Food was decent. Perfectly cooked. I'm was hoping for more options but it was a nice change from my repetitive meals. I was looking for a fish market Georgia style...Many different fresh fish options on ice. You pick it, they clean it and fry it. This is a scaled down version of that. Overall, it's ok if I want to eat something other than catfish (I'm dying for Bream) which is often. Pretty hidden location, must have gps to find it unless you've been here before. Smells wonderful when you walk in, I can see where some people say the customer service isn't the best. They don't seem to enthusiastic about it, but about the food, yeah absolutely delicious! We used to go to this restaurant years ago, but stopped because it started not to be as good. I read rave reviews a couple of weeks ago, and my husband checked their menu, and said the prices were great, and a lot of fantastic reviews. We ordered today, the fish, shrimp, oysters, and fries. The online menu said a salad came with it, but it doesn't. The prices are not great, wrong online, two orders were $45.44. The oysters tasted "fishy", which, to me, wasn't fresh. I recently had lunch with my wife and son here. I had the 3 fish with 5 shrimp combo and my wife had the same while our boy had the 10 wings. The fish and shrimp were really good in a above basic way but the wings were just basic, not really above average but just average. We added 3 sodas and 6 spring rolls to the meal which brought the total to $52.00 I was expecting bigger portions for that dollar amount. You can see the minimal amount of fries, small portions of fish and smaller shrimp plus that stingy ass lemon wheel. If we eat here again it might be out of convenience, the food was good but just not enough to justify the cost. If you do eat here be sure to have extra time, we waited about 20+ minutes for our meals which isn't a problem for good food which this was, im just letting who ever is reading this know that this is not fast food in any way. Fries - crispy and great flavor Oysters- crispy and can use a little more seasoning but very good still. Not oily or greasy which is a major plus. Portions of 5 small pieces is okay but if hungry, need to order more or something else all together: maybe the Captains plate which has everything @ $14.99... Might be to heavy. 4 piece red snapper with fries $6.99 with small calamari. I wanted drum but they are always out and I didn't want catfish, so I tried red snapper. I'm full but the pieces were thinner than I was craving. Brink's has that 3 piece thick cut drum with fries for $13. A couple of the thinner pieces were dry. I was a little disappointed today with snapper but I like their catfish. Calamari was almost fast foodish. I have a little grease after taste in my mouth. This is okay if I lived on walzem but I'm not driving again. Need other option for cheap fish that's plump not thin. I may try Chicken Express, GG's Marion, or the rusty Rooster Seguin or Bayseas converse. When I say cheap I mean 3 heavy fillets with fries in the $9.95 area or below. Fishland has a very friendly and capable staff, happy to serve any version of fried fish you want. They're pretty popular, so occasionally there's a wait. I was in town for work and wanted some fried fish. Saw this place on yelp and decided to try it out. First and last time! Pros: Very friendly staff. I wanted the whole tilapia and they unfortunately did not have it but the staff was very willing to help me find something else that I might find delicious. I ended up ordering the Buffalo Ribs combo and Fish and Shrimp combo. Food was cooked to order and ready in about 15 minutes. First thing, I LOVE buffalo fish. I purchase it quite frequently and this by far was the worst tasting buffalo I've had. Not to mention, I paid for 3 ribs, which are the most expensive part of this fish and only received 2 and some random piece. In addition, it had the fishiest taste (almost as if it wasn't fresh). I couldn't even eat it and it went straight in the trash. The Fish and Shrimp combo faired a little better and this is why I gave them 2 stars. The tilapia was cooked well, not much seasoning but definitely seemed fresher in taste than the buffalo. The shrimp were the best part of the meal. I did notice that the menu stated I would receive a salad with my combos but I only saw fries and hush puppies. Probably would be a good idea for the restaurant to update their menu if this is no longer offered. Definitely not my cup of tea so I probably wouldn't be back but if you do decide to go try the shrimp or maybe the catfish that everyone else on Yelp seems to enjoy. read more

I was just re-reading my review for the Houston spot and like Pavlov's Bell it made my mouth water. Like my favorite spot in Houston this is a Fish Market you can buy fresh fish here, but they'll cook it for you as well. Even though they have a few tables, most people take their food to go. Just like my spot in Houston and a place similar in Lafayette, Fishland is in the hood, my hood to be exact. Walzem Rd, was the main strip, for kids growing up in my neighborhood. I almost feel ashamed that when I wanted this type of food I didn't look here. So I'm gonna make it official if you want good fried fish, shrimp, and oysters you have to come to the Eastside to get it. I tried several different things so I could get a good sense for the food, The Fried Cod, was perfect. The Extra Large Shrimp was seasoned and battered just right. Something magical happened when I took my first bite of the Fried Oysters! I normally don't like hush puppies, I associate them with Long John Silvers, but these where amazing. The most expensive item on the menu is the Seaman's Plate at $14.99. This mountainous assortment of fried delights features fish (your choice of cod, pollock, tilapia, catfish and one or two more), shrimp, scallops and oysters--served with a salad, fries, hush puppies and a dinner roll. I couldn't decide which fish I wanted, so they let me get one piece of catfish and one of cod. Both were good, but the cod was exceptional. My wife had a nice fried shrimp plate for just $9.99. Everything we ate was fantastic. Despite the fact that the menu consists almost exclusively of fried seafood, there's no greasy or fishy odor here. The seating area is small and far from fancy, but it's clean and the people are friendly. They also offer a few Asian items like spring rolls and dumplings if that's your deal. Why can't I have craving for something like tofu kale salad or flax seed smoothie? Instead, I craved for fried food the whole week, and finally broke down on Friday to come by for lunch. I got the Catfish steak and an order of vegetarian egg roll. The cashier told me Catfish steak takes longer than other dishes, which is fine. About 15 mins later, I got my order. The egg roll is good, however, I didn't like the sauce, it is watery. The Catfish steak, is freshly out of the fryer, hot and juicy. Put some hot sauce or dipping in tartar sauce, and you got yourself some delicious fried fish. My tip of the day: Don't come here hungry and order something that takes longer to make, because by the time you got your food, and they are fryer fresh, you might burn yourself because you can't wait for your food to cool down.
