It was my first time trying this place and I was not disappointed! There is plenty of parking and a bus stop nearby. The decor was ocean core but not overwhelming at all. You either order at the far back counter, if dining, or at the other counter near the entrance and on the left, if ordering their seafood items. The very honest and friendly cashier made great recommendations. We ended up trying the coconut shrimp, catfish, and spaghetti Mac n cheese. The dining area has moveable tables to accommodate large groups, so this is a great spot to gather a large group or family. They bring your food to your table. I really like the sweet and spicy sauce for the shrimp. The catfish filets were perfectly fried and lightly breaded, and large in size. It was not pricy for the quality and quantity of the food. We will definitely come back to try more items!

Maybe I caught them on an off day. I have been looking forward to trying this place for years and finally stopped in to give them a try. If you're eating in the dining area, you order at the counter, and they bring out your food when it's ready. Other than that, it is entirely self service, to include getting drinks. Based on previous reviews, and the fact it is also a seafood market, I was expecting really tasty food. I ordered the Go Fish dinner, choosing cod and oysters, along with okra and hush puppies. Unfortunately, I would grade what I got about high school cafeteria level. The oysters had a nice fresh flavour, but all the other items were pretty bland, and not served hot. Usually, fried foods prepared fresh need to cool down so you don't burn your mouth, but all my items were warm at best. The fish and okra were pretty chewy, and after I started eating, I noticed my hushpuppies didn't make it out to my table. When I went back to the counter and asked, the lady turned to the kitchen, said "I need an order of hushpuppies", and was handed the order in a little paper tray immediately. So, obviously some items are precooked and just sitting before being handed out. Overall disappointed, and it was pretty spendy for the quality I got, and the fact the process is about like going to a fast food place. Not at all what I anticipated.

This place has been around for forever which speaks volumes! I always come for fresh seafood and lunchtime. They are only open Wed-Saturday. That's the only negative because there are times on Sunday/tues where I'm craving Quality! Today I had the alligator sausage and crawfish stew and slammed 3lbs of the most delicious crawfish I've had in town! I'll be back for more!

Food is always well-prepared, tasty, and fairly priced. My wife and I had the black drum. I had it blackened and she had it broiled. Nice size piece of fish with a Caesar salad and fried okra. Okra was a really large portion and perfectly fried. Lots of choices on the menu and quite a few specials. I started with steamed clams which were really good, served in a broth with some toasted bread for dipping. Lots of parking and seating and a bar area too. Why not 5 stars? So, food was 5 star worthy. And almost every person that served us was friendly, upbeat, and clearly interested in providing a great customer experience. Alas, the woman that took our order was a sour pus, seamed annoyed with answering questions, and truly a downer. No idea what burden she was carrying, but go home and come back in a better mood the next day. And, she forgot to deliver my beer, small thing really, but just added to her negative customer service. Ugh! This is a great place to eat seafood in a clean, simply decorated space.

Fish and chips. Fail on the crust, chewy and not appetizing.

Gotta say, this could have been better. Came in because they offer senior pricing for some plates. Yay! But, I was very disappointed in my order, which was the fried cod and french fries. The fries were actually ok, slight coating of flour, not my favorite way for fries but they were not bad per se. The fish though really failed at the coating. You know how you take fried fish home and reheat it later and the crust feels a bit 'tough' or slightly 'chewy'. While I was impressed with the size of the two pieces, the crust was a fail for me and I only ate one piece. I will still go back to this restaurant, they do have tons of other choices, which we've had in the past and were good. Maybe this was a bad batter day :)

If you like seafood, this is seriously your place to go to. There is a market within the restaurant so you can pick a fish and have them cook it or pick something off the menu. For us, it's the oysters that keeps us coming back. On this visit the snow crab was also on special so we got a pound of crab, a dozen of oysters and some beers and had a time at the bar. Seriously, every visit to Austin includes a trip to Quality Seafood. So grab a seat at the bar, make a new friend and enjoy a great meal . . . Thank me later.

Come here for the food without any frills, definitely not for the environment. Outside looks uninviting but when you walk in, you're transported to an in-house quasi fish market along with a deli of sorts. There's a huge spot to sit down so choose anywhere you'd like after you pay a pretty penny for all the food. Yes, it's good but the prices are just through the roof. It's a casual spot but you're gonna be paying premium prices. I'll be back if I can afford it again in the future and if I find myself in that part of town. Service is okay. It's what you would expect from an old diner type vibe - everything that you need and nothing that you don't. People are friendly but not over the top. Heating could have been better because it was a bit chilly inside on the winter day when I visited with my Wife.

