Bonus points for being surrounded by parking garages because we've all fought enough downtown parking battles. The Korean fusion menu absolutely delivers. The gochujang fried chicken was and an easy favorite. The beef tartare was tasty too, though the beef-to-everything-else ratio had me playing a little game of "where's the tartare?" Now let's talk about the kimchi carbonara... I would happily order a bowl of just the sauce and drink it like soup. No shame. It was THAT good. Service was attentive, we were seated immediately on a Saturday night (always a pleasant surprise), and everything came out quickly. The servers were attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. We ordered the Mango Scallop Ceviche, Kimchi Carbonara Cast Iron, Bulgogi Nachos, Nori Pasta, Corn Ribs, Creme Brulee French Toast, Mango Pancakes, and their matcha drinks. Our absolute favorites were the Creme Brulee French Toast and the Kimchi Carbonara Cast Iron. The French toast was unforgettable we're still talking about it even after leaving! It's rich, perfectly caramelized, and definitely something I'd come back for. The kimchi carbonara had a creamy sauce with just the right amount of spice and was another standout. The Mango Scallop Ceviche was fresh, refreshing, and packed with flavor, while the Bulgogi Nachos were loaded and perfect for sharing. The Nori Pasta wasn't our favorite overall, so we probably wouldn't order it again. That said, the bulgogi on top was incredibly delicious--it was honestly the best part of the dish. The pasta itself just didn't quite come together for us. The Corn Ribs were good, but we felt like they were missing a little something to make them really memorable. The Mango Pancakes looked beautiful, but we probably wouldn't order them again. As for the matcha drinks, we wouldn't recommend them. They tasted too bland for our liking, and we could barely taste the matcha. Overall, Whisper has a great atmosphere, excellent service, and several dishes that are worth coming back for. It's such a generous amount of assortment of different potatoes in the country fried format! Service is so accommodating. What an absolute gem of a find! The vibe here is the perfect balance of chill and bustling, spread across a beautiful two-story space. The staff is incredibly warm, and the service is seamless. Best of all? Rolling in at 10:00 AM meant completely bypassing the brutal lines at Stacks and walking straight to a table. As for the food--wow. The Wagyu skillet was the absolute star of the show. It came accompanied by these incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned house potatoes. Now for the food: Wagyu truffle yukke (4/5): my favorite dish of the night. The pear is always the star and this version was no exception. I loved the little sauce though the fact that this was wagyu made no difference. Same could be said for the truffle. Truffle cream oyster mushrooms (4/5): not bad. Pretty rich. Wish they gave more bread. Again, truffle felt forced here but flavor did come through more than in the yukke. Kimchi carbonara (2/5): this was the dish that ruined the night. This dish felt like someone took a regular "okay" carbonara and added kimchi just to make some instagram posts. The flavor of kimchi was barely noticeable and really did not feel like it even belonged. I would skip this. Overall, I would not wait in line for this place. We arrived around 10:30 AM on a Sunday and had added our name to the waitlist in advance, which made the process easy. By the time we got there, the wait was only about five minutes. The food was visually impressive and beautifully plated, but I found some of the flavors a bit lacking. The kimchi carbonara, in particular, was not quite for me. The bulgogi was noticeably sweet, which ended up making the entire dish taste sweeter than I would have liked. The steak and potatoes were decent and cooked well enough, but they felt underseasoned and lacked the flavor needed to make the dish memorable. Overall, it came across as a fairly basic steak-and-potatoes plate. While the meal did not completely live up to the hype for me, I would be willing to give it another try. Whisper took over the space of Wursthall (RIP, I miss you), so I was excited to finally see what this new spot was all about. I'm usually a bit skeptical of fusion foods and sometimes find the combinations can feel a little shoehorned together, but the Kimchi Carbonara worked surprisingly well! The tang from the kimchi was the perfect counter to cut right through the richness of the heavy carbonara sauce. The Shoyu Butter Corn Ribs were good and fun to eat. Pro-tip, make sure you have some floss handy afterwards. As for the Gochujang Fried Chicken, the batter was crispy. The sauce definitely skews more sweet than heat. If you've ever had yangnyeom chicken, the flavor profile is very similar to that! We shared these three dishes between the two of us and it was the perfect amount of food. I ordered the axe iron skillet, my son had the mango pancakes and my husband ordered a burger (forgot what it was called). The axe skillet was great! Meat was tender and flavorful and veggie medley was seasoned well. I had some of the mango pancakes and the batter was soft and moist. The mango cream on top wasnt too sweet which was great for our five year old. My husband unfortunately didn't like his burger as much. He said the meat was overcooked and the nacho cheese flavor overpowered everything else. Other than his burger, we had an amazing experience with all the dishes. Even the Ube latte i had which the server had offered a decaf as an alternative and it came in clutch because it was late. Highly recommend this place! We will be back soon. Whisper is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in San Mateo! The dinner menu did not disappoint. The space is beautiful and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. We especially loved the Truffle Wagyu Yukke and the bone marrow--both were packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and attentive, and every dish felt thoughtfully crafted. Food was good and flavorful. Although the menu was a bit difficult to understand. They have some kid options as well. I enjoyed the chicken and croffles . I will return to try more options. Staff was attentive although food did not come out all together and took sort of a long time. This place is still new so be patient. read more

Super cute spot for brunch in downtown San Mateo! Metered street parking all around, but can get busy on the weekends. We joined the yelp waitlist and checked in when we arrived, it was about a 30 minute wait on a busy Saturday. Our server was very nice and quick. Some of the highlights we ordered were: - both lattes were delicious! And not too sweet - seafood jjambbong pasta was well-spiced without being too spicy I would come back again to try some of their other dishes. Love the asian twist of flavors too.
