fish, a soup of sliced snakehead fish flavored with preserved vegetables, whole dried red chilies, and Sichuan peppercorns. The Signature Suancai & Fish also came with tofu, woodear mushrooms, celtuce, and thick, chewy, translucent sweet potato noodles, all in a hot, spicy and sour broth, topped with chili oil and sesame seeds. For an appetizer, we had the Fried Pork Sausage, served with a side of ketchup. The food here was decent though nothing too outstanding. However, everything came at a fair value, and the service was friendly too!

Visited San Mateo over the long weekend for some good eats outside the city and ordered the signature suancai & fish with snakehead since other party member is allergic to catfish. The dish was actually pretty light, not oily at all. Also, the longer the ingredients marinated in the broth, the better the flavor throughout the course of the meal.

The pumpkin bites were crispy but were more dough then filling. Still, they held up over night and were OK the next day.

I really enjoyed this mean and logged into yelp today in consideration of going back today . If you are someone who loves and appreciates what a good soup can do for your soul this is this is the place for you!

Free rice with huge portion sizes of Sichuan fish. What more do you need? The signature and tomato broths are my favorite. I also added extra bass fish for $6.99 and it's a good amount of extra fish they give (only qualm is that for some reason the extra fish isn't boiled in the broth so you have to put it in early for it to soak up the flavor over time). They also have roasted duck and pork for a decent price which I haven't tried yet.

Good sauerkraut fish in the San Mateo area. Good value and large size is plenty for at least two people. Only wish all the side dishes were in stock.

Cozy, affordable spot in downtown San Mateo for hearty Sichuan-style suancai fish soups with generous portions and fast, no-frills service. Went midweek for lunch and the restaurant was nearly empty, which made for a quiet, relaxed meal. The space is casual and focused on their specialty: Sichuan-style pickled mustard green (suancai) fish soups. We ordered three small-sized soups for a party of three and found the portions very generous for individual servings. Each soup comes with a bowl of rice, making it a very filling and satisfying meal. * Signature suancai & fish with snakehead * Green Sichuan suancai & fish with basa, sweet potato noodle, and fungus * Classic with basa, enoki, and tofu For the price point, it feels like one of the best value suancai fish options in the Bay Area. Service was fast and efficient; our soups came out in a reasonable amount of time and staff checked in enough without hovering. However, if you do not speak Chinese, it may be harder to ask detailed questions about the menu, so it helps to come with an idea of what you want or be ready to point to items. The restaurant is in downtown San Mateo, so plan a bit of extra time for parking before your meal. There is metered street parking nearby as well as a parking structure at the opposite corner of the block, both within easy walking distance. This is a great spot if you are craving sauerkraut-style Sichuan fish soup with generous toppings at a very reasonable price. Would definitely return to try more of their fish soup variations and customize different toppings.

Signature Suancai & Fish, Large (9/10): So tasty, and a good portion for 2 people!

Fish With You has a great combo: it's fun and it's delicious! First, the delicious. Their menu focuses on sūancài yú (酸菜魚), or Sichuan fish soup with picked mustard greens. (They call it sauerkraut on the menu, I think to help explain it to English-speakers, but it's not the German kind of sauerkraut). Their signature soup is a spicy, sour, and hearty dish that has a fantastic mix of fish, tofu, vegetables (fresh and pickled), and glass noodles, and it comes with rice on the side. We get the large, which is a good size for two people to share, and it always has plenty of (good-sized) chunks of the snakehead fish. Besides the soup, we also often get their pork sausage side (from the Yummy Snacks menu). The sausage is thick and snappy, and it has what seem to be pineapple chunks mixed in that counterbalance the meat well. Also, the name is based on a pun in Chinese: 魚你在一起 / 鱼你在一起 (yú nǐ zài yīqǐ, "fish with you") sounds like 與你在一起 / 与你在一起 (yǔ nǐ zài yīqǐ, "together with you"). It's cute, and it matches the shared soup vibes!

Great food with fast service. Great lunch choice. Rice is free. This is a go to place if you don't know what you eat at San Mateo dt.

Signature pickled vegetable broth w/ snakehead fish
    Julian L.

Came here for a casual dinner and left with scorched taste buds and a weird craving for Spaghettios. We tried two broths with snakehead fish -- signature and tomato. The signature broth hits hard. Pickled vegetables add a nice tang, but the spice level is no joke. The snakehead fish was tender and flavorful, but if you're sensitive to heat, skip sipping the soup and just eat what's in it. Trust me. The tomato broth was a welcome cooldown. Milder, comforting, but also kind of artificial -- like someone used a can of Spaghettios and called it a day. Not terrible, just oddly familiar. Ordering is efficient -- scan the QR code at your table, punch in your choices, and the food shows up fast.

Do you use peanuts or tree nuts in your dishes? My kids have nut food allergies.

I guess you can get it without nuts as for example the roasted chili spice mixture was in a separate small pot next to the soup bowl.

What kind of fish is used in these dishes?

Big gaps between rounds made me feel like I wasted a lot of time for the AYCE price. (-1) Their appetizers and "from the wok" section was not impressive. We tried their calamari and their onion rings and both were over-fried. We also tried their garlic noodles and their crab fried rice. The garlic noodles were super watery. My partner did enjoy the crab fried rice and could taste the crab. For the main entrees, we ordered shrimp, snow crabs, and clams, all perfectly cooked! Plump and flavorful. The sauce was pretty thick and garlicky-- 10/10 sauce lol it was almost creamy? Their service was fine. The staff were pretty attentive and they were always asking if we needed anything outside of rounds. (-1) You do have to finish every single piece of seafood in your round before you can request more, and it takes a long time for the next round to arrive. I felt like I waited 10 minutes between each round. If you're the kind of person that likes to maximize your eating time, you might find this super frustrating. This was really my only issue but wouldn't stop me from visiting again and considering à la carte only vs AYCE.

The person who answered the phone was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. They happily answered all of my (probably silly!) questions and even asked whether we preferred to sit indoors or outdoors. The day before our reservation, I received a confirmation message, which was a thoughtful touch. When we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth. The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, and what stood out most was how sincere it felt. These weren't just professional smiles--they made us feel like truly welcomed guests. Our server, Stefania (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly!), was absolutely wonderful. She was warm, funny, attentive, and made our evening even more enjoyable. She asked whether we'd like to watch the game, whether we preferred a table in the shade, and even offered to bring a heater later in the evening if it became chilly. It was clear that everyone genuinely wanted us to have the best possible experience. The food was outstanding. Our group had very different tastes, yet every single person found something they loved, and everyone left happy. Every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Overall, Bahche exceeded our expectations in every way. We left feeling appreciated rather than just served, and that makes all the difference. Would I come back? Without a second thought. We ordered the ceviche ($21), papas bravas ($11), kale salad ($17), salmon ($35), and seafood pasta ($34). The ceviche was fresh and I really liked the citrusy notes (it was quite tropical and I thought it was possibly passionfruit?). The papas bravas was a decent sized serving and came with an addictive sauce. The kale salad came with a piece of fried feta and the only fault I found with it... was that I wanted more fried feta bits! Salmon was cooked well, and I liked the accompanying veggies - seemed like a very healthy Mediterranean dish. The seafood pasta was also very good. Husband said the fish in his dish was cooked even better than mine. Lastly, they offered us a whole complimentary dessert. We were already beyond stuffed at that point, but who are we to turn down a coconut creme brulee? Another review said they couldn't taste the coconut, but it's definitely there.