Had a bit of the entire menu. Got the gumbo, fried fish, oyster tacos, coconut shrimp and a blackened shrimp poboy. The staff was friendly and fast when bringing out the food. The restaurant is large with spaced out seating. Giving the food 5 stars, only dislike was the French fries which were cold. But the cod was amazing and flavorful. The oyster taco was crispy and the blackened shrimp were great. Definitely coming back.

I've been wanting to see this restaurant and dine in. We decided since it is Saturday what better time to drop by for lunch. Parking lot always seems to be full, which is a good sign for a restaurant of the size. Quality seafood wholesale is right off of 290 at airport Boulevard heading into town. So much going on inside. It's not just a restaurant, they have a bar with bar seating that will also feed you. There is also a meat market counter with fresh fish on ice that you can purchase independently of eating here. There is also a large dining room for many large parties. We sat at a table and ordered mini large plotters of oysters. Some were East Coast's served over ice and we ordered a couple of grilled California coast oysters that were huge! I also ordered a blackened, Black Drum fish. If you haven't had it, it's a meaty, white fish. It's really good. I will have to come back for this one alone. It was served with a side of green beans and a Caesar salad. All was recommended by my server, Jackson. This guy was cool. Understood all the plates that they served and understood my needs... Especially when my wife had many choices. If you like a lively restaurant come here on a Friday night. I am sure this place gets packed with people. For lunch I was delighted to see their was an average amount of people seated. They were grilling outside and it smelled wonderful. The fragrance hits you as soon as you get out of your car. I was ready to eat at that point. Again thank you, Jackson. You made our visit an epic afternoon. See you again, my friend.

Quality Seafood is just what the name implies, a no-frills place for decent seafood. However, my latest visit left much to be desired. You could say they combine old fashioned charm with modern declining standards. I'd give it 3.5 stars if that were an option, but I'm rounding down to 3. The good - The day we visited they were running a crab special. We got a pound of boiled broken crab legs for $19, but they didn't look broken to me. I would assume they were letting less-than-perfect crab leg clusters accumulate in their freezer and then unloading them all as a special today? My friend and I found the crab delicious. She also loved her oysters, but I can't stand oysters so I can't comment any more on those. The disappointment- My favorite thing at Quality Seafood might be their macaroni and cheese made with spaghetti. This time, the cheese on top was kind of burnt - not black, but rock solid as if it had been kept under heat for a long time. I also tried the clam chowder which did not taste much like clam chowder. The serving presentation was sloppy, and I kept dragging my sleeve through the spilled chowder. The vegetables were fine. When I got home, my husband said I smelled like a "smelly pirate hooker" (a line from Anchorman.) I don't remember too much of a fishy smell, but I guess it accumulated over time. It was a bummer to have to do an unexpected load of laundry just because I went out to dinner.

Decent seafood, impressive selection of oysters. Oysters can be on the smaller side, so come prepared to order more than a dozen. Casual atmosphere with lots of tables. Friendly staff. Prices are on the higher end for fried seafood. Overall decent place to get seafood in the area. Worth going at least once.

When I come here I get a trio of fried Oysters, shrimp and catfish. With a cold beer it's about as good as it gets and satisfies that fried seafood craving. It's very reliable and the setting is very casual. Service is always friendly.

What's not to love? Quality food at great prices served by incredibly friendly folks. That's a win for me. And I think it goes without saying, a business that's been around since 1938 clearly knows what they're doing. Terrific happy hour deals, and so many regular faces. I personally prefer sitting at the bar where everyone is chatty and cheery, but there is table seating as well. Super cute decor, clean bathrooms, and plenty of parking are bonuses as well.

    Yes they do.

    Not here

Does their seafood gumbo contain oysters? I'm hoping NOT so that I can order a bowl!

Hey Terry, I'm not positive since I didn't eat their gumbo, but if I remember correctly it did not. If by chance it does, they're pretty accommodating and will likely prepare it without the oysters. Enjoy! 😉

Mon- Thursday 3 Pm - 6 PM Gulf on the 1/2 shell HH $1

Yeah they serve them on the half shell, usually gulf oysters

I added an egg, and it made for a healthy, delicious, and satisfying lunch. My husband, however, ordered the gumbo, and that dish was unfortunately disappointing. It was watery, very salty, and came with barely any rice, so we ended up with a lot of salty stew left over. There also wasn't much crab or shrimp, and the seafood we did find was tough and overcooked. Based on other reviews, I can see why Mongers may still be worth another visit if you stick strictly to their seafood-focused dishes. Plus there were clumps in it that should've been blended out. However, it was refreshing and I could MAYBE see myself returning on a hot day for more if I'm close by. They only offer it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It's good, but no need to run for this. You can walk. Lol. It scratched the itch but I'm not running back for it.
