I viewed numerous before and after photos of procedures done by Doctor Berkowitz and knew he was the doctor for me. All of my procedures were done by Doctor Berkowitz personally. During visits, staff are in attendance but Doctor Berkowitz does all the work. I can't count all of the compliments I continue to receive. Saw the Dr. once and made it seem if I didn't have the surgery as soon as possible that I would go blind, not true!! Cataract surgery is elective and in less your vision gets severely effected, it isn't an emergency. I saw the Dr. only the one time, they scheduled my procedure without even being able to meet with the Dr. to descuss pro's and cons! Sent me for multiple tests and didn't get any results. Needless to say I cancelled the surgery after spending great amounts of time and money! I would not recommend this practice to anyone if they care about their eyes!

He made me feel really insecure about my eyes because I had smaller eyes than most people. (ps I'm Asian lol) he kept yelling at me telling me to open my eyes bigger and I was trying my best. He gave my hopes up saying I'm most likely will be a candidate for lasik, then doctor comes in and tell me I wasn't. And that I should look into PRK. The bad experience made me give up on lasik. Wearing mask and glasses can get a bit annoying. And my glasses kept sliding down my face causing my ears to hurt. Plus I would like to wear my eyeliner more often without contacts. My prescription was really bad it was a -7. My cousin recommended his place and I trust his opinion. So I made my consultation! (The consultation and lasik surgery is at two different location. Consultation is in Dearborn.) Make sure you have someone to drive you, once you arrive only you can come in, but make sure to call ahead of time. Everyone was so nice. Barb examined my eyes, also she dilated my eyes. Which lasted for a whole day, that is why you need a driver. She didn't make me feel insecure about my eyes! She just kept telling me I'm doing a great job. Barb is also the one who calls you the Friday before your lasik appt to give you the time of the arrival, I believe the surgery day is every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Thank you Barb for your patience and kindness, it really goes a long way. Then Dr.Akler came to examine my eye, oh by the way I DID NOT NEED PRK. I got approved as a candidate for lasik. Dr.Akler is so kind. The whole staff is Is amazing! I made my appointment for my lasik for October 20, 2021! (Today is the day after!! And I already can see and writing this review!) Okay so come the Friday before my lasik date, Barb called me, she let me know my appointment time, and send in my prescription eyedrop a to my pharmacist. She gave my direction for the eye drops and to start my artificial tear eyedrops if I haven't already. On the day of lasik, which is located in Fraser. Crystal called me in to examine my eyes, another lady came and gave me to Valium I believe that's what it's called, which is to help calm my nerves which boy did that work! I was taken to a massage chair to relax!! A massage chair!! I had taken my glasses off so from there everything was a blur. But I would love to thank DR. Akler and her team! Best team and I hope you guys stick together and grow the team! Okay so then they came and got me from the massage chair, took me to the surgery room laid me down. Dr. Akler and her team was just chit chatting and that already made me forget about my fear plus that Valium. But she also told me all the steps and when I was going to feel pressure and what she was going to do and what I should do. It was easy peasy and fast!! I really just love how great the team was and how chill they were with each other. After the surgery was down they took me into a room and Dr.Akler examined my eyes to make sure the flap was good, then they sent me home with sleeping goggles and sunglasses. When I came home my eyes did aches a lot but once I went to sleep and woke up it was gone. I kept my eyes closed the whole day and opened them this morning and it's just a miracle and amazing that I can see. Went to my post op I have 20/15 vision! And everything seems to be great. I come back next month to make sure everything is good. I just cannot thank my cousin enough for recommending this place to me. Thank you Dr.Akler and ALL of her staffs! You all make a great team, I did not feel scared or nervous at all, because I do have social anxiety, but everyone made me feel comfortable. I can tell this team has trust in each other and is very well trained. I'm just so happy EVERYTHING is 100% awesome! I will be recommending this place!! It is worth the drive and money! My eyesight was compromised and I needed experienced individuals for my after surgery care. Naturally, I was extremely cautious in trusting my sight with, yet, another stranger. I was originally slated to see Dr. Simone. An emergency arouse and I had the option of rescheduling for a later date or seeing Dr. Varanelli at roughly the same time and date. Fate is a strange thing. Now, I won't see any other eye guy. The minute I met the doctor I became at ease. He has an incredible way about him. Very calming and polite. A funny man that's the utmost professional. I learned about different tests he performs. He has the ability to provide insight to my overall health by looking in the back of my eyes (I believe there's a small pun in that last sentence). The staff there is very accommodating and efficient. I worked with Emily today and it was good times. I can't tell you whether or not she is great at her job or using that high-tech Star Trek looking stuff the right way. But I passed all my tests with flying colours so I guess she's wonderful. I tried to get a pair of sunglasses through them, and after my first phone call where an employee named Debbie told me how I should pick out the glasses online, I couldn't get a hold of them for two weeks. When they finally answered a call, I spoke to Debbie again and told her what pair I wanted. She said she'd order them and then send them to me when they got to the office. Almost two more weeks later, I tried calling again because I hadn't received the sunglasses yet. For a few days in a row, I kept trying to get a hold of them, but they never once answered or responded to any voicemails I left. Then I find out that Debbie was purposefully screening my calls. After calling a couple times one day, I immediately called back on a different phone number/area code, and Debbie answers right away. She was audibly disappointed that it was me calling, which is honestly very hurtful. I don't want to feel like a hassle when I'm giving someone my business and so much of my time. She told me that she never listened to my voicemail and never ordered the glasses, so I had to stay on the phone with her for a while giving her my info again while she ordered them finally. Again, I've never encountered such an unprofessional situation before, and I hate to judge the whole business based on Debbie, but she was the only one who answers calls I guess. I feel like screening calls and dodging a customer is termination-worthy. I just hope to never have to deal with Debbie again, so I will not be coming here for anything else.

She is thorough and has a great bedside manner, which is very important to me. All the way around it is always a good experience with the Dr. and her staff. My Eye Doctor, Hayes, Shelby Twp, MI It's passed my 30 days…read morebut I just noticed when I had to work on my computer with small numbers that my old glasses worked better then my new glasses from My Eye Doctor. I was told I had to pay for the exam to come back in to have my glasses adjusted to the right lens and I had to pay for the adjustments. They didn't do it right the first time and I'm suppose to pay for their mistake. Don't go there. I spent $800 on 2 pair of glasses and this is how they treat their customers when they mess up. They're not even worth one star.
