First off, the server we had was good. He had a lot of information, but I don't think he had any taste buds because all the food he said tasted good, wasn't really. We stopped here hungry on our way to meet family to check into our rental house. The place was pretty dead and was later told it was a tourist trap. We had various items here and I can tell you the good, the bad and the ugly. The specialty drinks are out of this world. The bartender has that down pat. There are even specialty glassware to accompany each specialty drink like a volcano, a shark and a carved coconut cup. The Koolaide was especially tasty. The fried oysters were gross, soggy breading and mushy chewy oysters. Didn't eat but 1/4 the sandwich. Clam chowder - ew gross. It tasted wrong like it was stored in metal too long. Must be canned? The special of the day was the teriyaki tuna steak sandwich. THAT was a good choice. It was cooked just right and tasted very good. If given the choice again, I would skip this place. read more

Went there on a Sunday night. The AC was not working and there were no windows and no way to eat outside. The food is very average - you should expect nothing more and nothing less. The best service, drinks and meal we had during our week in Southern Shores! The fresh blackened grouper was delicious and my husband enjoyed his Hurricane burger. This was our favorite spot. Staff is great, always went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing visit. Tried other restautants, but ended up wishing we had not wasted our time. We come to Duck every year and we were very excited to try Fishbones. Upon entry we were reassured that we had made the right choice for our Duck dining experience. We were seated and then the waiting began. We eventually ordered and got an alright broccoli potato skins appetizer with a slight taste of freezer burn. But that was ok because we had a catch of the day burrito and pork tacos on the way...or so we thought... About 50 mins after arriving and a solid 20 minutes after the appetizer was cleared we were still waiting. Rather than let them rob us of more of our day, we decided to go back to our house. On the way out, we paid for all of our food. We were asked about our experience and we said we never got our food. Multiple people repeated- "I'm sorry, I don't know what happened." As a chef (my wife also)id advise no one to visit this place. Our servicer was inexperienced to b nice. We have a child and her food and drink(Which we asked for ASAP and reminded her a dozen times) came out directly before our food which took well over an hour including apps. the shark bites were horrific. i conch fritters were the best thing wenhad even though they were all filling. the drinks were expensive and. . .ok. our entrees were absolutely terrible. everything was over seasoned and i live salt. Also a 2$ on the expensive scale? We had two alcoholic beverages a piece and including our childs meal with tip included(due to being part of a 6 top), our bill was $130. We were in the mood for fried seafood and this place was a great stop. Clam chowder was tasty and the fried scallops were awesome. My husband and mother inlaw got fried clams and his dad got fried shrimp. They were served with potatos and vegetables, both very good. The seafood was lightly fried which we liked. I recently went here on a mini vaca 2 N.C...My manfriend and I have been on a mission 2 find a good meal 4 a long time now and I swear it's becoming even harder. We ended up at fishbones one night with his 2 kids and my god was it the greatest meal I have had in months! We were starving so between tha four of us we ordered, crab dip, crab wontons, oysters, pallella and crabs legs....I do not have one complaint! The two guys on duty were great as well! I also loved the tiki bar look it was really nice...if I ever find myself going back to that state I will definitely go there! read more

As beach foods goes, it's pretty good. Service was decent. Food was good. The thing that bothered me was 6 plus dollars for the kids pasta. My son basically got a small plate of pasta and some sauce. I mean it was a tiny plate. For a dollar more, I got a large veggie burger and a bunch of fries. I think the kids pasta is worth about $3. read more

Fair. Had oysters, which did not seem as fresh as I had every day in the outer Banks. Did not even serve horseradish. Good kids meal. Probably good for families but not foodies. Just left Fishbone and I am very pleased with the changes that have been made. We have been coming to Duck for 9 years and on the night of our arrival we always go to Bonefish. In past years it has been okay, but nothing special. It was more of a tradition than anything. Since last year they have redecorated and hired new staff and really dialed in their menu. The old tiki bar has been traded out for a new clean look. The menu has been refined and I can't say enough about Beth and Chris. They had a full bar and restaurant and they kept up flawlessly. They were efficient and personable. We will now really look forward to our tradition every year. read more

