And honestly, you can't go wrong with either choice. Yes, there are a few differences (BFT has squat racks and mirrors, F45 is mirror-less and not all of their studios have upgraded their equipment to include racks), but at the end of the day both offer 45-minute classes designed to get your heart rate up with a mix of cardio and light strength work. As long as the instructors are motivating, the studio is clean, and the programming keeps things fresh (both rotate workouts daily), you're set up for a great workout experience. I've popped into the Dana Point BFT a few times and every experience has been great. The instructors are super friendly and attentive, the workouts are varied enough to keep me interested, and I always get a good sweat. And for those of you who are not familiar with the format, each workout is displayed on a TV screen, so if you're ever looking for a refresher on what the move is or if your form is correct (and the instructor is currently occupied helping out someone else), it's an easy reference point to look at. My only comment is that it would be great if they offered some kind of bundle or crossover membership with the Yoga6 one street over. From what I understand, they're part of the same fitness family, and it would be such a perfect pairing...strength and circuit training at BFT, balanced out with stretching and mobility work at YogaSix. It feels like the kind of combo that would keep members healthier, more consistent, and less injury-prone.

    I've always been fitness minded and throughout my life been involved in some sort of fitness…read moreroutine whether it be weight lifting at the gym, martial arts training, bootcamp, aerial sports (pole & lyra hoop) or Yoga. The one thing I haven't done is seek the help of a personal trainer for a customized fitness program, and, at 58 I decided to do just that. I recently switched to a whole food plant-based (WFPB) diet due to health issues and was thrilled to find Vegan Viking Fit in Dana Point. Part of the reason I sought a personal trainer was because I wasn't sure I could maintain my level of fitness on my new diet. After meeting Rick it was clear that it is totally achievable. He is incredibly fit on a plant-powered diet. I am amazed and inspired. I've been training with him for six months now and though it's a bit of a drive for me, it's well worth it. The routines he works out for me based on my fitness goals are top-notch and he keeps things fun. Rick has a great personality and sense of humor. I appreciate his knowledge of both fitness and nutrition and will continue to train with him. If you're looking for a fitness trainer, I HIGHLY recommend Rick at Vegan Viking Fit even if you're not WFPB (vegan). There's no judgement here about diet - just great fitness!

Simply put, Richard is on another level and if you are fortunate enough to work with him what immediately becomes clear is he knows his stuff. He is a walking Ted Talk and Master Class of fitness and nutrition and he's probably already read whatever book you have on either subject. A true professional who shows up on time and seems to know how to share just the right amount of technical and clinical knowledge without overwhelming you. And what you get on top of all that is a real person. He is approachable and open about his own fitness journey which allows him to bring a contagious energy to each workout that balances accountability and a sense of humor. Do yourself a solid and contact him. I promise it will be a win-win for both of you.
