When I go the Gym Jax, I'm more motivated and ready to put work in than I have ever been. I'm greeted every day by a smiling staff member. It's the little things that mean the most. Plenty of equipment and machines so it's not a long wait on one particular machine. If it's something you really want to use most likely someone will let you work in with them. I've never been to a Gym that makes you feel like you belong than this one. It's my happy place and I look forward to going every day.

I was in Jax for the week meeting my girlfriend's family (heavy shots I know), and one of her cousins invited me to this F45 he goes to. I obviously agreed as I had been trying to find ways to sneak a workout in and I needed to show him, and the rest of the family by way of the transitive property, that I am an ELITE level athlete. The first circuit was all lower body and I was feeling pretty good. "I still got it" the hero said to himself.... In diabolical contrast, the first three exercises of the 2nd circuit had me talking to God as it went from bicep curls, to push ups, to pull ups back to back to back like the 00-02 Lakers. The rest of the trip I was limping due to lactic acid build up in my legs. Humbled me quick, but I need to push myself to absolute exhaustion as my NYC men's league starts mid-January again. What off-season??? In the midst of this blitzkrieg of arm workouts, "Don't Like" by Chief Keef came on to save me from giving up on myself. Thank you, Mr. Keef. Music was HITTIN in here. After class, I found myself wondering why I don't do more F45 classes as it is the most efficient workout you can do, BLASTING your full body in only 45 minutes is actually fantastic. Shoutout to Caroline, the instructor, as she put together a great class that got me better. Fatigue makes a coward of us all, and if I keep working out like this I will be on fresh legs come the 4th quarter of our NYC basketball men's league games. This location is a bit of a trek for me from my part of Jacksonville, but I found the trek worth it, at least during my vacation months. F45 is a world wide gym chain where locals purchase a franchise. The workouts are between 45 minutes to 60 minutes, but mostly 45 minutes. You can sign up on the website or you can use the F45 app to book your class. The workouts vary depending on the day. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are more cardio based classes. Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday are more power and strength based. Saturday is a mix of cardio and strength. The classes on one day are all the same, but they switch from day to day. Every ten weeks or so all the classes change. Some new classes emerge and some old classes come back onto the schedule. You kind of never know what you are going to get and that is part of the awesomeness of it. We managed to go six days out of seven and we had our butts handed to us constantly. The one day we missed we were both severely sore and could barely move. This F45 has a large community of members that seemed pretty young. I think there were a few really friendly members, but for the most part people kept to themselves. The trainers though were very friendly. Dave was always a pleasure, friendly, and corrected my form when doing exercises with poor form. Membership rates are closer to what you find at Orange Theory as opposed to what LA Fitness costs. If you are looking for a cheap gym this isn't it, but if you can pay the $100+ dollar rates for monthly membership make sure you come at least 4-6 times a week and get your moneys worth. We joined a location a little bit closer to us, but we may come back here for the different atmosphere. I loved how they had a DJ on Saturday spinning tunes live as we killed ourselves picking heavy objects up and putting them over repetitively. This place is definitely worth a visit.

I'm in town from San Diego and dropped in to Crossfit Total Control. I'm relatively new to CF (3…read moremonths in), and dropping in to an unfamiliar box makes me a little apprehensive. I guess it's normal, but there was NO reason for concern! I emailed CF Total Control on Sunday, and Russell (owner/coach) replied to me right away to let me know they'd love to have me. I showed up early for a 7AM Tuesday class, signed the waiver and jumped right in. Crossfit Total Control is an excellent facility - plenty of room and equipment, clean and everything was in good condition. Tom, the coach, and all of the athletes welcomed me. We did a good warm up, followed by stretching and then 2 short WODs. Tom gave great instructions and recommended scaling if necessary. The hour went by fast, and I got a great workout. I plan to drop in again before I return to California. Drop in fee was $15 or purchase a shirt for $25. I purchased 2 shirts! I had a great time getting my butt kicked this morning! If I lived here I'm pretty certain this would be my home box!

After our 5-year-old attended Karate America Neptune Beach for 10 months, his instructor ABRUPTLY…read moreDISAPPEARED. We received no communication from the school or Karate America Headquarters (in fact...3 weeks later, we still have not received an official explanation regarding his departure). One day we showed up for training and the door was locked, the lights were off, and another parent drove up to tell us that class was cancelled that day. We never saw the instructor again after that. We tried 4 classes with new instructors (different each time) and our child left crying each time. We talked through the challenge but after 4 negative experiences and a total lack of consistency, we decide as a family that we were done with karate. I contacted Karate America Headquarters to notify them of our cancellation and they informed me that we were still bound by the 30 days notice in our contract. I asked them if they felt that was fair considering the fact that we were given ZERO notice that the head instructor was leaving. Her response was that the school was given less than 2 weeks notice and that there was nothing they could do about it. When I asked why, if they knew 2 weeks before he was leaving, that they didn't tell anyone....she said she assumed he had told his classes on his own. My guess is that they feared a mass cancellation of memberships so they kept it a secret for as long as possible until they could reach the next billing cycle. Her attempt at a compromise was to let my son continue to attend for a month and then cancel his membership...which I told her was the same thing as holding me to a 30 day cancellation. It's just so disappointing that after paying almost $2,000 for memberships and uniforms and equipment that we don't get a phone call, an email, or even a mass text about major changes in the school. And then, instead of doing the right thing and letting students opt out...they hide behind a contract to suck an extra $149 out of parents who bought into the system that would ultimately fail them.

We pay $150 PLUS a ton of money for our son to be able to participate in "graduation" which was never explained and we expect him to be taught and treated equally since we do the unlimited and "open belt" classes. The red head teacher treated my son and another little girl like they didn't exist today. I couldn't believe my eyes! Don't offer open beer classes if you refuse to take the time to teach the little ones. The way he handled the situation was beyond anything I have ever seen or dealt with. Today was the last straw. You should be ashamed of yourselves! Practice what you preach or close down.