Absolutely terrible, completely unprofessional staff. This trip all started with a trip to OBX with the plan to get dinner at our favorite local spot "cravings". They however had closed outdoor seating due to rain. Started searching for a place that allows dogs. This is how we ended up here. First of all walked into the restaurant and waited for the hostess to ask questions about deck seating. I was ignored until I said something. Other couples who came in after me had been addressed to be clear. I asked about deck seating and was told we could order take out and eat on the deck. Went down to the car got my two children and pup out of the car, got everyone settled on the deck and started to review the menu. We had decided what to order and proceeded to attempt this obviously overwhelming feat of placing an order here. No one had any idea where I could get this task completed. The waitress than informs me that they are no longer taking take out orders, mind you this is at 730pm on Saturday! They close at 12am. Ridiculous! Because someone was too lazy to find out the solution to my completely insane and unrealistic expectations of ordering takeout, they just didn't do it. Will not be coming back or recommending. They should probably not treat everyone who enters their doors like a tourist and realize that Currituck residents make their business run 8 months out of the year. read more

Fantastic service. Our drinks came within a minute, and everything else arrived in a very timely matter. We were in and out in an hour. Not very crowded, but it was Wednesday. However, the food was nothing to brag about. The crabcakes were overcooked, and the veggies that came with my meal were over seasoned. My boyfriends food was great, however, My appetizer (fried calamari, pretty basic for a beach restaurant) came soggy because it was sitting in the marinara sauce as opposed to having the sauce on the side. As the 3rd restaurant we've been too since arriving, this one was great. Our server Lindsay was so attentive and welcoming, quite refreshing in an area where locals not always friendly. We got the calamari, the crab dip and the scallops. The calamari is pretty run-of-the-mill, not spicy at all. Crab dip was bland, needed a lot of their personal brand hot sauce. But the scallops! Came in for lunch during the off-season on a weekday afternoon. The restaurant was busy but not packed and the food took quite some time to arrive. Kids chicken finger meal came with apple sauce and not fries as ordered, the waitress corrected this. Sandwiches were good but side of onion straws were mostly burnt. Prices are not bad for the area. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is the worst meal and overall dining experience that I've had in recent memory. Our orders were not correct and the menu, which stated some dishes were only for lunch, is not correct either. The oysters were extremely small and had an odd texture. Scallops were terrible as was the coconut shrimp. Very overpriced as they charged us for the more expensive dish without telling us. Will never eat here again and I would recommend you don't either. I rarely write reviews, especially negative ones...but this was atrocious. read more

Fishbones is not what it used to be, completely remodeled. Just re-opened with its new look, new menu so it's needs this new review it deserves because the 2.5 stars it has now is way off. Reasonably priced, great fresh seafood and great everything else, we brought six people and pretty much covered the menu. Our server was Michelle and she got everything right. I hope all the returning Duck vacationers that remembered Fishbones as an outdated tiki bar give it another try because you will truly be impressed. read more

We came back to Fishbones this year because we very much enjoyed our dinner out there last year. The menu has changed and is more limited; and the online menu has not been updated so some members of our party were disappointed that they couldn't order what they anticipated after looking at the menu online. The waitstaff were ok; we were seated in a reasonable amount of time although they didn't want to pull the tables together for us...not sure why as it wasn't very crowded. Not a huge deal. Most of the food was ok; nothing spectacular but the lobster tails that two of us ordered were seasoned with some sort of old bay type seasoning and so much salt that it literally burned my tongue. I am glad I ate the steamed clams first because I couldn't taste much after that. The other person couldn't even finish her lobster tail. Very disappointing especially at $15 per tail. Lobster tails don't even need seasoning...a little drawn butter and you are good to go. Not sure what the chef is thinking there but it might as well have been tofu because you certainly couldn't taste lobster. The fries that came with some of the meals were extremely salty as well; couldn't eat more than a couple. The blackened tuna was deemed enjoyable and the chef did cook the scallops in a scampi style rather than fry them at the request of one of our party so it was not all bad. The kids enjoyed their steamed crab legs. It just wasn't nearly as good as last year and the chef was way too heavy handed with the salt. read more
